Faces-config redirect issue

Hi,
My JSF application needs to be populated with some values on the load of the page. Essentially these values need to be fecthed only on first logon.
So in order to avoid going to database on page load all the time, I wrote onload action in index.jsp. I return a string success/failure from that action which should forward control from index.jsp to either search.jsp/error.jsp.
This is how I hv declared it in my faces-config.xml:
<navigation-rule>
<from-view-id>/index.jsp</from-view-id>
<navigation-case>
<from-outcome>success</from-outcome>
<to-view-id>/search.jsp</to-view-id>
<redirect/>
</navigation-case>
</navigation-rule>If I don't put <redirect/> here, then even though search.jsp page shows, I am not able to perform any action on it.Non of my buttons are submitted. I want to get rid of <redirect/> as I don't want browser URL to change.
Please note that this is an ajax enabled application and I use a4j tag library fo ajax support.
Can some please clarify on this??
Thanks in advance!

This probably won't help you b/c you're actually using JSF, which I am not nor have I used yet, but I was getting validation errors in Rational Application Developer 6.0.1 similarly. RAD has two validators (in addition to others) turned on by default: Faces Client Validator and Faces JSP Validator. I'm not sure, but it looks like I was getting a timeout when trying to verify a URL located in the Struts 1.2.8 validator-rules.xml file:
http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/dtds/validator_1_1_3.dtd
RAD would eventually spit out an error listed in the 'Problems' tab that indicated a timeout occurred--probably due to a bad connection while trying to validate. Anyway, I went into the Window menu, selected Preferences -> Validation and deselected the two validators mentioned above. After saving that change, I cleaned my workspace and rebuilt all of the projects. This time RAD didn't complain and all of the projects were rebuilt successfully.
Hopefully this info will be of use to others.

  • Issue with faces-config.xml file

    Hi,
    I'm working on a project which needs more no. of JSF Pages and JSF Navigations,
    But when i trying to creat pages more than 25 pages,the process becoming too slow,does this
    effects the Application performance?Can any one suggest me why it happens and what are the
    limitations for creating the JSF pages.
    Does their any alternative to solve this Issue,I'm thing to create more faces-config.xml files as the
    Jsf pages increases,does this solves?
    Please suggest me.
    Thank you,
    Bandaru,

    Hi Bandaru,
    Are you trying to use the visual diagram option of faces-config? Coz i encountered difficulties when using it with many pages (more than 40) and the faces-config.oxd_faces was no longer able to support the diagram. "Solution" was to use only the overview and the sources of the faces-config. I don't know exactly but my problems were caused by the faces-config.oxd_faces and i don't think it affects performances for the application.
    For information, that was on a Jdev 10.1.3.0.4

    Tif

  • When To Use redirect/ In faces-config.xml

    In what situations should I use <redirect/> in faces-config. I understand what that using it causes it to generate a HTTP redirect instead of redirection through the view handler.
    I have ran into situations where if I don't use redirect, evein in a request scoped bean data isn't completely cleared out of a form. IE I have a list of users with a list of their addresses. If I look at an address on user 1 I see the right details, if I then move to user2 and look at one of his addresses it reflects the information from user1. As soon as I add <redirect/> the problem disappears.

    You normally use it to fire a brand new request.
    If I look at an address on user 1 I see the right details, if I then move to user2 and look at one of his addresses it reflects the information from user1. As soon as I add <redirect/> the problem disappears.This rather sounds like faulty code logic. Debug it.

  • Reference faces-config.xml file from java code.

    I would like to reference the navigation rules I have set up in my faces-config.xml file from inside my source code.
    For example:
    Navigation Rule:
    <navigation-rule>
    <from-view-id>*</from-view-id>
    <navigation-case>
    <from-outcome>pricingEngine</from-outcome>
    <to-view-id>/faces/template/t_pricing_engine.jsf</to-view-id>
    <redirect/>
    </navigation-case>
    </navigation-rule>
    I would like do some sort of lookup by 'pricingEngine' and get '/faces/template/t_pricing_engine.jsf' back.
    Any ideas?

  • Guest Anchor - Web Passthrough - Apple device web redirect issue

    Hi All,
    I've setup a Guest Mobility Anchor at DMZ with 5508 WLC. I've setup the EoIP mobility tunnel and everything works so far.
    Now, I was testing multiple clients to connect to the Guest SSID and observed that Apple devices are not redirecting url, resulting unsuccessful connection.
    I looked Cisco docs and added the command "config network web-auth captive-bypass enable" on the Anchor as recommended.
    Even after executing the command, I'm still facing web redirect issue with Apple Devices. I don't have any issues with other devices, except Apple.
    My controller running code AirOS 7.6.130.0. I'm using DMZ controller as DHCP server for Guests and public DNS servers as 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4
    How to solve this web redirect issue? Will a Third-party generated CSR solves the problem?
    Thanks,
    CJ

    Hi All,
    The issue was with WISPr Protocol with iOS Clients. After upgrading the AirOS Code on the controller to 8.0.100.0; the issue with Web Redirect is resolved.

  • Question for faces-config.xml

    How can I make <redirect/> as the default behavior in the faces-config.xml?
    Thanks.
    Shawn

    Thanks Frank.
    JSF 2.0 has introduced a new scope, flash scope, for just such a requirement. With the flash scope, the request scoped variables are available after a redirect. Variables in the Flash scope are available for the subsequent request and then cleared.

