Fantasy Game

hi. i am doing some exercise problems on this charlotte website.
http://chortle.ccsu.edu/java5/cs151java.html#13
Very good website for a newbie who wants to learn java. and hopefully i am confident That after working all the exercise problems and reading the chapters i will be good in java as a matter of fact i am doing very good. anyways i dont understand what the author is trying to ask in the question.
Q) In a new role-playing fantasy game players must design their character by picking a point value for each of three characteristics:
Strength, from 1 to 10
Health, from 1 to 10
Luck, from 1 to 10
Write a program that asks for a name for the character and asks for the point value of for each of the three characteristics. However, the total points must be less than 15. If the total exceeds 15, then 5 points are assigned to each characteristic
output :
Welcome to Yertle's Quest
Enter the name of your character:
Chortle
Enter strength (1-10):
8
Enter health (1-10):
4
Enter luck (1-10):
6
You have give your character too many points!  Default values have been assigned:
Chortle, strength: 5, health: 5, luck: 5p.s: (This user interface could get much more complicated. You might want to implement some of your own ideas.)
i know i need to use if and else statement. i need a variable by the name of total and set a condition that if total is greater than 15 then just print the output as you see above. but he dont say anything about the total < 15. do i need to just print the total for charlotte or what ?
i had my interview today for a software developer position. The employer ask me all kind of statements for loops methods and all that stuff which i was able to answer but then she ask me definition about (ENcapsulation, inheritance, java sql and java applet). i just had Java programming in my resume. Y the employer thought that i knew about java sql or java applet or java swing. That is totally wrong i was so pissed off. i did'nt knew what to say and i can assume that i will fail my interview but this ridiculous.

Why would you forget in the first place?True i guess i have not been writing programs in 2
years since i took all my majors computer classes
first and then all of those theory subjects now. and
we write all our programs in c++ but now recently
like 4 months ago i started reading about java i like
it. but most of the authors did not tell you what an
encapsulation is or inheritance they will tell you
about parameters boolean expression and all that
stuff but i knew i read in my programming language
class about encapsulation and inheritance. she could
have simply ask me OO Methadology? or OO design? grrr
anyways its over so now i have all the damn
definitions which is necessary for software developer
job. + y java sql y java applet? y java swing ? oh
and yes since she asked me all these sql, applet, and
swing she could have asked me about java networking,
3d grrr i am just pissed of that how an employer
think that if you know java u know j2ee or everything
in java. may be she was not that much qualified i
told her that it would be good if she can ask me more
about programming questions like array, vectors
rather than definitions and she said oh Thanks alot i
will forward your resume to my supervisor dont know
what that means but i am sure she will fail me. :(That's ok. "Maybe" they'll be needing those skills.
Java is really broad and all.
My First Job as a Java Developer, we were also given so much of a task ranging from (Swing, Applets, Networking, J2EE, J2ME).
But it doesn't look fair.
(As to Job Description is concerned)

  • Final Fantasy XV Demo with Type-0 HD

    Hello,
I preordered the PS3 version of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD and the day one edition of this game is supposed to come with the Final Fantasy XV demo. However, on the best buy website, it doesn't state whether this is the day one edition or not. Amazon clearly spells that out for you. I just wanted to confirm if these are the day one editions or not?
    Thanks

    Hi there smelrefai-
Cripes, how many more Final Fantasy games can they make?  All kidding aside, getting a demo for Final Fantasy XV may be worth the price of picking up Type-0 HD.
Regrettably, I don’t have any information as to whether the versions we will have will be the Day One versions.  However, in the past, we have had the Day One versions for a limited time as quantities lasted.  I would most likely recommend pre-ordering a copy to make sure you have the best chance at the Day One version should we have it available.
    I hope that this helps!

