Failed to install ohasd startup script

Hello!
SLES10-sp3
I'm installing (new install - not upgrade) clusterware 11.2.0.2 and everything is working OK after initial installation. However, I noticed the following when running root.sh on both nodes:
Failed to install ohasd startup script, error: Inappropriate ioctl for deviceBut the script runs ok after that and clusterware is running successfully.
However, as i feared from the above error, my OHASD.bin process is not starting after reboot and consequently the cluster is down.
I think the problem is that root.sh couldnt create the startup scripts..
I do have this is in my /etc/initttab
h1:35:respawn:/etc/init.d/init.ohasd run >/dev/null 2>&1 </dev/null , but nothing that reminds of ohasd or gcstartup in rc3.d or rc5.d
Could you please post me the script so that i can manually create it? or do you have some other tips?
greatly appricated!

  • Ssh install on solaris core group installation - startup scripts?

    hi all,
i have a fresh "core group" installation of solaris 11/06 now up and running.
I have added the following pkg to get ssh running.
    bash-3.00# pkginfo |grep ssh
    system SUNWsshcu SSH Common, (Usr)
    system SUNWsshdr SSH Server, (Root)
    system SUNWsshdu SSH Server, (Usr)
system SUNWsshr SSH Client and utilities, (Root)
system SUNWsshu SSH Client and utilities, (Usr)
so it is installed. I have manually created ssh_host_keys and I can start and use sshd/sftp -server. However I'm in need to find the best way of starting this up at boot. I have followed a link to Sun Blueprints for open ssh startup scripts.
    http://www.sun.com/blueprints/tools/ > secureshell-tools.tar.Z
however this relies on prng (psuedo random number generator). my "default installation" of solaris 10 11/06 does not have this installed and ssh works fine, so I am reluctant to go down prng path.
furthermore searching my "default installation" of solaris 10 11/06 i can not see any ssh startup scripts that I could heist
    please advise best practice

    fixed for now

  • OS install in guest  ldom fails on install-begin script

    Hello,
I am installing solaris 10 u4 on guest ldom using DVD media loaded in the physical server. The guest ldom was able to boot from DVD media and goes through installation steps where I input the hostname, ip, etc upto the section where the install script prompts for "Remote Services Enabled". After this section, the installation drops to # prompt.
    System identification complete.
    /sbin/install-begin: test: argument expected
    Exiting to shell.
When I do "cat /sbin/install-begin", this script shows incomplete. Earlier I checked the script in primary ldom under /cdrom/cdrom0/s1/sbin, and it looked ok and I am using the same DVD media which was used to build the base OS.

  • Powershell startup scripts fail on Windows 8.1 with error 267

GPO Powershell startup script fails to execute on Windows 8.1, but does run on Windows 8 and Windows 7. Powershell logon scripts run normally on all versions of Windows.
The event log contains entries with event ID 1130 from the GroupPolicy source. The log entries claim error 267 "directory name is invalid".
Running cmd.exe on Windows 8.1 under the computer's account (NT Authority\SYSTEM) confirms that the Powershell script's path in SYSVOL is valid and the script executes normally.
Running procmon on Windows 8.1 while the startup script is being run on a computer shows that the computer caches the files and folders for this GPO into C:\Windows\system32\GroupPolicy.
I am not sure why these scripts are failing to execute on Windows 8.1 when they run on Windows 8 and the same set of GPOs are applied to both Windows 8.1 and Windows 8 computers.

