Fanx running at max while charging

Hey everyone.
I have a mbp 15.4" 2.4ghz.
My fans reached 6000rpm yesterday while charging. This is the second time its done it. I think i onlhy had 5% battery before i charged.
is this normal?

My fans will rev quite high also when I start recharging, but they settle down after a few minutes. If yours keep running high through the whole charging cycle, there may be a problem.
Try resetting your SMC.

  • 4x NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT cards in a Mac Pro run below max supported speed

    Hi,
    We have 4 "identical" NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256MB cards in one Mac Pro (to support 8 DVI monitors for a Network Operations Center). One card came with the system, the other cards were purchased from Apple at the same time. This was a refurbished computer, so we didn't have the build-to-order option. I put identical in quotes because they seem to have different ROM revisions.
    The system mainly shows graphs on webpages and HP OpenView (via X11), so no heavy-duty gaming or refreshes.
    We have been running with 6 monitors for the past 4 months with the following monitors:
    - 1x 42" LCD with 1280x768, 32 bit color, DVI
    - 5x 22" LCD with 1680x1050, 60Hz, 32 bit color, DVI
    When I restart the system, at least one of the 22" monitors takes 5 or 10 minutes of flashing on then off (mostly off) before it finally syncs up and shows a constant image. The 42" LCD won't go to its native resolution (can't recall what that is right now), so have to go down to a less optional 1280x768. In the next day or so, I'll be connecting one more identical 22" LCD and then soon after another 42" monitor, but am wondering if they will work. Yesterday, I saw a post about firmware update for this video card (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/geforce7300gtfirmwareupdate.html). I also noticed that two of the cards have ROM Revision 3008 and two have 3011 ROM Revision of the cards (in System Profiler). I'm not sure yet if this firmware update increases the ROM Revision.
    Running the Expansion Slot Utility (/System/Library/CoreServices/) shows that my PCI Express profile is set to Two x8 Lane + Two x4 Lane slots. All slots say that they are running below maximum speed.
    The store.apple.com site still shows this configuration as a valid build-to-order, but I wonder if they do something different or extra.
    Does anyone else have experience with 4 of these video cards with this many monitors?
    Any experience with the Firmware Upgrade that I should know about?
    Thank for any insight!

    I notice that the flasher is connected to a card with ROM revision 3011, the later one.
    I noticed this too.
    now, to the slot profiles.
    you say;
    "The first one that I enter is the one to the right (looking from the back of the system)."
    so you mean that the mac is laying on its side and your in the back, and what you call 'slot 1' is to the right? is that correct?
    No, the system is upright, but the cards are horizontally seated. Pardon my ascii art, but here's the layout if I look from the back of the Mac Pro:
    | DVI DVI ---->> slot 4
    | DVI DVI ---->> slot 3
    | DVI DVI ---->> slot 2
    | DVI DVI ---->> slot 1
    So, there are two DVI ports on each card (which is in a slot). I'm not sure which lane is which.
    Either the left (as pictured) is lane 1, or the right (as pictured) is lane 2.
    i ask because i'm wondering if your reproducing the way the expansion slot utility is graphically portraying it. I'm pretty sure the utility is showing the slots as if the mac is upright and the person is looking into the side of it with the access panel off.
    Okay, sounds logical!
    if you say that you have two x4 lanes and two x8 lanes, then i'm deducing that your flasher is on an x4 lane, and as it is, one of your x8 lanes has only one lonely monitor on it.
    Probably correct.
    In my utility window, it is the fourth configuration, so you would have at the moment;
    slot4__x4__22" and 22"
    slot3__x4__42" and 22" flasher
    slot2__x8__22" and empty
    slot1__x8__22" and 22"
    I think that you have 2 and 3 reversed.
    i would suggest trying the third configuration thusly;
    slot4__x8__22" and 22"
    slot3__x1__22" and empty
    slot2__x8__42" and 22" flasher
    slot1__x8__22" and 22"
    in other words, check off the third configuration in the utility, then
    exchange the connections on the second and third cards, leaving the first and fourth cards be.
    Okay, will do.
    as far as running below max speed, i figure as long as your workload doesn't suffer, then its fine.
    Oh, and another question, does it always, always flash when you boot-up?
    Do you guys shut down the system every night?
    We rarely reboot it, and I'm not the only one that would see it reboot. This system is in a 24x7 Network Operations Center. I just know that rebooting takes a while for the monitor to come up all of the way.
    Thanks for all of your help and guidance so far!

  • Sync with iCloud while charging crashes WiFi

    When i try to sync to iCloud while charging my iPhone 5 my WiFi goes down, not the phone but the router. After restarting the router it works again. Syncing manually while running phone on battery and wifi everyting works fine. Anyone else got this problem? Discoverd this because phone hadn't made any nightly backups for two weeks. Thats when i installed iOS 8.

