Extracting part of a large MP4 into an swf

I'd like to create an swf (about 2 minutes) from part of a larger (12 minutes) MP4 file. I can do it by using other software, such as Roxio Videowave, to extract the desired portion and create a new shorter MP4 that Flash Pro can process. My question is whether it is possible, or even practical, to do the video extraction using just Flash Pro. It would be desirable to do so because the additional software step appears to reduce the output quality.

Thanks kglad. Works like a charm. As a newby, I wasn't aware of what the export settings function could do. Another thing I'd like to try is overlay some text on the swf video that would disappear (or fade out) after several seconds. I suspect I need to add a second layer on the stage in Flash Pro and create a motion tween that would show the stationary text for the desired time only. Am I on the right track, or is there a different way to do it?

Breaking a large file into multiple SWFs

I've created a project with about 70 slides, including a few that contain full motion video. Is there a way to publish each slide as an individual SWF? If I accomplish publishing each as an individual SWF should I use Aggregator to connect them, or should I have the end action of each slide be open the next slide?

Select all and Hide all the slides in the filmstrip (rightclick when in the filmstrip) then UNHIDE the one you are pubishing, this will result in only publishing the one you have deselected. You will have to pubish 70 times, but it will save you from cutting and pasting them into new projects.

Extract part of xml into CLOB or XMLType

I need to extract part of XML into CLOB or some another type. But I don't need only extract data, by whole part od xml with elements. How could I do it in PL/SQL?

Copy the content of PDF file in Adobe Reader and paset it to MS Word then create PDF file from the Word file.
This may not work for all PDF files as some PDF files are not created correctly or some content cannot be copied.

7.0.2. / Copy and Paste Broken In Large .mp4

I have a large .mp4 movie file. I should be able to select a small portion of it, copy, and then paste into a new QT player. When I do, instead of that happening, it oddly pastes in text from the last webpage I was at. I know... ***?!?
Anyone have a clue to what may be up?

Open the file using QT Pro and view the movie properties. I suspect the file isn't MPEG-4 and instead is a MPEG (1 or 2) muxed track file.
QuickTime can't edit muxed track files. It can only export the video track.
I just tested copy/paste from a "true" .mp4 file on my Tiger machine using QT 7.0.2 Pro. Works fine.
Maybe a restart would fix it for you? Or a possibly corrupt .plist file (Finder) that is preventing the original "copy"?

How Can I Stitch Together Two Large mp4 Files?

I have two very large mp4 files (close to 1 GB each) and I need to join them together into one mp4 file. Is there a free program that will allow me to do that? I tried using iMovie but there wasn't enough room on my hard drive to create an iMovie project for it.

MPEG Streamclip in batch mode will allow you to do this for free. Just make sure they are named in order , e.g. A.avi, b.avi - drag to the batch list and select join files. You will have to reencode them to something like H264 to do this. Which is probably a good idea anyway vs. whatever mystery AVI codec is in use.
If they play in QT and you already have QT Pro, just open both, set the pointer on A to the end of the clip. Then for B select all (CMD+A), copy (CMD+C), then click on the player for A and do paste (CMD+V). "Save as" (new filename) will make a new MOV file without reencoding them.
The SimplemovieX author is supposed to say more than he is the author but that he gets compensation for his recommendations. Since he expects you to buy his software. Don't bother.

Extract part of image & save with transparent background

What is the best way to extract part of an image & save it with a transparent background? I had hoped to the extracted images in 2 different ways.
Firstly just to paste into another image.
Secondly I'd like to try to open both the extracted item as well as the whole original photo in different video editing programs including Premiere Elements & sony Vegas. What is the best way to do this?

Here's what you could do.
First make sure you have both images open in editor
1. Open the image and select the area using the magnetic lasso/quick selection tool.
2. Select Layer -> New -> Layer Via Copy
3. Now in the layers palette, right click the layer and select 'Dulicate Layer'
4. In the duplicate layer dialog, in document - select the other image, where you would like to paste the image to.
5. You and ajust the poition of the pasted area/resize it using the move tool or transform tool (Ctrl + T).
6. Save the image with a new name
If you simply want to save the image with transparency (after step #2) - you may -
> hide the previous layer and Save the image as a png/gif so transparency is presereved.

Extract part of .indd file

I would like to know if it is somehow possible to extract (export) a small part of a larger template. Specifically, I have a template for a book of articles, which is set up exactly as I want it to be. Is it possible to extract only one article from it (i.e., 6 pages from 200).
I have tried several things, but neither worked.

Make a new document with 1 page and ideally same page dimensions. Also open the source document.
In the source document, select the 6 pages in the PAGES panel and from the mini menu chose "Move pages" and in the dialog select the new document.
In the new document delete the one blank page that was created with the new document.
Save new document.

How to convert a large document into a InDesign Book w/Chapters?