These are all good suggestions, but I have already tried to eliminate:
    All environment variables
    All network paths
Setup the GPO to reference the script by the file name and with a full absolute path. Neither worked.
Tried copying the scripts to multiple folders inside the policy, since the event log message reports only the root path of the policy.
I also used procmon to monitor how the computer handles the startup scripts. I found that the computer caches them into a folder under C:\Windows\System32, but never runs any of them. I never found an error that I could correlate with the event log.
For instance the following one line scripts failed to run:
    'I AM HERE.' | sc -path C:\Windows\TEMP\TEST.txt
    write-host 'I AM HERE.'
As far as I can see the first script relies on the existence of C:\Windows\TEMP and write permission to it, which SYSTEM should have.
The second one liner has no dependencies at all and it doesn't run with the same error.
I have created multiple GPOs and scripts, so if there was a problem in creating these files and folders it is happening over and over. I checked the permissions and computer accounts have read and execute permissions all throughout the GPOs.
Everything works perfectly on Windows 7 and 8, just not on 8.1.

  • "CreateService Failed" when installing StartUp Framework

    Hi there,
I was just trying to install the StartUp Framwork for EP6 SP2 / WAS 6.20. I have done everything the startupep.pdf told me, but when it gets serious - running SAPStartServ - I get the error message "Cannot install service. CreateService failed: 421 Der Kontenname ist unzulässig oder nicht vorhanden, oder das Kennwort ist für den angegeben Kontennamen ungültig." (Translation for the last sentence: "The account is impermissible or not existent or the account's password is invalid."
My computer does not belong to a domain, so I just typed in my account name and my password (all this happens on Windows XP professional). The account exists and the password is valid. So if the error message is somewhat correct, my account is "impermissible" - but why? Do I need any additional rights? There is nothing stated about this in the docs...
Ten points for the one helping me out... 3...2...1...run!
    Best regards
    Detlev

    Hi,
****, I cannot give me the points...
Just got it: Even if I do not belong to a domain, I had to set my computer name in front of my user (instead of "dbeutner" I had to type "nietzsche\dbeutner").
Sorry for having solved the problem on my own
    Bye

  • How to configure a script so as not to install on startup?

There is a script. I choose "Install on startup" when I installed it. It causes crashes. Even if I uninstall it, it causes crashes in the system if it has been installed. Every time I restart it's there. How do I configure Frame so that this script does not install on startup?

    Did you solve this yet?
There are 2 directories that take items that are executed on startup of FrameMaker: both are called startup. One is in the FrameMaker program directory, the other is user-specific and is located in the <User> \ AppData \ Roaming \ Adobe \ FrameMaker \ <version> directory.
Check both directories to see if the script was installed in either one. The Script Catalog dialog in FM11 does not have an 'Install on startup' option but there is a Move to Autorun button, which copies the script into the user-specific startup directory. If the script came with an installer, it might be moving the script into the program startup directory instead.
If the script keeps appearing and it is not in either startup directory, you should be more elaborate about the type of script, the exact method of installation and uninstallation, etc. I am just going by the short info you are giving, which might be about another type of script altogether.
    Ciao

  • How do I sound an alarm if a thread fails to start from the weblogic startup script?

Here's the problem. I have a critical java program for my web app that
is its own thread and is started by the weblogic startup script when
the weblogic server is started. The constructor of this thread will
throw exceptions and send out emergency emails to the Sys Ops people
if it cant instantiate itself correctly. The only time that it wont be

    1) Post a console message to the admin (thro' net send in NT).
    2) Hard code a default email address (easiest).

