Faded links in Toc

W7, ID CS6, DW CS6
When I convert an ePub created in ID CS6 to Kindle using Kindlegen the html toc is very faded (light blue), despite being fine in the ePub. I tried reworking the CSS in DW to increase the font weight of the toc entries to bold. This helped a little but the resulting mobi file was still unpleasantly light regardless of the fact that the ePub was now unpleasantly heavy. Do I just have to live with this or am I missing something? An example of the adjusted codes follow.

Hi kamarques and welcome to the forums.
I'm not sure I understand exactly what you are trying to do.
When you link to a book in the TOC, you are actually just
connecting that book to a topic. If you want to link text to that
same topic, you would just select that topic when you hyperlink the
text.
I hope this helps

  • Is there a limit for external links in TOC using RoboHelp 9.2?

    Hi,
This is my first time posting to the Adobe forums. Here is my problem.
I have been maintaining help projects using RoboHelp 9.2 for quite some time now to generate WebHelp. I now have four large projects that are linked through a URL in each project's TOC.  Example: I have projects A B C D. In A's TOC, I include a link to B C D default topics. In B's TOC, I include a link to A C D default topics. And so on ... The fourth project (D) is new.
The problem I've encountered is with the image appearing in the TOC next to the external link entry for project D in the generated WebHelp.  The image showing up for project D is different from the other two, even though the properties for that page are exactly the same as the other two.  This happens in all three remaining projects (A B C). Even when I change the image (from the image index), the same image (i.e. the standard image for a topic page) appears regardless.
What should appear in all cases is image 13.gif.
(I'll have to figure out later why 19.gif is selected in the properties dialog, whereas 13.gif is actually showing up in WebHelp. Doh.)
    Any ideas?
    thanks,

2-Shoud I delete older backups? If for example, all I need from Time Machine is the latest backup done today, can I get rid of the 2+ yeras of backups, or do they not take up that much space?
No.  Time Machine should be on a separate HDD and will take care of deleting backups when necessary on that drive.
3-Back to the issue, considering I don't have access to a an apple store for the next few months, what is my best plan of action?
I would consider installing a larger internal HDD.  Capacities to 1 TB are now available.
4-I am considering buying a new macbook 15inch, and get more space, however, I'm scared that the same problem will happen again. Is this common on all macs? Will using Time Machine to "Restore" my backups bring along the issues as well?
All Macs using Time Machine will experience the same conditions.  The problem is that many users do not under stand what 'Other' is and that leads to confusion.  There are many essential OS files in that category that should not be touched as well as some user files.  The issue is not to reduce 'Other' as such, but reduce the total amount of data on the HDD if space is becoming a premium.

  • External link in TOC item cannot be changed, it keeps returning to previous link

I am using RoboHelp 9 WebHelp Pro publishing to RoboHelp Server 9. I just imported an existing project (and went through the upgrade process) and am now trying to make some changes to my project prior to publishing. One of these changes is to change the hyperlink  / file path to a TOC item. For some reason I can make the change, however when I try to accept it and publish, the path returns to the original path. I am unable to change this path to a new one. Does anyone know of a solution?
Does anyone know if this may be related to my other issue with this project where turning the Search option for Context off is not being applied ?  (see: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4743109)

Are you saying that your change is accepted in the RH interface but that after you publish to the RHS that the link still points to the old path? If so check your unpublished files (click View from your WebHelp Pro SSL) and see if that works. If it does try restarting your Tomcat service (if you are using Tomcat) and deleting your browser cache. Another way to prove where the issue is would be to create a new RHS Area and publish to that. If it works there.
Personally I wouldn't say this is related to your other issue.

