Facing issues in standby database

standby database is in sync but when we say archive log list "Current log sequence " and "Oldest online log sequence" are not geting updated
even though archives are getting applied.
Solution :- We can create new standby controlfile in order to get those archive sync .
Question :- why we are still receiving alert log errors when the standby database is running in Max performance? We have these standby files from so many days but  recently we are able to see these errors
Any help regarding this is much appreciate.

Hello;
I think I would try to clear the log :
Example
ALTER DATABASE CLEAR LOGFILE GROUP 3;
Do this for any groups you are having this issue with.

  • Info on licensing issues of standby databases/Oracle Data Guard

    Hi All,
    Could anyone possibly give me some information on licensing issues of standby databases/Oracle Data Guard? Links to some electronic articles or journals might be useful. I am unable to find the appropriate info and need this quite urgently for my dissertation asap as my deadline is this approaching.
    Thanks in advance

    Paul Drake posted a reply to a similar question on the Oracle-L mailing list that pointed out that the License Agreement
    http://oraclestore.oracle.com/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpSctDspRte.jsp?media=os_local_license_agreement&section=11365&minisite=10021&respid=22372&grp=STORE&language=US
    states, in part,
    "Failover: Your license for the following programs, Oracle Database (Enterprise Edition, Standard Edition or Standard Edition One) and Oracle Internet Application Server (Enterprise Edition, Standard Edition, Standard Edition One or Java Edition) includes the right to run the licensed program(s) on an unlicensed spare computer in a failover environment for up to a total of ten separate days in any given calendar year. Any use beyond the right granted in the previous sentence must be licensed separately and the same license metric must be used when licensing the program(s)."
    which seems to open a bit of wiggle room depending on how the term "run" is defined. This is probably also an area where your Oracle sales rep may have a little more flexibility to negotiate

  • Archive apply issue for standby database in Standard Edition.

    We have setup standby database in Oracle standard edition. the archive log cannot be send by oracle automatically. So we manually send the archive over. But do not see the database apply the archive log file. What could be wrong and where should we check on it?
    We also used following when finishing the standby DB after running "recover standby database;" for a few archive log file:
    alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session;
    ======================================================================================
    This is the status:
    SQL> select OPEN_MODE, SWITCHOVER# ,REMOTE_ARCHIVE ,ARCHIVELOG_CHANGE#,SWITCHOVER_STATUS, DATABASE_ROLE from v$database;
    OPEN_MODE SWITCHOVER# REMOTE_A ARCHIVELOG_CHANGE# SWITCHOVER_STATUS DATABASE_ROLE
    MOUNTED 495550636 ENABLED 1.2201E+13 SESSIONS ACTIVE PHYSICAL STANDBY

    The DB version is 10.2.0.5
    I can do this to apply at standby DB:
    SQL> set autorecovery on
    SQL> recover standby database;
    Then I tried to run this to leave the session:
    alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session;
    Do not seen any apply.

    Hello;
    Script has to be run from auxiliary.
    Great details, but what I don't see is how you connect in RMAN.
    Example
    Start RMAN
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target=sys/@recover2 auxiliary=sys/@reclone
    Recovery Manager: Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production on Wed Feb 22 14:50:31 2012
    Copyright (c) 1982, 2009, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved.
    connected to target database: RECOVER2 (DBID=3806912436)
    connected to auxiliary database: RECLONE (not mounted)Nothing in your tnsnames or listener jumps out as wrong. I copied them into my text editor and compared against my working ones.
    Generally for active duplication I start the future standby on a pfile NOMOUNT.
    Auxiliary Instance Initialization Parameters Needed :
    DB_NAME
    CONTROL_FILES
    DB_BLOCK_SIZE
    ( add extra parameters like DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT and LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT instead of using the SET command - clean up standby spfile right after duplication )
    Then start RMAN and finally run a single line duplication command.
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target=sys/@primary auxiliary=sys/@standby

    Hi, the value of db_recovery_file_dest parameter is invalid,set this properly value(path) for this parameter and try again.