  • Office 2010 setup thru computer startup script

I am trying to install Office 2010 (sp2 seperate in the updates folder) thru group policy startup script and configured with OCT .msp file. Also try to start Access Runtime 2010 with SP2 update in the updates folder.
In group policy set run scripts asynchronisely disabled and run scripts visible enabled otherwise i could not see what the system was doiing also not when configiguring OCT with full display. The gpo settings lets the screens show during install so the user
    can see what happens.
There is another problem that rises however: I have made 2 batchfiles and both are starting as a computer startup script in seperate gpo's (that is in another post). First the Accessruntime is installing, after that Office 2010 is running. Both are installed
after login but only one of the 2 have SP2 installed (7015) in this case Accessruntime has it. When i run only the Office 2010 install and not the Accesruntime 2010 then Office 2010 standard has also SP2 installed (version 7015). When running both only Runtime
has this sp2 and Office has 4763 this is without sp2 i believe.
In both folders (Office en Runtime) are the update files .msp in the updates folder of the installation, so thats ok.
Why is only 1 of the 2 installing the SP2 when running both?
A second thing is when restarting the system and before the login screen appears a message: Upgradepatch cannot be installed by Windows installer becasue the upgraded program does not excist of the upgradepatch is not suitable for this program?
Here is part of the batchfile:
IF EXIST "c:\program files\Microsoft Office\Office14\WINWORD.EXE" (goto mkfile) ELSE (goto DeployOffice)
    :mkfile
ECHO Office 2010 is reeds geinstalleerd>c:\temp\office.txt
    goto end
    :DeployOffice
    call cscript \\sharename\office2010\Offscrub03.vbs ALL /bypass 1 /q /s /NoCancel
    start /wait %DeployServer%\setup.exe /adminfile %DeployServer%\officeconfig.msp
    echo %date% %time% Setup ended with error code %errorlevel%. >> %LogLocation%\%computername%.txt
    Another batchfile
    start \\sharename\accessruntime2010\setup.exe /config \\share\accessruntime2010\config.xml
    REM echo %date% %time% Setup ended with error code %errorlevel%. >> %LogLocation%\%computername%.txt
    freddie
after installing both runtime and office both have SP2 in updates folder:
    runtime 4763
    Office 2010: 7015
So in this example runtme is installed without the SP2. installing runtime alone gives with SP2...
The message is gone. There was a other policy inherited from above that caused the message. The only problem now is that when installing both, runtime 2010 with SP2 files and Office 2010 with SP2 files, then one of the two don't get the Sp2 installed, why
    is that?

So it is NOT GP related but rather your script fails?!? Put some "echo
    %~n0 %date% %time%>>Log-File-Of-Your-Choice.txt" in it to check what's
going on. And put ">>Log-File-Of-Your-Choice.txt 2>&1" at the end of
critical commands to capture their output.

  • Installation of CS3 web premium failed to install shared components

    Hi all ,
why is this installation so terrible even after two years of this product release!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! , I think adobe does'nt care to hear customers problems????
    here is my scenario :
user rights : user with admin privileges .
few weeks back i had some issue with the operating system due to some office suite installation hence i had to format my pc . After formatting i tried to install my software's back , when i tried to install CS3 web premium it showed the following error
    shared components failed to install
    adobe cs failed to install
when i tried to open any of the successfully installed programs it said license stopped working
i tried all possible steps mentioned in various blogs and forums , here is a list of steps i tried
    uninstalled the suite .
    Installed windows clean up utility.
Downloaded the CS3 clean up script ran the same in all levels including the hidden levels 3 , 4..
Downloaded and ran the flash uninstaller.
disabled all services in the msconfig tab.
disabled all start up programs in the msconfig tab.
    restarted the machine .
    installed the suite again .
BINGGGGGGG same error shared components failed to install  *********** .
*I also tried some postings regarding starting flexnet services in the services utility
What is the issue i have been struggling with this for past one week and its driving me mad....any help would be greatly appreciated .
    ~ Sam

