Fast Lock

I would like to have fast locks as Win32's InterlockedIncrement().
Currently I am using the swap assembler instruction. Is this correct or do I need to add a kind of memory barrier?
I would rather like to use the atomic_add function family but it doesn't seem to be available for user programs.
Does any have a suggestion in order to have fast locks?

One thread is enough however
Try performing a system repair using PC Companion as this will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone and erase all data so best to backup before you begin
Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process
If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

  • Surprisingly fast locking of single thread

    The question in this thread
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1080275?tstart=0
    was correctly answered within two minutes by Bill, and his answer was marked as correct and the thread locked, probably shortly after Bill's posting.
    What I find susprising is that the Reader forum has hundreds of similar questions and answers (see Pat's complain here http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1079699?tstart=0) , but only a handful of them are marked as Answered. And, without checking, I would say that (almost) none of these threads have been locked.
    Bill, was that you?

    Locking dead-ended threads is one tool we can use to maintain an effective customer experience. Experts on the forum tend to ignore answered questions precisely because they're answered, so thread-hijackers have much less chance of getting help compared to when they post a new question. As Bill and John have said, if someone searches the forums for a keyword and hits one of the threads that were started in the wrong place we absolutely do not want them replying to it.
    Locks are applied for three basic reasons:
    The thread is in the wrong place and couldn't be moved due to lack of information (outright duplicate posts are removed when they're noticed - please report any you find).
    The thread has deviated from the original topic or has violated the Guidelines (e.g. it's descended into a slanging match).
    The post is for information only (e.g. FAQ pages).
    If there is an active and pertinent conversation within a thread it won't be locked, even if a Correct reply has been selected, but there are some threads which are so old or so trivial there's no reason anyone should reply to them. These forums are used for internal reporting and it assists with that process to have a number of similar-but-separate questions in the database as opposed to one thread with several conversations crossing each other.
    There are some forums which are read-only, e.g.  legacy or beta versions of software, but there will always be a new and open forum for current issues if the product still exists.
    Current policy is for hosts to assign a Correct status to answers as and when they are identified, allowing time for the OP to make the decision first. Historically we didn't do this so there are hundreds of thousands of old threads which are 'answered' but not marked as such. It's a very long process to go through and retag them - and there's little benefit from doing so.

    for lock, you can use swap, or cas.
    if you are just doing addition, i would suggest you look at http://lxr.mozilla.org/seamonkey/source/nsprpub/pr/src/md/unix/os_SunOS_ultrasparc.s

  • No auto-connect on start-up or restart (iMac)

    Just an update on my problem. I too had problems with auto-connect to my network router after sleep, due to download of update 10.7.3. Worked with Apple Tech Support and local Apple Store to resolve problem - Tech Support representative and FAQ contributors alerted me to the availability of latest WIFI Update, which I downloaded and installed. Update DID resolve auto-connect problem for my system's "awake-from-sleep" mode, BUT it then began a SPORADIC no-connect problem upon startup and restart. I've reported this problem to the Tech Support representative, and she said she would alert the appropriate system teams of this problem.
    I'm no software expert, but I believe the problem may be tied, in some way, to that part of the OS that triggers not only network card drivers, but also Bluetooth connectivity, clock activation, and any other sub-system icon displayed in the upper-right corner of the desktop. While I can manually connect to the network, and have the connection work without dropping, it will NOT connect automatically - sometimes - upon startup and restart. It WILL work automatically upon awaking from sleep. It tries to find the network signal during startup/restart, but doesn't always connect.
    I'm thinking that if it was the drivers, themselves, for the network card that were, in some way, corrupt or incorrect, the system wouldn't connect at all ... (???)
    Anyway, it's working a little better - but it's still not fully-operable; and I'm still looking for a permanent fix from Apple. I have a feeling that one of the reasons why Apple is bringing-out Mountain Lion so soon after Lion's advent is to possibly resolve some of the problems and "quirks" folks are having with Lion. I know I've experienced other little problems since upgrading to Lion that I'm simply living with, knowing that sooner or later, a fix will be forthcoming - either by patch, update, or a new OS ...
    - Chris

