External Material Number range

Dear all,
Is it possible if I define external number range only with numbers not alphabet. I have defined external number range as 000000001 to zzzzzzzzzzzz but its not accepting external number as 10000203030 when creating material master.
Pls guide

Check 2 Function Modules:
EXIT_SAPLMG02_001 - Customer Exit: Internal Material Number Assignment
EXIT_SAPLMG02_002 - Customer Exit: External Material Number Assignment
Also one material type can only be assigned to one internal and one external number range
both number ranges must not overlay each other,
Number range can be defined like this from 1 to zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz so anything can be done within this one range

    hi

  • How to generate external material number?

    hi all,
I need to create material in the report. this material number is assigned external (manually). but the user want to generate the number.
I only found the function ' MATERIAL_NUMBER_GET_NEXT' , which can only generate the internal number.
Is there other function which can help me to generate the external material number?
    Thanks in advance.
    Ned

you can use another number range II
so you use fm number_get_next to generate a material number .
And you can use this number for mm01 or an interface to create you material number I external

  • External Document Number Range

    Dear Forum,
We have an issue with the Document Number Range that has been defined in the system, according to which the document numbering is automatic. When the users post the entries for audit adjustments in the back date, the numbers jump, which becomes an audit issue. However, to resolve this the users want the externally controlled document number range, so that they have the option to chose the manual numbers. Another problem is that we are using the ledgers 0L as well as 1L, while   the entries are posted in the leading ledger 0L, the same get replicated in the non leading ledger 1L and we want the external document number range in the  non leading ledger 1L also.
Your prompt help would be highly appreciated as to how can we resolve the same.
    Regards

    Hi Dianne,
Your advice is quite helpful. I have one more confusion. The fiscal year for the leading ledger 0L is calender year and for the non leading ledger 1L is the year from April to March. Thus period 03 for 0L corresponds to period 12 of 1L. Therefore, to keep the 'external document numbers' same in 0L and 1L, would the following be corect way, say for year 2010 -
0L Year 2010 (Calender Year Jan to Dec) - External Doc nos. From 01 to 1000
    1L Year 2009 (April'09 to Mar'10) - External Document nos. From 01 to 1000
Thus if the audit adjustmnets are posted on 31 March, 2010 with document no with 001 in 0L, it would appear with same document no. 001 in 1L on 31 March, 2010. In ledger 0L it will be in period 3, but in ledger 1L it will be in period 12.
    Would really appreciate your help.

  • Lexicographic flag setup and material number range change

    Hi gurus,
    got the following situation:
    AS IS:
Tcode MMNR: Number range for material master part number: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA   to   ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ  (lenght 18, external assignment)
Tcode OMSL: Lexicographic flag IS NOT setup
Tcode OMS2: For all material types flag "External no. assignment w/o check" IS SETUP
Basically we can't create numeric only part numbers.
The new requirement is to be able to create numeric part numbers like:
    1234
    12345
    0123
01234  (where the leading zero is a significant character for the part number)
    By doing the following changes:
MMNR: change number range 000000000000000000  to ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
OMSL: setup lexicographic AND leading zeros flag
OMS2: clear flag for External no. assignment w/o check
I see I do achieve the result: numeric part numbers can be created, leading zeros are managed in the correct way and all numeric part numbers are LEFT-aligned, so looking to MARA you would see part numbers like this:
    00012345
    012345
    012345V
    09CATALIST1
    0AFVAU0001
    12345
    23225V
    23243V
    2SIMBACK3210
I did already tried all the above changes in the quality system, then created a numeric part number and an alfanumeric part number, for both of them did create a PO, Inbound delivery, posted MIGO, created a sales order, outbound delivery, PGIed without any issue, stock was displayed and managed correctly by the system, same for material docs.
We already thought about BW, so in case we do the changes BW would be ok.
Apparently everything is fine so I should go for the production system BUT........  in my mind I'm thinking that OMSL Tcode is usually setup day 1 of an Sap project and then usually you forget it... I have the fear that even if everything looks fine (and Sap allows me to change the customizing), I'm going to muck up the system...
Have you ever had the same to do ?  I already saw posts similar to this one but already existing conditions were different so to me this case looks like unique so far..
Any help, suggestion, whatever will be highly appreciated, especially cause I have to take a decision by tomorrow morning
    Many thanks in advance !!

As you never had numeric numbers, it should not create a big problem.
I am working in a system with lexicographical setting in use.
But you have to keep in mind that your sort sequence is quite different to numeric numbers, like this:
    1
    10
    11
    12
    2
    3
    31
    311123
    32
    32012
    4
And you may get the one or other issue if you download material numbers to Excel, with wrong settings you will loose your leading zeros.
A similar effect happens most of the time if user not very familiar with Excel give you a file for an upload, as this often is prepared without leading zeros, which could cause a load to the wrong material if the remaining number would be a duplicate:
    0123 and 123
Of course is a selection by number range  not that easy as it is with numeric numbers.  Usingthe first example a range from 1 to 3 includes materials 10, 11 and  12 as well

  • External material number with trailing spaces

    Hi ,
One of our users created a material number(external number range) by copying it  from a spreadsheet. The value he copied had trailing spaces and when he copied it on to material number field the trailing spaces were not removed by SAP conversion routines . But when we deliberately type in trailing spaces the system removes them. Has anyone faced this kind of problems before? If so what is the solution.
    Thanks,

  • External Alphanumeric Number Range for Internal Orders

    Hello,
I am trying to create external number range for Internal Order Type. I want to create internal orders which will have internal order number as alphanumeric and some will be in only numbers.

