Extracting set hierarchies to BW

hi all,
we have a set hierarchy on R/3, now i need to extract it to bw. what are the steps that involved? i dont see a datasource in rsa5 for that particular hierarchy. do i need a create a generic datasource, if so, what would the FM i need to use.
any help or pointer would be appreciated and fully rewarded.

You can look at GSBH_HIERARCHY_TRANSFER_SETS for an example FM.
RSAX_GEN_HIERARCHY_TRANSFER is a template FM for hierarchy extraction.
If you have to expand a set in your extractor, you may use FM G_SET_TREE_IMPORT to get the nodes.

Would you like to know what are set hirarchies or how to load them into BW ?
Example of set hierarchies are Cost Center, Profit Center or Cost Element hierarchy and there are standard extractors for them.
If you would like to extract set hierarchy which doesn't have standard DataSource you can create your own extractor. To do that you can use FM: G_SET*.

Data Extraction from hierarchies in BW info-object

Dear All,
I have a question here regarding master data extraction from hierarchies from BW info-object.
we have a info-object called as Customer which is defined in the standalone BW system. under the hierarchies for the customer we have the Channel defined.
Now I have created 2 info-objects in APO BW for Customer and Channel. channel is defined as an attribute of the customer.
I am wondering to do I extract data from the Customer info-object in standalone BW to both these charactersitics in APO BW?

Extracting Custom Hierarchies, with additional filters to restrict data.

I am currently working on extracting custom hierarchies from SAP R/3.
I read a article related to it at

My requirement is slightly different though. Since the extraction takes long time, I need to add few fields to selection screen in data source to restrict the data.
P.S: I tried enhancing the extract structure ROHIEROS, but it cannot be enhanced.
So please guide me on this.

Error while generating custom ref sets Hierarchies

I am trying to gernerate datasource for custom reference sets hierarchies through SBIW and getting an error as below.
"Changes to Repository or Cross-Client customizing are not permitted."
How do I fix this problem. Please advise.

hi Ravi,
it seems you are trying to generate datasource in QAs or Production system ? where changes are not allowed.
normally we have to do the changes in Development system and then transport to QAs/Production.
setting to allow changes done with transaction SCC4, but it's basis guy job.

Submit Program "Compile value set hierarchies" manually

We am trying to submit the program "Compile value set hierarchies" manullay through the API , apps.fnd_flex_val_api.submit_vset_hierarchy_compiler, without any success.
Through the API, the program is submitted however it goes into "Pending" and "Stand By" mode, worse thing is we cannot view this through the front end (EBS).
Program "Compile value set hierarchies" has a method type of Immediate we cannot sub,it this through the EBS Form manually.
Is there anything I am missing with the above.
Also, any suggestions to submit the progarm ""Compile value set hierarchies" manually will be greatly appreciated.

Generic Data Extraction : Setting of Upper and Lower Limits

Hi all,
I'm doing the delta extraction for this non-standard infocube which stores data about measuring documents. The strategy I used was to first update a ODS with the new/changed measuring documents determined by their last changed date. Then it will update the infocube with the new values. In order to get the delta measuring documents to go into the ODS, I specify a upper limit of 1 and lower limit of 0 in the extractor's generic delta settings to get measuring documents that are created/changed the previous day. But the system will still take in the full set of measuring document.
Is there something that I have missed out?

Hi,
I dont see anything wrong with what you have done. That is correct, it is recommended that the upper safety interval should be set to 1.
But according to you, the system still gets the newly changed records as of current day. Have you checked the update mode? It should be DELTA UPDATE. It might be marked as FULL UPDATE.
Have you successfully initialized the DELTA Update?
Are you using an appropriate DELTA field? It should be a Calendar Day.

OSB called stateful service & extracting Set-Cookie Transport header

I need to call a Stateful Web service which returns a JSessionId (Set-Cookie) which I need to use to subsequent service calls. In my message flow, a service callout calls a web service which returns a JSessionId which is part of the Transport Header. I need to extract this value into a variable and use it to call a couple of other web service calls using Service callouts. I have tried numerous things listed below but failed
1)     In the service callout Response actions, I have added a Transport header to capture this into a variable but in vain
2)     Added a Transport header in the Response action on the main pipeline
3)     Used Inbound variable to extract however it turns up empty.

