Hi, Dave. I am familiar with what we all do by default - since we all google the same info. What I want to know is what the items I am asking about actually do. I've got the vast majority of them figured out - and have a list of what they are and who they belong to and how they are controlled.
UpdReg.exe and CTXFireg.exe are the ones I am still scratching my head over - because I haven't seen anything definitive posted by someone who is actually "in the know". It's all parrotted information that's been copied from forum to forum over the years - to the point it has become urban legend.
I've found by experience that assumption is the mother of all screwups. So, I actually want to know, from "someone who has the inside scoop" - what these two utilities actually do. For example, do they do more than one thing? Do they do some sort of housekeeping to restore the volume control levels to the last known-good levels if the machine crashes at shutdown? Do they do that as well as provide the Registration Reminder?
This thing doesn't get deleted automatically - and it reappears when you reinstall-from-scratch. I'd just like to know what's going on - rather than guess or depend upon hearsay.
Could a CL Staffer please comment on this? Thanks.

  • Xfi extreme gamer card help

Hi I have the Xfi extreme gamer card. I just reinstalled windows 7 and got the latest drivers from SoundBlaster . The sound seems muffled . I used Daniel Ks driver in the past and it worked well for me but now I get a error- ?setup was unable to detect the card? .

I can install the XFi Extreme Gamer but the problem is when i restart the computer, the resolution of the monitor drop to 4 bits only. When i check at display card properties, it show this message "This device cannot find enough free resource that it can use". Please help. For the information, my previous sound card is Sound Blaster 5. Li've and i don't have problem with it. My specs:Windows XP SP2RAM 2 GBP4 2.8 GHZ7600 GT (AGP)

  • Extreme gamer card is dead

while back in December i bought a sound blaster extreme gamer and in January it died.
i have tried this card in 3 other computers and it does the same thing the disk and drivers from the site all say can not find the supported product the card is placed in correctly and the red light is on in the back when it says found new hard ware which is about every 20 years it will say multimedia device and then when i try to install the drivers it wont work it does this on my other computers too... what should i do

If it does the same on 3 computers probably it's really dead. If it's still under the retailer warranty try an exchange, otherwise contact CL's support for a RMA.

  • Audigy 2 zs gamer card problem or or something wo

I can install all of the drivers fine but when i run dxdiag i switch to the sound tab and the card is there on the left side but when you look at he driver side its blank except the bottom which says creative but thats all. I've unistalled , installed ,took the card out , then replaced. everything i can think of. I get sound from alot of games but not form Doom 3 and MOH pacific assault. Is it my card or the computer?

This sounds very similar to my problem (see recent post on Audigy 2 ZS running as emulated. In dxdiag my drivers also don't show up as you describe. Is your card running as emulated (shown on dxdiag after the device name? If so it will only be running software not hardware buffering, which may be why certain software doesn't work. For me Pacific Fighters (flight sim) has triple sounds, crackling, stuttering etc.
I'm still looking for a solution (tried here, UK Creative forums, PF forum, searching etc.). So far no re-install of drivers works. Auot-update says everything's fine, but it isn't. Have been told to re-install DirctX but you can't uninstall DirctX9c. Will try shifting card to another slot later. IF that doesn't work I may have to re-install XP and start again. Anyway good luck and let us know if you solve the problem, I'll do likewise.

  • Problems with Installing Software for XFi Extreme Gamer C

Hi, I've just bought an XFi Extreme Gamer card. I've got a dual boot system (two difrent hard discs). The board installed ok under XP and works OK. The problem is that under Win2K Pro the installation comes up with an Entry Point Error for CTXFISPI.EXE WTSRegisterSessionNotification could not be located in WTSAPI32.dll. These files exist on the CD and Hard dri've. I do get sound and music etc but the problem is that when I try to launch the volume control or console etc it says "The current selected audio device is not supported by the application. Do you want select another audio device now?". If you say yes you get the choice of "Follow Windows Default". Now checking the device manager etc you find that Creative SB XFi is there and has no problems. There doesn't seem to be any updated drivers for Win2K on the site, I'm at a bit of a loss what to do next, I only upgraded to try and play some newer games, hasn't helped so far. Also can't launch the diagnostics programme either.
Any suggestions would be great, I don't if it's Windows fault or Creative at the moment.

are you blind man? that what nearly every post on this forum is about the complete lack of vista support. Yes we all have the driver but you can forget the console and all of the advanced connectivity you paid for. Creative are just a joke in my opinion why can't they get this sorted i also use optical in for my xbox 360 i'm totally pissed off with this situation. Come on creative get your act together and get some proper support sorted!!!!

