Facing long retrieval time to execute HFR for 11.1.2 system

Hi,
I am executing one HFR from ASO cube, retrieval time for report was around 8 min when MAXFORMULACACHESIZE XXX XXX 4098KB
And now i am facing retrieval time for more than 55 min. with no output.
My report structure is like till 12 rows report is extracting data from the cube and then for other set of around 40 rows report is caclulating on the basis of first 12 rows.
Initial 12 rows also have formula operated account members from ASO cube.
Beside this columnar calculation are also executing for simple calculation of addidtion and variance calculations.
Pls suggest me is there any specific CFG setting is required for report execution or suggest me any performance optimization techninque for HFR.
Thanks

Thanks.  I'll give that some thought as a workaround.
What I'm trying to determine is whether running an HFM report is supposed to take longer on the first opening of the report and subsequent reports open faster due to caching.  Other reports can be any report in the HFM application.  The subsequent report doesn't have to be the one just opened.
The first HFM report takes about 15 seconds to reach the prompt which seems long to me since a Planning report consistenly takes 3 seconds to reach the prompt.  In our 9.3.3 system, HFM takes consistently takes about 3-5 seconds to reach a prompt.  Same for Planning.
I'm suspicious of the CPU clock speed of our HFM server in the ver 11 environment.  The clock speed in is 2GHz and the clock speed in our prior environment is 3GHz.
I am unsure if the CPU's GHz on our HFM server is a contributing factor in this or if this is just how it works in 11.1.2.2.

  • Problems with Dynasight - long retrieve times

Hi,we use dynasight tool to retrieve the data. Although essbase gives the data quite fast, dynasight takes a long time to show data. The server has up to 2 Gb of virtual memory and essbase take no more than 600Mb. Do you know which could be the problem? Thanks a lot

Hello,in principle, the performance of dynaSight should be more or less identical to the performance you get from an equivalent query from within the Excel Add-In for example. Therefore, the performance problem is very likely due to the specific design of the dynaSight documents/screens.Please check the following:- hierarchy objects configuration:is 'request other levels when expanded' used for the vertical and horizontal hierarchy objects? Depending on the use and type of query this feature may speed up performance significantly.- are you using individual selections? If yes: are you using more than 99 members in an individual member selection (this is the limit on the Essbase Side: if you exceed that limit, dynaSight will query the complete hierarchy and filter out the selected members)- optimize the screens by for example consolidating multiple queries / database calls into one query / database call.=> these are just a few suggestions to look into. In general, I would strongly suggest to contact [email protected] and provide them with some application components and trace and log files so the design issues can be analysed and identified more specifically.Best RegardsAndreas [email protected] of Competence Center

  • Bug in sqlserver 2014 long processing time in query optimizer for complex query. With compatibility set to 2012, everything is quick.

Believe the bug to be related to the new cardinality estimator. In my case joining 7 tables it took 4 seconds to see the query execution plan, with 8 tables it took 1 minute and with 9 tables 15
minutes! the actual processing of the query plan was sub second. (each table has only two records...)
It looks as if there is a workload in the cardinality estimator that escalates as the number of tables and join columns increases.
We have a number of these queries in our application and the bug is a showstopper for our customers. They will have to set compatibility level to 110 (sqlserver 2012) to run the app. Then they should
    probably not upgrade from 2012...
Is this a known bug? What is the bug number? How can I follow the bug to see when it is fixed?
Here is my testcase: (first building tables and data, and then the query with some comments. A version spending 15 minutes in the optimizer, takes 0 seconds to complete with the hint "option (QUERYTRACEON 9481) ".  we can't use this
hint in the application because no dba will allow an application like ours to run as sysadmin...
    SCRIPT:
-- Example has one table containing 25 rows. another containing 2 rows.
-- The one with two rows is joined in several times.
-- In the original query each of these joins were to separate tables.
-- I use this simplification because it makes it easier to build the testcase.

