Family Share question

i I have sent two invites to my children and it says safari can not open invite bc it is an invalid address, not sure what to do.  Also currently we use one account am I understanding correct that I will need to set them both up Apple ID's to use family share? Lastly I do not own a credit care ia there a way to set up an account for a child under 13 with my debit or any other way?
Thank you!

1. Yes, you need to use separate accounts.
2. The only way to set up an Apple ID for someone under 13 is using a credit card.

  • Family Share question I invited, they received, but there was no place to accept or deny, what do I do now?

I Have an Ipad, I am the organizer for Family Share.  i invited someone (MacAir) and he received the invite but there was no place to accept or deny.
this is for icloud and both of us were signed in.  What do I do niw?

    Hey stupefied,
Thanks for the question. The following resource outlines how to accept and join a Family Sharing request on OS X:
Start or join a family group using Family Sharing - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-is/HT201088
    Join a family group
You can accept or decline an invitation to join a family from you iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac. If the invitation is sent to your email address, you can also respond right from your email. To accept an invitation in iOS 8, go to Settings > iCloud > Invitations. In OS X Yosemite, choose Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud > Manage Family.  Then follow the onscreen instructions.

  • Family Share - A CRUEL 365-day lockout, REALLY?

I bought my wife a new 128 GB iPad mini 3 on December 15th at Best Buy, I had been saving for this iPad for some time, and Lori had wanted the new iPad mini 3. Both my wife and I have bought multiple iPods over the years, use them, abuse them, and they just keep on playing through the abuse. We have brought 6 iPod of various generations through the years.  I was so impressed with her iPad 3, I decided to buy myself a 4th Gen iPad.  So Lori and I now both have iPads.
Lori has had her iTunes account for years, and she has bought a ton of music through her account, and we shared that music, with multiple iPod devices over the years.  It worked out great.  In the last two years Lori has been buying more TV Shows, and currently she has bought about 10 movies, so we watch the TV shows and Movies on our Windows Computers.
But now that both of us have iPads, well we wanted to setup family sharing.  I had been hearing and semi-following all of the trouble that Apple was experiencing since the roll out of Family Sharing.  I gained this awareness of the problems by reading many editorials and articles by seasoned Apple device owners in various online blogs and some major editorial sources.  So I was a little leery of jumping into Family Sharing, but I read the process and I thought let’s give it a go. So a few days ago, I decided to print the Family Sharing Technical How-To Articles from the Apple Support web site.  I read them multiple times and attempted to accomplish the feat.  Well it turned out to be a feat a feat which is now impossible to resolve for us apparently.
I thought I understood the process, but ultimately I got confused with the whole process, although the first time I set Family Share up I had actually done it correctly but for whatever reason, it still would not allow us to share.
Bottom line I left Lori's family group, and I recall thinking to myself, maybe I need to setup myself as the Organizer thinking that this might be the way to get our sharing activated.  Well I would find out later this was not the correct approach and may have sunk my ship.
So I decide to ask for help, I opened a case with Apple Support on Friday February 13th, 2015.  I still don’t know what the problem is at this point, all that I know is that I cannot get Family Sharing to work.  So I tell the Apple Support Representative what is going on and the Rep asks me impatiently at this point as if he needs to be somewhere else.  Quote: "Why do you want to enable family sharing", (I thought REALLY)...... OKAY I admit the question just baffled me.  So I said slowly…...because I want my wife and I to be able to share content back and forth with each other, I have come from a Windows world, and I told him my wife and I plan on migrating to Apple computers.  So we figured we would get this whole family sharing thing all setup.  I tell the Apple Support Rep that Lori my wife has a great deal of existing content, purchased as in Music, TV Shows, Movies, and iBooks. She has a lot of content, and I want access to it.
What THE APPLE REP said to me next blew me away.  You have left Family Share twice, and the rules state you will not be able to enable Family Share for 365 days on the device where this occurred. (End of Story) mine!
I was not going to accept this, I wanted to have them explain the rationale for this customer service nightmare He says I don't know if we can do anything for you, but I will send it the a Tier 2 representative, and see what they say, he then says, but since it is 3:30 on a Friday afternoon, everybody is starting to leave so I am not optimistic that anybody is going to call you back today, as we are all leaving.  Then the young man stated the best we can do at this point is to talk with you on Monday. So I accepted this, I made certain he had my correct cell number and although frustrated, I waited till Monday.
So when Monday February 16, 2015 rolls around, and I hang by the phone all day, no contact at all.  So I start searching the Apple Support Web Site, to see what now, how do I proceed, well I was given a case ID so that was good, at least everything we had done will be saved in the CASE ID:  748510224
Well not so fast, it turns out that rather than try and call me back the Support Representative just up and closed my case.  An email was sent to me wanting me to give them a rating of how great the service was. (NOT)
So there was no attempt to bring resolution and try to come to some satisfactory solution.
Bottom line I am stuck with the inability to Share these beautiful brand new devices two brand new iPads that I paid at close to a grand.  Apparently I cannot even set Family Sharing up with these devices, well least wise not for another year.
The events over the last several days and my experience with Apple Support have given me pause regarding Apples. It’s a huge disappointment.
I still want to move to a MacBook Pro, and my wife still wants to get her iMac with Retina Display.
My singular Question:  Is this how this must end? With us waiting for a whole year to get Family Sharing operational? This because I left my Family share twice on my iPad device.

