Failed to open connection when opening report in InfoView

We get the following error when trying to open any report in InfoView.  This is only happening after our database server changed, but the ODBC connections appear correct.  Can anyone help with this?

Hi Amos,
First of all, check that your ODBC is working.  Do this thorugh ControlPanel->Administrative Tools->DataSources.  If this is working then good.
If the connection test is successful, update your conneciton theough "Set DataSource Location" under the Databadse menu in Crystal Repoorts.

Sometimes if a large number of users run reports from their individual nodes they receive an error "Failed to open report ", if we restart the IIS they are able to run the reports. Hi,
Use the close and dispose method for Report object. Its a best practice to code also gc.collect for garbage collection.
    It might help you!!

    Reagrds,
    Ramesh

    Hi Ramesh,
It may seem like a lot of information, but from a debugging perspective it doesn't tell us much.
You need to give some more info and even then it would probably be a good idea to call support.
    Can you tell us;
    Which version are you on?
Can you open de document from another desktop intelligence machine, not only the one that it was built on?
    - This checks ; you can import the document; the structure of the document is fine (not corrupted).
Can you refresh the document on that other machine?
    - This check ; the link to the universe is fine, the universe can be imported, the connection to the database is fine.
What is your preference as a BOE user to view Deski documents?
    - Try a few others, so you know if the problem is with one type only (and which).
Now you will have a few more pointers more as to where the problem lies.
Even then it can be sheer size of the document, complexity of it, etc.
    Good luck,
    Marianne

    Hi All,
I have Crystal Reports Server XI R2 installed on a server and the database folder (foxpro) is located on a different server. Crystal is connected to the database using an ODBC connection (UNC path).
When I try to preview a report in Infoview or CMC I get the following error: "There was an error retrieving data from the server: The table 'dp' could not be found. Error in File C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\{BC665D6D-95DE-426B-A7A2-EBF9D23F42F4}.rpt: The table could not be found."
dp is the name of one of our tables.
If I publish a report that uses sql database or a foxpro db that is located on the same server as Crystal Server I donu2019t receive any error message..

  • Backend BW roles for users needed when running reports in infoview?

    Hello all,
We are using SAP BI Queries as the sources of our universes, the user is going to logon to infoview to run report in webi. We have created some access levels in CMC to restrict users, the question is - the user will still need some kind of backend BW roles to have access to the BI query that is developed in BW system right? That way the user can fetch data?
    Let me know
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
If you are using SAP Authentication and Single sign on option in universe connection, the users must have sufficient roles to access SAP BW database.
if not, the only user login which you create during connection creation having roles to access to BW database is enough. In this case, the user can login to Infoview using any user and can access the report if he has priveleges to the report.
    Hope this helps!

    Hi Sylvia,
It seems that the reverse proxy you are using: Apache could have problems with the sessions of the users. I have seen the same behaviour with other Load Balancers. If you have different WAS in the backend, make sure they stay with the same WAS (session affinity).

    1. Save the database locally on server machine
    2. Create a new database on server and link the new database with the database on Network.
    Steps to link the database.
1.Create a new test database on server.
    2. Go to File --> Get External Data --> Link tables | Select the database on Network Drive.
    3. Select all the tables from the database.
    4. Save the Database  e.g. Test.mdb.
    5. Create an ODBC Connection on server machine, with the same name as on client machine using test.mdb database.
Note: Click on Advanced button, enter the default user id and password for the odbc connection, it is not mandatory to give Login Name and Password, only if the user id and password are given then we need to provide the same user id and password in the CMC database configuration.
    6. Create a report using this ODBC connection, and save the report to Enterprise.