  • Linking to TOC Books

    Greetings,
I am using RX7 to develop a WebHelp project. My client would
like to have Splash page which allows the user to click a link and
    display a specific TOC Book.
I can meet the client requirement by creating separate
projects and linking from the Splash page to the project.
Is it possible to create a single project, have the Splash
page display and then open a specific book when the corresponding
    link is clicked?
    Thanks,

I suggest creating a topic that is your splash page. Then, in
the Properties dialog of the TOC book in the TOC pod, link a topic
to the book. Next, the link on the splash page would point to the
topic that is linked to the book.
If you don't want the splash page in the TOC, you could leave
    it out.
    Hope this helps,
    Ben

  • RH8 HTML - WebHelp: Topic link in TOC goes to wrong topic

I just got my upgrade to RH8 today, and I must say it has NOT been a pleasant experience so far. This issue is just one of many I will probably be posting in the next few days.
I have one RH file that I use to create two versions of help text, using conditional tags to separate out the content. In RH 7 this has worked very well. After my upgrade to RH8 today, I generated each of these files, and discovered that one of the files has the incorrect topic attached to the link in the TOC. I checked the TOC in RH, and everything is fine. I also checked the breadcrumbs, which show the correct location, and I checked the conditional tags and conditional build expressions, but still the wrong topic is displayed.
Has the way conditional tags worked changed in any way? I haven't changed anything in the files today, just opened them in RH8. My conditional build expression is created so that if the tag exists on the topic, it is included in the generated help, but there are many topics that include two conditional tags. These seem to be the ones that have the issues.
On top of this, if I am in help A and I search for a topic that is in help B, it still shows me topics that should only be included in help B.
Seriously. Can all this get messed up simply by opening my help file in RH8? On my first day using it? What other unpleasant surprises do I have in store? Well, other than that nasty looking search results box with the big numbered rank column I can't get rid of.
    Kari

Well, I've discovered a solution to this initial problem, and it has nothing to do with the conditional tags. I think I'll have to start a new discussion to get a resolution to why those don't seem to be working correctly.
After trying a number of things, I stumbled upon the fix, which is, as I've come to expect, completely illogical.
In reviewing the html for the help topic that wasn't appearing correctly, I noticed that the topic was associated with a template called "Main". I inherited this help project, and have never used the templates, always relying on a .css file to handle the styles and formatting. If I went into the topic properties and changed the template to "none", then re-generated the project, the topic link in the TOC went to the correct file.
One problem solved, though why it works is still beyond me. Now on to the conditional build issue!

  • Layout Items Linking to ToC Page Number

Does anyone know if there is way to link layout elements to page numbers in a Table of Contents?
For instance, I have a layout full of ads. If I was to move an ad to another page I want the ToC to update the new page number automatically. Is there any way to do this?
    Thanks

    TOC sees only paragraph styles.
I explained a way of doing this using non-printing tags that are grouped with ads, however, in the June/July 2009 issue of InDesign Magazine. The method allows automated sorting by category and advertiser.

  • External links in TOC not opening in separate instance of IE after convert to RH7

We converted our FlashHelp project from RoboHelp 6 to
RoboHelp 7. External links in table of contents were set in the
Advance tab to open in a New Window. This worked fine in RH5 and
RH6 but when converted to RH7, the external link opens in the topic
    pane.
Links within topics that link out to external web pages or
documents are set to open in New Window and these work fine.
Why would the Advance option for New Window work differently
as a hyperlink in a topic vs. a link from the table of content? How
do I fix this? Don't see any documentation in help system.

fixed via in one of the releases to RH7

  • Linking to TOC or slide - Captivate 6

I've always wanted to link to specific parts of a Captivate video in our LMS, which allows external links.  However, with Flash I couldn't find a way to do it.  Now that we can publish to HTML5, I'm wondering if it's possible.
Ideally, we would be able to "bookmark" a specific slide, and link to it as you can to any bookmarked html file.  I realize this is probably just wishful thinking, but does anybody have any idease?
    Thanks,
    Marion