  • Xfi Extreme Gamer. Conections Quest

I got this card to replace an aging Audigy2 but I need to conect the output to my home theater system. The card Boasts a "optical" connection but there is no documentation on how to impliment that method. I have a digital I/0 box but the documentation states it is not compatible with the card. I may return this if I can't get the optical conection to happen and go with the fatality platinum. The break out box seems to have more options. Has anyone got the optical to interface with their reciever and How?Message Update. I returned the Extreme Gamer card? for the Xfi Platinum. The break put box supplies me with the needed optical out signal for my reciever. The digital I/O module did not work (contrary to CL web site).?I still had to make several setting selections internally within CL's interface and Windows before "finally" getting a working signal out (a lot of trial & errors). The signal is kind of weak and the volume needs to be cranked up to a high degree, but hey it works now!? Note to CL. Your connection instructions are vague and less than useful in real world settings. Do you have an opening for a Tech manual writer? ; )Message Edited by jaytmoon on -2-200603:07 PM

Thanks Rad- but Those options won't help me.I really hope someone for creative would jump in here since the product's packaging leads me to believe that this can be done wothout any home made mods or 3rd source cabling. It really looks like a "Truth in advertising" faupa to me!Message Edited by jaytmoon on -7-20062:5 PM

  • X-Fi detected as Extreme Gamer -WHY ? + how to tell which firmware card has (vide nF4 proble

    Hello.
The pictures say it all - new rev. of card, detected as Extreme Gamer. What is going on ?
    http://photos.allegro.pl/photos/oryg...0723/2307235_3
    http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/274/hhhch8.jpg
BTW : the explanation by Creative of the new revisions is most disturbing : the say that they refined the production process, and as result new chips generate more heat ... AND ... they are looking forward into REFINING IT MORE so that they can, here's the best part, reduce the heat emission to level that previous cards had.
I mean ,what the ... ? What kind of rifining is that ?
OK, all in al, I would like someone (hopefully from CREATIVE) to explain it to me - first of all the wierd Extreme Gamer thing, and "the new revisions" thing.
In addition I have another question - I am willing to buy X-Fi. Right now I own a nForce2 based mobo, and in near future (I can not tell how near, or how far) I am going to upgrade the whole PC. It could happen that I end up with nF4 board. The question is : is there any way to verify which firmare version the card has (because I am aware that in case of problems with nF4's, X-Fi cards were replaced with units with new firmware). How do I tell the difference between them ?

My X-Fi is a Dell OEM one.
I assume is a new revision because the disposition of the capacitors is different to the pictures I've seen of the early X-Fi retail ones, and it has a radiator on the chip.
It's being running flawlessly on my rig for about six weeks now.
This is a brief summary of the hardware installed on it:
DFI NF2 UltraInfinity with custom BIOS (homemade tweaks here and there, including new SATA Bios and some fiddling with memory timings/latency, nothing very serious).
Athlon XP3200+ 400 Mhz (Barton core... big troublemaker)
    Thermaltake SilentTower Cooler
    Gb DDR-SDRAM PC3200 (2x52) Infineon slightly overvolted/overclocked (2.80v / 2.5-3-3-7)
Antec TrueBlue 350w PSU (Slowly decaying... the 2v rail is going all over the place, shouting for a new one...)
Asus V9999 GeForce 6800 GT now running on stock clocking (or my PSU will just quit).
    ViewSonic VX2025w
    Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 60Gb 8Mb Cache SATA50 OEM HDD on SATA 0
SpinPoint P Series SP082C 80 Gb on SATA
    Lite-On DVDRW SHM-65P6S on IDE 0
    NEC DVDRW ND-3500AG on IDE
SB X-Fi ExtremeMusic (Dell OEM) in PCI #4 (IRQ 7, not shared)
TP-Link TL-WN650G Wireless Adapter in PCI #5 (IRQ 8, not shared)
Onboard SoundStorm enabled (I use it for ventrilo with a headset)
I run WindowsXP SP2 with all the latest patches/updates (Goddess bless AutoPatcher ^^).
APIC enabled on BIOS and running "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" HAL.
I also have far too much junk installed. For the MB I use the 5.0 drivers (all but the IDE driver)
For the SoundStorm the 4.62 release.
For the X-Fi I use the YouP-Pax 3.33 drivers. (drivers only, no bloatware TYVM)
    For the 6800GT I use the XTreme-G 9.45 drivers.
For the WLAN card I use heavily hacked Atheros drivers (4..2.37 based).
Now, I'm not friend of FPS's, so the only game I've played that qualifies as such is Prey, dri'ven by curiosity more than anything else. The X-Fi behaved during gameplay. No popping/crackling/crashing/jumping/skipping or hopping.
I've extensi'vely played Oblivion (absolutely brilliant, worth every penny, pity my rig can barely cope with it), Dungeon Siege II: Broken World, Final Fantasy XI (can't get over this one... everytime I decide to quit I find myself playing again) and Syberia II (I love this kind of games... pity no one does them anymore...). Again no problems.
I also played a few movies (DVD, DivX, XviD...) with no issues whatsoever.
And my music (both compressed and uncompressed) sounds brilliant.
Not too bad for a $9 investment ^^Message Edited by MrToad on 08-28-2006 2:05 AM

