Extra plugin container appearing and using loads of CPU

Ok so i have the latest version of Firefox installed, but for some reason occasionally i am getting two plugin containers appearing. And one of them then starts using over 50% of the CPU causing the fans on my rig to start thrashing like crazy. Any ideas how to fix this?

  • Plugin-container.exe is using 90-100% CPU - even while running Firefox in safe-mode. Can I fix this?

I am using fire fox 5.0 (after using 3.6 for what seems like forever) and the plugin-container.exe has been sucking up my CPU power like a vampire. It had been doing that in 3.6 but not as much. I figured if I upgraded the problem would go away, but no, it has not. After reading some other similar posts, I ran Firefox in safe mode with no plugins running and sure enough after browsing for a bit it started running slower and used 90-100% of my CPU. Is there any way to fix this issue? Or am I doomed? Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

That's supposed to show you the problem isn't Firefox, don't know how successful that actually is. You can delete it so that it starts up again. Susggest restarting Firefox when you see it has used about an hour of CPU time as the next hour of CPU time will take shorter to get there and you will be locked out.

  • Ebay causes plugin-container.exe to use high cpu

I am using firefox 6.0.1 with Windows XP SP3 and have noticed that opening my ebay summary page causes plugin-container.exe to use between 60 and 80% of available CPU time. I haven't noticed this problem on other pages nor did I notice it before the recent firefox upgrade.
Not sure if this a firefox or ebay issue.

  • Ended process plugin-container.exe and now it refuses to run again

OK WELL plugin-container.exe was using 95% cpu and i basically could not do anything, so i ended the process.
i figured it would run again when i reopened firefox but as you can see this wasn't the case.
So well, now i'm trying to figure out how to get it to work again since i can't even go on youtube without it apparently haha.
I've tried restarting firefox, my computer, manually running it, and uninstalling and reinstalling firefox :/ and nothing is working.
    Not sure what to do?

Make sure that your firewall doesn't block the plugin-container precess.

  • I looked on my C:\ for plugin-container.exe and deleted the file as it kept slowing down my computor, however now when I load firefox it crashes, how can I re-install this plugin to disable it properly?

My computor had been overly slow which was not normal when looking at processes running in task manager I found plugin-container.exe to be using alot of memory. I looked online and found that this was an update of firefox which was not essential, I then looked on my C:\ drive for the application and deleted it hoping this would solve the problem as I could not find it when looking at my firefox plugins. However now when I open firefox it quickly crashes, how can I reinstall this? Do I need to reinstall firefox completely or is there a more simple solution? I have done the firefox plugin check and it can find no problems.

Probably the easiest way is to download Firefox again from http://www.mozilla.com and re-install it.
If you want to disable plugin-container, see the section on "Disabling crash protection" at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-container_and_out-of-process_plugins

  • Plugin container duplicates and ID

When I close Firefox and look at the Process explorer screen at first I see only one or two plugin containers. Then suddenly I see the plugin-containers start to duplicate and continue to duplicate until over 10 display and then turn red one by one and disappear. I believe these are hidden plugin-containers. I want to be able to unhide all things on my PC and will cease to use Firefox if you continue to program in secret monitoring code. I don't need to be monitored. I don't visit questionable web sites and if someone said I do they are a lier. Please explain these occurrences of plugin container. Also you should program plugin-containers to say what they are like flash or silverlite etc. No need for the mystery and hidden anything.

"''One may argue that Microsoft should re-write the Silverlight plugin so that it works better with the new FF component, but I fear this is wishful thinking. ''"
Well, plugins are made for the browser, not the other way around... I don't know what else to say beyond that.
"''I haven't filed a bug with Mozilla for the same reason: this does not appear to be a common problem, it's more specific to our app, so the important question still stands: how do I dig deeper and try to find out what's wrong with the interaction between our particular code and Plugin-Container.exe?''"
Well, to get in touch with the developers and wanna-be developers, you need to file a bug at bugzilla. Even if you're not sure it's a bug (hundreds of fake bugs are filed everyday, and they are duly ignored or tagged as WONTFIX), filing a bug is the only effective way to tell the developing community about something. If you want to get your hands dirty, you can check Firefox's source code [https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Download_Mozilla_Source_Code here], but I think that will require a level of programming knowledge most people lack. Of course, you can't check the source code for Silverlight, because it's closed source, so, again, you may need to either ask Microsoft for help, or expect them to fix the issue, or contact Mozilla (filing a bug themselves, as sometimes happens) with technical information that is not disclosed at the moment.
At the end of the day, it's not really important, from what I understand, to make the app work on your end: it's important to make sure the app works on everyone's end. So looking for a local fix (such as downgrading or disabling plugin isolation) is a bit irrelevant. Still, there are ways to do that, if you want to know...

  • I have two things attached to my firefox browser which I cannot get rid of. Plugin-container.exe and a tool bar called MywebSearch. How do I get rid of these things?

The tool bar called MyWebSearch has replaced the Mozilla Firefox start page which is Google. I want to remove it. The Plugin-container.exe is something that I do not know about.
    Thank you.
    Bernard Moses

plugin-container.exe is an integral part of Firefox, for details on it and how to disable it if you do not want it see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-container_and_out-of-process_plugins
You can normally uninstall MyWebSearch from the Windows control panel.
    # Close Firefox and any other browsers
    # In the Windows taskbar, from the "Start" menu select "Control Panel"
    # Select "Add/Remove Programs"
    # In the list of installed programs select "My Web Search Bar"
    # Click "Change/Remove" and you should be asked to uninstall it
If the home page is still wrong, use the procedure in this link to change it - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page

  • The plugin-container.exe is using 100% cpu usage???

