Facetime email initiated call fails

I'm running ios4.1
I can make a facetime call to my mates phone using his number but when I try to call using his email address the call always fails.
I thought 4.1 allowed facetime calls initiated via an email address??

1. ipod touch can make facetime calls internationally without long distance phone charges, which is an unfair advantage over iphone 4 - & we iphone 4 users paid more for the machine!
So can the iPhone. You don't have to initiate a FaceTime video call with a phone call with the iPhone. And not everyone paid more for the iPhone than an iPod Touch. In the U.S., the iPhone 4 can be purchased for $199 with the 16GB and $299 with the 32GB, which is AT&T's subsidized or discounted price. The iPod Touch costs more than that.
2. we cannot make "iphone to ipod" or vice versa facetime calls, which is of great inconvenience. They are similar device, similar functions, so inter-communication should be made possible.
Yes you can. You initiate a FaceTime call with an iPod Touch by selecting the iPod Touch user's email address that the iPod Touch user registered their iPod Touch with Apple's FaceTime server. An iPod Touch user selects the iPhone's phone number to initiate a FaceTime video call.
3. we iphone 4 users can see "calling with email" option in our pull-up menu anyways!
That is for initiating a FaceTime video call with an iPod Touch user that has the email address registered with Apple's FaceTime server.

+Video calling is in full effect on iPod touch. Now your friends can see what you’re up to, when you’re up to it. With the tap of a button, you can wave "hi" while standing in a foreign country, get a second opinion on a pair of boots, or have your friends bear witness to the everyday pranks, bets, and dares they otherwise might have missed — *new iPod touch to new iPod touch _or iPhone 4 over Wi-Fi_.* And come face to face with even more fun.+

  • IPhone 4S Siri Will No Longer Voice Dial Contacts - Always Call Failed

I am not exactly sure when this started (5.0.1?), but when I ask Siri to dial someone in my contacts, Siri recognizes the request, proceeds to Dial the number and no matter which contact I try, I get an immediate "CALL FAILED" and then the iPhone immediately locks. I have restored the iPhone as new, Reset Network Settings, etc. to no avail. If I turn Siri off from Settings, the phone will revert to the previous Voice Control that was present in previous iPhones and Voice Calls are successful. Only when trying to use Siri do all voice initiated calls fail. And it is 100% consistent in the failure. This does not appear to be a Siri network issue, as all Siri other Siri requests work and are speedy. Co-workers with the 4S are also experiencing the same issue, so it does not appear to be specific to just my iPhone. Can anyone else confirm? Thanks.

OK, so i have tracked it down to a single AT&T Cell Tower location in my instance, but it also just so happens to be at my office, which means I am affected by it all day. What is happening is that at this particular location, the AT&T tower is misconfigured or experiencing some type of technical issue, resulting in the inability of the cell tower to handle simultaneous voice and data. Siri uses data to match the contacts, names etc and hands off to the Phone dialer, which immediately experiences a call failure as a result of the 3G Data still being in use by Siri. You can verify simultaneous voice and data connectivity by placing a voice call and then attempting to use 3G data (you must not be using WiFi to determine if this is a problem with the Cell network). While in a voice call, launch the Speedtest.net Mobile Speed Test app. You will clearly see that 3G data services have all but ceased if this is your problem. End the Voice Call and run the Speedtest.net Mobile Speed Test again and 3G data will work fine.
I have reported the problem via AT&T's Mark the Spot App numerous times and had my colleagues do the same and called AT&T Wireless customer service to no avail. They simply refuse to acknowledge the issue is on their end. I personally know at least 5 other iPhone 4S users in my office who are experiencing the same issue and the results can be consistently recreated on all of their devices. And again, once they leave the office in the afternoon, all of their services return to normal and they can again make and place Voice initiated phone calls without the dreaded Call Failed. Thanks AT&T.

My FaceTime will make the call but will not connect and will sometimes say call failed. What do i do?

don't update to iOS7 just yet if you prefer 6.  Many are saying that's the cure, but there are lots of iOS7 users here who can't make Facetime work either.
It would seem Apple has either a big problem on their hands, as this is now a week old, or they don't know how to fix it.  Either way, email Apple tech support your concerns

  • Hi, I use facetime regularly with my parents who live outside US and it stopped working. Their ipad2 rings, says connecting..and then 'call failed'. Upgrading their iOS5 (or 6) is not a option as my parents do not know to do this. Please help

Hi, I use facetime regularly with my parents who live outside US and it stopped working. Their ipad2 rings, says connecting..and then 'call failed'. Upgrading their iOS5 (or 6) is not a option as my parents do not know to do this. I came across forums where this issue is mentioned on apple support and cnet.
Is there another option apart from upgrading ?