In case anyone is still interested in this thread.  I called Adobe tech support and they were able to help me finally get CS3 installed.  The steps I took were kind of messed up because I'd try something and it still wouldn't work and then I'd try something else.  But I think the following was the magic combination that finally worked.  I don't know if this would help anyone else but it worked for me...
I uninstalled all the previously installed CS3 components.  In fact, I uninstalled everything that started with the word "Adobe" on my computer, even Flash Player, just for good measure.
Then I ran the Adobe cleanup script at level 2
I downloaded the script from here...
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs3clean.html
I went into the "computer" window and set it up to show hidden folders.  Click Organize->Folder and Search Options->View. Then click "Show Hidden Files and Folders"
Then I went into C:\ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\Adobe and moved all the files in there to a folder on my desktop so there was nothing left in the Adobe folder (I don't think it wouldn't let me move some of the Acrobat files so the tech support guy said to just leave them)
I did the same thing for C:\ProgramFiles\Adobe and moved all those files to a folder on my desktop
Then I deleted all the files from C:\Users\MyUserName\AppData\Roadming\Adobe
I think I ran the cleanup script one more time just for the heck of it.
Next I went to the start menu and on the "Start Search" line I typed "msconfig."  When the system configuration window came up, I went to the "services" tab and checked "Hide All Microsoft Services"  Then I checked "Disable All"  So that disabled everything that wasn't a MicroSoft service.  Then I went to the "Startup" tab and checked "Disable All" and restarted the computer.
Then I went ahead and installed everything fresh off the CS3 DVD and it worked the first time.  No more 1310 errors with the Config.Msi directory.
    Hope this helps someone else.
    Good luck!
    Jenn

  • Startup scripts...

I am wondering about what would exactly happen if one were to delete a startup script (not deleting a startup item) or launchd items. I am curious because recently I have been having some trouble and I think I have narrowed it down to that. It was actually my friend for some reason, he nor I knows what he was doing. The problem begins when finder is being launched. I have logged into my administrative account (which he was using) and it acts as if I am constantly relaunching Finder. If one has Force Quit Finder before, one sees just the desktop picture and a blank menu bar. Nothing shows up except for the menu bar and the dock. The menu bar flashes on and off as if I was constantly Force Quitting Finder. Anyways, I am thinking that I am having a problem with one or more of the following:
    Launchd items
    Startup scripts in general
    Mach, Mach-sym, Mach_kernel
    Things of that nature
I have basically tried everything non-evasive to fix my problem. I have started up in Safe Mode, which had no effect. I have moved/deleted preferences. I have started up in Single User Mode and have run less/var/log/system.log. Nothing was really wrong, nothing that stood out. I have made sure my /ect and /var links are intact. I ran fsck -f and everything "seems" ok. Of course it wasn't going to tell me everything is perfect. Some other things are that before that every application crashed with a KernProtectionFailure. I have also isolated this problem to my main administrative account. I am on a different account that I made for my friend, but I had left the room for 5 minutes. I am not worried to much about this because my OCD qualities make me back up my computer every day. I have backups of my backups in different formats. I have Backup 3.0 archives, clones, and then I have my main CD collection. The problem is that I forgot my OS X Disc 1 DVD at home along with my external hard drive and iPod that had OS X on it. So basically I am going to be fine, I was just wondering about what could cause such an erratic behavior. Usually erratic behaviors happen when startup items or kernel extensions conflict.
    Thanks,
    Jon
PS After thinking about it right now, I did a Safe boot buy holding down the shift key during start up. What about when holding down the shift key until the login window appears and then releasing it. and once logged in immediately pressing shift again. That differs from Safe Mode?

    Hi, JB.
    1. You wrote: "The problem begins when finder is being launched. I have logged into my administrative account (which he was using) and it acts as if I am constantly relaunching Finder."This often indicates an incompatible or corrupted Startup or Login Item. See my "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ for steps that might help you with this problem.
    2. You wrote: " ran fsck -f and everything "seems" ok. Of course it wasn't going to tell me everything is perfect."If fsck or Disk Utility > Repair Disk finds errors, particularly those it cannot repair, then your Mac OS X installation may be corrupted or your hard drive itself may be damaged.2.1. You can check your hard drive with Disk Utility's built-in ability to use SMART diagnostics. See:
    - "Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Checking a hard disk to see if it's going to fail"; and
-"Disk Utility 10.5 Help: Checking the S.M.A.R.T. status of your hard disk."
2.2. As a general checkup, I suggest you run the procedure outlined in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified.
2.3. If you believe your Mac OS X installation is corrupted, perform and Archive and Install. See my "General advice on performing an Archive and Install" FAQ for some important tips on this process.3. • Wicd works, network startup scripts don't

