Extensions in safari not loading. They've disappeared.

When I open the Preferences and under Extensions its blank. However, they're still in the Safari's library folder. I can still manually add them again but this is the second time I've had this happen. Anyone getting similiar problems? I'd like to know what might be conflicying with Safari so I can fix it.
Using Safari (5.0.6) on an iMac (G5 running 10.5.8)

So...I got it to work.  I was logged out of my iGoogle page ( I also have a google account).  When I went and logged myself into google, then went back to school's website, the google doc appeared in the blank white space. I find this interesting and told the school's tech support, because if a student / family doesn't have a google account, does that mean safari won't load up a google doc that it is trying to import?  If so, they will have to tell families who want to use all the features to sign up with google?  I'm just not sure if I am right here, so some confirmation would be great.

Starting your Mac in "Safe Mode" (see below) will load only Apple-provided kernel extensions. Observing its perfomance in that mode will be instructive.
The problems you describe are likely to have been caused by garbage software of which "TechTool Pro" is only one example. That system has been altered from its factory configuration through the installation of several third party system modifications, any one of which can cause poor performance. Interaction between two or more is another possibility. Running a torrent client is another way of inviting malware intrusion.
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.

  • Safari not loading images

I'm having an issue with Safari not loading websites correctly. It happens on BBC and Apple website. All I get is the text, no banners, images, thumbnails, nothing. Can anyone shed light as to why this is happening. My internet is connection is fibreoptic and is 55mb/second

    Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
"Develop" menu will appear in the Safari menu bar
    Enable Images.
Make sure that"Disable Images" is not enabled.

  • Why will safari not load web pages with the prefix "fhp"?

Why will safari not load web pages with the prefix "fhp"?

Because it doesn't recognise them as valid addresses - just as the error message  says.
Firefox is similar : Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (fhp) isn't associated with any program.
Where are you seeing this problem ?.

  • Safari not loading and Itunes not playing

safari not loading and "itunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration audio video may not operate properly".
Both were working normally before the used "Apple Software Update" to update all my apple software on 15Apr2012
I wish I didn't disable my system restore, but is there a way I can downgrade Safari and iTunes if this problem can't be a fixed
Must be a problem with just apple software since no other audio application have problems.
    Quicktime works properly.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Safari not loading page properly

    Hi all,
I have a fairly specific problem with Safari (8.0.3 on OS X 10.10.2) in that the Stripe login page does not load properly for me. All I see when I go here is basic HTML: http://dashboard.stripe.com/login
In terms of troubleshooting, I have tried the following
    Disabled Extensions
    Disabled plugins
    Emptied Caches
Cleared cookies and other website data
I then decided to create a new user on my Mac to see what would happen. In the new user's Safari, the page loads exactly as it should.
So, my question is, what else can I do to troubleshoot this? Have I missed something?
    Cheers,
    Pete