That's better than the response I received. The supervisor with whom I spoke earlier today told me flat out there's nothing they can do, and I just have to wait a year.
I do hope they're looking at a solution for those of us who were just playing around with the feature to see how it works. I understand the rationale, but considering that there was no warning that the account would be locked out, that "solution" is uncharacteristic of Apple and simply unacceptable.

  • My family shares an apple id so we can share music, etc.  With the update, we are all getting texts from each other, etc!  How do we fix that?

Our family shares an apple id.  How do we have separate names for separate users?

    Hello cmdenham97
The question I have is how are using your Apple ID on both of the iPhones. If it is just for purchases, then you can just have that Apple ID for purchases and then have separate accounts for iCloud to sync that data. Check out the article below for more information.

  • Family share and deleting contacts

Can I delete a contact from my Apple ID on family share and not affect other people's Apple ID contacts? Example, two people on family share have the same contact, but 1 wants to delete the contact and the other does not.

    Hi courtneyfromsan francisco,
I understand that you have some questions about Family Sharing and your contacts. According to the information in the following article, Family Sharing does not connect to Contacts, and any changes you make to your Contacts will only be affected on machines signed in with your iCloud account:

  • How do I MERGE the purchases of two iTunes accounts into one Family Share?

We have purchased many apps via two iTunes accounts.  How do we merge these purchases into on Family Share account

    Hi MacHead2010,
I am not quite sure exactly what you mean by your question. It is not possible to merge two iTunes Store accounts. See this article for reference -
Frequently asked questions about Apple ID - Apple Support
Using Family Sharing, however, does allow all members of a Family Sharing group to use the content such as music, apps, etc on each other's devices.
See this article for how to set up Family Sharing -

This article will tell you what content can be shared -

  • How do I set up family share for 2 iPhones 2 iPads 2 iPods and 1laptop?

My husband, son, and I cannot figure out how to set up family share. we have 7 devices between the 3 of us. we each have iTunes accounts, but we faked my sons birthday because he is 7. How can I set it up for all of us to share music,

  • How do you use family share when we all currently use the same Apple ID but different iCloud accounts?

our family is currently using all the same Apple ID so we don't have to purchase thing twice, but now I want to set up the family share. Do we all have to have our own Apple ID to set up the family share? We do all have separate iCloud's accounts, I'm not sure if that even makes a difference.

    Hello me1002,
That is a good question. Everyone will need their own Apple ID that is signed into iCloud and iTunes. When setting this up, someone will need to be the Organizer so whom ever it is will champion this. Then everyone else will need to sign in to each respective accounts and then the organizer will need to send out invites to join Family Sharing. If you get that all setup, remember that when making purchases from those Apple ID will belong to that specific Apple ID so if anyone leaves, others will not have access to that purchased content.

  • Change on family share plan without permission; customer service no help at all

