Failed User Launch Agents
New to Apple Support Community; sorry if posted in the wrong place or if done other dumb things...
Don't know really what i have done wrong, but after my iMac (20-inch, Mid 2007) with OS X 10.10.2 and 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM got rather slow, i used EtreCheck and removed a number of red-coloured UserLaunchAgents and things seem to get better.
With the following exceptions:
User Launch Agents: ℹ️
[failed] [email protected] [Click for details]
[failed] [email protected].plist [Click for details]
[failed] com.apple.SafariBookmarksSyncer.plist [Click for details]
Not sure what those items are doing, but i am under the impression that i'm going to need them to do better then shown.
Unfortunately i don't have a clue how to achieve this and would appreciate help

If any of you two has misgivings about my ideas, i would like to know.
I think it might be wise to save your money and plan on a replacement Mac. Even a low end Mac mini would out perform the iMac and Macbook. But it is not my job to spend your money.
If you can install Lion, it might be the better performance solution. Should not cost you anything except time, and extend the usefulness of your Macs for awhile.
If you really want to keep this hardware in service AND have newer software, then max'ing out the RAM and replacing the hard disk with an SSD is how you can get reasonable performance. But RAM and an SSD are going to add up to money that could be better put into a new Mac. And besides, "Real-Soon-Now" Apple is going to stop supporting those Mac models and then newer OS releases will not install on them.
Again, I do not want to spend your money.
(for your info: i'm still a noob, but the first computer i had to use for my work in 1968 was an IBM 360)
Gee that is even before my first computer (a PDP-8 in '71; well there was the Burroughs Computer in the University basement where I submitted my card desks, and a printout came back; the PDP-8 belonged to the University too, but at least I got to touch it; That lead to a job a UNIVAC where I got to touch the UNIVAC equivalent of the IBM 360).

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

After renaming my MAC hard drive, Acrobat, Illustrator and Bridge fail to launch. Acrobat returns the error message "An internal error occurred". I've checked this out and it seems related to user permissions. The version is Acrobat X. My machine has multiple user accounts. Any help would be appreciated. I renamed the drive to its original name but to no effect. RR
I resolved the issue.
The problem is indeed a permissions issue with the Adobe Application Support folder.
First, in MAC OS Lion the ~/Library/ folder is hidden by default. You must unhide it in order to proceed. (if it is already visible in your ~/User/ folder, proceed to Step 4.)
Next launch the Terminal application.
At the command line, paste the following command line: chflags nohidden ~/Library/
Go to /Users/youruserid/Library/Application Support/Adobe
Get info on the ~/Adobe folder and reset your permissions to read/write and apply to all enclosed folders
Problem solved. RR -
Exadata Discovery - Failed to launch process: Algorithm negotiation fail
Trying to discover an Exadata box. We’ve installed the latest EM (BP1) and deployed the agents successfully to the compute nodes. When we come to use the discovery wizard, it fails on the monitoring credential page. We input the cell root passwords and click test connection which fails with the error messages:
sxa1cel01 - Failed to launch process: Algorithm negotiation fail
sxa1cel02 - Failed to launch process: Algorithm negotiation fail
sxa1cel03 - Failed to launch process: Algorithm negotiation fail
Not much info available about this. Looking at the agent log just shows the same error message coupled with a Java error and not much else. Googling around, it seems it might be something to do with JSch.
Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.The root cause of this issue are additional security changes made in the latest Exadata release. Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c will be moving to this standard as well in an upcoming patchset.
Workaround to the problem:
The current workaround for existing installations is to add the ciphers listed in the step below back to the sshd_config files on all cells and compute nodes if the customer is running Exadata Storage Server version 11.2.3.1.0. The work around steps for this situation are listed below. For each storage cell and compute node, edit the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file as listed below:
1) ssh to the cell node as root
2) cd /etc/ssh/
3) back up sshd_config
4) add aes128-cbc,aes128-cbc,aes192-cbc,aes256-cbc,3des-cbc,blowfish-cbc to the Cipher line in sshd_config
5) Restart the ssh daemon (as the root user):
# service sshd restart

