External Database Updates Automatically Updating Entity Beans

Hi,
I have a Java GUI which displays the contents of a table. One row is displayed on the GUI for each row in the table.
The data is accessed by the Java GUI from the table using a container Managed Entity Bean.
If I insert a row in the table from Oracle's SQL command prompt, can the GUI be automatically refreshed to display the new row that was inserted in the table i.e. does weblogic container receive any message which can be trapped by the entity bean to automatically reload the content of the table.
Regards,
Dinesh

Hi Dinesh,
I think there is a requirements/design problem here.
First, it's hardly possible to implement a callbacks
from the DB layer to a container layer.
Second, what would happend to the GUI if many
changes to the database ocure simultaneously?
I thinks this is a GUI user who has to request
a refresh when it's necessary.

  • Can't Update with CMP entity bean (psi-ri)

    Hello!
    Has anybody got entitybeans to work thorougly with psi-ri -persistence provider?
    Our entities Insert and Delete as they should be, but we haven't got them to Update anything.
    I have a feeling that this has something to do with transactions, but I haven't found any answers yet.
    All help is more than appreciated

    yes, Entity beans with psi-ri works fine. In fact I have written a couple of them which is fine.

  • Help! My database connection from BMP Entity bean dies after a while!!!

    Hi all!
    I posted a related post about this lately How do I use connection pooling from BMP Entity Beans in OC4J 10.1.2? but it didn't solve my problems.
    I have some entity beans coded with BMP, so I handle all database stuff myself. I have set up datasources.xml like this:
        <data-source
            class="com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource"
            name="OracleDS"
            location="jdbc/OracleCoreDS"
            xa-location="jdbc/xa/OracleXADS"
            ejb-location="jdbc/OracleDS"
            connection-driver="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"
            username="scott"
            password="tiger"
            url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@//URL TO DB:SID"
            inactivity-timeout="30"
            min-connections="10"
            max-connections="50"
        />All JNDI connection lookup is done through the ejb-location as I should. I have been through all my try {} catch {} finally {} blocks, so ensure that I close all objects after use.
    After a few hours of inactivity, my program dies. I have inserted a lot of debug statements (System.out.println()), and it seems like the program hangs when it's trying to execute a PreparedStatement.
    I.e. it dies when I do ps.ExecuteQuery in the code below (NOTE: to make things easier to read, I have stripped out all error handling here):
        Context ic = new InitialContext();
        DataSource ds = (DataSource)ic.lookup("jdbc/OracleDS");
        c = ds.getConnection();
        System.out.println("DEBUG: Got database connection.");
        PreparedStatement ps = c.prepareStatement("SELECT foobar FROM footable WHERE foo=?");
        System.out.println("DEBUG: Prepared SQL statement.");
        ps.setString(1,"foo");
        ResultSet rs = ps.executeQuery();
        // Close all objects (rs, ps, c) here.My database is on another physical server, so I wonder if this is caused by an unstable network, or?
    Please help!

    Hi again!
    Sorry for the delay, but I have been busy lately.
    Anyway: Our application server is 10.1.2, so I don't think patch 4307303 is relevant here. Database server is Oracle 9.2.0.6. Everything runs on Linux (of course) ;-).

    If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
    Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded

    Yes i know,but this archive is updated frequently and generally there aren't major changes in the new versions,so a pkgbuild with a similar script may work well for some time...
    So would an external script which automatically updates the PKGBUILD on your machine and then uploads it to the AUR? Simplest I can think of would involve bash, wget/curl, and a bit of sed.
    You could even run every X hours if you feel like it.

    Flash updates so often that this gets annoying. It defeats the whole purpose of pressing Automatic Update.
    Is there a fix for this?
    1) I already went to the Flash Player Settings Manager and it does say "Allow Adobe to install updates"
    2) The mms.cfg file (found this on the net) says:
    SilentAutoUpdateEnable=1
    AutoUpdateDisable=0
    If it matters I'm running on Windows 7 64-bit

    Hi TruSake,
    The latest release of Flash Player was a 'loud' release, therefore it will not be updated via the Background Update (Automatic Update) process. Please see An outline of Flash Runtime installation options, specifically the 'Installation Options' section, for more information on why this is and how often Flash Player is updated.

  • Are EJB ( entity beans) are cached ?

    Are EJB ( entity beans) are cached ?
    I have a doubt here . As per my understanding , the entity beans are cached from the database. In that case , If I delete a row in the database by an external application ( say using TOAD tool) , how the Entity bean will be updated / reloaded ? Entity bean will be out of sync then .
    Application server : weblogic/webspehere .

