Oracle C Interface for Oracle XE beta

Hi All,
I'm not entirely sure if this is the proper place to post this, but I'll give it a go anyway.
I've managed to install the Oracle XE database on my Linux box, which was fairly simple and painless (Kudos to Todd). Now, I've managed to define a user, a table, the proper privileges and the proper connections I need.
Now, I would like to connect from my application into the XE via a C/C++ interface. I've downloaded the Programmers Guide (all 1570 pages of it) - I got a serious headache from it.
Can anyone please point me in a direction where I can find information about utilizing OCI in a productive manner, preferably with some sample code that an "Oracle" newbie can figure out?

Assigning multiple interfaces for Oracle API Gateway (OAG)

We are deploying Oracle API Gateway to throttle our incoming API requests. We would like to keep the incoming external API requests separate from the internal configuration management so that they go through different interfaces when accessing the OAG server. This is mainly for security reasons so that the external people won’t have access to the interface used by internal operations team to manage OAG. Based on your experience, is there any standard best practice to accomplish this? We were thinking to perhaps use two of the server’s network interfaces with different IPs, one for the incoming API requests and the other for the internal admin management of OAG. But not sure if this is the best way to do what we need. We are aware of OAG's capability to support two separate ports to handle this situation, but would like a more secure set-up that could completely eliminate external access to the OAG management done by the IT team.
Would appreciate any thoughts on best practices used regarding multiple interfaces for OAG set-up. Thank you. Oracle Marketing Cloud.

You are on the right track.
Here is how you can achieve this:
You can use multiple network interfaces on the UNIX machine and setup networking/routing in such a way that all external traffic comes on on one card and is routed internally via a different card.
Segregate difference types of services (i.e to be used by external clients vs internal apps) into difference different "Service Groups". Have each of these service groups listen on different port + NIC card (under Listeners, you can define a port to list to list on a specific network address and port instead of *).
Setup additional protection for services that will be accessed by external clients. Use "Threatening Content " filter to protect your services.
Setup 2 way SSL for the interface that will be called by external clients. Setup a DN based authorization check if you want to have both authentication and authorization.

I have an Oracle9i database with clients information that Id like to design an interface for and give access to the clients to login and see their preferences, see what's the status of their services and so on.
Whats the best way to go by this? I have experience in ASP, .Net and PHP.

Before invoke to OEM ( Oracle Enterprise Manager ) as is is described above. You have to do this:
1.- To login as root in a console
2.- apply this: xhost +127.0.0.1
3.- su - oracle
4.- apply this: xhost +127.0.0.1

On the Oracle XE BETA Trial License agreement

Hi all,
I've got a question concerning the Oracle XE BETA Trial license (I'm referring to the document behind the "License Agreement" link in the "links" pane on the right top of the database home page)
I understand that the Oracle XE Beta License grants permission to use the product for evaluation purposes. I also understand that the license is for a limited period of time (one month) only. The things I'm not really clear on are these:
1) the license states that "You may not use the Software for any commercial or production purpose". What exactly constitutes commercial usage? For example, if I were to provide some business service, and want to allow my customers to enter a restricted or otherwise inaccessible web site powered by Oracle XE, Is that commercial usage? After all, people have to pay before they can access the site altough they are not paying for the database - they are paying for my content.
Also, I though I understood from Tom's podcast that you can redistribute Oracle XE in an embedded form - Does this mean I can't charge money for my own product once I embed Oracle XE?
2) will the production version have the same limitations regarding commercial usage of the database? What about the limited period of time?
Any replies are greatly appreciated.

Found that the advice on similar questions is to install the language version of the desired language on top of the current version but I haven't found different language versions for 4 Beta, only 3.6.8.
Have also tried to change general.useragent.locale (about:config) to en-US but to no avial.

HP Data Protector interface for RMAN

Hello,
I would appreciate if someone can share the experience of using HP Data Protector (... earlier it was called OmniBack) with RMAN for backup and recovery
I want to know the benefits of using the data protector interface. The cost implications are really high and I am of the opinion to use RMAN to backup on a disk and using normal filesystem backup of HP Data protector to take the backups on tape
This kind of arrangement would essentially require the dba to go to RMAN to find out which all files are required to be restored, then use data protector to find out the tape that needs recall. Restore required files using DP and use RMAN for recovery
Would the interface really make some difference? And would it be a good decision to spend so much on the Dataprotector interface for RMAN?

I got here a setup that's like: HP DataProtector, PROD-DB, STANDBY-DB
Roughly, the PROD-DB is 350Gb.
I backup this via a standard HPDP filesystem backup (+-1hour to run) applied to the standby (Data Guard) database (shutdown at backup time).
I'm glad I got HPDP when I have to restore PROD-DB on TEST-DB.. 2 clicks and it's done.
Note that I don't use RMAN for that, it is somewhat not needed in this setup. What if some day i decide to use RMAN? I think that I'll use something kind of like what you propose. It allows you to:
. manage what/when to backup. For example, cron a TS1 backup at day 1, cron a TS2 backup at day 2, ... every day: filesystem backup/purge via HPDP.
. easily restore your DB provided your DBA knows some stuff about HPUX admin... (what if this is a HDD failure? how to fix EVAs? is this in a HP Cluster? ...?)
Anyway, to get back to your main question:
Would the interface really make some difference? Yes, of course. Nowadays lots of people don't like command line *sigh* and would be more attracted if it looks simpler (though it offers less possibilities). With an interface you'll certainly feel safe than via shell scripting.
And would it be a good decision to spend so much on the Dataprotector interface for RMAN?As for me, no. In the setup I explained at the beginning, I got many advantages over a RMAN backup, backed up via HPDP. First, it's simpler to manager: I just have to check my morning mail to see if the backup went OK. Then, I'm sure if I loose the main DB, I can switch to standby quickly (can't afford much downtime). This means that if all of this fails (uh oooh) I'll have to restore the tapes, and this will be the last thing I'd want to do because it'll take ages (+-3h for the whole thing).
In each of these steps I use a single tool.. reducing chair-computer interface error chances. Look how many different layers you'll get in your setup (4+).
This was my 2cents,

Of course, via RMAN, you don't backup empty space (compress), the recovery granularity is way better (blockrecover), etc. But the main question is: do you really need RMAN? If the answer is yes, then go on with the DP RMAN interface to easy your admin's life. If no, then just drop the idea.

