Failed TLS Connection to alternate SMTP Destination

I have a typical Exchange 2003 environment, all outbound mail is directed to IronPort C100 for delivery. I have a need to encrypt some outbound email, and so I created a content filter that basically says if "secure:" is in the subject line, then send mail to alternate destination host. In testing this process, it seems as if all is well until ironport tries to contact the destination host. The mail log capture indicates the following:
Info: New SMTP ICID 4561477 interface in/out (10.0.0.20) address 10.1.1.70 reverse dns host moex.uhcu.net verified yes
Info: ICID 4561477 RELAY SG RELAYLIST match 10.1.1.70 SBRS rfc1918
Info: Start MID 1006256 ICID 4561477

Info: MID 1006256 Subject 'secure:'

Info: MID 1006256 matched all recipients for per-recipient policy DEFAULT in the outbound table

Info: Bounced: DCID 361778 MID 1006256 to RID 0 - 5.1.0 - Unknown address error ('554', ['5.7.1 <pgerdes66>: Relay access denied'])
One caveat is that the email encryption provider can only provide instructions for setting up a TLS Connection directly from Exchange 2003 to their SMTP Gateway using a SmartHost connection, which requires a username and password. Do I need to configure a username/password and somehow insert that into the TLS session from IronPort to the alternate SMTP Host?

First let me say, I wish you would consider using the on-box IronPort/PostX email encryption available in the 5.5 release, in place of outsourcing this feature. I would be glad to demo this for you.
In any case, here is the solution to your problem: (details found in the “Outgoing SMTP Authentication” section of the Advanced User Guide – online help.)
Step 1) Create an Outgoing SMTP Authentication Profile (This is done under the Network -> SMTP Authentication menu.
Step 2) Add or Edit a SMTP Route for the IP address of the "alternate destination host" you are connecting to, set the outgoing SMTP Authentication to use the profile created in step 1).
Optional Step 3) email me and I can come by your office and help.

  • Mail fails to connect to smtp servers after 10.9.3 update

Wiped hard drive and installed 10.9 plus 10.9.3 combo updater.
90% of my email accounts cannot connect to their smtp servers.
Created a new user account and setup Mail with an account with the same result.

    Confirmed.
At my University, I have a locally produced .mobileconfig file that is used to set up network, mail and all other access on a new Mac / Macbook. Further, the University uses a self-signed certificate to authenticate all connections.
Up until 10.9.2, Mail worked normally as it should.
After 10.9.3, Mail works for the imap server (and I can receive email fine) but sending email via the smtp server fails at all times except the ones noted below (read on). Connection doctor says that smtp server rejected authentication and advises me to recheck my username and password (needless to add - they are correct).
    smtp connections work if:
    1. I delete all Mail accounts.
    2. Use the University-supplied .mobileconfig file to recreate all accounts (LDAP, mail, wifi, etc.).
If however, I close my macbook to sleep it, or change network settings (go from proxied to non-proxied mode, or vice versa - which was never a problem until now), smtp stops working.
Upshot - smtp works only if I delete my accounts everytime I wake up the macbook and redo steps 1 and 2 above. I have taken to saving contents of the outbox to the drafts folder, and then logging in through the webmail interface to actually send the email.
    This is nuts.
Apple's engineers need their heads examined if they think that rolling out an inadequately tested update is acceptable.

  • Error sending emails to Internet: Failed to connect. Winsock error code: 10051

Our exchange 2013 CU2 (CAS+MBX, Win2012) was sending emails to Internet using another server (a kerio email server) and outbound internet email was working as expected.
We have now removed the Kerio server, I also removed the kerio_Send_Connector I was using to send emails to internet and I also changed the email domain in Exchange to be authoritative. I created a new Internet send connector with default values, but the same
    bad behavior is present.
Our Exchange 2013 receives emails internally and externally with no problems. The problems are sending emails to Internet. I am suspecting something in the firewall but i need to do some more research.
If from the same Exchange server I telnet to an Internet email host:25 I do get the smtp banner but as soon as I start typing HELO/EHLO I get disconnected and errors are logged.
Errors when sending emails to any emails address (this is from an email sent to google, all others are the same):
Remote Server at aspmx3.googlemail.com (74.125.136.26) returned '400 4.4.7 Message delayed'
7/1/14 9:52:44 a. m. - Remote Server at aspmx3.googlemail.com (74.125.136.26) returned '441 4.4.1 Error encountered while communicating with primary target IP address: "Failed to connect. Winsock error code: 10051, Win32 error code: 10051." Attempted
failover to alternate host, but that did not succeed. Either there are no alternate hosts, or delivery failed to all alternate hosts. The last endpoint attempted was 74.125.136.26:25'
I cannot find any references from such Winsock error that are related to Exchange 2013.
So far all email is being queued at the Exchange Server 2013. I am afraid to install CU3 and make things worse.
    Thanks for your comments.