    Some additional input - Just received a call from "John", Apple Tech Support, asking me to do two things in an attempt to resolve my connectivity issues.
    (1) Upon start-up, wait a minute or two to see if the network finally locks-in automatically, vice manually selecting the network connection. There may be some "priorities" being addressed via the OS wrt/ Bluetooth connections for the keyboard and mouse, that may prevent a faster lock-on by the network components. He says this sometimes manifests itself upon start-up and occasionally on restarts for some systems. It may be that, for some system configurations, Bluetooth components experience some minor interference from telephone systems or routers placed adjacent to these component locations - and since these components have "priority", system-wise, it may further delay network connectivity as well.
    (2) Drag-out an old USB keyboard (and mouse), disable your Bluetooth access, and use them in place of the wireless keyboard and mouse to see if it results in a more-positive result for network connectivity upon start-up and restart.
    Naturally, I'll give it a try, and see how it works. Told John I'd let him and Josie (another Apple Tech Support representative) know how it's working in a couple of weeks.
    Really appreciated his call - very nice of him to follow-up. I'll let you-all know how it works ...

  • Positioning Server on 5800 Ovi Maps

    I keep getting the following message when using the new Ovi Maps Navigation - Connection to network positioning server required.  Costs may be incurred.  If I say no then I can continue and get the free navigation as advertised, but is there any way of stopping this message coming up?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    MENU -> Apps -> Location -> Positioning Server (turn to DISABLED)
    Settings -> Connectivity -> Destinations ->
    1. Remove the STREAMING profile permanently by deleting the setting from telco.
    2. In the INTERNET section remove all the telco settings.
    3. In the MULTIMEDIA section remove all the telco settings except the one applicable for you, as in my case my SIM card is 3G, so I just keep my CELCOM 3G MMS only and delete permanently the rest of it.
    4. In the WAP SERVICES section remove all the telco settings except the one applicable for you, as in my case my SIM card is 3G, so I just keep my CELCOM 3G WAP only and delete permanently the rest of it.
    Note: screenshot settings may vary from service providers, above is applicable for one of the Malaysian telco
    The reason you are deleting the unwanted settings is a special cause which you will overcome the credit drain issue.

    Nokia OVI Maps Online & Offline Map Searching Issue
    1. Setup your WiFi setting.
    2. Verify the WiFi functionality (browse some web page).
    3. Set the WiFi as 1st priority inside the destination (internet) setting.
    4. Set the WiFi as the default access point (for the internet).
    5. Delete the WAP / MMS / STREAMING settings and left the 3G Internet (as 2nd priority inside the internet setting).
    6. Edit the 3G internet setting and change the "password prompt" to YES.
    7. Load up the maps loader.
    8. Click on the delete maps from storage.
    9. Reload in the maps (at least the malaysia map must be selected).
    10. Load as well the voice guidance file.
    11. Wait for all the downloading and uploading finished.
    12. Run Location and disable the agps and network under positioning setting.
    13. Run the OVI maps.
    14. When the 3G internet prompt up select cancel (do not connect) (if it still pop up, suppose wont because we already disable A-GPS and network in Location setting).
    15. Go to setting and change the internet to online.
    16. Select appropiate voice guidance file.
    17. Go outside where more satelite can be search.
    18. Now go to my location and wait for the satelite to get a fix (might be take long since no agps)
    19. Make sure the red dot are "IN MALAYSIA".
    20. Change maps mode as SATELITE view to try the WiFi can download the satelite image (to ensure WiFi is working).
    21. Once confirm WiFi working switch back to maps view.
    22. Walk around and you will see the GPS is working already (since it already lock, red dot will turn SOLID RED and satellite bar should be green).
    The most useful for the 3G internet password prompt when agps and network positioning enable:
    1. Select YES during the password prompt you will have A-GPS (fast lock with charges).
    2. Select CANCEL during the password prompt you will have full I-GPS (slow lock but FOC).
    Steps 18 and 19 are needed because sometime during the first time OVI maps run it will set it "previous' location as some where maybe not within Malaysia and if this happen and you dont have those location maps downloaded in the database then it will direct download from the internet and who know which access point it gonna use (if it use 3G internet then you will lost lots of phone credits for those huge maps data), confirm this if you dont have the maps data install it will direct download the file.
    Below is a screenshot shows, full OFFLINE guide, see the GPS INTERNET connection is striked out:
    Credits to my friend sklchan from Lowyat.NET - Malaysia's Tech Enthusiast Resource Community
    The method / settings above uses device to GPS satellite connection directyl, therefore please go outdoor for better coordinate locks.

