  • Can I use external APIs to authenticate users?

I have been asked to develop a lightswitch application either as desktop client or HTML client. Now I am confused about the authentication
mechanism in LightSwitch, and it leads a question: Can I authenticate my users from an external website or application?
For the HTML client, I have been thinking that whether I could use external APIs like Facebook Login API to authenticate my users? If I could, the code should be JavaScript, then where should I put it, and how can I configure my LS application?
For the desktop client, same question, if I could identify my users by pulling some user information from an external website, what kind of code/Programming Language shall I use?

    Hey ConnorTx!
This is not supported out of the box.
For in-browser desktop applications, you can hack around this by setting up the social media credentials, then redirecting to your desktop application while passing the self-encrypted credentials.  I explained this workaround in
    this article.
I don't have enough production experience with HTML apps yet.  However when you use Forms authentication, I suspect you can simply fill in the IPrincipal on the HttpContext.Current, then redirect to your HTML app, and the LightSwitch Forms Auth mechanism
would pick up your principal as valid credentials.  I wish I had time to show you some code for this, would make a great blog post :/
    Keep rocking LS!

  • Flash Ad External API  not working in IE7

I'm using the Flash AS 2.0 External API to call a Javascript
function in a page that adds an item to a shopping list when a
Flash Ad is clicked. This is working in FireFox 2 , Safari, and
IE6, but does not work in IE7. I tested the Flash Ad locally in
it's own html page and it calls the function in IE7. An example of
the ad can be viewed here:
    http://ads.beta.groceryshopping.net/Shop/WeeklyAd.aspx
The issue may be tied to Ajax.

the solution can be found here:

  • Not able to connect to an external API URL from Siebel Server

    Hi All,
We are facing a very basic problem of failing in connecting to an external API URL call from siebel server.
We are able to access the same URL from Internet explorer on the server.
what can be the issue. kindly help?
    Regards,
    Nishith

what siebel component is trying to make the call to the external server?
nature of the call? SOAP, HTTP GET, POST?
What if any error does Siebel return?
I assume the server in windows since you mention connecting from IE on server works.

  • Flex Component Kit : control import with external API?

    Hello,
I want to import a swf/swc which plays flv movies controlled
by an external API. When I compile the mxml file which contains my
application will I still be able to control it with the external
    API?
I hope someone can help me.
    cheers, Flo

    That's really weird!
After digging around, reinstalling Flash CS3 again and doing
multiple tests, I finally found the source of the problem:
Two .swc files residing in the same folder where I was saving
my tests files were avoiding the Flash compiler to successfully
create new .swc files!? I cannot understand how this can be
possible. As soon as I choosed a new folder for saving the test
files, I could link to the .swc and access the component from Flex.
Also as soon as I moved out the two culprid files I could again
    save in the previous folder...
Does anyone has an idea how this can happen?
For those interested in the case, you can download the 2
    culprid files

  • Can I run the emulator in -Xautotest mode with an external API?

    Hello,
I am currently creating an implementation to a JSR and I want to test the implementation with the test harness.
I start the harness and then the test agent. I want to start the agent in autotest mode, using the -Xautotest switch, like this:
    emulator.exe -Xautotest:http://localhost:8080/test/getNextApp.jad
This will download the test JAD and JAR and run them.
The problem is this: When running, my class path must also contain my JSR implementation (the implementation I am testing). But the JSR implementation is not part of the downloaded JAR.
Is there any way I can run the emulator in autotest mode, and have an external API in the classpath? The classpath should contain both the downloaded JAR and my JSR implementation JAR.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi,
    Please go through the thread
Re: Guided procedures & WebDynpro (SAP-EU software component)
    it will definately help you.
if you are using NW04s SP7 you can get the API's from the blog

  • Web service using an external api (WSDL)

    Hi,
Need to use a web service from google. I have the wsdl file with me.

In Web Dynpro ABAP there is nothing special about calling a web service. Unlike WD Java, there are not dedicated model object types in WD ABAP. WD ABAP simply has the ability to interact with other ABAP development object types. You can call function modules, ABAP classes, even modules in old dynpro apps.
So calling the webservice from ABAP therefore is just the process of generating the ABAP Proxy Class. This is the same process regardless of if you want to use this proxy class from WDA or any other type of ABAP development object. You can then call the proxy class from WDA just like any other type of ABAP class. There is a service wizard option in later support package levels that includes an option for ABAP Proxy classes - although it doesn't generate the proxy class it just generates the code and context for the call to an already existing proxy class. The service wizards in WD ABAP are not required however. They are just shortcut code generators and often can't even generate a complete context for a complex web service proxy - so expect to do some manual adjustment after running the wizard.