Comment by: liquidsunshine on Tue, 14 Apr 2009 03:07:28 +0000
Also, you might want to fix the line in the PKGBUILD that says:
    pkgdesc="upload files to the AUR"
since it's not really accurate. =)
Comment by: Xyne on Wed, 15 Apr 2009 04:51:31 +0000
You just don't know about the hidden options :P
Sorry about the md5sum change. I've been updating nearly everything at once (refactoring, adding man pages, changing my build and upload scripts, changing the site backend, etc) and I haven't reached a stable point yet. Thanks for letting me know about it.
The funny thing is that I'm so tired right now and bouncing back and forth between so many things that I only saw the pkgdesc at first. I thought this was aurploader (where the desc came from) and thought you meant it should be "upload pkgs to the AUR" instead of "files"... and ended up discovering that they've changed the AUR submit form so I had to update aurploader (and fix all my package categories).

missing dependency: fmodex .. or rather, it can't find its libs directory.
Doing LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/df_linux/libs dwarffortress fixed this problem.
But then another problem appears: It can't find the index file and says it must be in the data folder.
Running the game as root works.

Wooops.. the person I had test it must have had that installed. Can you elaborate on the second error? The tester didn't mention anything about it. I can't test it at the moment myself. I'll try to get another pkgrel out tonight though.

Well, Thats about all it says really.
I straced it and found that it tries to open data/index with READ-WRITE mode, but the file is owned by root and has only the READ right set.
After chowning it to root:games and setting it to chmod g+w it started. however, trying to create a world resulted in a segfault.
Doing chmod g+w on all files in data fixed it.

I get the same error like epsilom. I think the pkgbuild can currently not build an i686 package, but Ive no time to investigate/fix that at the moment..

    updated to 10.0.42.34.
also, i believe, I have fixed the error re: strip. a 32bit system is unable to recognize or strip a 64bit binary. This package technically should only be installed on a 64bit host.

You ought to read my last post under yours ;-)
The proper way of making the present PKGBUILD is that--> e.g. provides=("smplayer=${_latestver}") , since I inform pacman for the real version of the package.
And I'm actually having as depedency the "extra" mplayer.

    hi, about the smplayer.desktop file.
i think you should use the %f argument for the Exec line instead of %u
because it's not necessary to translate filenames into URLs on a unicode-able system like linux

Update: added a patch made by wantilles, that restores alsa as default audio output driver (now it is pulseaudio)

    The Patch doesn't work.

  • Console RPG "Command box"es?

Okay... I'm not quite sure how to explain this... basically, I'm looking for a class or at least some kind of methodology for creating little boxes inside a game window. The purpose I have in mind is similar to the way such boxes were used in, say, a Final Fantasy game (or nearly any other RPG with menu-driven battles)-- basically, one comes up for the command window, and more keep popping up as sub-menus, etc. Basically, I'm just trying to find some way so that I could throw those out like nothing with no more than like 1 line needed to create and draw one in the main loop (of course, I would have to have a bunch of lines of code in the class itself, but that's quite normal).
Incidentally, would this be the kind of thing referred to by the name "internal frame"? (Yeah, that's probably a bad question, but I'm just trying to figure this out.)
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Installing .deb package

I'd like to try out this new turn-based fantasy game called Age of Fear: The Undead King but they only provide a .deb file. How do I install this on Arch? If you tell me, I promise to make an AUR package for it!

Thanks for the tip, and its in our repos!  Im loving arch, downloading now to try it out.

  • Ps4 controls and trembling hands

hey I've some limitations like tremor. that is when your whole body is trembling and so i've issue with games like FPS with a keyboard and mouse. Now I like playing mmo's on the pc but still have issue due the keyboard and mouse controls. As example that my mouse is shaking when am stressed in a game. My question is how it goes if u play mmo games (I'm interested in destiny and ESO) with a ps4 controller if your hands are trembling. I'm thinking buying a ps4 but before that i wanna know how the hard the control curve is compared with a keyboard and mouse. PS. havn't played since some race games on the ps2 but never a mmo game. greetz

I can't offer much in the way of advice with regards to controller sensitively, but what do you think of turn based type games?
A bit random perhaps but if the tremors are very severe you would probably be ok with that kind of combat. Some of the final fantasy games, possibly the newer ones, and persona games would be ok.
Obviously strategy types but not what you asked for.
Depending on the severity you might struggle with destiny as it is rather fast paced, controller is not as sensitive as a mouse though.I think fallout 4 will have VATS which is a sort of turn based thingy that gives you more time.