    Hi there
For deployment on CD-ROM, you still need to follow the steps outlined earlier. But you need to add in a process. You need to install a Web Server that runs from CD.
The process below should work to install Server2Go on CD-ROM
Download the Server2Go software from http://www.server2go-web.de/download/download.html
    Choose the Micro package
This should result in receiving a zip file named distribute_apache1.3_micro.zip
Unzip the contents of the zip file to the root of your hard drive ( C:\ )
This should create a folder named distribute_apache1.3_micro
Open this folder and delete the following files and folders inside:
    Files:
    splash.bmp
    logo.ico
    readme.txt
    Folders:
    dlls
    dbdir
    cgi-bin
Open the htdocs folder and delete all files and folders inside.
Copy all of your Captivate output files to the htdocs folder
Rename the HTML page Captivate created to index.htm
Copy the contents of the distribute_apache1.3_micro folder to the CD-ROM and test!
Hopefully you will then find that the PDF now opens without issue.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Save as PDF option in MS Word 2007 does not create TOC links

    Hello All,
i am using Microsoft Office Word 2007 to create How to Guides, Installation Manuals, and other technical documents. I send these documents to customer in PDF format.
When i use "Save as PDF" option of MS Word 2007 to generate PDF file, it creates the PDF but without TOC links. TOC entries are there but hyperlinks are missing.
Can anyone please provide me a solution to work around this issue.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Anax Thomas

    Hi,
It seems that you are trying to insert a Hyperlink in you document which you want to save as a PDF file from Word 2007,
but when you open the PDF file there is no such a Hyperlink but only the website address.
If there is anything misunderstanding, please feel free to let me know.
    Try this:
When you have inputted the website address, enter an “Space” or “Enter” behind it to make it
turn into a Hyperlink before you save the document into PDF file.
    Sincerely,
    Fangfang

  • How do I update linked FM files without losing TOC entries or Map IDs?

    Hi,
I'm using RH 10 with linked FM 11 files to create a WebHelp project and this is what happens when I do an update or force update of a linked file in the RH project:
After the update, the topic that contains updated content gets deleted from project TOC in RH.
After the update, any Map IDs assigned to the topic that contains the updated content are deleted.
Can someone please advise how to update a linked file without losing TOC entries or Map IDs?
    Thanks a bunch!
    Gabe

    HI Gabe,
You will want to link the TOC from FM in your conversion settings, and set the map id's via TopicAlias markers in FM.

  • AIRHelp Links Pages Styles Change Appearance

Using RoboHelp 9 trial on Windows 7 x64.
    The issue:
When displaying external web pages in an AIRHelp Application the page displays correctly for
about 2 seconds and then suddenly jumps to some different styles on some elements.
This makes some of the text change size and become justified full (instead of aligned left).
Obviously this makes the pages look broken.
Example Before (on page load it looks correct for about 2 seconds)
Example After (after about 2 seconds the style jumps to justified and a bit larger)
You can see in this example that it has affected both the heading and the body text
(which are now justified and larger).
I used the Application Help template for this test project.
The default CSS has not been changed much (just some left margin).
Found no "justified" in the default CSS file.
It happens on multiple completely different website links.
Does not happen on all websites.
Above example link for testing (http://blog.nooku.org)
Happens on both Favorites Links and TOC URL links. (just add to Favorites to test)
The page zoom in AIRHelp does not seem to be related to this.
    What am I missing?
Have been using H&M for years and am testing RH9 because of the advanced AIRHelp
features such as the ability to seamlessly incorporate web pages and feeds etc.
Any guidence on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Thanks for taking a look at this.
The issue is not with the RSS feed(s).
The feed for that blog website seems to work fine in the Favorites RSS Feeds.
The issue is with the display of the websites within the AIRHelp application.
Links entered as ToC items, or Favorites Links, or followed from a Favorites RSS Feed - same issue each time.
It only happens with some websites (but most that I have checked).
So I am assuming that the AIRHelp Webkit browser is for some reason applying the styles.
It appears that the built-in browser is the issue.
I took a look at the source code of the various pages to see if I could spot something.
Because it does not affect all websites I am guessing that there is some common thread.
To make my first test AIRHelp project I decided to try to make a sort of Resource Guide.
This would include some topics, and quite a few extenal links (and some feeds).
I really like the idea of being able to put all this in one interface, sort of like the Adobe Help application.
This blog link shows the bigger and justified issue.
    http://blog.nooku.org
    Same here
    http://www.nooku.org
Assembla.com - appears only the body text gets bigger (but not justified)
    https://nooku.assembla.com/
Vimeo.com - appears to show no change (appears as original page does)
    http://www.vimeo.com/nooku
On this blog one H1 gets much larger and justified - the rest of the page seems to be unaffected
    http://blog.bedre.no/nooku/
GNU.org - all text gets smaller
    http://www.gnu.org/licenses/quick-guide-gplv3.html
It appears that perhaps there are some issues in the browser engine in AIRHelp.
The feature which most draws me to RH9 AIRHelp does not seem to be working correctly.
Any ideas or work-arounds would be appreciated.
    Thanks again.