  • GRAPHIC CARDS AND 10.6.4 PROBLEMS - MAKES CS5 CRASHING!

    Photoshop CS5 has crashed on me several times today and *my screen becoming extremely distorted and flickering very fast, locking up the Mac and not responding at all*, leaving me to reboot.
    I tried PS CS5 in 32-Bit mode, and it is still crashing.
    +That crash just started appearing with the delivery of MacOS 10.6.4+. (Acobe engineers found unknown crashes moving up the statistics and had engineers looking at them) It is related to OpenGL, and probably to a driver update delivered with 10.6.4.
    Adobe has found no problems with CS5 and this is a problem related to Apples 10.6.4
    This has been discussed with users and engineers at Adobe here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2957823#2957823
    We are working on a very important project with one of our main clients - and really needs this resolved asap! This is not just affecting gamers but creative professionals.
    Is there any news on this issue?
    Thank you very much,
    Kim

    A business that is using the latest OS, would also be taking risks, and would have been prudent and conservative, having multiple bootable backups to work with, and realize these things happen.
    Other than a brand new Mac that doesn't work with Leopard I can see having to have 10.6.3.
    As to how long since release to move production up from CS4 to CS5? well, people really detest the IT-minded for their "test, retest, and don't deploy until the testing is done" approach.
    I assume "graphic cards" and you have a Mac Pro 2009 w/ ATI 4870 or GTX 285, but your post was scant on that, and it is really helpful to have a more complete .sig with hardware profile to see.
    There is a patch from Nvidia for GTX 285. You should be able to roll-back to 10.6.3.

  • Cant receive email since Inbox was overloaded with 100's of emails

    A few days ago I received over a 100 spam emails onto my ipad 2 (my website had been hacked by a computer and was generated spam emails, we've since stopped it) and the ipad couldnt download them all at once, they were coming in so fast locking up the screen---the ipad could not think fast enough and deleting them one by one became very slow. Thinking my ipad memory was overloaded with emails, I deleted all these bogus smam emails from the inbox then also deleted the trash can. i owned the ipad since almost a year and have never deleted the trash can, I never thought to do it.
    Since then my ipad is not fetching the emails that are going onto my PC.
    PC--Outlook 2003 is receiving emails off the server even when I have the program closed. I took the habit of closing it down each time I walk away from it so that I can get my emails onto my ipad in the rest of the house. But since a few days even when I close outlook, the emails are downloading becuase I can hear the ping sound for incoming mail, from elsewhere in the house. I cant figure out why, when I close down outlook, it is still functioning.
    I powered down my ipad, that didnt work.
    Is it my ipad or is it my PC that is interfering with the emails downloading onto my ipad?
    Should I reset my email account on my ipad?
    Should I reset my settings and how do I do that as there are about 7 reset choices?
    Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
    my ipad 2 is less than a year old. I do not know what operating system it has.

    Hi,
    Reset was done already. I narrowed it down to my PC MS outlook program. When I shut down my PC the outlook program turned off, enabling new incoming emails to come to my iPad. Thanks Problem solved.

  • Accessing maps offline

    Could someone please explain all the little details to accessing maps offline like, what positioning methods you have to use, etc. Thanks because its frustrating. Oh, I have E5
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    There are 2 separate things...
    First you have to set the Maps to OFFLINE by going in the Internet Option in the Maps Settings / Options..This will now use the already installed Maps Data. If the Maps are set ONLINE, the latest Maps data gets downloaded continuously and the amount of data usage will be quite high..
    Other point to be set is under 'Positioning'.. Enabling ONLY the Integrated GPS Method will ensure that absolutely NO Data usage takes place. But you need to be in area open to sky..and to get the initial positioning (GPS Lock) it may take in excess of 30 minutes depending on the Topography of your location and the Weather. Area with tall buildings / trees and rainy / cloudy weather means a much longer wait. A-GPS will provide a much faster LOCK but will use a few KBs ( just about 10-20 KBs) of Data every time the application is launched.
    You may refer Pg. 86 to 102 of the User_Guide for further info. on Maps and Navigation ...