    >
    You can use the refresh method of the EntityManager interface to read new values from the database (if you expect it to be out of sync), and use locks to prevent others from changing your data while the application is performing actions in a transaction.Did you mean I have to write code for this ? can't be made it automatic refresh by the container ? Is there any settings I can configure so that container can do it by itself proactively ?
    Also, using locks ...is this a container settings or I need to configure myself in ejb-jar.xml ? Could you please shed some light here ?

  • Error while using sybase trigger with the CMP entity bean,ejb version 2.1

    Hi All,
    I am using ejb version 2.1 and using entity bean (Transaction required) ,i am trying to update data in sybase(ver 12.3) database table
    I am using session bean(Transaction required) to update the multiple entity beans in a while loop.It is working fine .But when i am trying to run it with the trigger which updates multiple tables in different sybase databases on update of each entity.Then it throws NoSuchEntityException and it rollback the whole transaction.
    My trigger has only few simple update statements and the trigger runs fine without my CMP entity bean.is the CMP does not support the update triggers in sybase or is it the problem with the transaction.
    Please help
    Thanks
    Anshu

    If you can have a look at a cmp example in the samples that ship with the server. My guess is that the weblogic-ejb-jar.xml file is missing the <persistence-use> element which for 810 would look like:
    <persistence>
    <persistence-use>
    <type-identifier>WebLogic_CMP_RDBMS</type-identifier>
    <type-version>7.0</type-version>
    <type-storage>META-INF/weblogic-cmp-rdbms-jar.xml</type-storage>
    </persistence-use>
    </persistence>
    I seem to recall that the elements might be slightly different in structure for the wls700 version of the DTD, so please check that (I cannot, I'm at home and don't have everything here).
    Give that a try and see if it doesn't solve your compilation failure.
    Also, the compilation should not be throwing a null pointer exception in a case like that, I consider that to be a bug.

  • Session bean with 2 entity bean

    i have a phonebook manager (session bean) taht controls the category of contacts such as group a , group b, group c and group d. where group a b c and d are all entity beans.
    may i know how to control a session bean so that it can diferent which entity beans to invoke ?

    Group might be a table in a database,
    GroupEJB referes to Entity Bean.
    with the following fields. Group Id , Group disciption. where group ID is primary Key.
    Use a session bean and create your group A B C D.( EJB create method).
    Simple i guess.
    Enjoy

  • CMP entity bean update after database update

    I'm new to JDeveloper and J2EE. Since JDev 10.1.3 is now production software I finally got started with it. Everything was quite simple to achieve however I have one problem.
    My current setup is faily easy. I have a statelss session bean and a CMP entity bean using TopLink (both EJB 2.1). Getting them both created went smooth and having the two talk was as easy as pie thanks to Jdev.
    The problem I have is with the entity bean. I'm using a custom finder method to retrieve records using non-PK fields. This works like a charm and I'm getting the data I need. But when I update the data in the database (OracleXE) and I rerun the client I get the old data. The only way for me to get new data is to restart the embedded OC4J server in JDev.
    How can I have the entity bean updated by changes in the database?

    Thanks Avi!
    I spent some time with the documentation and I see I can configure the cache. However how to do this is not clear to me. I have the impression that most of it relates to BMP entity beans.
    Apparantly there is a DoNotCheckCache method I can invoke on the query, but I have no idea how to achieve this...

  • Does an entity bean update result in ALL DB columns being updated?

    Hello,
    If I update a single field in my entity bean, will all the columns for the DB row be updated? -OR will only the changed column value be updated?
    Thank,
    Keith

    Only fields detected as persistent-dirty will be updated in the database record.

  • EJB3 entity bean update, best practice

    I have an ejb3 entity bean that models a time that can be reserved in a booking system.
    I need a way to reserve the time for a specific user. Ofcourse the reservation should not overwrite if the time has already been reserved by another user.
    What is the best/cleaneste way to provide this service?
    I have thought of the following ways.
    I could put a version field on the entity. When the user is set in the frontend the entitybean will check that the time is not already reserved. If not it will be sent backup to the stateless session bean for persisting. If the time has been reserved by another user in the meantime JPA will throw an exception since the version doesn't match any more. The frontend can then show the error to the user.
    I could make the frontend call a method in a stateless session bean to reserve the time. The function could take the times primary id and the users primary id and loaded them from persistence. Then check if the time is already reserver else set the user and persist the time again. This should ofcourse be within a transaction and possibly also use a version attribute on the entity.

    Only fields detected as persistent-dirty will be updated in the database record.