I just started a position with a company that has a number of catalogs full of the widgets they sell. Previously the catalog work was outsourced to a company that uses Quark, and the first thing I did when I started was to convert them to InDesign using a 3rd party plugin.
The one I'm working on now is 400+ pages, including a TOC and 2 indexes (words / item nos.), and is currently 4 VERY large files that take 5-10 minutes each to open.
What I'd like to do is split the entire catalog along logical lines into a bunch of 10-50 page documents, then stitch them all back together as Chapters in a Book file. The plan is to have the smaller documents be usable either as stand-alone brochures or as pieces of the big catalog. Once I can get it all organized the way I want, I'll be redoing the TOC and indexes as well.
So, to boil it down to a few questions:
1. How do I split a large document into smaller pieces?
2. I have a basic understanding of creating a Book file, but are there any pitfalls I should watch out for when stitching the bits back together?
3. Is it possible to have page numbering automated so that if I open a chapter on its own the pages will be, say, 1-20; but if I open it in the context of the book file the pages will be, say, 84-104?
4. Are the page numbering, TOC, and indexing tools flexible enough to where if I modify a section such that it adds or removes pages in that section, the entire book file will restructure to accommodate?

Saving x-number of copies as new names, then chop off the unwanted parts is pretty efficient.
2. I have a basic understanding of creating a Book file, but are there any pitfalls I should watch out for when stitching the bits back together?
Nothing specific, other than learning the ins and outs of working with book files. For example, if you change a style in one file, you'd want to use the Synchronize feature to propagate the change to the other files, but you'd also need to remember if any change in one file shouldn't be propagated to others, and deselect it in the Synchronize dialog box.
It's a good idea to open all and save all book files before doing any book-wide operation; even better to save the whole directory for safety. Working on open files gives you some undo powers that working with closed files doesn't.
3. Is it possible to have page numbering automated so that if I open a chapter on its own the pages will be, say, 1-20; but if I open it in the context of the book file the pages will be, say, 84-104?
The individual files need to be checked and perhaps updated or have their numbering restarted when they're removed from the book file's control. It depends on how you've set up the numbering.
4. Are the page numbering, TOC, and indexing tools flexible enough to where if I modify a section such that it adds or removes pages in that section, the entire book file will restructure to accommodate?

Both TOC and Index have check boxes to include all files in the current book. You need to update the TOC, and generate the index again with Replace Existing Index checked, after making changes.

Can't sync very large .mp4 file to iPhone

I have tried to sync a very large .mp4 video (>300MB) to my iPhone but to no avail. Could it be that the file is simply too large or is there another reason?

No, I have 1 gig movies on my iPhone, I would check to make sure that the movie is selected to sync in your movies or TV shows section. Plug your iPhone into you computer, open iTunes then click on your iPhone and click on Movies and then click on TV shows.

Extracting a Report from SAP Spool into a Useful Excel 2010 Format. I'm currently running the following report in SAP and would like the
ability to set this report up as a recurring report running weekly and
subsequently access this report in a useable Excel 2010 format without
much data manipulation. Can you please assist me. Below, I've tried to
provide an example of what I'm encountering. Thanks, beforehand for
your assistance.
Here goes:
Step one: Run 62 Report in SAP S_P99_41000062- Material List Price and
Inventory
Step 2. Select stored Variant "Weekly KPI", ok. Enter the enter the
desired company code and period I want thre report to run for and update
the currency, if necessary. Having input my desired criteria, I believe
I can either execute immediately, run in the background, preset to run
at date in the future. For this example let's just execute, immediately.
This is where the difference originates. Given, I run this report
immediately, I'm able to simply extract the result to Excel via the list
selection noted in the tool bar below. The result is a data friendly
excel 2007 report is automatically generated.

That said, the method outlined above works perfectly fine if you want
the report immediately. Now let go back and run the exact same report
with exceptoin of running it in the background and having to retrieve it
from the Spool (SP01) uisng my user ID. Given the report generated in
the background, I would now access the report via the spool and make
the following selections:
SP01 + execute to see my report
I would hit the sunglasses to see the actual report, then want to
extract this report to Excel by selecting the export option.
I would at this point select spreadsheet and be given an option to save
the spreadsheet to local file. However, upon trying to open the
spreadsheet I will receive an error messageindicating that the format is
different than that which the file I am currently trying to open it
with. I'm currently running Excel 2010 on my computer. The currency
format and other issues arrise with this extract. Please help.

Update to Latest GUI.
Use List -> Export -> Spreadsheet to get the output to excel.
I remember in ALV max length allowed is 1023 characters and the max no of columns supported is 90. Issue occurs when row size of exported data gets more than 1023 character. (This includes if Long/Medium Header Text used ) If it exceed 1023 character the columns splits and moves to next row.
Check your fieldcatog for header lengths.

How do I extract multiple tracks from a CD into a single file in Audition CS6?

I use Audition to edit my Pastor's messages. The message CD is made with five minute tracks. I want to extract the tracks from the CD into a single file for editing and altering the track lengths. I have done this before in Audition CS6, but I haven't been able to find instructions for it. I only found a note stating this is available in AuditionCC.

I have discovered an answer to my problem. The way to bring multiple tracks into Audition CS6 from a CD is to use the FILE / OPEN APPEND / TO NEW command. This brings the separate tracks into a single file in Audition CD6. Thanks to everyone who commented.