User Interface for bulk loading images using interMedia

I would like to create an interface where users could bulk load images to a database. Has anyone created a web (or other) interface that would perhaps call a PL/SQL procedure or SQLloader?
Is there a way for users to upload images from there own computers in bulk? Would they need to utilize SQLPLUS?
While I have seen the examples and plan to create a web interface for uploading images one at a time, I have been requested to find a way for the users to upload images in bulk themselves (instead of them requesting us technical people to do it).

Problem to deploy to a WebService interface for ADF Business Components to Weblogic Server

Hi,
I'm trying to deploy a custom application ,in which i have exposed ADF Business Components through a WebService interface, to a standalone weblogic server.
Application Module is configured with a Service Interface for ordinary ViewObjects.
Now I want to create a EAR file of this application to deploy it on the weblogic server.
But I got an error while deploying it.The error i am getting is shown below.
ERROR: No Java EE modules detected in EAR archive. Deployment aborted. == (oracle.jdevimpl.deploy.ear.WeblogicAssembler)

As far as I know there is no interface for it.
Check if you can use EGO_ITEM_AML_PUB.Implement_AML_Changes.
If that does not work, you can do a straight insert into the MTL_MFG_PART_NUMBERS
The main columns are manufacturer_id , organization_id, inventory_item_id , and mfg_part_num.
Oracle validates only the first 3. And it does not allow duplicates of the first 4 columns.

User interface for updating/adding attributes in OID

I have not done the develop work in OAS10g (web, oid, +) though I have years experiences as DBA in OAS and Oracle database servers.
I need to develop a user interface for users to add or update the user's attributes such as sn, manager etc.
The IDM system is working in prod: OAS 10g r2, installed (upgraded to) with infrastructure and oid 10.1.4.3.
OID: user attributes have been loaded with: CN, UID, mail and etc.
The requirement
User interface: an app based Ohttp web 10g
I'd like the interface works like:
The user accessing the web interface, is prompted with UID and mail. if the user correctly fills the fields, then will be prompted with the attributes which user can add or update.
Because I have Not done any development in OAS (web, oid), I need know what skills I need to aquire. ANd how should I proceed?
I may know the skills would be Ohttp development and OID API (LDAP), but I need these be specific as much as possible.
Can any point the direction with examples and docs?

2) though the users as their own can access the oiddas, there are only limit of user info could be updated, which cannot serve the attributes we customized and loaded in OID.

SCM Inbound Interfaces for 11i

Is there any SCM Inbound Interface for 11i for external non-Oracle systems to place a requsition or purchase order? if so, what protocol does it use and is this protocol standard for a 11i install?
This interface would be from PeopleSoft 8.47 not currently setup up to use BPEL.

As I understand, you have to map incoming message to same message structure of outbound side and then send it to two different receivers.
If this is correct, then you need not perform two message mappings. You need to design the scenario like a normal scenario in Integration Repository. However, in Integration Directory, you would need additional configuration to have two receivers for same message. This would be as follows:
1. Business System for receiver
2. CC for receiver
3. One Receiver Determination with two receivers configured. However, no condition specified for them.
4. Two interface determinations, one for each receiver.
5. Receiver agreements.
This configuration should solve your problem.

Using default web interface for users

I wish to use the default web interface for my users, I do not have the time to develop a custom app. I wish to get rid of the group and and mount point folders.

CM SDK 9.0.4 (released very shortly) includes the "Web Starter Application". This is a J2EE Web Application with full MVC architecture and completely open source!
You may be able to obtain this application sooner from Oracle Consulting - it will work on the current CM SDK 9.0.3.
JSP and Tag Libraries make up the UI. The controller framework is similar to Jakarta Struts. It offers localization support, ADA compliance etc.
You can easily develop the application from JDeveloper and deploy to 9iAS.

Beta of ODT for VS 2008 Beta 2

I have installed Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2 on a machine and would like to have
a beta of ODT for VS 2008 Beta 2. The beta that is available today have an ODT for VS2003 and VS2005 but not VS2008 (beta 2)

When is it scheduled for release?
I'm only working with VS2005 and would like to learn and use Oracle tools...
ODP + ODT with 10g express (and later with 10g 2nd release).
Is it stable so I could start using it and be a beta tester?

HRMS database Interface for Timecard Data

I am new to working with the Oracle Apps database. I need to setup an interface to send time card data from a third party app into the HRMS system. The data I have consists of an Employee Identifier (Can be set to match the HRMS employee identifier), Payroll Cycle Date, Hours Classification (Regular, Overtime, Double Time, etc), and the number of hours for that classification.
What would be the best method/API for accomplishing this? I am aware of Data Pump, BEE, and direct API calls as ways to do this, but am unsure about which one is best/easiest to use. For APIs, which one would be best for me to use?