  • Data Guard - MRP stuck issues on a physical standby database

    Hi,
    Oracle 11.2.0.3 DG running. When i do a switchover the physical standby database has error with following error
    ARC0: LGWR is actively archiving destination LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2
    ARCH: Archival stopped, error occurred. Will continue retrying
    ORACLE Instance <primaryDB> - Archival Error
    On standby DB
    SQL>select process, thread#, sequence#, status from v$managed_standby where process='MRP0';
    PROCESS THREAD# SEQUENCE# STATUS
    MRP0 1 548 APPLYING_LOG
    So according to Oracle support link i executed following
    SQL>recover managed standby database cancel;
    SQL>recover automatic standby database;
    The above seems to resolve the issue. What is causing is this?

    Hello again;
    Those both look perfect. I combed through my notes and found nothing like this for your version.
    Yes, I would open an SR since it appears you have done everything correct.
    ORA-600 [3020] "Stuck Recovery" [ID 30866.1]
    The "Known Bugs" section of the above has a few 11.2.0.3 entries.
    Generally the MRP gets stuck because data Guard thinks there's a GAP, you run out of room in the FRA on the Standby, or redo logs are too small and the system is switching very fast.
    Best Regards
    mseberg
    Later
    Never asked you but this "log_archive_max_processes" can be set as high as 30.

  • Next log sequence to archive in Standby Database (RAC Dataguard Issue)

    Hi All,
    I just had implemented Data Guard in our server. My primary Database is RAC configured, but it is only single node. The other Instance was removed and converted it to Developement Instance. For the reason I kept the primary as RAC is when I will implement dataguard, my Primary Database is RAC with 7 nodes.
    The first test is successful, and I was able to "switchover" from my primary to standby. I failed in the 'FAILOVER" test.
    I restore my primary server and redo the setup.
    BTW, my standby DB is physical standby.
    When I try to switchover again and issue archive log list, below is my output.
    SQL> archive log list;
    Database log mode Archive Mode
    Automatic archival Enabled
    Archive destination USE_DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST
    Oldest online log sequence 38
    *Next log sequence to archive 0*
    Current log sequence 38
    SQL> select open_mode, database_role from v$database;
    OPEN_MODE DATABASE_ROLE
    MOUNTED PHYSICAL STANDBY
    ===============================================
    SQL> archive log list;
    Database log mode Archive Mode
    Automatic archival Enabled
    Archive destination USE_DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST
    Oldest online log sequence 38
    *Next log sequence to archive 38*
    Current log sequence 38
    SQL> select open_mode, database_role from v$database;
    OPEN_MODE DATABASE_ROLE
    READ WRITE PRIMARY
    In my first attempt to switchover before I failed in "FAILOVER" test, I also issue +archive log list+ in both primary and standby database, and if I remember it right, next log sequence on both should be identical. Am I right on this?
    Thanks in Advance.
    Jay A

    Or Am i just overthinking on this?
    Is dataguard only looking for the current and oldest log sequence?

  • StandBy database Create/Export Issue

    We have database ABC and standby database ABCSTD and they are working properly. (Archives are properly applied), They were created from the database ABC_OLD.
    Issue is that the ABC_OLD database has some more changes and users continued to work on that. We didnt switch the users to the ABC. And now the ABC database has become obsolete. its around one month old database.
    I just want to know. Do I need to recreate the ABC database and Standby again from ABC_OLD cold backup Or Can I take full Database Export froom ABC_OLD and Import it on the the ABC Live.
    Are there any other ways.??

    Rakesh Soni.

  • Standby database sync issue

    Hi,
    We get standby database is behind 6 hrs message some times. We check in production by issuing this.
    SQL> select thread#,max(sequence#) from v$archived_log group by thread#;
    THREAD# MAX(SEQUENCE#)
    2 177416
    1 169771
    in Standby
    SQL> select thread#,max(sequence#) from v$archived_log group by thread#;
    THREAD# MAX(SEQUENCE#)
    1 169771
    2 177416
    Does this mean that both are in sync?