Back up all data before proceeding.
Quit Safari if it’s running. Then select
               ▹ Force Quit…
from the menu bar. A small window will open with a list of running applications. Safari may appear in that list, even though you quit it. If so, select it and press return. Close the window.
    Step 1
Hold down the option key and select
              Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Delete the following items from the Library folder (some may not exist):
              Caches/com.apple.Safari
              Caches/com.apple.Safari.SearchHelper
              Caches/com.apple.SafariServices
              Caches/com.apple.WebKit.PluginProcess
              Caches/com.apple.WebProcess
              Caches/Metadata/Safari
              Preferences/com.apple.WebKit.PluginHost.plist
              Preferences/com.apple.WebKit.PluginProcess.plist
              Saved Application State/com.apple.Safari.savedState
Leave the Library folder open. Try Safari again. If the problem is solved, stop here. Close the Library folder. If you still have a problem, continue.
    Step 2
Restart the computer in safe mode. Certain caches maintained by the system will be rebuilt.
Safe mode is much slower to start up than normal.
When the login screen appears, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.
    Step 3
If Safari still doesn’t work, quit, go back to the Finder, and move the following items from the open Library folder to the Desktop (again, some may not exist):
              Cookies/Cookies.binarycookies
              Internet Plug-Ins
              Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.Safari.*.plist
              Preferences/com.apple.Safari.Extensions.plist
              Preferences/com.apple.Safari.LSSharedFileList.plist
              Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
              Preferences/com.apple.WebFoundation.plist
              PubSub/Database
              Safari
              SyncedPreferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Here, "*" stands for a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes.
Note 1: You are not moving the Safari application. You’re moving a folder named “Safari.”
Note 2: This step will remove your Safari extensions, if any, and their settings. If you choose to reinstall them, do so one at a time, testing each time to make sure you haven’t restored the problem.
Try again. Your settings and bookmarks will be lost. The default set of bookmarks will be restored. Delete them all.
If Safari is now working normally (apart from the lost settings), look inside the “Safari” folder on the Desktop for a file named “Bookmarks.plist”. Select
              File ▹ Import Bookmarks...
from the Safari menu bar. Import from that file. Recreate the rest of your Safari settings. You can then delete the items you moved to the Desktop.
If the issue is still not resolved, quit Safari again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were, overwriting the newer ones that may have been created in their place. You don’t need to replace the files you deleted in Step 1. Stop here and post again.
If you don’t like the results of the last step, you can undo it completely by quitting Safari and restoring the items you moved or deleted in that step from your backup, overwriting any that were created in their place.

  • Safari not loading images but other browsers are.

As the title denotes, I'm having this issue with safari that some images are not loading and I only get a blue question mark square. I have seen other forums with this question but it seems that my scenario is a little different, because other browsers like firefox can display images with no problem. Also for example, when I do a google image search only several images get to load while others don't. If I click refresh they finally get loaded but sincerely they take a lot more time to load than on firefox (sometimes refreshing doesn't work either) It might not be such a problem in an image search but on pages like facebook it is quite a hassle.
I don't know what might be causing it, (I don't believe its got to do with my internet connection since firefox has no problems whatsoever.) At first I thought that maybe an update might do the trick so I installed Safari 4 Beta which gave me only a slight better loading of the images.
Now to help see my case I've got some points to say in advance:
    1) I don't think it is webpage specific but I frequently see it in google image search and facebook
    2) I am using mac OS X 10.5.6
    3) Every time an image doesn't load, the activity window says "can't find host"
    4) As said above, I'm using Safari 4 Beta. But still I had this problem with the previous Safari

    Hello,
We also have a problem with Safari only partially loading pages, or not loading them at all (a blank page is displayed). It happens intermittently, and affects some websites more than others.
It's definitely not an Internet issue as all other browsers (FF 3.5.1, latest Opera, Navigator, IE 6, 7 and 8 via Parallels Desktop) can display the pages normally.
I don't think it is related, but most of the websites that are affected are hosted at MediaTemple:
    http://www.bedsupperclub.com
    http://www.soundphuket.com
    http://www.silqbkk.com
    http://www.bedmgmt.com/
Reloading the page doesn't help (we tried reloading a gazillion times).
The issue affects all computers in our office (iMacs, MBP, MB).
We are using the latest version of Safari (4.0.2), it's an issue that we also experienced with 4.0 and the Beta.
We are gradually shifting to Firefox as this issue is really frustrating.