    @VZWSupport
Posting this question here because I am having zero luck with *611 customer service and after 40 minutes on the phone with a rep I am ready to pay the early termination fee and leave Verizon after 15 years of being a customer.
I am part of a family share plan with five lines.  Someone else in the family used my phone upgrade last month (with my permission), and this apparently changed my plan (did not give permission to change plan) but I was not notified that the upgrade was used OR the plan was changed.
Ever since it was first available, I have had unlimited data and have always reupped my plan to keep that unlimited data feature.
Can't email customer service and chat is never available, so I get someone on the phone last week who says they'll request the upgrade back to unlimited and get back to me within 3-4 days.
No response, so I call again today.  This rep says that request was not processed, and after FORTY minutes, the outcome is:
    * Unlimited data is no longer available so even though my plan was changed without my consent, I lost my unlimited data which I have had for years (I knew it was no longer available, which is why I never let my service lapse, so I could KEEP it)
    * The 6GB / $30 consolation prize data package is also no longer available
    * No additional data can be added to my plan for the rest of the month, unless I completely change my plan, which will also change the plan on the other four lines that are part of the family share -- not doing that without anyone else's consent
    * The family member using my upgrade reset my contract so I'm stuck with this for another TWO full years
    * They can add a $30 credit to my bill for next month, just in case I do go over my data
This is the WORST customer service ever.  I mean, really.  Fifteen years of continuous patronage and this is how we are supported as customers?
I had been debating breaking my line off (and my husband's line) and going onto a new family share plan, just the two of us, and purchasing new phones as well, but frankly, I'm ready to pay the early termination fee and stop doing business with Verizon.  I've heard from various friends that after several years of being a customer with AT&T or Sprint, they receive the newest phones for free -- just out of the blue -- or some other amazing promotion for no reason other than being a valued customer.
Let's get this resolved via email, Verizon.  If I have to talk to another customer service rep on the phone, it's going to absolutely ruin my day.

    Thanks.  My main issues are:
I was not notified of the change in plan
I was not notified of the upgrade
My approval was never requested for the device upgrade
My approval was not requested for the change in MY plan
What I am having difficulty accepting here is that unlimited data is no longer "available."  I'm not trying to ADD or BUY unlimited data.  I'm not even trying to BUY the 6GB data consolation prize that apparently isn't available anymore.
My plan was changed without my consent.  My upgrade was applied to another line without notifying me.  I'm not trying to add a feature I didn't have before.  Doesn't customer service have a reset button?  A restore point?  I had this service two weeks ago; they changed it without my consent or notifying me; I want it BACK.  Not a new add.  An account restore to a point two weeks ago.  I don't see why this is such a difficult concept.
Not only that, my plan was reupped WITHOUT my consent, when the upgrade was applied to the other line on the account.  Now I'm stuck with this contract for two more years, and I did NOT agree to another two years.
They were more than happy to try and sell me two new phones and split our two lines off the family share plan, though.  MORE than happy.
Going to have to look into the cost of early termination and really thinking of just paying full price for a phone and going with something like Smart Talk or Virgin Mobile, unless the reps at the store do double backbends to help me out and hook me up after fifteen years of patronage.
I calculated the amount I've spent just on my line, not including my husband's 15-16 years of being a customer, and it's upward of $10,000.
Ten THOUSAND dollars and this is how they treat their customers... smh.
Thanks for the reply, @elector.  Appreciate it.

  • How do I get off a family share plan if I'm not the account owner?

how do I get off a family share plan if i'm not the account owner?

kydd33  Good question!  If you are looking to be removed from the family share plan, then the account owner would need to give you  (or the person looking to take over your line ) permission. This is known as an Assumption of Liability (AOL). I am assuming that you want to keep your Verizon phone number and are looking to remain a Verizon Wireless customer. If so, the age requirement is atleast 18. Also, the current account has to have a current balance. If another VZW customer is taking your line over then their account would need to have a current balance, as well.  To proceed, have the account owner call customer service and authorize that you can remove your line from their account. There is not a penalty or fee for the account owner.

  • Family share

Hello, i have an Ipad Air with iOs 8.1.1 and Family Share enabled. I am sharing apps with two other family members and i've no problems with it so far. My question is that i can only share the first episodes of Apps like The Walking Dead and Wolf Amogs Us. If a member of my family tries to download other episodes they are asked to pay for them. I've asked about this in Telltale forum (the developer of these apps) but they said it's not an issue related to them and i should ask Apple.
    Can anyone help?
    Regard.

  • Family share works on one phone but not the other

My husband and I used to share an Apple ID so we could get contacts and calendars on each others devices.  Photo library/sharing, calendar among other iCloud and Family Share opportunities to keep things separate yet some together seemed more practical.  We have two children coming to the age where we will be getting them phones, but now I question which is the best way to set this up.  His phone kept the original Apple ID and I created one for my phone.  My phone works wonderful with family share in regards to Find My Phone and calendar and sharing to his phone.  However his phone seems to have combined his ID with mine so when I change the family share photo of him, it changes my photo to the same one as his.  He can not see me on Find My Phone, but the calendar he can see just fine that I create on my phone and share.  He can share his location with me via txt msg, but I can not share mine with him. My iPhone 5 and iPad 3 seem to be connected ok with the exception of photo library not shared across the two and the ability to answer a call through the iPad.
Any ideas about what I am missing?