    Viacheslav Ostapenko wrote:
    Unfortunately, v$archived_log doesn't provide actual information - sometimes very strange behaviour when according to this view gap increases without any reason and then suddenly it goes in sync with primary - a lot of false triggering were when we used this view for monitoring.I asked to check in both primary & standby .... not only in primary

  • Datafile issues in manual standby database

    Hi all,
    oracle - 10gR2
    OS - RHEL 2.6
    We have primary and standby database setup using manual methods('rsync') to send archive logs from primary to standby database and they are applied there. Today I have created a new datafile in primary and seen that the same is not replicated in standby( i was not aware of the functionality of this kind of setup) later I have seen that "standby_file_management parameter is set to MANUAL".
    I have seen the following message in standby alert log(not disabled the archive log application script in satndby),
    "Media Recovery Log /u01/app/oracle/oradata/bmprod/archivelog/1_1761_703415336.arc
    File #6 added to control file as 'UNNAMED00006' because
    the parameter STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT is set to MANUAL
    The file should be manually created to continue.
    Some recovered datafiles maybe left media fuzzy
    Media recovery may continue but open resetlogs may fail"
    Later I have copied the required file from primary to standby database(now I have disabled the archive log application script in standby), and renamed the datafile 'UNNAMED00006' to 'desired one' and restarted the archive log application script. I have seen the following messages,
    "ORA-01547: warning: RECOVER succeeded but OPEN RESETLOGS would get error below
    ORA-01194: file 6 needs more recovery to be consistent
    ORA-01110: data file 6: '/u02/app/oracle/oradata/bmprod/BMTEST.dbf'"
    Now I am unable to figure out what I should do to come out of this situation. Atleast tell me this condition is not worse than I thought(I think that the standby database should be recreated).
    Any help is appreciated.......
    regards

    Hi,
    when you set the standby_file_management parameter as mannual then , if you create any datafile or adding it to the tablespace then you should mannaully run the command on the standby side , if its auto then auto matically it will create the file over in the respective locationa and with the name what you have used to create the datafile on the primary side,
    as the parameter value is mannual ypu need to create the datafile over the standby side and then performt the recovery,

  • Issue on physical standby database

    Hi
    I've a problem on standby database.
    I recently added a datafile on primary database, then I scp'ed the data file to physical standby database.On physical standby database I tried performing recovery.
    I get following message in my alert log
    WARNING! Recovering data file 88 from a fuzzy file. If not the current file
    it might be an online backup taken without entering the begin backup command.
    ORA-279 signalled during: ALTER DATABASE RECOVER standby database ...
    how can I fix this now.
    We keep physical standby database 2 day behind, and apply logs manually.
    Physical standby database is maintained manually.
    Could someone help me in getting out of this problem.

    Versus keeping it in manual mode, you can specify a time "delay" for the application of the logs:
    From http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/log_apply.htm#i1022811
    6.2.2 Specifying a Time Delay for the Application of Archived Redo Log Files
    In some cases, you may want to create a time lag between the time when redo data is received from the primary site and when it is applied to the standby database. You can specify a time interval (in minutes) to protect against the application of corrupted or erroneous data to the standby database. When you set a DELAY interval, it does not delay the transport of the redo data to the standby database. Instead, the time lag you specify begins when the redo data is completely archived at the standby destination.
    Note:
    If you define a delay for a destination that has real-time apply enabled, the delay is ignored.
    Specifying a Time Delay
    You can set a time delay on primary and standby databases using the DELAY=minutes attribute of the LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n initialization parameter to delay applying archived redo log files to the standby database. By default, there is no time delay. If you specify the DELAY attribute without specifying a value, then the default delay interval is 30 minutes.
    Canceling a Time Delay
    You can cancel a specified delay interval as follows:
    For physical standby databases, use the NODELAY keyword of the RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE clause:
    SQL> ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE NODELAY;
    For logical standby databases, specify the following SQL statement:
    SQL> ALTER DATABASE START LOGICAL STANDBY APPLY NODELAY;
    These commands result in log apply services immediately beginning to apply archived redo log files to the standby database, before the time interval expires. Also, see:
    Section 12.8, "Using a Physical Standby Database with a Time Lag"
    Oracle Database SQL Reference for the DELAY attribute of the ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE statement

    HI CKPT,
    Thanks for the reply. All the Archives from primary are transferred to the standby by RFS. Also i tried to register the log files manually even but it says already registered. They are no errors in the primary instance alert log file. Please find the log