When you call the external service it returns a SessionID in the header?
If that is the case then test the service from sbconsole debug console and in the invocation trace check the value of $inbound variable within the context of service callout and check if external service has actually added a transport header for session ID.

Extracting Metadata & Hierarchies

Suppose I have the following roll ups in the Entity dimension:

Is this possible? There will be various levels of nesting, but the main point is that I just want to pick one certain hierarchy from the Entity dimension and have it roll up. The problem I'm having is with base members existing in multiple hierarchies and having only the one default parent listed in the metadata. I've tried the extract tools in the consultant utilities and can't get them in the format above.

The purpose is to "easily" extract a hierarchy to bump up against data in a data warehouse. For example, in our Account dimension we have several hierarchies...2 different types of P&Ls, a Balance Sheet, stat accounts, etc. I'd like to extract one of our P&L structures, but since many of the base members are shared (and have default parents in the other P&L structure) I cannot find a way to do this.
I think Kelly's method would work (extracting using the utilities and creating a macro to fix the excel file to my specs), but I was hoping for a more systematic and less manual extract.

Node characteristic 0CLASS_NUM is not entered as hierarchy characteristic for 0CUSTOMER
my idea was to identify the source table of hierarchy,and identify the field in that table with parent child nodes relationship. and give the top node as Data element in the DataSource, then activate the DataSource and then replicate in BI.

Generate DataSources for Set Hierarchies

There are 3 SET Tables in R/3 SETNODE, SETLEAF, SETHEADERT.
SETNODE contains some groups of GLs. These GL under each group are defined in SETLEAF and SETHEADERTcontains the Description of Each group.
I want to take this whole Hierarchy in BW. Can anybody suggest the way.

I think it is straight forward. Use transaction BW07, select your table and fields for set, select to enter your own name and create the DS. Once the DS is ready, it will appear under FI-SL tree in RSA6.The procedure to complete the dataflow is the same as any other DS afterwards. Hope this helps.

Extracting Hirarchy from set

Hello,
I have a hierarchy which i extract from R3 set. The same infoObject has a few hierarchies. Most of them i extract without any problem but some of the i cant extract (I cant find them RSA3) comparing both sets they look exactly the same. they use the same table and the same field but still one of them i can find with the extractor and the other i cant.

Symptom
An InfoPackage which is to transfer a hierarchy to the BW system is created for an InfoObject with a hierarchy from the Controlling, Profit Center Accounting or FI-SL area (see list under "Additional keywords").
In the InfoPackage scheduler, under the tab title "Select hierarchy', the button "Available hierarchies from OLTP" is pressed".
The displayed list of the available hierarchies from the OLTP system seems to be incomplete.
The following InfoObjects from the application Controlling are affected:

Reason and Prerequisites
This is no program error. The functions are programmed this way, as described under "Solution".
Solution
In the above-mentioned list of the available hierarchies, only the top nodes of the hierarchy from the OLTP System are displayed, that is, only groups which are not used in other groups. All groups at a lower level are contained in the BW System as hierarchy nodes in the available hierarchies.
If a group is not displayed in the list of available hierarchies in the BW System, first check in the OLTP System whether it is used in other groups. To do this, call the transaction for the hierarchy display of the corresponding R/3 master data (see the list under the section "Additional Keywords"). Enter the name of the respective group and start the where-used list (Extras -> Where-used list for group). On the next dialog box, only activate 'Groups' and choose ENTER. Then the groups are displayed which contain the respective group. The highest-level group should be available in the BW System.
On the list in the BW InfoPackage Scheduler the first four characters in the field 'Technical name' correspond to the controlling area which has been entered in the OLTP transaction for the hierarchy display.
For FI-SL sets, you can check the usage via Transaction GS03 -> Utilities -> Se usage. Here, as well, only the sets on the top BW level are available.
As of OLTP Release 4.5 the top nodes can be displayed in the OLTP System as follows (not for FI-SL sets):
In the OLTP System, call the transaction for the hierarchy display of the corresponding R/3 master data (see list under point "Additional keywords").
Press the button F4 on the input field for the corresponding master data group.
In the dialog box, select the field "Only top node", and choose ENTER.
The list of the hierarchy nodes which is now displayed in the R/3 System corresponds to the above-mentioned list of available hierarchies in the BW System. On the list in the BW InfoPackage Scheduler, the first 4 characters in the field "Technical name" correspond to the controlling area that has been entered for the hierarchy display for the OLTP transaction.