Title tells the story.  Using wicd-1.7 I can connect to wireless networks and the connection remains stable.  Using various combinations of rc.conf settings, netcfg, /etc/conf.d/wireless getting a connection is impossible at boot time and problematic after boot.  The problem occurs on every system I've tested arch on.  Wicd works, network startup scripts don't or only occasionally if some magic spell is properly cast.  I'm positive I've configured the settings in rc.conf correctly as I've been able to connect using those by some combination of rmmod WLAN_MODULE, modprobe WLAN_MODULE, /etc/rc.d/network restart or netcfg ESSID.  The requirement is that I am willing to go through the sequence multiple times.
I have just started testing arch and don't know if the network scripts worked before, but I assume they must have.  Were there changes in the network startup scripts recently?  I'm seeing many topics in the forums related to wireless problems.

When I say that netcfg ESSID works after startup, I mean that it  works sometimes and that net-auto-wireless failed along with all other options that had the wireless start during boot.  I'm not sure which version I tried but this was a new install in December or January and I was ready to remove arch by the end of February.  A new version of wicd was released with some bug fixes that kept arch on the systems.  Had that failed this laptop would likely have a BSD on it.  Probably OpenBSD as I haven't tested that yet.
My current settings are configured for wicd and not causing any significant issues, other than having to reload the wireless driver when resuming from suspend.

  • Race condition with Startup scripts and 2nd locally mounted hard drive?

    Hello,
My main hard drive is a solid state drive that I have OS 10.6.6 installed on. I also have a secondary local drive that I have installed some applications to.
When my system boots I have some scripts in /Library/StartupItems that run before any users log in. Some of the scripts attempt to launch applications that are stored on my second disk. I have discovered that when my StartupItems run, the second disk has not yet had the opportunity to mount! As a result, my scripts fail of course.
I discovered this by adding the command "mount > /info.txt" to my startup scripts that were not working as expected.
If I insert sleep statements in my scripts that buys them enough time to allow my second drive to mount before they actually perform their useful tasks.
All of this being said can anyone advise what a more appropriate solution would be? Is there a way to arrange the OS mechanisms in a way that would cause all disks to mount before aany StartUp scripts are run?

There are a couple of ways you can do this. The "right" approach is to use DiskArbitration, but that's not easy to do from a shell script. I'd suggest converting your job to launchd (StartupItems are deprecated). Check out Technical Note 2083 (http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#technotes/tn2005/tn2083.html) for more information than you ever wanted on daemons and agents on Mac OS X.
launchd can be a bit daunting if you've never used it before, but it offers a lot of flexibility -- in particular the StartOnMount key. Your job can be triggered whenever a new disk is mounted. From there you can check for the presence of your expected volume, and exit if it's not present. (There is a small race condition here: if the disk mounts after your check but before you exit, you could miss it and fail to run. Also, you may not be able to predict the mountpoint of your disk in certain cases. You might instead want to check that its UUID matches what you expect. You can process the output of diskutil(8) to get the volume UUID.)
Check out the example property list at the bottom of launchd.plist(5). Give it a custom label, specify the path to your script in ProgramArguments, and replace the KeepAlive key with StartOnMount. Set permissions to something like 644 with ownership root:wheel, drop into /Library/LaunchDaemons, and you should be good to go on your next boot. (By convention, the file's name should be the same as your label followed by ".plist".)

nothing is mounted (i rebooted before applying). not sure why it's giving that NFS error. it's consistent tho.. if i reboot and try the manual install of the patch, I get the same error.
after the failed patch "installed" it left my sound not working... so far everything else appears to work. any thoughts on fixing this are appreciated. i ran diskutil and 'fixed perms' and 'verified disk' ... patch still fails.

Try reinstalling the patch. If you get all the way through the installation, then see if your sound works. If not, then I suggest you do a repair install of Sno by installing Sno over Sno as in an upgrade install. Such an install, while usually very safe, still is an install so be appropriated backed up if you proceed.