  • External Alphanumeric Number range for order

    Hi  ,
My requirement is to create an external number range for one PM order type where
first 8 places from left can be alphanumeric and next 4 places should be numeric only .
    like EQ12341H0112
here last numeric characters(in bold)  actually will specify month and year in format MMYY (0112 means jan2012) . So I doesn't want system to accept  last four characters as 1312 or 0012  also (because month should be in range 01 to 12 only)
How I can achieve the same. What number range i should define for external entry .

    Hi,
You will not be able to achieve this specific logic by just defining a number range. What you can do is define an external number range that is alphanumeric and use exit IWO10017 to format and validate user entry.

  • Adding zeros to the external material number

    Hello Friends,
I needed your assistance with  a routine in BI 7, Infosource Transformations or in the Infoobject transformations (update Rules).
I have data comming from a  flat file without the leading zeros for an infoobject.I need to have the leading zeros but i need a code that will do a record count and then accordingly add the zeros.
EX:     1)  67909344 i need it to look  like  000067909344
              2) 505289 then i need it to look like 000000505289
Basically, if its 8 digit number then i want 4 zeros before it and if its a 6 digit number then i need 6 zeros before it, those are the only tyoes ill have 6 and 8 digits
    Thanks alot.

    Hello Ronit,
    You can use FM CONVERSION_EXIT_ALPHA_INPUT.
Declare a variable to contain that value, for example, 67909344.
If you declare a variable like CHAR10, and use it like this:
    lv_variable = '67909344'.
    CALL FUNCTION 'CONVERSION_EXIT_ALPHA_INPUT'
    EXPORTING
      INPUT  = lv_variable
    IMPORTING
      OUTPUT = lv_variable.
    The result will be 0067909344.
If you declare the variable as length 12, the result will be 000067909344.
    And it goes on...
See if this can be helpful to you.
    Kind regards,
    Bruno

  • Material Master Number Range - Very Urgent

    Hi ,
My client is having existing material codification as below :
all material types for e.g. ROH, HALB, FERT will be starting their material code with 00 or 01 or 02 etc. sine the first two digits denotes the year , which will vary from material to material. The characters used will be from minimum 8 to maximum 14 - Alphanumeric.
for e.g. my material code will be
    for ROH - 000040101F0101
    for FERT - 00801000101
    for HALB - 013000101C
here for all materail type first 2 digit are for year and next will be prod. code , then assy , then sub assy , if forging applicable it will be F , if casting then - C
How this can be mapped in SAP as one series for all material types, is it possible for system to identify the material type, what is advantage & disadvantage of the same.
    Pl. help
    Thanks & Regards,
    Vikas Mayekar.

    Hi
Using Standard SAP for Material number ranges may not be able to map your requiremnts.
But you can use the SAP enhancements available for the Number ranges determination & so onj...
Please use the User exit in CMOD or SMOD
You can use enhancement MGA00002 (for industry) or enhancement MGW00002 (for retail) for this.
For more information, see the documentation for the following components assigned to these enhancements:
    Industry
    EXIT_SAPLMG02_001
    EXIT_SAPLMG02_002
    Retail
    EXIT_SAPLMG72_001
With the exception of the transfer structure, this function is identical to customer enhancement MGA00002 for material number assignment for the material master for industry. Please see customer enhancement MGA00002 for more information and for sample coding.
    EXIT_SAPLMG72_002
With the exception of the transfer structure, this function is identical to customer enhancement MGA00002 for material number assignment for the material master for industry. Please see customer enhancement MGA00002 for more information and for sample coding.

  • External handling unit number range upload

    Hi all,
what would be the configuration procedure to upload the inventory with an external HU number range for legacy inventory and moving forward using the internal number range for new HU's created. should the HU unique check box needs to be disabled?
    Appreciate any thoughts on this.
    thanks.

    Per your info,
in std, You cant maintain HU number ranges with respect to year.
Still if you want to maintain, You have to use Userexit for Number ranges.
Generally, all sales documents number ranges are not year specific . ONly FI documents are year specific.
Why you want to have Year specific number ranges for HU's? - It is nothing to do with Year.
Convince your client, This year dependant HU number ranges doesnt carry any value addition. Still client insists, only way to achieve this is "USEREXIT_NUMBER_RANGE"
    hope it helps

  • Depreciation external  number range

    Hi,
    I am having one doubt:
the depreciation posting always happens with external document number range If the external no range tick is not clicked then the system should take the internal number range.
But if the check is not ticked then the system is not taking internal number range although it is asking for the number range to be external.
I just want to ask is there any other setting which defines that depreciation should be posted with external number range.
    Regards,
    Meenakshi

In earlier version i.e prior to ecc 6.0 the asset depreciation document type number range was external. There is no special settings required , since it is standard procedure.
However from ECC 6.00 you need not define the document type to be external.

  • Material Master number range

    Hi Gurus,
In the our system, following number ranges are set for material master,
    1 - 820000     to 899999     Current number 896492 (internal)
    2 - 900000     to 979999
    3 - 980000 to 999999
The number range 1 is going to complete.
As the next numbers after 899999 is already in use for different material type, I will not be able to extend the material number range 1.
    What should I do,
Should I create altogether new number range and assign to this material type?
    - Will system allow me to add another new number range along with existing number range or I need to remove the existing number range and attach new number range. (not yet tried. based on your feed back will try)
    - If system allow to add the new number range along with existing, will system understand after reaching last number, it will go to next number range and start from there.
    Kindly guide me.
    Thanks & Best Regards,
    Mohan

    Hi,
then just delete the number range from the group and add a new one.
Use the delete icon with the red line to delete the number range from the group.
You have to change the status to 0 first
    To quote the SAP help
    1. Branch to number status maintenance.
    2. Set the number status to '0'.
    3. Branch to interval maintenance.
    4. Delete the interval.
Then you can add a new interval