Reading "What's new in Sql Server 2014" (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb510411.aspx#CE). I see that  it says:
    New Design for Cardinality Estimation
The cardinality estimation logic, called the cardinality estimator, is re-designed in SQL Server 2014 to improve the quality of query plans, and therefore to improve query performance. The new cardinality estimator incorporates assumptions and algorithms
that work well on modern OLTP and data warehousing workloads. It is based on in-depth cardinality estimation research on modern workloads, and our learnings over the past 15 years of improving the SQL Server cardinality estimator. Feedback from customers shows
that while most queries will benefit from the change or remain unchanged, a small number might show regressions compared to the previous cardinality estimator. For performance tuning and testing recommendations, seeCardinality
    Estimation (SQL Server).
I states that a "small number of queries might show regressions". To mee the regression is a showstopper and seems to have to do with complexity. I found one query reported by Juha Salo (bug 893758) that possibly could have to do with the same thing.
It is a query with many joins. Simplifying the query by removing one of the joins, makes it work fine. The query documented in his report does not need any setup as it is a query on system tables as sys.indexes and sys.index_columns.
    I quote:
There is a huge difference in performance for the following query between compatibility level 120 and the lower levels:
    dbcc dropcleanbuffers
    SELECT i.NAME
    FROM sys.indexes i
    INNER JOIN sys.index_columns k ON i.object_id = k.object_id
    AND i.index_id = k.index_id
    INNER JOIN sys.objects o ON i.object_id = o.object_id
    AND k.object_id = o.object_id
    INNER JOIN sys.index_columns k1 ON i.object_id = k1.object_id
    AND i.index_id = k1.index_id
    AND k1.key_ordinal = 1
    INNER JOIN sys.index_columns k2 ON i.object_id = k2.object_id
    AND i.index_id = k2.index_id
    AND k2.key_ordinal = 2
    INNER JOIN sys.index_columns k3 ON i.object_id = k3.object_id
    AND i.index_id = k3.index_id
    AND k3.key_ordinal = 3
    INNER JOIN sys.index_columns k4 ON i.object_id = k4.object_id
    AND i.index_id = k4.index_id
    AND k4.key_ordinal = 4
    INNER JOIN sys.index_columns k5 ON i.object_id = k5.object_id
    AND i.index_id = k5.index_id
    AND k5.key_ordinal = 5
    INNER JOIN sys.index_columns k6 ON i.object_id = k6.object_id
    AND i.index_id = k6.index_id
    AND k6.key_ordinal = 6
    INNER JOIN sys.index_columns k7 ON i.object_id = k7.object_id
    AND i.index_id = k7.index_id
    AND k7.key_ordinal = 7
    INNER JOIN sys.columns c1 ON o.object_id = c1.object_id
    AND k1.column_id = c1.column_id
    INNER JOIN sys.columns c2 ON o.object_id = c2.object_id
    AND k2.column_id = c2.column_id
    INNER JOIN sys.columns c3 ON o.object_id = c3.object_id
    AND k3.column_id = c3.column_id
    INNER JOIN sys.columns c4 ON o.object_id = c4.object_id
    AND k4.column_id = c4.column_id

    AND k7.column_id = c7.column_id
Can be run in any database. In our case we have a legacy database with almost 10 000 (ten thousand) tables. In that kind of database the query just freezes fully utilizing a single cpu core.
If compatibility level is switched to 110 then query performs as it should.

  • Retrieving time for default Btree and time sorted Btree

    Hi all,
I am working on FreeBsd and Berkeley DB 4.5.20
I have 2 kind of Btree databases and I want to measure the time for sequentially retrieving of all records.
    1. Btrees with fixed record size of 128 Byte
    2. Btrees with variable record size of around 630KB
when I sort the order of the Db's by time (time is the key in my DB's) the retrieving time is much shorter, so i have a higher performance.
but when I see the statistics structures:
for the 1. group after sorting by time the internal page fill factor and leaf pages fill factor are like 94% or 98% and overflow ff is 0%. so I an understand that this result in a higher performance.
and i have a shorter retrieving time than before sorting by time.
but for the 2. group that means for variable large record sizes I have shorter retrieving time (higher performance) before sorting by time but lower leaf and internal page fillfactor. and after sorting higher leaf and internal page ff but longer retrieving time. and the overflow ff is before and after sorting 99%.
so I am confuse , because I thought the higher leaf and internal page ff the higher performance,
but this is exactly the opposite for large variable record sizes. is that because of the high overflow page ff?
I would appreciate if some could explain it to me.
    Regards
    soudi

Why it happened? How to config system let one-time vendor be the conditon's vendor ?
    Thanks .

    dear wayne,
what is your account group for the vendor if OTA (one time account ) is ticked for that account, the system will not allow you to give the condition type FRA1.