  • Safari not loading .css files / hanging page load

A bit of an odd one this...
I'm having a few issues a couple of websites in that the page takes an age to load - and when (if) it does, the CSS file hasn't loaded, so the page is unstyled.
One page is http://www.liverpoolfc.tv - the main page and the advert page before it both have the same issue.
From the activity report, this is because the browser is not completing the download of the file http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/lfc.css - although this will download fine if I download the file not as a part of the site.
The (Safari) activity report shows that the page's .css file is stalling, in this case at 8.0KB out of 8.6KB - this is consistent each time I try to load the page.
The problem occurrs in both Safari (3.2.1) and Firefox (3.0.6) on Mac OS X 10.5.6. It also happens with the current version of WebKit and Camino. The computer is up to date on all other relevant patches, including the recent Security Update, Java Update 3 and Flash.
I'm experiencing this problem with another website, again with the .css file not loading.
Similarly, I have two computers (both the same versions of software) and the problem is consistent between them.
    What I've tried so far...
    - resetting Safari
    - deleting the cookies manually
    - using a proxy server
    - starting Safari in Rosetta
    - using a copy of Safari without any user preferences (via the System Admin login)
None of these have made a difference. However, given that this is a problem across Safari, Firefox etc., I suspect this must be an issue in a shared component.
    Any thoughts?

    1. From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
    2. From the menu bar, select
               ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane. Test.
    3. From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    and confirm. Test.

  • Safari not loading any webpages after 10.7.3 update.

I did the update through software update, and I saw a lot of people having errors with that, but i did not get the cui error, my only issue is safari stopped loading any webpages.
If I try to enter an address in the bar and hit enter, it just beachballs, and than nothing happens, before it used to just keep trying to load it.
I than downloaded the combo updater, opened the dmg, and installed over it, restarted and same issue
Prior to the combo update I repaired any file permissions as well.
How do I get safari to work properly again?
I even uninstalled the clicktoflash extension.
    TIA.

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
If that doesn't help, back to the menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari. Select the top 5 boxes click Reset.
If that didn't help, go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file form the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Quit then relaunch Safari to test. If pages load, move that .plist file to the Trash. Otherwise, just move it back to the Preferences folder.
See if that helps. If not, go to Safari > Preferences then select the Security tab. Deslect:  Enable plug ins
Quit then relaunch Safari to test. If Safari loads pages, then you need to troublleshoot Safari add ons >  Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues'
If you have anti virus software installed, disable that. And turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security & Privacy. See if that helps.

  • Safari not loading some sites.

I don't believe I have changed anything in Safari, but this problem has recently started occuring.
Half the sites I go to won't load properly. It seems to try, as the progress bar begins to fill, but after a couple of seconds it gives up and leaves me with a white page. The activity window shows the page as being 1 byte in size.
This seems to happen more often on some sites than others, whereas some will not be affected at all and will work fine. Some of the offending sites will also load if I copy/paste the link into a new tab, but not if I reload.
It also occurs in the latest Webkit build (34130) but not in Firefox (3.0RC1) or Camino (1.6.1).
I've tried resetting Safari, but to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem, and often end up going back to Firefox as a result.
Also, Safari will very often not load www.hotmail.com. I get the following message -
"Windows Live ID is unavailable from this site for one of the following reasons:
This site may be experiencing a problem.
The site may not be a member of Windows Live ID.
If I clean out all the hotmail related cookies, it then does usually load, but what a pain. I recently made Safari my preferred browser, but now regret having done so. Since this seems to be an Apple problem, hope they resolve it soon.

  • Safari not loading particular web sites

    Safari 5.1.7: Snow Leopard 10.6.8: MBP 2.53 Mid 2009: 8/500
For some reason, Safari does not load drudgereport.com or rushlimbaugh.com.  This just started today.
Firefox has some problems too. Chrome loads both sites just fine.
Here is what I've done to try and remedy this in Safari - my browser of choice:
    Re-Installed Safari
    Deleted Drudge and Rush cookies
    Reset Safari
Checked my fonts for duplicates (none found)
Restarted modem & Apple router (shut down for 1 minute +)
    Ran applejack
    Ran Coctail
    De fragged hard drive
Shut down and restarted after a minute or two
Used terminal to find and enter the IP address. (host drudgerepord.com  and host rushlimbaugh.com)
Limbaugh took me to Premier Radio Network and Drudge took me nowhere.
All the other sites I visit regularly load just fine.
    Can't think of anything else.
UPDATE: I just spent 20 minutes trying to post my problem in an intelligent and comprehensive manner. But... just now I tried both sites again and they loaded fine. So, if you've read this far, I won't be wasting anyone's time. But I'm just going to leave this here anyway.