thanks a lot!Hi
First thing to check if windows is activated.
Secondly if the first option is valid then add the following registry keys:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Bootstrap] "BootstrapDir"="C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup Bootstrap\"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Bootstrap\Setup] "PatchLevel"="11.00.2100.60"
Then copy from the media / temp setup directory following files / folder into C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup Bootstrap\SQLServer2012
x64 folder, resources folder, setup.exe.
Change to x86 when necessary.
Hope this helps. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. -
How do you troubleshoot launch agents?
I work for an educational instution and have been tasked with writing a process that will map all of a users networkshares/homeshares when they login to their Mac's. One big sticking point we've had in the past is that all our shares are DFS based. What this meant for 10.6 is that instead of mapping things using the DFS path, we had to use the actual servername of where those shares were hosted. Because 10.7.4 now supports DFS there is a big push to start having an automated process handle this.
I've learned a lot from the process, but one of my problems is the launch agent.
So here is what I have currently:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>Label</key>
<string>com.domain.mapdrive.windowsshares</string>
<key>ProgramArguments</key>
<array>
<string>/bin/sh</string>
<string>-c</string>
<string>/bin/mkdir /Volumes/netlogon; /sbin/mount -o nobrowse -t smbfs //domain.edu/netlogon /Volumes/netlogon</string>
</array>
<key>RunAtLoad</key>
<true/>
</dict>
</plist>
Currently in terminal when I type the above commands it works fine:
/bin/mkdir /Volumes/netlogon
/sbin/mount -o nobrowse -t smbfs //domain.edu/netlogon /Volumes/netlogon
However, when I try to run the same command via the launch agent I get the following in Console at login:
com.domain.mapdrive.windowsshares: mount_smbfs: server rejected the connection: Authentication error
com.apple.launchd.peruser.2126486968: (com.domain.mapdrive.windowsshares[2876]) Exited with code: 77
I looked at the perms a bit and they were oginally:
computer:LaunchAgents user$ ls -l /Users/user/Library/LaunchAgents/com.domain.mapdrive.windowsshares.plist
-rw------- 1 user Domain\Domain Users 252 Jul 16 11:02 /Users/user/Library/LaunchAgents/com.domain.mapdrive.windowsshares.plist
It looks fine in the sense that the user owners the file. I tried modifying the perms a bit to be more like a script
computer:LaunchAgents user$ /bin/chmod 755
But still got the same error in terminal. My best guess is that the launch agent isnt running in the user's context, but I'm trying to figure out how to find what context it is running under to confirm or deny that. Any help?Why so testy? Luckily for you, I'm a forgiving fellow. I will give it one last try and then leave you alone.
You have a fundamental problem here. In order to access these shared resources, your users must authenticate. Windows authentication is designed to work with Active Directory. If your network isn't doing that, then you need to take it up with your IT department.
If your Active Directory isn't working properly, you can roll your own solution in any number of ways, but the users are always going to have to authenticate. You would have to use something like NFS to avoid that.
I suggest looking at your environment in both your normal login session and comparing that to the launchd environment. They are always different.
Here are a couple of support articles that may give you some pointers:

InDesign Buttons Fail to Launch
I'm struggling with InDesign buttons. I am attemping to hide an answer under one button, and reveal it by clicking on another following these steps.
I created the No. 1 as the button to click and reveal the response to the right of it.
I created a text box for the text to the right of the No. 1
Created the larger text box half hidden by the photo I have pulled to the left, which will be revealed when the 1 is clicked
Created the photo as a "cover" over the text box
Clicked on the single line of text, created a button with the characteristics
on release
normal
clicked the check box "hidden until triggered"
Clicked on the large text box and created a button with the following characteristics
on release
normal
clicked the check box "hidden until triggered"
Clicked on the 1 and created a button with the following characteristics:
on release
show or hide
single line of text
normal
on click
animation
created an animation to fly in from right
on click
on click
show or hide
large text box
click
Clicked on the photo and created a button with the following characteristics
on release
show or hide
large text box
normal
on click
animation
created animation for photo to fade out
click
When I preview the animation, the large text box never appears. I had the same problem to begin with, with the single line of text, and the fix was to change from flying in from the right to fade in.
I spend hours every time I start one of these "animations," and sometimes I find the choices I made changed after I left the menu; other times, I find it will work if I select a different animation; sometimes, I wait until the next day and start it all over. It's really frustrating. I have yet to get the "swoosh" animation to work. Has anyone encountered these same problems?
I'm a very new user, but I have watched every YouTube and read every tutorial I can find on these buttons. Nothing seems to be helping.
I appreciate any help you can give me!
Thanks.After trying successfully to uninstall and reinstall, the Adobe still fail to launch with the following error message: "Adobe has stopped working"
Microsoft Window 7 and adobe reader XI
Any suggestion? -
Appleworks fails to launch under Leopard
Appleworks 6.2.9 fails as soon as it begins to display recent documents. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Welcome to Apple Discussions
Whenever you do an update of the system software &/or AppleWorks, it's a good idea to do two maintenance tasks, one for the system (Repair Permissions) and one for AppleWorks (delete preferences).
To Repair permissions in 10.4.x, launch Disk Utility, found in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder, click on First Aid, then on Repair Permissions.
To delete AppleWorks' preference files, go to HD > Users > Library > Preferences & delete the file com.apple.appleworks.plist. Then, in this same Preferences folder, find and open the folder AppleWorks Preferences, then delete all of the enclosed files (except the Button Bar Preferences if you have customized the Button Bars). AppleWorks will recreate the preference files as it needs them.
Also, recent items are a problem all by themselves. It can make it appear that AppleWorks has frozen or failed to launch. The user tip by Dale Gillard, AppleWorks slow? Spinning ball appears?, explains a lot. -

Launch agent not running correctly in Yosemite
I have a launch Agent that up until upgrading to Yosemite worked fine. Now it will not correctly run the script that it attempts to run.
It would be great to get these folder actions up and running again.
This is what I found so far:-
The script works fine when run manually.
Checking Terminal I can see that the launchAgent is loaded, but then looking into the Console I see this message

Try making the two paths in the plist file absolute, that is remove the ~ (tide) and add the complete path and see if that clears the problem.

