Extraction from generic datasource

Hello,
We are planning to build a generic datasource on a custom table in ECC. I wanted to know if there will be any issues with the extraction if records are being inserted into the table while the extraction is going on?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
The lower safety interval actually helps not to have the data loss but again it is not 100% full proof method. It's correctness depends on how you set the safety interval.
Not necessaraly but sometime it may happen that any record is going beyond safety interval and still failing to get extracted in delta.

Problems with real-time extraction from generic datasource.

Hello,
I have a real-time extraction from generic datasoruce with numeric field as a delta pointer. I have created an initilization infopackage, delta IP and real-time IP, real-time data transfer process, real-time deamon. The problem is that real-time extraction does not see delta updates. Deamon creates requests in PSA every minute, but there are all empty. When i delete the deamon and shedule not real-time delta infopackage, it loads delta records correctly. Version of BI - 7.0 SP 18.
The second question: a cannot stop real-time deamon. I stop it in RSRDA, but when i try to shedule standart IP, i get an error, that deamon is still running. So i have to delete it and recreate.
And the 3rd question, theoretical. What real-time extraction is necessary for? As i understand, i can create a process chain that will be sheduled every 1 (5, 10, ...) minute. What are advantages of real-time extraction rather such variant?

Error while extracting data from Generic datasource

Hello Gurus,
I have encountered an error "Errors in source system" with status red while extracting data from generic datasource into DSO.
I have done below things:-
1. Checked the jobs in source system, the job is successfully completed
2. The generic datasource is active and supporting delta with calender day in source system.
3. No TRfc error and no idocs stucked.
4. No short dumps in source system.
5. The delta queue(RSA7) is showing 0 with status as green.
6. Replicated the datasource On BW side and also activated the transfer rules by RS_TRANSU_ACTIVATE_ALL
The problem has not yet solved. Could you guys please suggest me what might be the reason for this error......

I have used the generic delta using calender day.
Safety upper limit : - 1
Safety lowerr limit : - 0
I have made the entries in va01 transaction, but the delta queus is not getting updated which should show 1.
Do Generic extraction require any job to transfer data from Database table to delta queue.
We are not able to get the delta records on BW side. Please suggest.

Extraction from different datasources

hi,
my problem is we need some fields from one datasource and some in other and some in another.so how can i extract these fields and can use them .can any body give a solution how to achive this.or can we extract the fields from the tables in r/3 which is better option.

There are 3 options of doing this :
Option 1:- If fields that you want from different datasources are related to one particular application area say purchasing/sales then you can enhance the base datasource(contains max no of fields you want) with the required fields from other data sources ...write an ABAP user exit to populate these fields .
Option 2 :- You always have option of creating generic data source based on view/infoset query extraction/function module .
Option 3 : If the required fields are from one particular application area then extract data from these data sources into respective ODS objects . Then you can manipulate the data into Infocube/ODS on top of these base ODS objects if it suits ur requirement.

Error when extraction with generic datasource using function model

Hi,experts,When i check the error log in bw side for one egeneric datasource from R/3 side , it shows all the data from the datasource has been extracted ,and the error lies in the data selection .But when I use the Tcode RSA3 to check the datasource to check the functionality of selection ,its seems ok .

Hi,
Seems function module checks the selection in the infopackage while loading the data. Could you check if there is any selection which is expected but not given in the infopackge or incorrectly given.

Help for BI Content extraction from multiple datasources

I am working on a new installation of BI having just come out of the BW310 and BW350 classes, so please be patient with me. :~) I only have a development instance running, and for my first project, I'm working on the Cross Application Time Sheet. I have the infocube set up for Time Sheet (OCATS_1), plus the other associated ICs (OCATS_C01, OCATS_C02, OCATS_MC1) and I am getting data from the appropriate datasources (0CA_TS, 0CA_TS_IS_1, 0CA_TS_IS_2).
The problem I am getting, is that the transformations from the datasource(s) into the DTP leaves out several fields which are found in the Employee datasource. How would I go about combining the information from the employee datasource into the Time Sheet infocubes along with the timesheet data?

Error in Extraction with Generic Datasource via Function Module

Dear Gurus,
Iam working for BI-HR module.We are extracting data with generic data source via function module. The client some more extra fields in already existing DS. So we made a copy of that Function module and tried to create new generic DS, we got error while extraction like "Error occured during the extraction process". Can you please help in resolving this issue, your valuable suggestion would be highly appreciated.

Which structure are you using??
Are you using the same old structure for this function module as well.
Have you enhanced the structure with new required fields.
New extrac fields needs to be added to existing structure if you are using the same or create a new one and make sure that you have all the fields in the structure which you are going to use in the data source.
You need to take care for the append as well and the issue could be in the code as well.
Make sure you have written the proper code and just for the new fields done an append

Yes it uses 3.x dataflow.
Check the hierrachy datasources for eg which ends with hier ...like attr,txt etc.
You can find them in RSA5 and activate
In case of Generic ones you need to create in RSO2 .

for virtual provider at run time it picks the data from source.
But when i rum the query on this VP iam getting error as

There is a role template S_RO_OSOA_TMPL (DataSource (OSOA) Display/Maintain/Extract) available that contains the authorizations to display, change and extract all DataSources.