    Gee, why didn't I think of that?  For those that may be keeping track this is a dlink Dir-655 (ON LATEST FIRMWARE).
    I had no problems with my iPhone 5.  I have no problems with my iPhone 6 EXCEPT when I let the phone attempt a full iCloud backup.  I don't know what encryption or protocol this fires up but whatever it is it crashes the router.  I am hoping others with router crashing can benefit. The seemingly random crashing some have may be when the phone attempts a backup.
    Because i use I jumped phones and iOS versions at the same time I don't know for sure which is to blame but I suspect it is the iOS creating malformed packets. My router wont packet capture and I don't have $2000 for a wifi N capture adapter. So there is not much more troubleshooting I can do.
    MY Apple fanboy co-workers have airports and don't have iphone connectivity issues. so maybe routers do need to catch up with some wonky thing Apple is doing. I am not against buying a new router if I knew it would fix the issue but I don't have spare cash to spend right now just to make the attempt. If a new router doesn't help I will have spent money for nothing on a non-returnable item.

  • Does it harm the battery if we use the laptop while charging?

    If we use while charging, is the power required directly taken from the external supply or from the battery itself. Which is the safest way to use the laptop without drawing power from the battery?

    No harm is done. There is enough power from the adapter to run the laptop and charge the battery. There is hardware and software in place which prevents any problems. The laptop will not take power from the battery while the AC adapter is plugged in.

  • Help. Screen won't work while charging directly through a wall socket

    I need help. 3 months ago I bought an iPod Touch 5th Generation and was surprised it didn't have an adapter with it. So I've been charging through my pc since. Yesterday I bought a 10W USB Adapter and tried it out. It was charging but the thing is, when I started using the iPod while it was charging, the screen isn't that sensitive anymore. It would click on itself, sometimes it won't even work. I don't know what I should do. I spent a lot on this adapter I don't want it to be a waste. And also, would it be okay if I keep using this adapter, even if it means I can't use my ipod while charging, would it have any effect on my ipod in the long run? thanks so much guys in advance for your replies. Much appreciated.

  • Slow performance while charging

    I've recently installed a Pass & Seymour model TM8-USBWCC6 wall charger in my home. It provides two USB ports with 5VDC 2.1 amp charging ability. When connecting an iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s, performance on the phones greatly decreases. I have only tested with these two devices. I tend to use my iPhone while charging but I can't even do that anymore because of how slow it runs. Any thoughts as to what can be causing this? I am using an Apple lightning cable. The charging itself appears to be running fine with no errors.

    Try the SMC and PRAM resets again:

  • RMBP Heat Issues while charging

    Hello,
    When my 15" rMBP's charger is plugged in, I'm getting a sudden high rise of temperature.
    I have included images from Temperature Monitor below:
    Before:
    After 60s While Charging:
    I don't understand why my CPU cores are heating up so much (almost doubling in temperature) from just charging?
    Please advise?

    Having the lid closed while charging actually results in a LOWER temperature.
    And no, I'm not running any heavy processes or using discrete graphics.

  • IPhone 4s loses battery while charging?

         In the past week or week and a half, I noticed that my iPhone acutally loses battery while charging. I use my phone as an alarm clock so I plug it in overnight to be fully charged by the morning. I noticed it when I plugged it in one night at about 80%, I woke up and it was 20-30%. This has happened consistently every night since it started, not always to 20% but around 60% or slightly higher. I've tried charging to outlet I used, turning off my wifi overnight, taking the case off at night and closing all of my apps so there is nothing running in the background. I even turn my brightness all the way down. I have no idea what's wrong and nothing is able to fix it. My phone isn't new, it's about three years old (I got it a few months after the 4S came out originally). Is the phone just getting old and needs to be replaced or does it need to be sent back to Apple to be looked at or have the battery replaced?

    Charging the battery means doing work on the battery and does produce heat.  How much heat is the quesion.  Is your iPhone to hot to handle or is it just getting warm?  Warm is normal, and if you feel the charger it will also be warm while charging.
    If the iPhone is too hot to handle, that is not normal and should be checked out by an Apple tech at an Apple store genius bar.

  • MBA usage while charging

    is it a right way, when possible, to save battery, to use MBA while charging? j mean, in this way, MBA use the wall power instead of the battery power: right or wrong?

    You can keep the computer  plugged in while in use.
    Keep the computer plugged in whenever possible.
    If you keep the computer always plugged in, make sure that at least twice a month
    run it on battery until battery charge level drops to about 50-40%.
    Please don’t discharge the battery completely. Discharging battery completely will reduce battery health.

  • CPU crippled while charging battery!

