FAQ section

Is theree a FAQ section for this forum? I couldn't find one, but maybe I'm a rash man and didn't search properly. If there is none, there should be, taking in consideration how many question repeate themselfs here, since it seems that nobody is using the Search utility.
Of course, the question that arises is: will the people that need guiding read the FAQ section if they don't use the Search utility? Funny thing..
Mihai

Hi,
Some other projects had me tied up for awhile and now I'm back to creating my FAQ section.
I'd like to ask my original question...
I may simply set up a long list of questions with anchors to the answers on the same page. Has anyone else done this rather than use an external FAQ script?
Thanks,
John

  • Where is the FAQ section?

With the new setup of the forums, I have difficulty finding the FAQ section, as well as the Featured Discussion section.
Where have they gone and how can we retrieve them? There are a number of posts in older threads that specifically link to them or tell where to look for answers, but I can no longer find them. That invalidates answers given earlier.

Bill, try these links and notice the differences. You'll see what I mean

  • :gift; Sample of building a FAQ section using Flash 8

I solved to use Flash + XML to build a FAQ section yesterday,
with proper stylesheet applied and fully automatic "line jumping".
People who interests to work on the same thing may take it as
    reference. Enjoy!
    http://iawha.blogspot.com/2007/06/sample-of-building-faq-section-using.html#links

The short answer is you can't do that. Flash 8 is
ActionScript 2 while Flex 2 is ActionScript 3. When ActionScript 2
is loaded into the Flash Player it is put into a separate virtual
machine than the ActionScript 3 code. This is how the Flash Player
maintains backward compatability. There isn't a way for the AS3
code to reach in and tinker with the AS2 code and vice-versa.
But all is not lost. You can use LocalConnection to
communicate between the two virtual machines. Check my blog,
there's an article about doing that:
    Using
ActionScript 2 SWFs with Flex 2

  • Adding a "FAQ" section to the LabView forum

    Hi Molly,
Please have a quick look at this thread where we introduce the idea of a FAQ section.
    Regards,
    Ray

There is an exisitng FAQ at: labviewfaq.org
This is available for contribution from anyone. You are free to post a response or an update to any item listed. All posts are visible after they are approved by the moderating team but submission capabilities are free to all. I'm not trying to divert your attention from your current goals but want to let everyone know that there are other venues. Also, content posted falls under a creative commons license which assures that the materials remain open to the community. This is similer in fashion to what Wikipedia is trying to achieve.
Based on this link, NI can use user submitted material any way they chose. How does this protect the hard work of the contributors?

  • "FAQ" sticky post in General Device Section

    Ok . . . I got another "gooffy idea"
I've noticed a very clear pattern (trend) of certain questions getting posted on an almost daily basis by incoming new people.   It seems not a day goes by when the proverbial . . . "How do I get images from my phone to my computer or visa versa?" . . . "How do I activate a new phone or switch from one phone to another?" . . . "How do I appeal a decision that I think is unfair?", etc.
There's clearly a redundancy of the same questions piling up.   Personally, I think people should really just learn to scroll down some of the forum questions and usually they'd see the answer to a lot of these just several days ago or even hours ago in some cases.   Also, the use of the search box feature could find answers to those issues, as those are some of the tools I regularly use but I guess not everybody is into that.
Anyway, it might be a good idea to have some of these very general and common questions already addressed as a permanent "sticky" post at the top of the General Device section where most of them seem to initially appear.   It would really help a lot of new people get those "most asked" questions answered right up front.   As usual, not everybody will read it but a good number might and thus avoid the redundancy of the same general questions being asked and answered on a daily basis.
I realize we have a FAQ section but I'm proposing one specific to cell phones at the top of the General Device section.
    Ok . . . I'm ready to hear why this won't work "because" . . .
Message Edited by DarkCobra on 05-16-2009 08:46 AM

Yeah I saw that . . . ah, how do I gently put this . . . Well, it's a little thin?    I mean there's maybe a couple of items there but clearly practically ZERO activity there as well.
What I was suggesting was fielding some of the dozen or so top regular questions that are most often asked by newbees directly in the General Device section where pretty much all of them go.    I know they "should" go to where you pointed, but honestly . . . after seeing what is there (and I mean this as no slam to Moderator Jay who oversee's that)  . . . there really isn't a whole lot of the usual questions and answers listed there.
So I guess adding more questions and maybe moving that whole section to the top of the General Device section (where all the newbees seem to want to go) would be the best spot for that section.    As they say in real estate "location, location, location".    Yeah, there's a section but it looks like no one really goes there and it's a tad thin when they do .
I really hope I haven't offended anyone or overstepped anything.   Maybe it was a bad idea . . . I can pull this idea if it's best to do so.