After I open a few different pages or tabs within the pages, the plugin-container.exe max's my cpu usage and the system hangs horribly. It comes back and then hangs again. The plugin-container is reasonable new, because I don't recall seeing it in the Task Manager. Is there a way to fix this?? I know it's related to some apple piece of garbage software that I could totally do without if that helps.
    Thanks

Plugin-container was introduced in Firefox 3.6.4 to run certain plugins in isolation from the browser, so that when an offending plugin crashes, it does not crash the entire browser, just the tab with the offending plugin. There is information about plugin-container and a method to disable plugin-container in the following article: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-container_and_out-of-process_plugins
If you disable plugin-container, your entire browser will crash if a plugin crashes. If you choose to disable plugin-container, restart Firefox to be sure that plugin-container closes; once started, plugin-container remains open until you restart Firefox.

  • Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition 32 bits Service Pack 2 never finishes searching for updates and use 100% of CPU.

Hi everyone, I am having issues updating a clean Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition 32 bits Service Pack 2, so any help with be appreciated cause I've already tried all my cards for the past 5 days in this particular issue without success.
All I did so far is installing Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise with Service Pack 2, open IE to update, it keeps searching for updates and never stop, after 20mn to 30mn the process svchost.exe start using 100% of my CPU.
I already tried the following scenarios:
1-  Install IE8, install the update KB927891 and the Windows Update Agent 3.0 (I already had this one installed). Reboot and run windows update trough IE8 and the problem did not solved.
2- Install those 2 software "MicrosoftFixit.wu.MATSKB.Run" and "MicrosoftFixit50777", open IE to update, it still hangs and continues eating my CPU. This is the output of "MicrosoftFixit".
Windows Update error 0x8007000D(2014-01-06-T-06_06_34A) --> Not Fixed
Cryptographic service components are not registered (This service is actually running successfully) --> Not Fixed
3- I found the following script that would register some DLL, deleting the "SoftwareDistribution" and forcing windows update to solve the problem and nothing happened either.

Herein is the root cause of your issue. A topic that's been discussed in several blogs, forums, and even in the media since September regards a known issue with attempting to patch IE6 RTM via Windows Update.
Aside from that particular issue... browsing the Internet with an unpatched instance of IE6, especially from a Windows Server system, is also asking for a world of hurt.
    Might I suggest the following:
Download the IE8 for Windows Server 2003 installer to a thumb drive.
Download the latest Cumulative Security Update for IE8 for Windows Server 2003 to a thumb drive.
Reinstall Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 2.
Upgrade to IE8 from the thumb drive installer and apply the
    Cumulative Security Update.
Now your machine is capable of safely browsing to Windows Update to install the rest of the updates (well, maybe, there's also all those other Security Updates from the past seven years that your machine still has vulnerabilites for -- even those seven
years of updates are going to take a Very Long Time to scan for, download, and install).

  • Premiere Pro is not responding and using 587% of CPU

My projects are going extrordinarily slow. and according to the activity monitor, Premiere Pro is using 587% of the CPU and the fan is going non-stop and the macbook is always very hot when I start this program. I feel this could physically damage my laptop if I left it running to render only 286 frames of a clip that takes over an hour to do at this high usage.
Only this program does this to the CPU  When I turn it off Premiere Pro, the heat starts to cool off and the fan slows down, and it eventually goes quite again
    What would be causing this?
I am using a new 15 inch macbook that is a few months old with 16 GB of RAM and 2.6 GHz processor.
I feel Premiere Pro could could almost be a fire hazzard to my home. What is wrong with my system?  have there been previous lawsuites for CS6 for this issue?

Update the GoPro firmware, shoot some footage, and then see if the new footage will work in Premiere Pro for you.

  • Skype increasing lagging and using too much CPU

    Hello,
Since Oct 15 which is approximately when I was upgraded to version 6.9(517) I have noticed that Skype has been lagging very badly. It starts as very tiny lags and eventually over an hour or two the lagging increases to 4-6 second lags. The person on the other end will be talking and in mid sentence Skype will stop (freeze up), the timer on the call will halt, and in 4-6 seconds I will hear the other half of the sentence. While all this was happening I noticed while I was running the "top" command on the command line that my CPU usage would spike anywhere from 60% to more than 100% on Skype. The lagging and freezing would happen approximately every 20 seconds or so. I also noticed when trying to hang up the call and having the other person call me back that even the "ring tone" that is played when a call comes in was lagged and froze in the middle only to resume a few seconds later. It seems the over usage of the CPU might be the culprit but I'm not sure. I've tried everything from resetting the router, reinstalling Skype, clearing out my User/Application/Preferences/com.skype.skype.plist and also the shared.xml in the Application Support/Skype directory. Oh, also once the lagging gets very bad I am unable to close Skype without force closing it. Anyone have any suggestions? This only started a few days ago and prior to that I have zero issues with Skype on a Mac.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I've been spreading the word since my friend found out a solution!
A friend of mine in IT googled and it so far it seems to have eliminated the constant lag I've been getting every 20-30 seconds.
    Here it goes:
    Close skype completely.
Type in your spotlight: Terminal (black box looking icon)
Press enter then type in exactly:
    cd ~/Library/caches/
Press enter again and then type in exactly:
    sudo rm -d -v -r com.skype.skype
WARNING: It will give you a notice of caution that it could delete files, stay calm, all is good (I panicked too), then it'll ask you to type in your password (this refers to your actual mac password: the one you use to make changes to programs, give permission for installations, etc.)
Following the entering of your password there will be a giant wall of text, tons of code that you will not understand. Wait till this finishes (stops) and close terminal. Then proceed to re-open skype. Problem should be fixed! Ta-da!
Be sure to check activity monitor to compare your now normal % CPU levels to the abnormal ones that you were having before !
Goodluck and please let me know if it helps!