  • Problem with my Extreme-gamer cons

    Hello,
I just bought my soundcard to play on Battlfield 242. And saw the web page "http://www.soundblaster.com/products/gaming/article.asp?articleID=6848&categoryID=3" on how I could make my gaming richer.
And I realise that my Creative Extreme-Gamer Console doesn't have a option called "Sychronize with control panel" in gaming mode.
    Any ideas? Really need help.
    Thanks

  • Major Problem with Soundblaster x-fi Fatal1ty Extreme Gamer Pro Ser

I just built a new system and everything is working great except my sound. I have installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, checked bios, swapped pci slots, used disc drivers, used drivers from soundblaster auto update, tried speaker connections, headphones, and I am at my wits end here. I can hear sound very faintly with headphones/speakers and yes I am sure I am in the right jack and I tried all the jacks just to be certain. If anyone has any ideas please post.
My system specs are Windows XP Pro SP2 , Intel Core 2 Duo @2.33Ghz, 2GB of Corsair DDR2 RAM,
XFX Geforce 8800 GT 52DDR3 Alpha Dog, and an MSI P35 Neo Combo Mobo with a 650W Power Supply.

anyone please? A post, a link, advice, anything? There is nothing that I can think of to try. I uninstalled and reinstalled in every possible way. Put the card in another PC to be sure that it wasn't defecti've and it worked fine, checked and rechecked to be certain that each time I reinstalled that there were no previous traces of creative drivers left on the system that could cause a conflict. On board audio disabled in bios, tried both PCI slots on my computer. On another note, I took my old X-fi extreme music card and that wouldn't work in my PC either.

  • Windows 7 64 bit + Extreme Gamer = no mic

    Hi,
Installed Windows 7 tonight thinking that surely i wouldn't have any problems with drivers after he Audigy 2ZS/Vista Fiasco and guess what. My Mic does not work. It should just work out of the box!
Used current drivers from creatives own site but couldn't find any option to correct in settings. Vent and windows register volume levels when i speak and i can hear myself in my own headphones but no sound is being transmitted on vent, or in steam.
I have uninstalled everything. Can anyone help?
    Thanks....

-Re: Windows 7 64 bit + Extreme Gamer = no mic?
Now this is a long shot. This is an experiment for you, but it was a success for me. Running Vista and Windows 7, I switched several times between my x-fi FATALITY PRO PCI and my X-FI Titanium PCI-Express. I accidentally formatted my system without switching out sound cards and I installed the drivers for my X-FI Titanium. I had unzipped them with Winrar to look in the directories, hoping to learn .ini files and their customizable settings. I chose update, and then have disk and browsed to the location of the TITANIUM drivers by mistake, and I updated my X-FI Fatality PCI. Well what do you know? It worked. I used that card with the wrong driver, and it restored my what u hear function and my microphone worked great. You may want to try it........you may not. Just a suggestion. Download the Titanium driver, unzip it with winrar winace or 7-zip, and then manually update it with the have disk, and browse to the unpacked folder. Restart and you will have sound. Check your micophone and sound now......You will have to reconfigure your EQ and speaker settings and always be sure to NOT check full range speakers in the control panel, speakers applet.

  • Sound disappears randomly on Extreme Gamer XiFi Fatal

    Hi all,
Very new to the forums here and?I was wondering if anyone could advise me on what I can do. I've been experiencing random and complete sound loss during online gaming and sometimes during browsing or sound distortion while gaming or playing online vids such as youtube. Currently running vista home premium on a quad core system and I have the?lastest driver/software updates for everything. I read a sticky about some Vista compatibiliy issues, but it was an old post so I assume things ought to be fixed by now? Wondering if I should return my card for a warranty replacement or something. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am experiencing similar problems. I installed an x-fi extreme gamer in a new system in November and all was well until 3 weeks?ago. The sound now still works at first boot or immediately after a reboot, but has started dropping out to be replaced by?white noise after anything from a?few minutes?to tens of minutes after switch on. This only resolves after reboot. Starting creative Console, Sound Recorder etc. after the white noise has started results in BSOD.
    System details as follows:
Asus Maximus Formula (458 MHz FSB)
    Core 2 Duo E6750 (8 x multiplier)
    4 GB Corsair DDR2 800
    BFG 8800 GTS?320 MB
    Sound Blaster Xtreme Gamer
Vista Home Premium 32 bit with SP
    500 GB Samsung SATA HD
    620?W Corsair PSU
Have uninstalled and reinstalled all latest drivers.
Any thoughts welcome, have tried everything I can think of.