  • I have tried all the steps you listed in your FAQ sextion on enabling and disabling cookies but I am still getting the error message "cookies not enabled" on certain websites. Now what do I do?

I have tried every step you have listed in your FAQ section for enabling and disabling cookies but I am still getting error messages "cookies not enabled" on certain websites? Why is this and what do I need to do to fix this?

I have STILL NOT received an answer to my question as of this date. I am VERY disappointed in Firefox support.

  • Where's the FAQs?

A previous thread kind of got off-track, so I'll start a new one.
    1. Can Encore get a FAQ section like Premiere?
If you go to the Premeire Pro forum (http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere), there is a big ol' "Frequently Asked Qustions" section at the top. It has 2 questions and a link to "See All FAQs"
When you go to the Encore forum (http://forums.adobe.com/community/encore), there is... nothing. But there is actually a FAQ page (http://forums.adobe.com/community/encore/encore_faq).
    2. Can we get a FAQ that says how to get all of the available content/templates into CS6?
I really had to search to find all of the templates that were available for Encore CS6 (OK, granted, my search would have been shorter had I paid closer attention to my post's responders , but still... the point it I shouldn't have had to look and write a post.
Given that a thread from May on the subject has 70,000+ views (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1006810?tstart=0), I'd say it's something that would qualify a very frequently asked question! Why is it not at the top of the forum as a FAQ (like Premiere has)?
Making the situation worse is that the template discussion only seems to pop up in the context of MISSING templates... as in when there are NO templates in the Encore Library.
In my case, there actually WERE templates - but only a handful. Initially, I just thought that Encore only included a few files under the assumption that since you're supposed a "Pro" user you should be building your own templates anyway. It was an accident that I discovered the "Additional Solution to the missing library problem" was a 1.7GB download with 100's of additional items!
I'd be happy to write such a post, but not sure what the protocol is....

Only mods can post in the FAQ.
    I suggest:
Title: Adding Library Content for Encore CS6
If you have no Encore library/styles content, or only a limited number of templates, see this page:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/library-functional-content-missing.html
If your library is empty, start with the instruction in the top part: "Solution: Install the CS6 Functional Content." This installs the basic library, but only includes templates; no extra buttons, backgrounds, etc.
If you have the limited templates, and want more templates and/or extra buttons, backgrounds, etc, go to the instructions at the bottom of the link above: "Additional solution: Install the Resource Central library content"
The same applies to Encore CS6 whether you are using the CS6 suite or using the CC versions of other programs. For information about Encore and CC, see this page:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/encore/kb/encore-cs6-installed-cc.html

  • Suggestion for additions and corrections to FAQ's

The FAQ forum will constantly evolve as issues are added and updated. Since the topics are read only other than to forum workers, we wanted to give users a special topic where they can add their suggestions for additions and corrections.
Please keep in mind that all forum workers are volunteers, they do this because they enjoy helping other users.

    Chris,
Like I said, Im relatively new to PhotoShop and PS forum. I have researched the PS manual, PS help topics and this forum. I am not an individual that would ask a question of hard-working volunteers about a subject that I have not already researched. And yes, I know and understand what FAQs are and how they are generally presented on the web.
Huh? The FAQ section is for administrators to add things to, not users. If you have a question, you ask in the main forum. If many people ask the same question, then the administrators add an entry to the FAQ.
Okay if this is true, how was I able to post a message? I wasnt aware that I couldnt post a FAQ suggestion to the FAQ suggestion Forum? Hmm, maybe I missed the
    small print on that one.
Look ... I do NOT want to create any hostility with you. You have given me some answers and I appreciate your comments. I will go back and "wade through" all of the forums to look for basic or frequent problems that may answer some frequent questions.
    Cheers!
    Dennis

  • Moderator: A FAQ for Windows Compatibility forum?

Would it be possible to do a FAQ section in the Windows Compatibility forum <http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=687>? Many of the same topics are being asked repeatedly and I feel a FAQ could address most of the similar topics.
I suggest the following as topics for the FAQs:
    1. Microsoft Office questions. These are not relevant to Mac and Windows compatibility and are more appropriately posted in Microsoft's discussion forums.
    2. Boot Camp questions should be directed to the Boot Camp forum and Parallels questions should be directed to <http://fourms.parallels.com>.
    3. The need for antivirus software for Windows when it is running on a Mac.
    4. A list of links detailing how to print from a Mac to a Windows-connected printer and vice versa.