Just check if the receive connector settings are set to fine
check the send connector properties and see whether it is  set to use DNS to route emails through external DNS/Internal DNS or smart host .
Do a telnet to external domain like hotmail, yahoo and see  at what transaction you are getting an error
Enable verbose logging, restart the transport service and check if you get the same error in the verbose logs as well
Get in touch with the ISP and see if the port 25 for Outbound SMTP is  opened.
YOu can check if SMTP Proxy is enabled in the firewall. If so disable the SMTP proxy in the firewall and check.
    Good Luck!!

  • Decision Service calls failing with connection refused

    Hi All,
Breifing of the bpel process - Async bpel process XX_BPEL_ASYNC_002 calls decision services and a sync bpel process XX_BPEL_SYNC_001.
We have moved to cluster 10.1.3.5.0 from 10.1.3.3.0 and the deployement of the bpel process and the decision service done on two nodes i.e., node51 and node55.
But the bpel process is able to call the decision service only when the node 51 is UP and running, but if node 51 is down and node 55 is up and running it is failing with connection refused error. It is also working when 55 is DOWN and 051 is UP.
    the exact error is:
exception on JaxRpc invoke: HTTP transport error: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: java.security.PrivilegedActionException: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: Message send failed: Connection refused.
We are using file based repository.
It is failing when it tries to call particular url:
    http://loadbalancerurl:7777/orabpel/domain001/XX_BPEL_ASYNC_002/1.0/decisionservices.decs
Can anyone please help me or advice me for finding some solution.
    Thanks

    Hi Fatsah,
It has been a while since we resolved this problem. But these were  the basic steps that we had taken.
The receiver was configured a File adatpter with FTP:
    Port: 10021
Connection security : FTPS (FTP using SSL/TLS) for Control and Data Connection
    Command Order: AUTH TLS,USER,PASS,PBSZ,PROT
Problem: The message was blocked in our firewall.
FTPS in this case used 10021 as the control port and the firewall allowed to pass the control request.
Once the connection was accepted at the control level, it generated a random port number  to pass data on the channel.
This random port number was blocked in the firewall.
We monitored the data port numbers generated at firewall. Then we configured the firewall to open any port number  between the specific IP addresses of the sender and the receiver. That resolved the problem.
    Hope this helps!
Please give points if this is helpful.
    Thank you.

If you are running oracle 10g, then, the following would be helpful.
    Cause
The parameter DB_ALLOWED_LOGON_VERSION has not been set in the remote database.
DB_ALLOWED_LOGON_VERSION is a new parameter introduced in 10g that allows the DBA to explicitly determine which authentication protocols are allowed by the client or database.
The value specified is the earliest client version level supported by this database.
When clients earlier than the specified version attempt to connect, authentication will fail.
    Solution
In the init.ora of the remote (Downstream capture) database, set the following : db_allowed_logon_version=10
Note: Bug 2981553, which is implemented in 10.1.0.2, removes the parameter db_allowed_logon_version. This is replaced by the sqlnet.ora parameter called sqlnet_allowed_logon_version.

  • SSRS: Failure sending mail: The transport failed to connect to the server.

I run SSRS and email reports using SMTP service on a Windows Server 2008 R2 box. This has been working for months and stopped today around noon.
I have checked all SMTP settings and verified they are correct. I can send an email from SQL Server Management Studio, using SMTP service with no trouble.
Now in SSRS I am getting this message:
Failure sending mail: The transport failed to connect to the server.
I have read every link when I google this message or type it into bing.com; yet cannot find a reason why SSRS has suddenly stopped emailing my reports.
I have restarted the server in question, I have changed account names, I have changed passwords, yet nothing is working.
I even approached our senior dba about it and he has never seen this happen.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
    Thank you,
    Jessica

    Thank you JJordheim.
IDS is not an issue. Neither is the Windows Firewall on the server. I actually turned it off while troubleshooting to make sure it was not causing the issue.
SSRS and my SMTP Virtual service are on the same server. I am running the SMTP service through IIS. I even created a new SMTP Service to test with. No luck.