I have not been able to get on the internet with my PC using Time Capsule as my wireless router. I have an msn e-mail address and have not been able to get my e-mail on the MacPro using my msn e-mail address. Is there a compatibility issue that I am seeing .will someone HELP me with this problem because it is driving me INSANE!!!!!!!!!

  • F4 on Variable Screen for a DataStore Object Produces Long Run Time

We experiencing a long run time in returning values when we select F4 for the Variable 0COMP_CODE when we process query for a DataStore.  Before our upgrade to NW04S, we did not experience this issue.  As background, the DataStore (ODS) has not changed, the variable has not changed, and the query has not changed.
0COMP_CODE has the following configuration in RSD1:
Query Def. Filter Value Selection – Values in Master Data Table
Query Execution Filter Val. Selectn – Only Posted Values for Navigation.
These settings are exactly like this in our BW 3.5 system.
In my review of the differences, I found that in BW 3.5, the runtime is short because the selection that is returned is the Company Codes in the Master Data table, but in NW04S, the selection that is returned is the Company Codes within the ODS.
Has anyone experienced this before and if so what was your resolution?
    Thanks!

<b>Query Execution Filter Val. Selection</b> should help you a lot in improving performance for F4.
Three options are available for the <b>Query Execution Filter Val. Selection</b> field on the BEx tab that directly affect F4 searches.
<b>The Only Posted Values for Navigation</b> setting limits an F4 search to the values related to the query’s navigation state. It is the recommended setting if you’re working with less savvy BW end users who may have trouble identifying applicable values or are confused when faced with long lists of characteristics. This setting yields the <b>slowest performance</b> in terms of the F4 search.
<b>Only Values in InfoProvider</b> is a better option if you need a list of characteristic values for a variable that is limited to the transactional records in the InfoProvider that a query is being executed against. This setting is ideal for restricting users to the appropriate source when data is available in different InfoProviders with different values. For example, let’s say you have an InfoCube with billing data for Europe and another for the US. Each sales office will have different values, so by using this setting a variable can be restricted to the correct values.
<b>The Values in Master Data Table</b> setting allows users to list all possible characteristic values when they run F4. Recommend that you use it when you have transactional records for almost all the values across InfoProviders and users are aware of the relevance of the values for the navigation state.
While the Values in Master Data Table setting is the <b>fastest F4</b> search setting, you need to be aware of a couple of situations when using it. Users with authorization restrictions may have an F4 list returned with all the values from the master data table, but a subsequent query may not report the result. Instead it will generate an error message informing the user of the authorization restriction. Likewise, users may select values from the master data table that are not valid for the current query due to other restrictions. There may not be any records for an InfoObject in its underlying InfoProvider designed for a query, so the system returns a “no applicable data found” message.

  • Taking long time on First login for some users

    Dears,
We are facing very strange issue in our ECC6 server.
For some users when they login put userid and password it takes 15-20 min to login and sometimes give time out.
but after first login it works fine.
If I remove roles from those user and assign them SAP_ALL or one or two roles, they also work fine.
One more thing some other users having same authorization are working fine.
One solution of this issue I found to delete the user having problem and copy it with user who is working fine.
But not getting root cause of the issue and permanent solution of the issue.
    Please suggest.
    Shivam