  • This X-FI Extreme Music Card is Crap!!

&This X-FI Extreme Music Card is Crap!!Y I am totally fed up with this card AND Creative Labs!! I have tried every single way possible to install this software without success. I have installed and uninstalled the software 20 times, each time I install it gives me a different result...How is that possible? I've installed in regular mode, safe mode, standing on one leg, etc. This thing has not worked right EVER!!! Support is non-existent unless you try the forums....so Creative expects us to solve problems for them? I installed the automatic update feature at their request, updated everything, and then went to the Creative website and found out the update feature doesn't even work for Vista! WTF?!? I had to BUY the software CD for Vista from Creative and THAT didn't work right. THEY ALL HAVE TO BE ON DRUGS!!! THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST PIECE OF HARDWARE I HAVE EVER PURCHASED!

That's right, I did buy it from Dell, BUT, I did some checking and the only thing Dell did was include a audio cable that would make it work in one of their systems....No mod to the board. Dell told me to contact Creative for an RMA. Ceati've said 'Sorry, we can't do that because the card could've been altered, BUT, we'll be happy to sell you another one!" So I'm stuck with it. I? installed running XP on my computer but never had it working right (continual errors, mixer would not lauch, etc.) and then I upgraded to Vista. I went to the Ceati've website to find drivers and found out I had to buy a CD for $0. OK. I get the disk and install...uninstall, try safe mode, try normal mode again, get it to work but no spidf or coax. I can't change my speakers to 5. because it's stuck on 2. ( except one time I installed and it showed 5. in game mode but 2. in the other two modes). Tried taking out all but GB of RAM. I tried every concievable way to get a good install with no luck. My experiences with this card is not unique. I have found other people having the exact same problems with this card and Vista. What I don't understand is why every time I uninstall and re-install the software it does something different ( some features install one time, the next install those don't but others do). I tried Driver Sweeper...no go. THIS IS WHY I'M PI*@ED OFF! If anyone can think of something to do I am more than willing to try it. Am I just a dumb *** or [email protected]

  • MacBook Pro 15" video card problems (i think)

Can anyone tell me if this is indeed a video card problem?
    MBP 15" info (Dec. 2011)
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    OS X Lion 10.7.5
    This is what happened:
I use my mbp heavily because I edit a lot of videos with Premiere. I also use lightroom / photoshop alot + games. I also installed Parallels desktop late 2013. I don't know if that is relevant but anyway. Everything started late 2013 (a little after installing parallels actually) when there are moments when the audio wouldn't work and I couldn't adjust the volume. It would come back anyway so i didn't mind it. Then the fans were on high speed for little activity. After that the keyboard backlight couldn't be adjusted and wouldnt work. I ignored all of these cuz i wasn't troubling me at the time. In January i left for france to study - I use bike all the time and once stupidly placed my laptop on the basket going to school (rough roads). I had a class with html so I had to open Parallels, my teacher pointed out the fans and how loud they were. That day, parallels desktop said i must upgrade to windows 9 or it will restart every 2hours. I didn't of course. I didn't have time to.
After that (a few days later i think) my laptop would randomly turn into a black screen but it's still on (the power LED is on) I tried turning it off by pressing down the power button and then turning it back on. It worked the first time. During the first week, the frequency of it happening grew. It would do it almost 3 times a day. during that same week I tried to do an SMC reset. It fixed the keyboard light, fans and audio but not the black screen thing. It just keeps on happening around 1-3 times a day. It only happens when I'm using it btw, never when I just leave it. ALSO, after a few days, it would take longer hours to open my mbp again. I mean, the screen would turn black. i would turn it off, then on again. I will ONLY hear the hard drive moving but no startup sound and no grey screen and apple logo. nothing.
The following weeks after that, I asked a friend to help me out. He suggested that I install gfxCardStatus because he said it might be my video card. He instructed that I keep it on intergrated only. So I installed that and did what he said I thought it worked for a while because the black screens stopped happening (even when gfx keeps on going back to dynamic) BUT NOW, MY LAPTOP WOULD FREEZE (not turn black). I'd shut it down using the power button but it still takes me hours to open it again. Sometimes, I'd wait for the battery to drain because it would startup when i charge it (sometimes)
    I tried doing AHT as well to confirm the video card problem, but the results are no problems found. I really don't want to replace my logicboard here in france. everything is more expensive here. ;__;
Today I uninstalled parallels to see if that might have had anything to do with my problem now but i think that's just wishful thinking.
Can somebody tell me if this is really about the video card? Thank you