  • Please test RPG :)

Hey, ive been working on this for few weeks and would like to have some suggestions from people as to what to change/add. I stole the main character's graphics and the music from someones Final Fantasy game on this forum... they will be changed when i figure out how to get different ones ;). Use arrow keys to move... theres not much you can do yet, but hey thats okay right?
    Thanks,
    CoW

I found the game a bit slow and the controls unresponsive (that's on a 1800 athlon/256ddr/geforce ti on winME), also the game ran in a little box in the top left corner of the screen, the screen problem could have something to do with setting the refresh rate with the display mode, I've had no luck using this on my computer at all even GAGE does the same thing, probably an winME problem.
The controls are very unresponsive though, if I tap left once the player will keep moving left for a few seconds, not very useful in this type of game IMO.
    Hope this helps.

  • The Best Older Games - Final Fantasy XI

I'm sure all of us can relate to this situation:
So your computer is a bit old. The gerbil inside is starting get a bit slow and long in whiskers, and so you've tallied your bills, your income, and your emergency fund. Then you've created a sixty-page Power Point presentation and presented it your your wife, complete with pie charts and graphs explaining exactly how and why you need a new computer.
It takes a few weeks, but she finally breaks down and agrees. Yes, you may go out and buy a new computer.
You are proud, and u unbeknown to her, you have carefully crafted your plans not to include just a computer, but the hottest, greatest machine in the face of the planet. It is of such superiority that you can classify it but under a single word.
'Sweet.' (with an emphasis on the 'e's)
You get your new machine and set it up. You install all your prerequisites and get ready for an awesome experiance. Except, your wife walks in, and she smiles so sweetly at you and states, 'as long as we have a new machine, you might as well go out and buy a new game, right?'
Naturally, you are suspicious. Yet, when the woman declares free-for-all on the budget, you're not going to argue. After all, you earned it, you should be able to spend it, right? Right? So you go back to the store and spend an hour deciding which game you want, and rush home with the fantastic grin that only gamers are capable of having.
    You're excited.
Your wife, however, is sitting at the computer.
"Why honey," she said, all smiles, "Look, my facebook runs faster. I can now farm my grapes in half the time!"
"Great!" You say, annoyed, "When are you going to be done?"
"Oh," she states, wearing a bigger smile then even you had just a moment ago, "It's so fast! Probably not long. I do have six accounts, through, and I wanted to play some Pogo, as well!"
So you sit, and wait, and sit and wait, and soon it becomes obvious what has happened. Your wife has declared YOUR computer as HERS. You attempt to reason with her, and she throws your earlier conversation back at you. Yeah, yeah, family computer. Yes, yes, equal sharing, we can't afford to buy a machine for just one person. Yes.. but when is it my turn?
Never, apparently. You finally give up and acknowledge the fact that your computer time will be those moments when she's at work, and your not, or she's out shopping, and you managed to weasel out of going.
So, you were all excited about PC playing, so your Playstation 3, your XBox 360 and your Wii just isn't going to cut it today. You set up your old machine, thinking - well, at least you can find a GOOD game. A really good game, that will play on this older, less capable machine.
    And thus.. you read this...
    Final Fantasy XI
Designed by Square Enix, the authors of all the Final Fantasy series, this is the first (but not the last) Final Fantasy that is MMORPG. Which means it's a game played with hundreds of thousands of other players.
Well, it least it was in it's most popular time. Today, you can expect about three thousand people per 'server'.
Final Fantasy XI was at one point #2 behind World of Warcraft, and for good reason. It's a richly engaging online world, who's graphics more then beat World of Warcraft and most other online games without thought - even new, and modern ones. Yet, it requires very little resources to run.
The download is intense, admittedly, but I can attest, having had all sorts of internet connections in the past, that even the slowest 'broadband' speed will suffice. There are even some that still play under dial-up, through, that's pretty rare these days (and not recommended).
The world is rich and engaging, it's really fun, and you can use your PS2 style USB controller with it natively, once enabled in the configuration window. All buttons have function and it really saves you keyboard time, since the game was also authored for the Playstation 2. (It was the first MMORPG console game).
There have been numerous patches released, and everyone in the world is friendly - I would know, I just rejoined!