  • Can TOC contain hyperlinks to external docs?

    WebHelp, RH9
Can I build a TOC that consists of a list of hyperlinks to external Word documents -- by which I mean Word docs not linked or imported into the project but instead, residing on a shared network drive in an intranet environment. When the user clicks the TOC entry, the Word doc would open either in the content pane or in a new browser window.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi all
In addition to what others have said, I'll also offer this. Even on a "fast" intranet, a Microsoft Word document can take a long time to open.
<Begin scratchy little old man voice here>
Sonny, back in the day when I was a young whippersnapper, when I was in the corporate world, I did the same thing myself. And because opening the document always took longer than most would reasonably expect, I developed a technique that I coined as "docfetch".
I created a separate page in my project for each link. Then linked the TOC to those pages. On the page itself I added some verbiage along the following lines: Please wait as your document is opened.
Then I configured this page to perform a meta redirect that opened the document a second or two later.
This caused the users to stop flooding my inbox to say things were "broke". Also, at that time RoboHelp had issues where it would lose the links to things like documents from the TOC. So it prevented that from happening too.
To configure a meta redirect, just add the following meta tag to your HTML:
    <meta HTTP-EQUIV=refresh CONTENT="2;URL=G:\SomeFolder\SomeDocument.DOC">

  • Link between CHMs

I want to create a link between two CHMs that reside in the
same directory from the TOC. For example, just for context, I have
    the following:
    Link 1
    Link 2
    Link 3
Link 3 links to a remote topic. The link opens successfully
in the right pane of the CHM, but I want the link to open the
second CHM help, not open in the same frame.
I selected new window in the properties of the TOC but still
    no luck.

    Hi, TechWriter77,
You can do this by linking the TOC entry to a topic that,
when opened, fires a ShortCut control for opening the second .chm
    file. See the example below.
I think Rick also covers this in his Tips and Tricks file
("Launching HTML Help Shortcuts from the TOC/Index" and "Launching
    external .CHMs").

  • TOC to ePub issue

    InDesign CS5; MacOS 10.6.5
When I export my TOC document to ePub, the TOC doesn't show—only the last two pages containing text and an image.
The TOC has defined paragraph styles. I think I have my export settings correct.
Help in isolating this issue is appreciated.
Note: Viewing other documents in the book via export to ePub do show up correctly—although the book does need formatting tweaking for ePub.
Also, when I tried exporting the entire book via the book panel, InDesign begins the export, but no activity in the progress bar; I have to force quit to get out the endless loop. Then, when I restart InDesign, untitled files begin to open—10, 20 and so on; I then have to manually close each file.
I suspect the TOC is causing this issue.

    Firstly. Unzip your epub file
Change the filename from "filename.epub" to "filename.zip"
    Unzip the file
So you will see under the OEBPS folder all of your files as "filename.xhtml"
Also a .css file which holds your style for the books (paragraph and character style)
    Step one (linking your TOC)
Open you TOC file in Dreamweaver.
    Select the first entry
Click on the picture of a folder in the bottom box
Select the corresponding file. In this case it's Acknowledgments.
rinse and repeat all entries in your TOC (sure it's repeatitive but it works).
Then open your individual files which you have link to from your TOC. (you can open them all at once)
Select something to link back to, and point the link back to the TOC file.
    Rinse and repeat
The once you have done this.
you need re zip your your folder to an epub.
Down this applescript from this first post.
    http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55681&highlight=epub+mac+zip
Simply drag you folder onto it. this will zip up you folder into a .epub