If you are using an Intel Machine, the 3.0 codec is not available - only for the older iMac machines. Have a look at this thread from the Real Player Forum.
Assuming you are using an Intel machine - To use the 3.0 codec, which is necessary to play the sound files you referenced, you would need to start Safari in Rosetta mode first.
Back to Real Player and your original question:
This is from Real Players on-line help data base:
When you install RealPlayer for Mac OS X, you are prompted to decide which types of files you want to open with it. RealPlayer becomes the default media player for the file types you choose to associate with it.
If you install another media program after installing RealPlayer, some of these file types may be associated with the new program.
To reassign these file types to RealPlayer:
Open RealPlayer for Mac OS X, click the RealPlayer menu, and choose Preferences. The Preferences box opens.
    Select the Media Types category.
Select the file types you want RealPlayer to play by default, and then click Save Media Types. The changes will take affect after you restart RealPlayer.
If you are still experiencing problems, Safari may be overriding your choices. To reassign file-types for Safari:
Find one of the downloaded files in the Finder.
Hold the control key down and click on the file.
Select Get Info from the file's menu.
In the Open With area of the file's Info window, choose RealPlayer as the application.
    Click Change All.
Follow the above instructions and post back.

  • Safari not loading pages fully

safari is not loading web pages fully for some reason. why is this?

    Enable cache from Develop menu:
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Select:  Show Develop menu in menu bar
Now click Develop from the menu bar. From the drop down menu click Empty Caches.
Quit and relaunch Safari. If you still have problems, try troubleshooting Safari extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.

  • Safari not loading web pages

My mom's Powerbook is no longer able to load web pages through Safari. Her email works, as does iChat, so it isn't her internet connection. Other users on the same network can load web pages, so it isn't the service provider. I have had her reset safari, as well as remove the preferences file, and the same thing happens (the 'loading' message appears but nothing ever loads).
Any suggestions what to try next?
    Thanks!
    Brian

    HI Brian,
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache.
If that doesn't help, go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/ Move the Cache.db file to the Trash
    If that didn't help...
Go to ~/Library/Internet Plugins and /Library/Internet Plugins. If there are plugins in either of those folders, move them to a temporary location on the Desktop. With Safari open, from the Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences and click the Security tab. Make sure Enable Plugins is selected. See if Safari can load web pages. If not, move those files back to the appropriate folder.
Go to /Library/Input Managers. Move any input managers from that folder to the Desktop and relaunch Safari.
Might be a web clip causing the problem. Open Dashboard and remove any web clips.
If she is running Tiger 10.4.11, open System Preferences/Software Updates - Installed Updat4es and make sure she has the 2009-002 Security update installed. If not, download and install it here.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/SecurityUpdate_2009_002__Tiger_PPC
If her PowerBookG4 has the original hard drive, 40 or 60GB?, it might be a lack of free disk space.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.*