Well, in his defense, his parents bought him the player so I guess we can't blame him. Though the 6 GB versions were available in November so I guess they really did get 'nervous' about Christmas and like to get their shopping done early! Kudo's to you for trying to remain with the Creative line but for what you're looking for it's obviously not the player for you. Creative seems to be fine-tuning their line for the audio crowd. I'm into mp3 players for the audio. Sure, the ability to watch video's and look at pictures on a decent screen is a plus but for me at least, it's all about the music. And with music, 6 GB is more than enough. Heck, 8 GB would have been more than enough for me. I'm a subscriber to Napster-to-go, so I don't feel the need to carry 00 plus GB of stuff on my portable player. I honestly don't understand the desire to watch movies or TV shows on tiny little screens. But you're also talking to a guy who doesn't watch television. What a complete waste of time and brain cells. Probably the **competitor products we can't discuss here** or one of those players would better suit your needs. Companies are definately picking their niche markets carefully and Creative's decision to not offer hard dri've players any more seems to definately be saying bye-bye to that market. I can't say I blame them. Hard dri'ves eventually give up the ghost and are quite delicate for people on the go. Good ridance, I say. Let Apple, Zune and all the others cater to the Z generation's need to be spoonfed their video/TV addictions anywhere and everywhere. I'll pass. It's one thing to be able to enjoy some music on the go and enhance an otherwise dull work day or dri've. But movies/TV shows at work, school, or wherever? Please. Cut the cord! Just my $.02 - YMMV! If FaceTime ever worked properly for you, restarting your modem (and separate router/wireless if you have such) may help.  If the problem continues, try connecting at a different location to see if the problem is within your wi-fi.
The black dot problem may mean you need to reset your iPod.  If that does not help, it may need service by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

  • FaceTime will not connect, keep getting Call Failed

Since middle of last week have not been able to make calls with FaceTime keep getting message saying connecting, then get "Call Failed'

I had the same issue.  FT worked fine on my iPhone, iPad, and one of our iMacs, but not our newest iMac.
After searching all over, I stumbled on the solution.
Here is the snip that worked for me...
Click the Finder icon in the Dock.
Choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
    Type:  /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
    Click Go.
In the Finder window, locate the file named "NetworkInterfaces.plist" and drag this file to the Trash.
    Restart your computer.

  • Has Apple said anything about a problem with FaceTime calls failing?

I have tried FaceTime on three different devices, called four different people and every calls fails. Tried the calls on wifi as well as AT&T data...nothing works!!! My kids want to FaceTime with their grandparents...help!!!

ios 6.1 to ios 7.1 works
ios 7.0.6 to ios 6.1 works
ios 7.0.6 to ios 7.1 works
    and all work both directions.
Try logging out on both devices and logging back in
It's most likely not a worldwide or even country problem.  Apple, like all big companies will host they're services on multiple servers.

  • My iPad2 won't connect to another iPad2 for FaceTime. It rings, says connecting, then call failed. Also no sound on my FaceTime. Mute off and all settings set for sound.

My ipad2 won't connect to another ipad2. It rings, says connecting, then says call failed. I've connected with this person before. Stopped working recently. And my audio won't work on FaceTime. Mute is off and all settings set for sound.

I've had this issue between 2 iMacs and an iPad2. No solutions yet, and I've tried changing the DNS. Sorry.

  • I can't make/receive calls on days old iPhone 4.  Just says Call Failed.

Same thing is happening with my girlfriend's 3Gs. The person being called hears half a ring then phone cuts out. I have all bars but when call fails bars all drop for a moment, then return. I've reset network settings and everything else. What the **** ****!?
Not sure if it's an AT&T issue, or iPhone or both. I drove out of town and was able to make calls again. Once i returned the problem resumed. I called AT&T and they have no knowledge of network outages in my area. My girl's co-worker (also an iphone owner-3Gs) is having the same issue.
I put up with AT&T's horrid service with crappy coverage and failed calls all the time but this is far worse. I CAN'T USE MY PHONE!
Somebody please help me before I murder this thing and buy a Droid X.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, it does not make a difference. It still shows "iPhone not available. iPhone and Mac have to be in the same network"
Are there any settings which are fundamental on the iPhone, I have activated:
    - iCloud Drive
    - FaceTime (FaceTime and iPhone Mobile Calls activated)
The only strange thing - on Yosemite I can activate mobile phone number AND email in FaceTime whereas I can activate just my email in the FaceTime app on my iPhone...

I made a CF/Flex site based on the Flexstore sample app,
using a database instead of XML as the data source; in case you
    want to see it:

    At first I had troubles similar to what you describe;
initially, part of the problem was that my hosting company had not
yet upgraded to CF 7.02. One other thing I had to correct: when you
upload to your server, upload the entire ‘bin’ (or
whatever your output folder is) minus the debug SWF.
If it would help with other issues, contact me and I will be
glad to make my project code available to you. Good luck.

How do I get messages to go back to an AIM account? It's only seeing the iPad's Facetime email address and not seeing the old AIM account name that is on my desktop. I am using my iMac using iChat to talk to a newer iMac that doesn't have iChat. We had this working using Messages and Facetime (on the new machine) talking to my existing iChat account. One day last week, when Facetime rang, my kids answered on the iPad. Dang! Now it's all fouled up! The new iMac won't see my AIM account name and shows that I'm offline, because the iPad is off. We were able to call using "most recent call" in Facetime, but now I can't go and control that new iMac remotely to help with some email concerns the user is having. I'm trying to not personalize this too much, but it's grandkids talking to Grandma and Mom and Dad trying to solve new machine hiccups. Normally, I could just go in via iChat and control the other machine and troubleshoot, but I can't do it with Facetime only. My buddy list doesn't see  the other computer even though we are connected on Facetime right now. My name is not highlighted for the other computer. What could have gone so wrong?
    Any help would be appreciated.
