You will need to wait until Apple announces its new products to know what camera it will have.

  • Adobe CS3 install fails on new iMac

I have been unable to install Adobe CS3 Design Standard on my brand new 27" Core 15 iMac. I have followed all the suggestions from Adobe, but only Acrobat installs okay. Can't get Photoshop, Illustrator, or Indesign to install. On the Adobe forums someone told me that CS3 is not compatible with Snow Leopard. However another post quotes Adobe claiming that it is compatible. I am wondering perhaps if it is the installer that doesn't work with Snow Leopard. Is it possible to boot up this new iMac with Leopard, installed on an external drive? If so, perhaps I could then install CS3 on the internal drive and then re-boot to Snow Leopard and all would be well?

The new iMac will not run an earlier OS. Besides, even if it could, Adobe can be very fussy about allowing you to move things from one drive to another. It might see it as an unauthorized installation on a second computer. CS2 runs on mine, but don't know about 3.

Not sure, but you might have to first de-authorize it on the Leopard to get it to install on the Snow. There is a "transfer" option somewhere.

  • Every disc-based installed fails. New iMac. What's the culprit?

I have a relatively new 27" iMac. Received it in July 2011. Since the beginning, I've been having problems and AppleCare/Geniuses still haven't figured it out. I figured I would go to the community to get some thoughts.
My computer has an i7 and 16GB of Crucial RAM. Also a 256gb SSD. Running OSX 10.6.8.
Any time I use a CD or DVD software disc, it fails. This occurs with iWork, Adobe Creative Suite, even OSX itself. The first time I had this problem AppleCare walked me through reinstalling OSX. It failed and bricked my machine. I had to take it into the Apple Store. A Genius loaded a fresh image and I was back up and running. These images always work fine, that is
Since then, Apple has replced my optical drive and my SSD. Neither fixed the issue. Now, Apple says the likely culprit is my aftermarket RAM. I guess a test was done to isolate the issue. I didn't see this test, but a Genius told me he took out my 16GB and replaced it with 2GB of factory Apple RAM, and iWork installed fine on the DVD.
Since then, I've tested the RAM using Memtest. I ran it for about 24 hours straight, and got 0 errors. In the past, I've run some newer games like Team Fortress 2 with no issues. Nevertheless, Crucial agreed to RMA it. Hopefully, the problem will go away with the new RAM, but I have a sneaking suspicion it won't.
I should point out that all installers that are HDD/SSD based - OSX images, iWork images (both of these from the Apple store), Chrome, Filezilla, Steam, various games like TF2, software updates, other downloads, etc - work fine. No problems whatsoever.
    So what's the culprit?
Have you ever had an issue like this?
Could the DIMM slots be bad, rather than the ram? Something with the logic board?

There have been a few threads on here - one very long one - about problems with iMacs installed with 16gb RAM. The normal problem though is random shutdowns, not the problem you describe.
It seems that iMacs can be very fussy about the make of RAM that is installed even though it meets the specs. I wonder whether the suggestion of suspect RAM may be on target.
The short-term 'fix' seems to be to drop down to 12gb, with the long-term fix being to exchange the RAM for Samsung or Hynix.
Maybe worth a try running with 12gb and trying to install something from disk to see if it makes a difference.
If I can find the long thread I'll re-post with a link.

  • Time machine fails on new iMac

I upgraded to a new 21.5" iMac from a g5 iMac.  I transferred my files and have two external hard drives one with photos and one for time
(all worked great on the g5). Main programs in use on the g5 is lightroom and iTunes for the iPhone and iPad.    I have been unable to get time machine to work with my files installed. Both the iMac and backup drive have been replaced with no results. When ihave a clean system with my files I have been able to use time machine for two days before it failed at best.
Every time time machine fails my system starts to act strange and I am forced to do a wipe and reinstall. Have done a complete wipe and install on the iMac and reformatted the new external drive (have left the photo drive off as I got a failure with out that drive connected).  I have not installed any of my files and so far time machine works.  I suspect some sort of corrupt file. Any suggestions on the next steps? I plan an waiting a few more days on the backups just to be sure they work without my files or programs installed.

    Wire fox terrier wrote:
Is there any software that can detect corrupt files? Disk utilities says all drives are fine.
    Not really.
Disk Utility (and other similar apps) check the File System on the disk (the various directories, catalogs, etc., for completeness and consistency, not the internal layout of each file.
Since different kinds of files have different data layouts, and no central registry of the rules,  there's no realistic way to check all the possibilities.
Unlike most backup apps, Time Machine does index them, however, and in the process sometimes finds problems.  If there's a serious problem, it normally sends a message naming the file, then fails, so you can exclude the file from being backed-up, fix it, or delete it.
Considering the symptoms you're seeing, it's likely either an intermittent hardware problem, or something you dragged from your G5 was already damaged, or damaged in the process, or came from a different OS (like Windoze) and didn't get translated properly.   Since you get no messages, it's going to be very tedious to narrow it down.
    From your previous post:
Both a capture program from apple tech and send to apple via about this Mac (system profiler) would not work.
Do you mean they wouldn't run properly, or you sent them to Apple and they either haven't responded or said they couldn't find anything?

  • Facetime Failing on new Touch

My wife and I have iphone 4's. We just bought the new Touch for my daughter. We've updated our phones to 4.1. The facetime will ring to the phones but it fails when it tries to connect. Anyone know what's going on here? Anyone successfully making facetime calls with the touch?