    My battery died completely after a year of using my MacBook Pro with it always plugged in. *****, but OK. I kept running it, oblivious that it was running at only 900 MHz, instead of 2.2 GHz (because of the power cap when mac laptops run without battery).
    Now I'm aware of that design flaw.
    So I went to get a battery.
    Now my MacBook Pro is running at full speed running from the battery. But when I plug in the charger, it starts re-charging the battery.
    But according to CPU-Z, the cores run now at 900 MHz again, apparently because the power is being used to charge the battery, instead of running the laptop?
    Is this for real? Did Apple actually release a notebook computer that manages power like this?
    Please tell me there is an alternative to buying this new battery.
    Please someone tell me there is a 200W Magsafe adapter out there, for me to run my MacBook Pro at FULL speed, with no battery inside...
    And if not, at least tell me how to make it run at full speed while charging the battery.... =(

    TheNoize wrote:
    This is the first laptop I've ever seen, that relies on both battery and PSU to run the CPU at full frequency. Correct me if I'm wrong...?
    Since you asked...routine reliance, no. In this post, a user running both cores hard measured power consumption at ~40 W. The 85 W adapter provides plenty of juice.
    As Retired Engineer stated, the Mac OS dynamically adjusts the CPU speed to meed demand. This is about more than just battery life, although that's one main reason. Another is Energy Star compliance (Apple states, +"For starters, Apple offers superior power management right out of the box — every Mac we ship is ENERGY STAR 4.0 compliant, or better, as a standard feature."+). As stated in this kbase article, there are rare occurrences when the computer will draw more power than the battery provides, so as a precaution the CPU is throttled back when running on AC power with the battery removed. But, even when on AC with a battery installed, the CPU will be run at the speeds needed to meet demand, meaning less power drawn from the adapter, consistent with environmentally friendly operation.
    If you'd rather consume more power than needed, there are hacks that allow you to control your CPU speed, your fan speeds, etc., manually. I personally don't endorse using them, so I won't post links. Try Google.
    Also, be sure that whatever utility you're using to monitor CPU speed supports your hardware and software - I know that one of the monitors 'broke' with one of the incremental Leopard updates, and reported speeds lower than actual.

  • My Iphone 4 loses charge while charging.

    I have been having a couple different problems with my Iphone 4 lately I thought when I went to the Apple store yesterday it would be better. In some ways my Iphone is working better but for some reason when I charge my phone it slowly loses charge. It usually doesn't go below 90% but still why would it do this? Yesterday when I brought it in they redid the firmware saying it might be corrupted but it doesn't seem that has anything to do with the charging. I actually bought an entirely different cord thinking maybe mine was broken or something. So it's definitely not the cord considering the help I just got didn't make the problem any less prominent. My other problem was that my battery was draining like crazy whenever I didn't use it very much. I'd be working and check my phone on my break and it would be down to 40% or 30%! I charge my phone all night so I have no idea how it would lose so much battery. Since they re-installed the firmware im not sure if it will keep doing this or not but I will definitely go back if I keep having problems. The biggest thing is the charging issue, does anyone have any ideas?

    It is actually an Apple Ipad charger I'm using just bought a new one at the Apple store yesterday cause I thought my old Iphone 4 charger had someone wrong with it and was making it not charge correctly. They were both Apple ones I would never use a 3rd party one or a computer.
    I can check on email being the cause I did hear that can be some peoples problems with charging. Other then that I just put all my apps back on (when they did the firmware install I lost everything and had to put it all back on) since I did that I haven't actually used any apps to see how my phone would work. No facebook and no game center should be running. Also no exchange accounts just regular yahoo ones. So its either App Store or Email. What do you do to make your email not drain so much battery while charging?

  • Iphone 6 plus fingerprint is not working while charging

    My iphone 6 plus fingerprint scan is not working while charging. Is this normal?
    I tried my iphone 5s and it works just fine even while charging.

    I think I got an answer to my own question
    If you're using generic lightning cable (non-original lighting cable), the fingerprint scan doesn't work while charging.
    I just find it weird as my iphone 5s works even if i'm not using the original lightning cable though.

    I ordered a battery for my laptop because it said to replace battery soon.  How long can I let the new battery sit around as I wait for the old one to run out of more charge?  Will the new one become less effective if it sits around too long?

    How much capacity is remaining on your current battery?
    Check your power status
    From the  menu: Hold OPTION and click System Information... èHardware è Power
    Copy and Paste in your reply.
    The new battery will become less effective if you store it in a hot or humid environment. It should be stored at room temperature (22 C).
    Long term storage (6 months):
    Apple recommends that you store the battery with a 50% charge. If you store a battery when it’s fully discharged, it could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding any charge. Conversely, if you store it fully charged for an extended period of time, the battery may experience some loss of battery capacity, meaning it will have a shorter life.