Hi ,
As given in your error message that S_RO_OSOA authorization object is missing . You need to include this auth object in the ID from which you are extracting the data using the TCODE : PFCG . You can ask the basis person to do so for you .
When you run any report on a virtual infoprovider , you need to give the authorization of the DTP & the transformations apart from your cube and datasource in PFCG so that it can display the output in the report . This setting is only necessary for virtual cubes.
You can always check the missing authorizations in tcode : SU53 .

You can use any specific Extractors to Create Data Source in R/3 side.
Let me explain with Generic Extraction
Goto SBIW--> you can see all the extractions here
Generic extractors are of 3 types:
1. Based on table/view
2. Based on Info set Query
3. Based on Function module
If you would like to create a custom table, then goto SE11>Select Table>Click on Create (Now create you own table here & use this table while creating Transaction data)
Goto RS02-->Select Transaction data.
Click on Create
Choose an application component to which the data source is to be assigned
Click on Generic Delta
Specify the Delta-Specific and the type for the field.
Specify a safety interval
Select Data type>Save> Now Data source was generated successfully
After generating the data source , you will find Delta Flag checked.

Once you've done with Data Source in R/3 side--> u need to Replicate it to BI

Generic datasource by function module to fetch data from multiple tables?

I'm writing a function module to fetch price, for generic datasource.
At first, extract test is OK. But InfoPackage never stop when loading data to PSA in BW.
And I find the example codes:

Invalid Extract Structure error while creating "Generic DataSource" on a view...

Dear All,
I have created a view on following tables MARA, AFKO and MSEG. The Table/Join condition is as follow:
AFKO--AUFNR = MSEG--AUFNR
AFKO--PLNBEZ = MARA--MATNR
I have included all the fields from MSEG and other all fields from MARA and AFKO. The view is created successfully and contents/records are also being fetched/displayed from this view.
See screen shot as well:
But when I go to RSO2 to create a "Generic DataSource" on this view. I get a series of warning messages and then error message "Invalid Extract Structure" and therefore I'm unable to create my DataSource on this view. See below screen shots of warning and error messages.
Other warning messages are as follow:
Field GAMNG with reference field MEINS: Reference table MARA is replaced by ZOXPRD0150
Field PLSVB with reference field PLNME: Reference table PLKO is replaced by ZOXPRD0150
Field PLSVN with reference field PLNME: Reference table PLKO is replaced by ZOXPRD0150
Field LODIV with reference field MEINS: Reference table MARA is replaced by ZOXPRD0150
Following is the screen shot of error message:
1. How can I get rid of this error message and be able to create my "Generic DataSource" on top of this "View"?
2. What should I do to resolve the above warning and error messages?

Hi Vipul,
as you can find in CKIS table, the reference feild for value feild "WERTN" is missing.
As per the table the reference feild is HWAER. This should have been used in place of FWAER.
Try mentioning this in your view and this should work.
Also I am a little enthusiastic to know, what are you trying to get from the datasource.
If you are trying to get the cost estimate of multi level BOM, not (just one child level), then this approach may not work.
There is a BAPI that gives such itemization split. Just FYI, in case you are looking for multi level explosion.
"BAPI_COSTESTIMATE_ITEMIZATION".

I have created a generic datasource from function module. For this extrator, I created a function module and a structure.
I have now some difficulties to continue:
In this function module, i get data from different transparent tables. Then i put these data into an internal table.
I just don't know what is the relatioin between the structure i defined and this internal table.
I should make "iTab structure AA" in the source code?

Generic Extraction via Function Module

1. Create s structure with the fields that you need from the 4 tables . Activate.
2. Goto SE 80 Select The Function Group , Copy , Select the Function module
" RSAX_BIW_GET_DATA_SIMPLE " and Give a New name starting With
Y or Z .
3. SE37 ->Your Function module name -> Change , In table tab give your structure
name by deleting the associated type given in " XXXX " .
4. Now select source code and Do the coding . Give Data source name in Coding .
In your case you have to take data from more that 1 table .
5. Activate the Function Group .
6. In RSO2 Create the Data source , Give the Function Module Name , And Save.
7. RSA3 -> Give data source name and Check for the Records .
Creation of custom datasource. (Using function module)
.Create a function group .
. Structure ZTXXXX
Create function module (i.e. ZTESTXXX) .
. Create the data source using transaction (RSO2).
. If structure exists for the table parameter of your function module then ok else create a structure for the table parameter .
Test the datasource in R/3 using transaction RSA3.
Transfer the data source to BW System and replicate it in the BW-System.

Identifying the target system using FM extraction in a Generic Datasource

Hi all,
We are using a Generic datasource using FM for extraction from R/3 system to BW system. This Function module picks data from a Z table! After each successful delta extraction from the table, a flag field is set to identify whether the data is pulled or not.
We are about to use BO data services which is connected to the R/3 system to fetch data. For capturing delta records after the BW run has happened, the table can be added a new flag field to pull delta for Data services.
Is there any way to identify which target system's extraction is running particularly in the function module (for e.g., if BW extraction is triggered or BODS extraction is triggered) so as to set the respective target flag in the Z table?

Leandro,
The calling program of your FM should have a local variable I_RLOGSYS which is populated with the BW server ID.
If you don't know how to access a variable in a program that is in call stack using field symbols, search SDN.
I haven't tested this, so you may have to explore a little.