I Have similar concerns: my wife and me with ios7 shared an Apple ID in order to manage an unique contact list. Also we shared with our son the same Apple ID to access the iTunes store. But all of us used our own Apple ID to configure mail, calendars, FaceTime, iMessage and Friends App. Now, after updating to iOS 8 seems that the family option could be very useful to make order in our devices: everyone could configure its own device with its own Apple id. But it seems that it is not possible to share the contact list between different apple IDs among the same family. In the other hand, the application Friends now is associated to the icloud id, so if we decided to continue sharing the same ID, becomes impossible for my wife and me to know the location of each other Using the Friends App.
So, it could be very useful if Apple decided to let the possibility to share the contact list among users of the same family.
IS there another way to bypass our problem?

  • When will iTunes Match be a supported part of the IOS8 Family Share?

    Hello,
I was originally happy with the new Family Share capabilities of IOS8.  However, happiness turned to disappointment when I discovered that iTunes Match content CANNOT be shared amongst family members unless they are using the App Store ID where the iTunes Match subscription is based, defeating the the benefits of the Family Share.
My household consists of a Macbook Pro (OS X 10.9.5) with the iTunes (11.4.18) Library , 4 iPhones (2 x iPhone 6, 1 iPhone 5C, and 1 iPhone 4S all running IOS8) and 4 iPads (2 iPad Air and 2 iPad II all running IOS8).  Before the Family share, the IOS devices shared the iTunes match library where the users could select which songs they wanted to download, and purchases made by them could be added to the library.  Two of the 4 sets of devices are owned by my children, who are in their early teens.  Why is it stated that you can "share music" among family members when that capability actually seems very limited with this new Family Share setup.  Once the App Store ID is set to the Apple ID of the individual user, such as one of my children, the library and selections they originally had were removed and the option to turn iTunes Match on or off under Music Setup turned into "Subscribe to iTunes Match", which would cost each family member an additional $24.99 a year for a service that cost nothing for my other family members.
I realize there are ways to share music, such as having my Mac powered up with iTunes running, and the other devices selecting the library as a Share, seeing all music physically on the Mac and in the subscriber iTunes library.  Also, the other users can look at family purchases, select the subscriber to iTunes Match, and see "purchased" items.  However, that list is a subset of the overall library of over 6000 songs, which consists of CDs that were imported into iTunes.  One of my children uses the iPhone while she exercises and runs.  She will now lose the playlists she created with this new "Family Share", which does not have sharing of one of the biggest pool of items I wanted shared, or were shared before this new setup.
In short, is there any plan to give customers the benefits of the Family Share plan, and truly allow the sharing of one of the most shared resources in at least our family, the iTunes Match collection?  Another question is WHY is iTunes match not a supported part of the Family Share?
Thanks in advance for any insight that can be provided on this issue!

    John Finocchiaro

Others have asked this question as well.  If there is a plan to change this it hasn't been announced.  The best way to influence the decision is to provide your feedback to Apple here: https://www.apple.com/support/feedback/.  If enough people do, it's more likely to change.

  • Requested Verizon remove me from the Family Share Plan and They Refused.

Has anyone else had this problem?
The family share plan we currently have is a way to share data, minutes and usage for up to 5 phone numbers. Lately, it is causing a lot more stress and uncessary complication. I went in to try and upgrade my LG with a Smart Phone because I knew I was due for an upgrade, and the customer service representatives would not help me. We have a past due on our account of debt mostly from the other 4 phones on the account. My phone has used the least number of minutes and therefore, has charged the account the least.
I offered to pay my portion of the bill in order to upgrade my phone. They refused the offer, claiming that the entire account had to become current in order for me to upgrade.
Apparantly, I found out that another phone number on the account went in for the same reason a few weeks prior to me coming in to upgrade their phone. Verizon turned me away because the upgrade had already been used. The family member used my phones eligible upgrade for theirs. They were also able to perform successfully the same upgrade I wanted to do without any complication, within the same billing cycle - the account was past due when they went in to upgrade as well, and Verizon allowed them to upgrade.
In an effort to elimintate any future complication, I asked that I be removed from the account and transfer over to my own individual plan - keeping my same phone number. Verizon would not help me, claiming that the account owner had to authorize it.
When I asked the account owner if they would authorize the removal, they refused.
What do I do now if I do not want to pay the other 4 phones bill percentage, I want to get off the family shared plan and upgrade my phone?