  • Terrible lag when playing online games (Final Fantasy 14)

I live in the NYC area and regularly I have terrible lag issues. I play mostly Final Fantasy 14: ARR and especially after working hours (but not exclusive to) the game is **bleep** near unplayable. In dungeons, I'm often 10-15 seconds behind what is happening in real time and it's frustrating. My speed tests from various services and servers indicate I'm getting  what I should be which is around 75/75, but latency is absolutely terrible. Almost never when I ask people in my party if they're experiencing the same does anyone indicate that they are so i'm highly inclined to believe it's issues with Verizon's service.
I've gone as far as testing during the time I'm having issues by playing through my T-mobile 4G Wi-Fi hotspot on my phone and the game is seamless!!! And the mobile 4G signal sucks in my home!!!
I'm wondering if anyone is experiencing the same?
As it stands, Optimum isn't capable of the fiberoptic speeds, but it would be worth it to have a connection that doesn't suck. And as soon as I'm out of this awful contract that these greedy **bleep** lock you into, I'm considering going back to cable and it's "inferior" DOCSIS 3.

I am also having these issues.  Customer service keeps changing their story ("It's Square Enix's server, despite the traceroutes you gave us showing it's an intermediate node we're sending traffic through!"  "It's Alter.net!"  "It's Level 3's servers, not ours!"  "Have you tried using a VPN?")
I'm sorry Verizon but if you're telling your customers to use a VPN you have failed us.  Make figuring out this issue a priority or we will be looking elsewhere.  Gamers don't need fiber optic speed to be competitive, we just need a reliable connection.

  • What is your class preference? MMO Fantasy Style Games

There seems to be generally 4 or 5 different classes with variations for most RPG games.
    Warrior
    Thief
    Cleric
    MagicUser
    Variations of the above
Rangers (sometimes bundled into the warrior class
Druid (sometimes bundled into Cleric Class)
    Necromancers, Illusionists, etc...
    Acrobat's, saboteurs etc...
Personally I tend to gravitate more towards Rangers and Magic Users.  My current GW2 character is a simple tank with a big sword.  This is the first time in a long time I have dedicated a lot of time building a Warrior.

I tend to prefer the melee dps classes:
    ShadowKnight
    Thane
    Ret Pally
Lets see who can guess which games the first two classes are from?

  • Jittery (less than smooth) video with Final Fantasy XI

Is anyone else out there playing Final Fantasy XI?
My game play seems a little jittery.  Not quite as smooth as I'd expect it to be.  I I don't know that much about computer video, so i'll try my best to describe it.  it's almost like if you were watching a movie and it was only showing you every 4th or 5th frame, so the motion looks "jumpy" or "jittery".  when i go into menus during the game and have to use the mouse, i get the same thing, like the mouse pointer is kinda dragging behind where i am actually pointing the mouse.  I'm pretty sure my system specs should be able to handle this game no problem, but i'm not sure.  64MB is the recommended memory for this game, and they also recommend the Gforce cards.  would there be any problem with the Athlon 2400+ not being able to handle it?  i sure wouldn't think so.  is there anything i need to adjust to make this game run smoother?
    - kip
an edit/update...  the resolution i had the game set to play at was 1024, i bumped it down to 512 (there are no settings in between), and now the video and mouse action is much smoother, but i thought for sure my 64mb agp card could handle a game like this...  could it be a setting of some sort that i am missing?  i can play the game at 512, but of course the graphics suffer a lot at this lower resolution.

Please anyone who reads this and is considering a 5200 .. Dont.. they are unstable, they are slow, they are.. lol the list goes on... you can Kill an Oced 5200 with a standard ti4200.. i dont understand why MSI even MAKES these cards but, i guess they have to appease the market demand.. "does anyone really DEMAND to have a card that sucks??"
anyway .. without malice or forthought of intent i can only say buy 256-bit core chips or youll be sorry ..
PS I suppose it could look like im flaming a bit here but im not .. honest.. ive been using MSI Video for 3 yasuras now..
Its just after seeing all the posts and not having met one person who likes their 5200 {in life or online}   drives me to post this..
