External Class/Objectdefinitions and the Displaylist

Hello, I have several Objects that control an Array of several Movieclips. Is this Object also a DisplayObjectContainer that is part of the Hierarchy of Display Objects? The problem with this would be, that if I would add another type of objects to control the same Movieclips, there would be some struggle with the strict tree structure off the Displaylist....

I want to define an object that controls the behaviour of DisplayObjects but is not part of the DisplayList. This Control-Object has no visible content. So you said that only members of the DisplayList can call the root-level. But why can´t I just import the "Document-Class", or the class, where the root-Object of my movie is defined? Is the root-Object private, so that only Objects who extend the root-Object can acces it?

First of all make sure that you've definitely backed up the movies to your external hard disc.
In iMovie click on any event you don't want, go to the file menu and select 'move event to trash'. Then do the same for any unwanted projects - 'move project to trash'. Quit out of iMovie and empty the trash.

Here is the information I have. The external hard drive is a 120GB Acomdata. It has both USB and Firewire. When I go to plug in to the mac mini through USB, it is not being recognized. When I switch to Firewire on the old computer I can see it, however when I go to USB it is not being recognized (even on the old computer).
I'm at a loss as to what to do. Any advice would be helpful.

Time Machine, External Hard drive, and the Windows Partition

Is it possible for me to back up my mac with Time machine, and also back up my windows partition on the same HD? I just got the External HD today, so I'm very new at this. Thanks for your help.

Time machine does not work with windows drives.
however the way I have backed up my bootcamp partition is to use diskutility to make a dmg of the windows partition. I then only make regular backups of my user account on the windows partition.
You could partition the new external drive and make 1 partition hfs+ and the other fat32. Then when booted into windows it will see the fat32 partition on the external drive. Then you can carry out backups from within windows to that partition.
Timemachine will backup your mac partition with no problems.

If you moved the iTunes folder to your external drive, you moved the iTunes library file - iTunes Library.itl, which is in that folder.
You need to tell iTunes where it is, start iTunes with the shift key held down and iTunes should ask you to choose a library.

Asset class Reports and the G/L accounts balances are not tallying

As per the G/L account (Recon) Furniture is showing 952428.18 and the furniture asset class report is showing 916186.25.
Kindly tell me how to reconcile, the way to find out the differences.

As per the suggestions given i verified
1. Asset transactions might have posted after posting depreciation for the period
I verified this. there are no postings
2. Depreciation terms (depreciation key, useful life ) might have changed.
The depreciation terms are not changed
3, Manual transactions might have posted directly to GL Accounts.
No manual transactions are there.
Correct the differences by
1. Repeat the depreciation posting program (AFAB)
2. Execute Recalculate (AFAR) and Repeat the depreciation posting program.
I executed AFAR it is updating the G/L accounts only not the FI-AA
3. Check the Manual entries posted in GL Account of Furniture asset class and reverse
manual entries are not posted.
I executed ABST. There are no errors.
i verified the SAP Note. it is basically explaining about AUC(We don't have) reconciliation and this is the first year (3months completed after go-live)
any other possible reconciliation is appreciable

Attempting to understand object/class data and the actor framework...

I'm currently trying to understand why changing a typedef within class data of a class (named measurement.lvclass) causes all of the "launch nested actor" vi's to break. I feel like I'm trying to use a ratchet with a phillips screw or something, is there something I'm fundamentally missing here?
I was under the impression that you can populate class data clusters with information that might require read/write in different methods (the vis in the measurement class called by the do.vi of that particular msg class... we still call them methods right?).

I think I can chalk this one up to a lack of communication with another developer on the project... We actually found a realy interesting issue involving a type def input on a subvi where any updating of it causes labview to crash when you attempt to save that subvi. if I get time I want to try to isolate it and maybe post it up here for a closer look under more experienced eyes... due to being under pressure, we had to disconnect form the type def and basically update it manually which is a PITA but got the system running...

How much external memory is necessary for a IMac desktop that has 4GB? I have a 500gb external hard drive and the computer is saying it is full.

My Imac has been recalled by Apple to replace the Seagte 1TB hard drive. I was told to back up my computer and I have a 500gb external hard drive. The computers memory is 4gb. why is my 500 gb external hard drive not enough space?

Your backup drive has half the capacity of the internal drive. Depending on how much of the iMac's drive is full, the external drive may or may not be sufficient.
It is like trying to pour the contents of a gallon milk carton into a half gallon pitcher. You may be able to pour the entire contents into the pitcher - but not if the milk carton is more than half full.