We just experienced the same problem after updating our SP-Stack.
<p>Some users were experiencing a long logon time, and a long time to return to the Session Manager screen.  Changing to the SAP Menu instead of the User Menu cleared the problem for those users, but they no longer had quick access to transactions that were in the User Menu, and not in the Favourites.
<p>Note 203617 was not the answer for our problem, but it did point us in the right direction.
<p>After upgrading our SP Stack last Friday, it appeared that some of the roles in the Customer Namespace (ie, zRoleName001) had inherited a copy of the Logistics or Accounting SAP menu trees.  This meant that users with those roles ended up with a User Menu which contained the 10 or so transactions that are assigned to their roles, and additionally,  the entire Logistics or Accounting Tree which contain 35,000+ items.  In transaction SM66, users who are waiting for their logon to complete are shown doing a sequential read of table AGR_HIERT.
<p>To correct this, I removed the Logistics and Accounting menu trees as appropriate from the User menu of those roles in PFCG.  Users that use the User Menu can now logon normally.
<p>This is what I did to troubleshoot:
<p>* Pick one user that is experiencing long login times, and have them change to the SAP Menu instead of the User Menu.  If their logon time improves, open transaction SE38, and run the program EASY_ACCESS_NUMBER_OF_NODES.
<p>* Specify the user's account and click on Execute.
<p>* If the program times out, chances are that they have an enormous number of items in their User Menu - continue with the next step.
<p>* If the program finishes, look at the number of Menu Nodes for that user - Note 203617 says that a User Menu with 1000 or more items is considered "large" and will degrade logon performace as the User Menu buffer is constantly swapping in and out.
<p>* Note each of their each of the user's roles from SU01, then check the Menu tab for each of those roles in PFCG to see if any roles are adding large sections of the SAP menu.
<p>* If necessary, maintain the Role's Menu items in DEV, and transport to TEST, then Production.  BE CAREFUL to ensure that the Users list is not modified when transporting the changes into Production, or the Role will become de-assigned from your Production users, and your users will hate you when they become unauthorised to open transactions.
<p>* Once the User Menu is back to normal, the user can change back to the User Menu and everyone should be able to logon normally.
    <p>Hope this helps.

    Hi,
The plan between 9i and 10g is pretty the same but the amount of data fetched has considerably increased. I guess the query was performing slow even in 9i.
The AR_CASH_RECEIPT_HISTORY_ALL is presently having 332000 rows in 10g where as it was 17532 in 9i.
AR_CASH_RECEIPT_HISTORY_N2 is now having 332,000 rows in 10g where as in 9i it had 1,740
    Try creating some indexes on

  • Long execution times for TestStand conditional statements

I have two test stations – one here, one at the factory in China that has been operating for about a year. The test program uses TestStand 3.1 and calls primarily dll's developed using CVI. Up until a couple months ago, both test stations performed in a similar manner, then the computer at the factory died and was replaced with a new, faster computer. Now the same test sequence at the factory take three times as long to execute (30 min at the facotry, 10min here).
I have recoded the execution time at various point during the execution, and have found that the extra times seems to be occurring during the evaluation of conditional statements in TestStand (i.e. for loops, if statements, case statements). For example, one particular ‘for’ evaluation takes 30 ms on the test station here, but takes 400 ms at the test station at the factory (note: this is just the evaluation of the for condition, not the execution of the steps contained within the for loop).
The actual dll calls seem to be slightly faster with the new computer.
Also the ‘Module Times’ reported don’t seem to match the actual time for the module for the computer at the factory. For example, for the following piece of TestStand code:
    Label1
    Subsequence Call
    Label2
I record the execution time to the report text in both Label1 and Label2. Subtracting one from the other gives me about 18 seconds. However the ‘Module Time’ recorded for ‘Subsequence Call’ is only 3.43 seconds.
Any body have any ideas why the long execution time with the new computer? I always setup the computers in exactly the same way, but maybe there is a TestStand setting somewhere that I have missed? Keep in mind, both test stations are running exactly the same revision of code.

Got some more results from the factory this morning:
    1) Task Manager shows that the TestExec.exe is the only thing using CPU to any significant degree. Also CPU Usage History show that the CPU Usage never reaches 100%.
    2) I sent a new test program that will log test execution time in more places. Longer execution times are seen in nearly every area of the program, but one area where this is very dramatic is the time taken to return from one particular subsequence call. In this subsequence I log the time just before the <End Group> at then end of Main. There is nothing in Cleanup. I then log the time immediately after returning from this sequence. On the test system I have here this takes approximately 160 ms. On the test system at the factory this takes approximately 14.5 seconds! The program seems to be hanging here for some reason. Every time this function is called the same thing happens and for the same amount of time (and this function is called about 40 times in the test program, so this is kill me).

