Family sharing on a pc and old ipod touch

When my children were young, I had them use my itunes account so I cold monitor their content. Now that my son is a teenager, I feel it is time for him to have his own itunes account. How can I shift his content to his new account without having to purchase it new? I had thought family sharing would work, but I have a pc and our ipod touch's are 4th generation and apparently will not support IOS 7 or 8. Help.

  • New hard drive and old ipod touch...I want my music back :{

My computer crashed 3 weeks ago ( I lost everything and had to install a new hard drive, so it's like a brand new computer) I read some instructions about this issue but I wasn't sure if i re download itunes and I am unsure what the steps are to get my itunes library back on my computer. Do I reinstall itunes? How do i sync my ipod to my computer? I just need plain old good help because I don't want tp lose everthing! Thanks! Also I am not the brightest with computer so please dumb it down for me...lol!!!

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just this reason.
Use your backup copy to put evefrything back on your computer.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy , not ggod, then you can transfer itunes purchases form an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases.
In some countries you can redownload some purchases:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • New hard drive and old ipod touch

My old hard drive died, and I've replace it. But now when I sync my itouch, I've transferred my downloaded purchased music, apps, etc. without a problem to manage on the new computer, but I don't have a clue how to sync or delete any of the itouch music which I transferred from CD's. Not a problem right now, but at some point I'm going to want to replace this music on my i-touch. Suggestions?

When you sync to the new computer it will first erase the content from the ipod, then replace with content from the computer.
Just use your backup copy to put all of the content on the new computer, then you can sync.

  • HT4972 how do you update an old ipod touch - io 2.2 version

How do you update and old ipod touch?.  It currently is operating with version 2.2.1 and can not connect to the internet.

You have either 1G or 2G iPod

A 2G to 4.2.1. Requires iTunes version 10.X. If a Mac it requires OSX 10.5.8 or later. With OSX 10.4.11 you can only go to iTunes 9.X which gets you as high as iOS 4.1

  • HT5622 My family shared an itunes account and now i'm moving out and have created a new account just for myself. Is there a way to transfer my previous purchases on the other account to my new account?

In order to continue to play and sync the music you purchased with your old account, you'll need to authorize your new computer/iTunes library to do so.  You can do this by choosing Store -> Authorize This Computer and then entering in your old account credentials.
That's all you should need to.  Then just create your own account and start purchasing and using it the same you have with the old one.

Are you sure you have a 4g/3g iPod?   If you don't have a camera, it's definitely not 4G.  If it has no camera and is 8 or 16 Gb it is a 2G and can't go beyond 4.2.1.

I saw a thread saying to purchase the newest software (that was posted a few years ago) I paid 4.95 for the software and it's still saying it can't be updated.  Am I just SOL??

The 1G iPod can only go as high as 3.1.3. The 1G does not have an internal speaker or volume buttons on the upper left edge.

  • I have an older Ipod Touch, I bought a new one and the Itunes on my computer is too old to recognize my new Ipod Touch and cannot be updated.  Is there a creditable software program I can use to get all my old music from my old iPod Touch to the new one?

I have an older iPod Touch, I bought a new one and the Itunes on my computer is too old to recognize my new iPod Touch and Itunes cannot be updated.  Is there a creditable software program I can use to get all my old music from my old iPod Touch to the new one?  It is my understanding that the music cannot be saved onto my new iTunes, b/c I did not have iCloud. I have over 2,000 songs I just cannot part with. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help some how!!  THANKS!

I had the same problem with my iPad, i couldn't get the newer version of itunes because the computer was too old and my iPad couldnt sync with the old itunes. I got a PC from school a few months later so that solved the problem for me. Unfortunately i don't think there would be a program to put your music on your iPod, iTunes should be the only way to transfer files to Apple devices. What operating system are you running and what version of it is it?

  • I had an old ipod touch. I got a new one. All of the music and apps are still on my account, but when I try to sync it the music and apps will not go on to my new ipod touch.

I had an old ipod touch. I got a new one. I still have all of the music and apps on  my itunes but I cannot sync it to my new ipod.

Are you sure you have iTunes set up to synch to your new iPod?  The reason I ask is that by default, iTunes will not automatically synch to a new device.  You have to go to the Apps tab and click Synch Apps, and do the same for Music, PodCasts, and so on....

  • I bought an old iPod touch It is 6.1.6, i would like to add a new icloud account but it can't let me. this iPod touch belonged to another person and i don't know where is he can you tell me please how to add a new icloud account??

The 4G/iOS 6 does not have an Activation Lock. That started with iOS 7.
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

  • I've got the old Ipod touch and i want to update it but i can't!

I've got the old ipod Touch and everytime i want to download something it will say i need an update!! Ive tried nearly everything don't know how to make it work

If you're trying to run an app that requires a newer version of iOS, you may be out of luck. A 1st-generation iPod touch can only run up through iOS 3.1.3, and the 2nd-generation model only up through iOS 4.2.1. If you have one of those models and are trying to run an app that requires iOS 4.3 or later, you will not be able to do so.

  • Syncing an old iPod Touch (1st Gen) and new iPad (3rd Gen)

I have an old iPod Touch (1st Generation) which runs iOS 3.1.3, the latest possible for the device. It is synced to my Windows desktop PC. However a lot of apps are not fully updated because the newer versions are no longer iOS 3 compatible.
I am getting an iPad (3rd Generation) on launch day next week and will obviously need to sync it to my PC with fully updated apps, however, I also want to keep using my iPod Touch will all its apps too.
Is it possible to have two sets of apps on iTunes on one PC, one for the old iPod Touch with its older apps and one with the new apps for the new iPad.
I update all the apps on the iPod Touch itself so I never update an app that is no longer compatible with iOS 3.0
The solution I've come up with at the moment is to copy the iTunes folder on to my laptop and use that for one of the devices and use the desktop for the other. But would like to use just one PC if possible.
    Can anyone advise?
    Thanks

It turns out that I took all the apps off my touch, but I have an iPhone 3 that hasn't been updated in at least six months.  There's got to be something on there that's incompatible with the current iOS architecture, but it's syncing as I type this with no problems.
You've got your iTunes copied to your laptop - why not use the original copy for a little snooping?  I think you'll find that everything works just fine.
BTW, there are several apps in the iTunes library on my desktop that are duplicated.  I never could figure out why, but my guess is that some of them are versions that will run on one handheld and not the other.
    Hope that helps.
    Mike

I have an old ipod touch which won't go past the Apple logo, all it does is show me a loading symbol, but will go no further, i have tried restoring it and i have been successful. It connects and is recognised by my itunes and computer, but still after restoring it, it just won't get passed the logo..what can i do? what is the problem?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