Bus powered external hard drives and the Powerbook G4 17 inch

Does anyone have a suggestion for a bus powered external hard drive that will work with the Powerbook 17 inch? I had purchased a Simpletech Simpledrive portable USB 100GB bus powered drive and it will not work with my 17 inch. It works with my 15 inch titanium and a G5 but not the 17 inch. Simpletech told me that it isn't getting enough power from the USB ports (I even tried using the adapter to plug it into both ports at the same time).
I am going to return the drive and probably buy a Firewire one instead since you can boot from Firewire but I am wondering if I will have the same problem with Firewire on the 17 inch and HAVE to use an AC adapter.

This also happens on the PB 15". It is perceived as a problem. If you check via the System Profiler you will likely see that the USB port output is 500mA. Most drives - in a USB or FW case - need 1A to boot. There are some drives that will boot with 500mA. If a 500mA drive is installed in the USB case it should boot off the bus power. If using a ext HD you can only boot the computer from the FW port and not the USB or PCMCIA slot.
The FW port will power the ext HD. I do not recommend daisy chaining unless you use a powered FW hub. I blew 4 FW ports and had to replace the logic board 4 times but Apple Care paid for all the work. The newer FW ports are more robust but it is still a chance if you try to draw too much power.

I've got 2 components: A, B where A consumes the data provided by B.
I'm calling the component B which includes a view provided by A. This view (provided by A) needs data inputted by the user in a view in B.
The context of B contains a node called MULTIVALUES flagged as Interface + Input Element Ext.
The component A uses the component B, in the component usage interface controller of the component A I've referenced the component controller of A. I have then created a node in A's component controller and done the mapping from the component usage interface controller of A to A's component controller.
The manually created component controller node in A is NOT an interface.
Now when I invoke B I'm getting an error:
The Mapping to Node COMPONENTCONTROLLER.1.MULTIVALUES Has Not Been Completed.
What's still missing?

it is indeed much more complex and you need lot of understanding about the component instances and their life time.
What i do normally for such complex cyclic dependency , i try to split the common part which is needed in bot component_a and component_b and create a new super component_s.
Component_s is used in both components. You can even go further that you create view component which has nothing but the viewContainer UI elements to embed the views from component_a and Component_b.
The view component has to create all the used components (comp_s,comp_a,comp_b) and after creating call the interface method in comp_a and comp_b to set the component usage of comp_s (use the if_wd_comp_usage=>entering-referencemode).
In this way the comp_a,comp_b share the same instance of comp_s.
What i am saying is to look for a solution in application architecture and not with in the exiting components coding.

I copied my iPhoto library to an external hard drive and all the event windows are black. Once you click on a square the photos are still there. How do I fix that?

So is your media folder called iTunes Music or iTunes Media? And does it have a folder called Music inside it?
Before going any further you should first attempt to use File > Library > Organize Library > Rearrange files in the folder "<Media Folder>" (ignore if grayed out). This will make sure that any iPod Games or Mobile Applications get placed inside the iTunes Media folder which is needed for portability.
If your iTunes Media folder is called iTunes Music, close iTunes, rename the folder as iTunes Media and start iTunes again. iTunes will automatically adjust. Close iTunes again.
On your external drive rearrange the folders that you have already copied there so that they match the layout in your active library. You should end up with a folder called X:\iTunes where X: is the external drive letter, and the media folder is X:\iTunes\iTunes Media. If the library layout was upgraded then you will need to create a Music folder inside this and move all the artist folders and Compilations into Music. You will also need to copy iPod Games and Mobile Applications from your internal drive into the new media folder. Next copy the files iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, sentinel and the folder Album Artwork from the internal drive into X:\iTunes. The preceding manipulations should make the internal and external copies of your library match without you having to copy all of the media over again.
Now hold shift as you start iTunes. Click choose, browse to and open X:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl.
Finally use File > Library > Organize Library > Consolidate files. This will ensure that any stray files that might have been added from outside your original media folder will be copied into the new one.
You can now reclaim the space used by your library on the internal drive, however before you do so I would advise you to obtain another external drive and make use of this backup tip.

External HD and the iBook G4

Ok, I realize there have already been discussions about the external HD's and the iBook G4 but I do not understand the computer language that was spoken there. So, in basic terms can someone help me with this problem. I have a USB 40 GB IBM External HD that has always worked on my computer that runs windows, but now that I have a new iBook I want to connect it to this computer now. Everytime I connect the HD though, Finder freezes and I can never access the files on my external HD. I have tons of music and what not on the HD and I want to add it to my iTunes Library but I can never access them as a) finder freezes or b) I can access some of the files but not all. Are the iBook and this HD compatible???? cause they really suck together. The HD is always making funny noises that had never happened before.....any help????

Can you do use any applaction or is it only finder that freezes? I don't knpw why it frezees but in order to use it with your mac you will need to format it for mac. This will erase all ofthe data on the external hard drive. My best soulation would be to dump all the data on the external hard drive to your windows computer then format the external hard drive and then transphere the data from your pc to your mac. The big thing to know is if all the data from the external hard drive would fit on your pc. There might be other possibilities too.