  • MDBs failed to connect to remote JMS server

    Hi,
We currently have 2 clusters: one is a regular cluster (cluster1) and the other is JMS cluster (cluster2). Our JMS server and filestore are targeted to a migratable server in JMS cluster.
In our weblogic-ejb-jar.xml, we added element <provider-url> to the <message-driven-descriptor> to allow JMS remote connection as follows:
              <weblogic-enterprise-bean>
                   <ejb-name>MyBean</ejb-name>
                   <message-driven-descriptor>
                        <destination-jndi-name>MyTopic</destination-jndi-name>
              <provider-url>t3://myhost:19009,myhost:19011</provider-url>
              <connection-factory-jndi-name>MyConnectionFactory</connection-factory-jn
              di-name>
                   </message-driven-descriptor>
              </weblogic-enterprise-bean>
When we deployed our application, the Connection Status of MyBean showed "disconnected". I have tried different values (t3://myhost:19009;t3://myhost:19011) and
(t3://myhost:19009) but got the same result.
When I re-targeted the JMS server and filestore to a regular server (instead of migratable server), I was able to connect remotely. But because we want to be able to migrate our JMS server (auto and manually), I have to target it to a migratable server.
I could not figure out why my MDBs failed to connect to a remote JMS server when it is targeted to a migratable server? Is there a restriction that we have to target to a regular server in order to connect remotely or I'm doing something wrong?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
              Thanks,
              Thao

I'm using WL9.2 and my migratable server is actually up and running (is that what you mean about booted?).                    I meant checking your log files to make sure that the JMS server itself actually booted, not checking that the host WL server was up. (For example you should see INFO messages indicating that the JMS server has loaded "X" records from its persistent store).
              >>> Could you elaborate on the known problem?
9.x MDBs have special code for enhanced handling of remote distributed destinations. I'm guessing that this code is somehow causing problems when the remote JMS server is migratable. I don't have enough information to elaborate further than that.
              >>> What else I can try?
Beyond contacting customer support, I'm not sure.
              Tom

Any suggestions on what I can ask my IT department to change on the server so I can connect would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Jeremy,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
From the error and other description it seems that there is some misconfiguration with setup. You need to provide the FQDN name of the server as might server name is not resolving its name properly and so facing issue. As seems from below details:
    [2014-Nov-26 15:52:20] RDP (0): Final rdp configuration used:gatewayhostname:s:gato.gibbscam.com
    screen mode id:i:0
    use multimon:i:1
    session bpp:i:24
    full address:s:dev-JeremyS2.gibbs.local
Configuration used and full address name both appears different so please verify configuration accordingly.
Please check the DNS record, check certificate whether it match FQDN name of the server with certificate name, also try to check to connect with IP address and see what result you can find.
You can follow below guide to configure RD Gateway and after that verify the result.
    1. Deploying Remote Desktop Gateway RDS 2012
    2. How To Work with RD Gateway in Windows Server 2012
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • PING[ARCp]: Heartbeat failed to connect to standby 'psmartbk'

My system run on Oracle 10g R2 Windows 32 bit; I've configure data guard with one primary "smartbk" and one physical standby "psmartbk" on the same PC; I get he following error on the primary database "PING[ARCp]: Heartbeat failed to connect to standby 'psmartbk'. Error is 16047.ORA-16047: DGID mismatch between destination setting and standby.PING[ARCp]: Heartbeat failed to connect to standby 'psmartbk'
    . Error is 16047."

ORA-16047: DGID mismatch between destination setting and standby
Cause: The DB_UNIQUE_NAME specified for the destination does not match the DB_UNIQUE_NAME at the destination.
Action: Make sure the DB_UNIQUE_NAME specified in the LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n parameter defined for the destination matches the DB_UNIQUE_NAME parameter defined at the destination.
So check your LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n parameter on both the parameter files??
    Hope this helps
    Regards

  • Could not establish TLS connection on port 7001 - "unable to get local issuer certificate"

Getting above error on Expressway-C server while establishing TLS connection with Expressway-E in DMZ. I have enabled static NAT on Expressway-E and give the Public IP on peer address of Expressway-C. At that time, i was getting DNS resolution error  on Expressway-C so we added a host record on local DNS for Public IP. Later, I created CSR from both Expressway C & E server and ask local microsoft team to issue Local CA certificates. After uploading, i was getting above error (Failed to establish TLS). Also i have uploaded company (wilcard) Public certificates (issued from Geotrust) and we are getting the samer error and Expressway server could not establish TLS connection on port 7001. Firewall connections are done and i double checked it.
    Expressway ver 8.2

Yes, Exp-C > Peer Address (FQDN of Exp-E)
Certificate of Exp-E -> When generating CSR from Exp-E, automatically FQDN (Exp-E(hostname).domainname.com) will be shown. Then this CSR will be send to local CA or Public CA to generate a certificate. OR you meant to say in Exp-E CSR we need to add FQDN of Exp-C server also in alternative name and vice versa too.
Yes, root certificates & intermediate certificates are uploaded to trusted CA.

  • How to implement SMTP Email ping / Telnet connection to a SMTP Server?

    Dear all,
i want to implement an advanced email address check where a connection to target smtp server is performed and the reply from the server is read back.
This program should check if the user exists and is accepted by the smtp server.
An alternative/part of the solution could be to perform a TELNET connection to the smtp host and get the output without sending an email.
    Has anybody done this before?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Regards,
    Adam

    Adam,
    Check this program.
    Cheers,
    Thomas.