  • Regarding faces-config.xml

    Hi,
    Am using JHeadStart for page generation. Am having 4 ApplicationDefinition.xml file like setup, loan, lease and loc. If i give run application generator to 1 by 1, then finally if i run the page of the 1st generated one, then the page is displayed but the menu it uses is different and also the faces-config.xml is overwritten, so i cant able to traverse in the pages which are created for the particular ApplicationDefinition.xml file which is generated before the previous one. So pls help me solving the issue so that i can have 4 AppDef.xml file and can run all the pages generated from those 4 files at any instance of time.

    You need to set different values for the service-level property "Main Faces Config" in each application definition, for example faces-config-setup.xml, faces-config-loan.xml, etc.

  • Re: com.sun.faces.config.ConfigListener not found

    I am using Tomcat 4.1.24 and got the demos from EA4 working. Now I am getting an error in my own JSF WAR file about com.sun.faces.config.ConfigListener class cannot be found.
    What jar file would I be missing?
    Thank you.

    Hi All,
    I am facing the same problem on TOmcat 4.0. I copied the jsf-ri.jar from war file/lib to tomcat_home/common/lib and the problem was resolved. Can anyone from Sun address this issue please as to why this is so?
    Also, now the container is not able to access the Faces Servlet. I should mention here that this does not work only when deployed as a war file.

  • Contents merging for multiple faces-config.xml

    Hi, I know from another post that it's possible to use multiple faces-config.xml. Ok. But which rules do apply for merging contents ? If I have a multiple components application, then I expect to have a single faces-config per component, containing its managed beans, while I would keep navigation rules and general issues (such as facelets config) into a common faces-config.
    Would it work that way ?

  • Faces-config

    I have a page with a submit button that I want to open a pdf file. In my backing bean, I have:
    public String submit() {
              return "download_coupons";
         }In my faces-config.xml file I have:
    <navigation-rule>
              <from-view-id>/coupons.jsp</from-view-id>
    <navigation-case>
              <from-outcome>download_coupons</from-outcome>
              <to-view-id>/images/online_cpns.pdf</to-view-id>
         </navigation-case>
    </navigation-rule>
    When i submit my page, I get a 404 error. Can I go to a pdf file this way?
    Thanks

    Have you tried <redirect /> inside of your navigation rules?
    JSF performs an HTTP redirect and calls
    responseComplete() on the FacesContext
    instance for the current request. So <redirect/> produces
    a non-faces response.

  • When do you need to register the message bundle in the faces-config

    hello
    i have applied two examples to localize messages, label, title by creating message.properties file and utilizing the f:loadbundle component the EL expression. It works like a charm without having to register anything, I have only registered the locale, but not the bundle
    also , i have used a programmatic approach
    FacesContext fc = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    ResourceBundle msg = ResourceBundle.getBundle("message",fc.getViewRoot().getLocale());
    fc.addMessage(FacesMessage.SEVERITY_FATAL.toString(),new FacesMessage(msg.getString("ok")));
    which also worked without registering the message bundle!!
    although many article i read ask to register the message bundle.
    Another thing is that in Oracle Jdeveloper 10g for FORMS and PL/SQL Developers states that the message file needs to be located in \resource subdirectory
    and using getBundle (resources.message) to get it. In fact i kept getting errors indicating that the base bundle cannot be read until i located the file in the ViewContoller directory itself (and that is why i reference it with getBundle("message") rather than resources.message as indicated in the book.
    appreciate your response

    Hi,
    Your question is not very clear. But let get through some various guideline.
    <f:loadBundle/> is horribly buggy and was all but removed from the specification. As a tag, it gets only evaluated during the render view phase, meaning that if you have EL expression referring the loadBundle's var during another phase, it's going to fail. The most common case is during validation with overridden messages.
    About the programmatic access, the problem is that you're linking your application to a specific bundle at code level. Meaning that you're preventing it to be reused in a different context, while the following get the most application local bundle name (faces-config.xml's message-bundle property)
    Resourcebundle.getBundle(FacesContext.getApplication().getMessageBundle())Registration is also the only way to override the default conversion / validation messages.
    For JSF 1.1 (10g), those are your option. However, if you're using JSF 1.2 (11g), you can also register resource bundles in the faces-config file, you then register the bundle and the var associated to it, removing the need of f:loadBundle and fixing the non render phase issues. furthermore, the code version is also simplified to:
    FacesContext context = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    ResourceBundle bundle = context.getApplication().getResourceBundle(context, "varName");
    bundle.getString("myKey");You other part about \resource I never heard of nor cared for. You can place the bundle where you like on the classpath.

  • Raise actions in faces-config ?

    Hi
    Does anyone know if theres a way to raise actions in faces-config.xml (or any of the other config xml files) ?
    Ideally i want a <navigation-rule> that will redirect to a specific page but also raise an event (so that an Observer method can be run in the background)
    Thanks for any input
    -Rich

    Thanks, i managed it using a navigation handler. For anyone else interested this link is pretty good, it explains how to implement a very simple custom NavigationHandler:

  • Single EAR multiple WAR model - faces-config not loading

    Hi
    I am deploying my application on weblogic 10.3 My application is in form of a Single-EAR-Multiple-WAR model. The application starts up correctly but when i bavigate from one module (WAR) to another (WAR), it doesnt initializes the managed beans. It is not able to load the faces-config from the second WAR.
    can anyone please let me know ehat am i missing?
    Thanks a lot
    -Ankur

    Hi,
    This is not an issue caused by having multiple wars inside same ear.
    This looks like a runtime exception when trying to render the jsp (The jsp is compiled to a sevlet and the inside the service method of the servlet you are getting this exception). Double check you jsp for the possible cause of this exception.
    Thanks,