  • External APIs in eInsight

I wanetd to know if we could import external jars into eInsight Buniess Process. if anyone has worked on this can u please share the informaiton

I am not sure what you mean by importing jars into a Business Process, which is not a Java program after all. Do you mean you have JCDs called in a BP? In this case, the jars should be imported into JCDs that use them.

  • Can't get External API to work in IE7

I'm trying to get a Flash Ad to call a Javascript function in
an Ajax page. I'm using ActionScript 2.0 ExternalAPI to call a
function in the page that adds an item to a shopping list. I can
get this to work in all browsers except IE7. It even works in IE7
when I put this Ad alone in a basic html page, but as soon as I put
it in an Ajax page it does not call the function in IE7.
I appreciate any help or suggestions

Thanks for the input. I'm not familiar with Ajax so it helps
to know if there are any known issues. I assumed it was an Ajax
issue because the same ad works in a non-ajax web page that uses

  • External API and VB

We have a VB application that has an embedded swf file in it.
We’re trying to control aspects of the animation (i.e. color,
frame rate) via input from VB, but we’re having a heck of a
time making Flash and VB talk to each other.
I’ve tried 15+ different ways to get communication
occurring from within the FLASH SWF to ExternalInterface from ANY
    application and have been unsuccessful.
    I’ve tried:
    1) swf (ActionScript 3.0) → DeltaV VBA
    2) swf (ActionScript 3.0) → VB6
    3) swf (ActionScript 3.0) → JavaScript (IE6+)
Has anyone had experience with this? Please help!

lets see how you are using the ExternalInterface.

  • Does PSE10 have an external API so that I can make my own addins to the organizer?

I need to extend the functionality of PSE10.
My most immediate need is to "merge" .NEF images and .JPG mages into a version set. This is a very tedious manual process in the current version.

Wouldn't stacks work just as well? Stacks are a lot easier to create than version sets, and I'm told (haven't tried it myself) that you can autostack .NEF and JPG with reasonable success.

  • Multiple Data Sources and Accessing External Java APIs

    Hi Everyone,
I have a couple of questions for which I was not able to find satisfactory answers in the forum search, so here they are. I would be really grateful if you can help us out with this.
    1. Accessing two Data Sources in the same report: We have a requirement to access two data sources in the same report, and use the data from one source to run a query on the other source. Our product (OIM) has its own DB. And it integrates with BPEL (another Oracle application) for some functionality. BPEL has its own DB. A few reports need data from both these repositories. For simplicity, consider that we need to join two tables, but one table is in OIM DB and the other is in BPEL DB. I guess such a join is not possible. So to work around it, we would like to run a query against one DB and then use the results to run a query on the other DB, which will basically simulate the join by running two queries.
Is something like this possible in BIP? If not directly available, can you suggest something which can act as a work around to achieve this?
    2. Calling External Java APIs from BIP: We need to call some external APIs (for achieving Data Security) 'before' we run the queries in BIP. Basically the Java API will specifya set of keys which will have to be used in an 'in' clause. I looked at the section "Building a Data Template" in the BIP User's Guide (http://bipublisher.us.oracle.com/doc/prod_docs/BI_Publisher_10_1_3_3_3/bip.1013/b40017/T421739T434255.htm). As far as I can see, it discusses how to invoke a PL/SQL procedure using <datatrigger> but the usage is not clear to me. Is there any other document that discusses this in detail? Also, I am not sure if it is possible to access Java APIs. Has it been done before? If yes, then can anyone provide some sample code (sample report bits) which I can refer to to get this thing working?
Also, the data coming from the Java API may not be in the correct format. We may have to do some additional processing (like converting data in a Java Object to something like comma separated list to be plugged into a query). Is that possible? What will be the best approach here?
    Sorry for the detailed post!
    Thanks,
    Jatan

Yes you should be able to use both - for example using a Flash Variable to pass in the URL of the XML that you want to load.
FlashVars are only supposed to be passed in on startup and they are defined as part of the OBJECT/EMBED tag for the HTML.
Actually it was possible to update FlashVars at runtime in Xcelsius 4.5 with certain JavaScript calls but not in Xcelsius 2008 (because Adobe Flex which Xcelsius 2008 is based on does not allow the same mechanism).
FYI, for those that are interested in Xcelsius 2008 you pass values into/out of Xcelsius at runtime using External Interface and JavaScript instead.

    Matt