  • Safari Not Loading

    Hello!
I am a first time poster to these boards. I am seeking help with Safari 4.0.5, which I updated and installed to my iMac on 3/17/10 (using Safe Mode.)
My iMac is a 2006, Early Version, Intel Core Duo, using OS Tiger, 10.4.11.
The problem is Safari is not loading (versus crashing or unexpectedly quitting.) The problem appears to have started only in the last couple of weeks, and not immediately after the update installation. The loading process times out (3 minutes) and returns the following:
You are not connected to the Internet.
Safari can’t open the page “http://ww2.cox.com/myconnection/arkansas/home.cox” because your computer isn’t connected to the Internet.
Using Network Diagnostics the results window shows the following ( although the address is the home page address and is correct):
    Cannot find server
This computer appears to have a working Internet connection, but cannot find "ww2.cox.com".
You may have typed the address incorrectly.
The Network Diagnostics/ Network Status shows
    Green Button - Built-In Ethernet
    Green Button - Network Settings
    Green Button - ISP
    Red Button - Internet (failed)
    Red Button - Server (failed)
(Sorry - I could not get a picture ofit to paste in this message.)
After reading information on some of the other posted Safari questions I have tried the suggestions that I thought may apply to my Safari problem. So far, here is what I have tried:
    – Permissions: I am someone who routinely verifies and repairs permissions, and have done so in this situation.
    – Reset Safari: I reset Safari at a minimum daily when I shutdown the computer. Typically, if I am doing many web searches, I will reset Safari 7 to 10 times a day. All the reset options are selected so I hope the caches and cookies are being cleaned out.
    – Input Managers/Input Methods: I cannot locate any files or folders labeled as such to remove.
    – .plists: From my user library I have removed and replaced the safari.plist, the lastsession.plist, and the history.plist, one at time and tried to restart Safari to no avail.
    – Home page address: changed to the Apple site, problem still happens.
    – Safe Mode: I have restarted the iMac in safe mode and done all of the above.
    – Flash Player: On 3/29/10 I downloaded and installed Flash Player version 10.0.45.2.
    – Hardware: I checked all the physical connections and everything seems to be in working order.
By accident, I found a work-around, hopefully temporary, solution. I use the Terminal utility to run the sudo periodic maintenance scripts because the iMac is turned off at night. I also run these scripts when any system problems appear. I find if the sudo periodic daily command is run Safari will then load. Safari may then load just fine for the next few days, or just for one day. Once Safari is loaded there does not seem to be any problems with its performance.
The periodic maintenance scripts are the only UNIX commands I know, and I don’t understand what files are being affected. I cannot discern a particular website visit or function that will cause the next failure to load.
Does anyone have suggestions to resolve this problem (besides never shutting the iMac or Safari off..LOL)?
    Thank you,
    Cym

    Dear Carolyn:
Thank you for your Welcome and quick response. Please do not forsake me now.
The ISP is "seeing" what the iMac Network Diagnosis is reporting, that the built-in ethernet and modem are working, the network settings are fine, and that the ISP "signal" is reaching my computer. The url "ww2.cox.com" is a correct address and the site is functioning. Also checking the hardware connections found nothing loose. So...the problem is my h/w or s/w (or maybe I did not ask the right questions.)
(I have tried to paste a copy of the Network Diagnosis window here but cannot figure out how to do that. I did make a file of it using Preview's Grab function, and can copy it but cannot get it pasted from the clipboard into this post.)
My Safari's home page is set at the "ww2.cox.com" and has been for the last few years, so no new element there. The address is correct. In trying to resolve this 'loading problem' I have experimented and changed the home page to www.apple.com, and www.google.com. The loading still times out and Network Diagnostics still reports, "This computer appears to have a working Internet connection, but cannot find "www.apple.com" (or "www.google.com"). You may have typed the address incorrectly."
As stated in my original post, once the sudo periodic daily script is run, Safari will load with no problem. Safari can find the ww2.cox.com page, or whatever home page I have set. There are no performance problems until the next time Safari will not load.
What is really frustrating is the problem occurrence is not consistent. It may happen the first time Safari is being accessed. It sometimes happens after I used Safari for a couple hours, then Quit, and then try to reopen Safari later. It can happen after a Safari reset only. It does not happen everyday. Safari will open and load fine for a few days, then it won't. And this whole situation only started about March 25th.
It seems like there is some little piece of ??? being corrupted during Safari use, that does not get corrected with permissions repair, or removing the various plists, but gets resolved (albeit temporarily) with the daily maintenance script. I cannot narrow it down.
So, Carolyn, do you have other advice on this subject?
Thank you for your time and consideration,
    Cym