[SOLVED] TuxOnIce: failed to launch userspace program.
I'm giving TuxOnIce a try as I've only heard good things about it, however there's something not working for me right now.
To do so I'm using a custom kernel right now with this configuration for it:
CONFIG_TOI_CRYPTO=y
CONFIG_TOI_USERUI=y
CONFIG_TOI_USERUI_DEFAULT_PATH="/usr/sbin/tuxoniceui_text"
# CONFIG_TOI_KEEP_IMAGE is not set
CONFIG_TOI_REPLACE_SWSUSP=y
# CONFIG_TOI_IGNORE_LATE_INITCALL is not set
CONFIG_TOI_DEFAULT_WAIT=25
CONFIG_TOI_DEFAULT_EXTRA_PAGES_ALLOWANCE=2000
CONFIG_TOI_CHECKSUM=y
CONFIG_TOI=y
Also, I have /boot in a separate partition, and as I have statically compiled the filesystem drivers I need I have disabled the initramfs functionality; the package tuxonice-userui from the AUR is installed.
To be able to resume once hibernated, I have modified the rc.sysinit script with this:
if [ -f /sys/power/tuxonice/do_resume ]; then
echo 1 > /sys/power/tuxonice/do_resume
fi
Right after stating the mini logger (the TOI how-to page tells to do so after mounting /proc and before mounting the filesystems).
The "problem" I'm facing now is that, when resuming I see a text saying that failed to launch the userspace program (and it's path, which is the same as I input in the kernel config), but it resumes "correctly" [1] and even shows the text interface (only late).
Has anyone come across this or know how to fix it?
Thank you very much for your time.
[1]: I have tried hibernating and resuming from ttys and sometimes after I resume I see a segmentation fault note in the console like this:
[user@machine ~]$ sudo hibernate
Segmentation fault
[user@machine ~]$
EDIT: In the end I re-enabled the support for initramfs and copied the userspace program to it.

Command that Works in Terminal Not Running as Launch Agent
Trying to run the following command as a Launch Agent (OS X 10.7):
/usr/bin/find /Users/username/Documents/Dropbox/Public -type f -mtime +2 -print0 | xargs -0 rm -r
Created a plist file (reproduced below) and saved to ~/Library/Launch Agents, but the command isn't executed either at the specified time or when the agent is loaded via launchctl.
If I change the command to a simple Applescript test:
osascript -e 'tell Application "Finder" to display dialog "hello"'
It runs correctly as a launch agent when loaded and as the specified time
Which means there's something wrong with the first command (find). But the command runs as written when executed manually in the terminal.
Suggestions? Thanks.

Hello all,I am having some issues with APP-V 5.
I am having particular issues with starting a packaged SIMS.net. I keep recieving:
"Application Failed to Launch. This may be due to a network failure 0x0FD01B25-0000007B"
...within a second or two of clicking on the app-v created shortcut for this software.
To clarify, I had this software working perfectly previously. I recreated this package due to a software update, but it fails to launch now. I started a new package from scratch as this is a complex piece of software with multiple installers to run etc.
To be honest, I keep seeing this error on other applications. At one point, nearly every published app returned the same error. I spent a day trying to diagnose but the following day, everything mysteriously started working again.
I have had a look on kirks blog & Tim Magan, but to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is a 'business critical application' (as they say).
Quick overview of my setup:
- Single Server configuration (Management, Publishing & SQL) on Server 2012 VM in 2012 Hyper-V
- Win 2000 Domain with 2003 DC
- Windows 7 Enterprise SP1
- SIMS.net Summer 2013 sequenced on 32bit following best practice guide
- Deploying to 32 bit machine
- Client settings pushed by GPO. Powershell execution policy set to allsigned.RESOLVED: This error is caused by the "Program Files" missing from the "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\" folder.
Firstly, a big thank you Nicke. You may not have solved the problem, but you sent me down the road to resolve this issue.
After trying the step you mentioned, I placed the computer in an OU with inheritance disabled. From this point onwards, I deduced that it was actually a group policy issue.
In my environment, I redirect start menus to generated start menu. This is created using a powershell script to combine locally installed items and network items. This scripts deletes the content of the 'programdata' start menu (i.e all users start menu)
to prevent these items disrupting the start menu.
Now... The app-v packages were breaking because, the 'Start Menu > Programs' folder did not exist. If an empty 'Start Menu > Programs' exists, the packages work correctly.
I can only assume that the two packages that were working correctly - that I installed these for 'current user only', rather than 'all users'.
It seems a little silly to me that app-v should fall over for something so simple. However, you could argue that it serves me right for playing about with system files :)
Thanks again for the help.
Mark