  • Rank Function taking a long time to execute in SAP HANA

    Hi All,
I have a couple of reports with rank function which is timing out/ or taking a really long time to execute, Is there any way to get the result in less time when rank functions are involved?
the following is a sample of how the Query looks,
    SQL 1:
    select      a.column1,
                    b.column1,
                    rank () over(partition by a.column1 order by sum(b.column2) asc)
    from         "_SYS_BIC"."Analyticview1"         b
                    join          "Table1"            a
                      on          (a.column2 = b.column3)
    group by  a.column1,
    b.column1;
    SQL 2:
    select    a.column1,
                    b.column1,
rank () over( order by min(b.column1) asc) WJXBFS1
    from         "_SYS_BIC"."Analytic view2"         b
                    cross join                "Table 2"               a
    where      (a.column2  like '%a%'
    and b.column1  between 100 and 200)
    group by  a.column1,
                    b.column1
when I visualize the execution plan, the rank function is the one taking up a longer time frame. so I executed the same SQL without the rank() or partition or order by(only with Sum() in SQL1 and Min() in SQL 2) even that took a around an hour to get the result.
1.Does anyone have an any idea to make these queries to execute faster?
    2. Does the latency have anything to do with the rank function or could it be size of the result set?
    3. is there any workaround to implement these rank function/partition inside the Analytic view itself? if yes, will this make it give the result faster?
    Thank you for your help!!

    Krishna,
I tried both of them, Graphical and CE function,
It is also taking a long time to execute
Graphical view giving me the following error after 2 hr and 36 minutes
Could not execute 'SELECT ORDER_ID,ITEM_ID,RANK from "_SYS_BIC"."EMMAPERF/ORDER_FACT_HANA_CV" group by ...' in 2:36:23.411 hours .

CE function - I aborted after 40 mins
Do you know the syntax to declare local variable to use in CE function?

i wrote the proxcedure but it takes long time to execute. Please define "long time". How long does it take? What are you expecting it to take?
The INterdata table contains 300 records. But how many records are there in the FILTER table? As this is the one you are driving off this is going to determine the length of time it takes to complete. Also, this solution inserts every row in the INTERDATA table for each row in the FILTER table - in other words, if the FILTER table has twenty rows to start with you are going to end up with 6000 rows in FILTERDETAIL. No wonder it takes a long time. Is that want you want?
Also of course, you are using PL/SQL cursors when you ought to be using set operations. Did you try the solution I posted in Re: Confusion in this  scenario>>>>>>> on this topic?
    Cheers, APC

The above function wil return rows with respect to SUBSCRIBER TYPE (if Not Null then it will return the ACCOUNT KEY and SUBNO else '-99').
But its not returning any rows so all the rows will come as
    SUBNO ACCOUNT_TYP
    21 -99
    22 -99
    23 -99
    24 -99
    25 -99

    Hi LMLobo,
In addition to Sebastian’s answer, you can refer to the document
Server Memory Server Configuration Options to check whether the maximum server memory setting of the SQL Server is changed on the new server. Besides, you can also compare the
network packet size setting of the SQL Server as well as the network connectivity on both servers. Besides, you can refer to the following link to troubleshooting SSIS package performance

  • How to tell how long until TIMER executes?

say I have a timer set to execute every minute,
is there a way to tell how many miliseconds until the timer
    executes again.
for instance If I checked halfway between the TIMER's
execution it should say "30000" (30 seconds intil timer exec again)
I have a timer set to execute every so often and I want to
also have a countdown to let the user know how long until the next
    execution.
    Thanks

    Hi John,
There's nothing built in. (You can file an enhancement
    request at
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
    - maybe send it to both AIR and Flash Player).
But you could probably write your own by updating a counter
when the Timer event does fire. Your look up method could look at
the counter and the current time and figure out the difference
based on the interval set. You could use either the getTimer()
function or the Date.getTime() method for this.
    I hope this helps!

I changed my AppleID a long time ago to an email that I no longer use and I have updates for apps that I can't update because my old email is filled in to where i sign in and it wont let me change it to my new one???

The problem with those two apps is that they are supposed to be in your Apple ID and you didn't set up the Mac properly/completely when you got it.
You might try deleteing them and using OS X Recovery to install them again.
    OS X Recovery -

After that, before you open any iLife apps go to your Mac App Store account, to the Purchased pane and Accept them into your account.