  • How do I get messages to go back to an AIM account? It's only seeing the iPad's Facetime email address and not seeing the old AIM account name that is on my desktop. I am using my iMac using iChat to talk to a newer iMac that doesn't have iChat.

How do I get messages to go back to an AIM account? It's only seeing the iPad's Facetime email address and not seeing the old AIM account name that is on my desktop. I am using my iMac using iChat to talk to a newer iMac that doesn't have iChat. We had this working using Messages and Facetime (on the new machine) talking to my existing iChat account. One day last week, when Facetime rang, my kids answered on the iPad. Dang! Now it's all fouled up! The new iMac won't see my AIM account name and shows that I'm offline, because the iPad is off. We were able to call using "most recent call" in Facetime, but now I can't go and control that new iMac remotely to help with some email concerns the user is having. I'm trying to not personalize this too much, but it's grandkids talking to Grandma and Mom and Dad trying to solve new machine hiccups. Normally, I could just go in via iChat and control the other machine and troubleshoot, but I can't do it with Facetime only. My buddy list doesn't see  the other computer even though we are connected on Facetime right now. My name is not highlighted for the other computer. What could have gone so wrong?
    Any help would be appreciated.

A PC can have more issues connecting than a Mac.
But it really should not matter.. so just try it in situ.. press and hold the reset.. once it starts up, it will return to default IP, 10.0.1.1 the PC should then be able to find it via the airport utility.
If not drag it over to the Mac and plug in there by ethernet.. or since it is a laptop, really should not be that difficult to drag the Laptop and plug it into the TC.
Important thing is to get access to the TC.
The Mac if it is running lion, then you MUST download and install 5.6 airport utility to do anything useful.

Photoshop CS6 keeps crashing. I am using a brand new IMAC, I have 16GB RAM recently updated as it was running slow with 8GB and lots of hardrive space. When it crashes, i lose all my presents and it changes my preferences, it also fails to save or produce a recovered file despite settings asking it to do so every 5 mins now. When i try to report the problem, it says it has found an issue and gives me a link to a solution....but wont let me click on the link.... PLEASE HELP! It's killing my productivity.

If the crash started right after you added RAM, it could be a bad Ram dimm. You can try this - change the amount of RAM in Photoshop to 4G, this should stop Photoshop from using the higher ram. If it doesn't crash, it's probably the ram. Or run a diagnostic app. You don't say when it crashes, what you're doing when it crashes - it there a pattern? Did it ever work on this computer? Did it work on your previous computer? Without a lot of data, it could be related to the new computer... What OS version? Did you recently update it? Have you updated Photoshop to the most recent update?
Do you have any plug-ins loaded? Try restarting Photoshop, and immediately press & hold the shfit key to turn off plug-ins.

  • FaceTime fails to connect snow leopard imac

The setup is a home network with ethernet to an up-to-date snow leopard iMac and the WiFi on the same subnet, running off of a Linksys wft54g with the latest firmware. uPnP is enabled on the router.
From a Macbook Air with Lion on a network at work, I can call and receive FaceTime calls to the iPhone on the home WiFi network.
However, FaceTime rings but fails to connect on the iMac.
So, Facetime to/from iPhone is going through the same home router over the same network using the same DNS, etc.. and it works.
But Facetime to/from the iMac does not. I've tried with the firewall on/off on the iMac as well as google DNS, etc., with no luck.
If the Lion MBA is on the same network, all works fine.
Any ideas? What is different about Facetime btw iPhone and snow leopard iMac that causes this difference?
    Much appreciated.

  • Microsoft Office 2011 fails to work on new iMac

I received my new iMac in mid December, and I used the Migration Assistant to move everything. Unsurprisingly, MS Office failed to work. I paid MS another $12 so I could download a new copy of MS Office 2011 and tried installing it. Installation succeeded, but every time I opened a Word or Excel file, it crashed.
I deleted Office from both iMacs, old and new, including all of the MS files hidden everywhere. Reinstalled but the same thing happens. Deleted everything, including the downloaded disk image, downloaded it again, and reinstalled.
    Same result--crash!
I have no idea what to try next. My wife is beginning to doubt my technical expertise. I've tried to mollify her with OpenOffice and Pages, but she is getting frustrated and angry.
Any ideas on what to try? Please save my marriage!

    Your original post states:
I deleted Office from both iMacs, old and new, including all of the MS files hidden everywhere.
I have no idea what files you have deleted, and what files have been left behind, you have no guarantee that you deleted every single file from the thousands of files Office installs, a single preference file left on your machine is enough to cause Office to fail.
As you  made a serious  error in using Migration to use Office on a new machine, I did not take as absolute certainty you  made a proper and complete uninstall of Office.
    If you need Office to work quickly, your option now is to clean install your Mac;
    back up your work files
erase the hard drivereinstall the operating system
    install Office correctly
You will be up and running in 2 hours.

Purchased a new iMac - installed CS5 CD - message - Installer failed to initialise....

You need to copy all the installer disc to the desktop, Folder by folder. for example, Copy the contents of Payloads folder on Disc 2 to payloads folder of Disc 1, Extension to extensions, etc
Then you will see the setup.app file on the Folder that you created on the desktop.
    Run that and check.