    1 GHz Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thanks for your replies Ardian and Hardy! I'm glad to see at least the idea is supported by a few others. Maybe it will catch on.
What I find interesting is that the Windows Compatibility forum has become the dumping ground for all the "Windows" questions that don't seem to fit in the forums listed before it. You'll notice on the Forum Home page that it's at the end of the Windows Compatible Technology list. I'm sure folks are ruling out the more specific technologies such as iPod, iTunes, QuickTime, etc., and posting there when they don't know where else to post.
    Windows Compatible Technology
AirPort & AirPort Express for Windows
    Bonjour for Windows
    Boot Camp Public Beta
    iPod
    iTunes for Windows
    QuickTime for Windows
    Windows Compatibility
Even a general FAQ link below or to the right of the the section title would be a helpful guide for folks.
I'm frustrated that more than 50% of my questions seem to be telling first time posters why their questions aren't approrpriate for the forum and which forums they should be using.

  • Suggestion for APEX/HTMLDB FAQ

    Hi!
Have/would you consider searching this forum for the posts that are most referenced from other posts and pulling out the answers and examples and putting them into the FAQ? Of course you should give the credit to the folks who posted the answers! I have noticed that same questions get asked alot and often the answer is a reference to another forum posting or thread. These seem to be the best practice and most usefull answers. Also alot of very good technical info is found in these referenced threads.
Just an idea. What do the rest of you think about this?
    Dave Venus

    Hello,
I think it's a great idea. There is a FAQ section on the APEX wiki hosted on shellprompt.net.
    http://wiki.shellprompt.net/bin/view/Apex/FaqCategory
It might be a bit nicer to have it hosted there as it's a bit easier for the community to keep the information updated.

  • FAQ/StreamWork Integration Wiki

Please also checkout the information in the [StreamWork Integration API Wiki|http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/SWAPI/StreamWorkIntegrationAPI+Wiki] before asking questions.
To get started the Wiki will contain sections on each of the StreamWork APIs (Integration API, Feed API, Method API and OpenSocial API). For each of the APIs information on the architecture, a getting started section and a guided code sample will be provided.
If you already got a basic understanding and run into a question not answered please also check the [FAQ |http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/SWAPI/FAQ]section of the Wiki.

BI 4.0 FP3 is planned to be released for RampUp in H1 of this year (likely late Q1). When it does, the documentation for the SAP StreamWork integration that ships with it should be available here -- http://help.sap.com/boall_en/
In the meantime, there is a video of how the solution works here: http://youtu.be/jVo9epbGjUY
Also, I can give you a brief description of how it is set up:
First, the customer must deploy SAP StreamWork Enterprise Edition. This integration requires that there is an Organization set up along with the security features of the Enterprise Edition.
Then, the BusinessObjects administrator will set up the connection between their BI Platform and their StreamWork Organization using the Central Management Console and the Organization settings for StreamWork (Admin only). A new option has been created in the CMC to support this in the BI Platform.
Once this connection has been set up and the SAP StreamWork integration enabled, users will be able to access the features that are shown in the video above. These users must be part of the Enterprise Edition Organization.

  • FAQ Nominations for the Install Guide

So I'm feeling kinda malicious, and I want to create some more work for Dusty and Dennis.
Do you guys n' gals have any suggestions for additions to the FAQ section in the Installation Guide?  I'm looking for those questions that a lot of people have to ask during or soon after the installation phase.  Stuff that lends insight into the way Arch works and little "gotchas" that occur during the install for some people.
Check out the latest revision of the doc for examples.  Dennis has recently updated it.
    http://www.archlinux.org/~judd/arch-install-guide.html
Other non-FAQ related suggestions are welcome too.

How about mentioning that the AMD K6 line of processors are i586, and won't work with Arch. We could say "Intel Pentium2/Celeron or AMD Athlon/Duron or newer i686 processors." Come to think of it, does Transmeta Crusoe count as i686? We could mention that too.
I keep mentioning this here, but I would like the focus to shift to the quickinst script. We could write a simple installation document detailing the quickinst installation procedure, explaining the most common things to do before and after installing (such as cfdisk, mkreiserfs, mkswap, lilo / grub). We could give an example for each of these to get things working on a typical system, and giving links to printable man pages online for those who need it.
Perhaps I should start working on this document myself, and post it here. Documentors, please let me know if you're interested.
In honesty, I believe the quickinst script would be easier to document. Especially since most of the work will be done by the user with external (stable, already well documented) tools.
0.7 should definitely be moving towards setting up UDev by default. This should be reflected in the documentation.
I've got to get going, but I'll post here again soon

  • Pre order FAQ question

In the FAQ section i read this and was sorta confused, perhaps too much wine.
"Any data on your current phone (including data on your SIM card) will not be transferred to your new iPhone"
i can't imagine i am to take that literally?
are the os's that different that data will not transfer?

just do a backup on iTunes before plugging in your new iPhone. once the backup is complete, plug in your new iPhone and it will promt you to re-install your data over to your new iPhone.