  • Firmware V12 Q?

    HI
    Right now my Nokia N95 is running on V11 and working fine. Isa there any reason why should I put V12 in my N95 - any good updates ?
    Thanks

    Hi
    I asked myself the same question and decided not to bother with the update. The reason being.
    My phone and so does yours seem to work very well on ver 11. I never had to turn the phone off because it froze.
    The GPS works fine and it locks on in about a minute which is fine with me.
    Would be nice to have faster lock with A-GPS but after reading some of the posts here ver 12 has more problems than fixes (A-GPS would be the only reason to update for me).
    I will wait for a few months until most of the bugs are fixed in ver 12.
    Before you update read as many posts as you can because some bugs and problems seem to be specific to some regions.

  • ConcurrentHashMap.putIfAbsent efficiency question

    Hi,
    I have a question for the putIfAbsent method of ConcurrentHashMap. according to API, this is atomic. so just consider the following two segments of code:
    ConcurrentHashMap<Key, Value> map;
    ReentrantLock lock;
    1.
    Object obj = new Object();
    Object oldObj = map.putIfAbsent(key, obj);
    if(oldObj!=null) obj = oldObj;
    2.
    lock.lock();
    try{
    Object obj = map.get(key);
    if(obj==null){
    obj = new Object();
    map.put(key, obj);
    } finally {
    lock.unlock();
    I am new to the concurrent package and thus don't know the performance issues. For approach 1 I think the potential problem is Object creation everytime no matter the Object exists in the map or not. Would anyone tell me which will have better performance when the map contains lots of objects and the map insert rate is very high?
    Thanks,
    Benny

    Using Locks is hard and errorprone, use ConcurrentHashMap and other collections since inventing your own locking mechnism would be difficult.
    If you manage to implement your own fast locking mechnism for hashmaps you want to publish it in a Academic Paper so others can implement it too. Like that ConcurrentLinkedQueue that is based on a paper from 1996 http://www.cs.rochester.edu/u/michael/PODC96.html.

  • IOS 8.1 installed yesterday has spoilt my iPad 2! There are no keyboard, message or app sounds, performance is now sluggish, juddery and strange, battery is draining fast and it no longer security locks when put to sleep.

    I am so cross because iOS 8.1 installed yesterday has ruined my iPad 2! There are now no keyboard, message or app sounds, performance is slow, juddery and strange, the battery is draining fast and the iPad no longer security locks when put to sleep.  I have checked all the settings, done a number of resets and really wish I hadn't bothered and stayed with iOS 7 when it all worked like a dream.  I thought that by waiting until 8.1, teething problems would have been fixed and I am just horrified that there is no going back!  I am not the only iPad owner that has this set of problems so why didn't you warn us Apple!  What are you going to do to help us?  I do not want to be forced into buying a newer version of iPad because you broke this one!

    In spite of the fact that you said you checked the settings, I still believe that you have system sounds muted.
    System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
    Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
    If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
    If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center if you are running iOS 7. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
    If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.
    This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
    AS for your other issues, have you done any other troubleshooting like resetting your iPad, resetting all settings or doing a complete factory reset?

  • When I power up my ipad air the apple logo comes up like it should then the lock screen only comes up for a second or less so I can't swipe it fast enough.

    When I power up my iPad Air the Apple Logo comes up like it should then the lock screen only comes up for a second or less so I can't swipe it fast enough to get to the home page. The lock screen just disappears. I have to hit the sleep/wake or home button to bring the lock screen back up so I can swipe it. Have others found this situation with the iPad Air. I have an iPad 2 and it does not happen at all. The Apple store checked it out. One rep said to me this is unusual and had a tech check it out and they said this is normal. If the iPad is suppose to be user friendly, why this extra step to get to the lock screen? Are other owners of the iPad Air having the same problem? If so, what have you done to correct it?

    Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.

  • 875p, I CANT LOCK my PCI / AGP Frequency using FAST,TURBO, or ULTRA

    i have an 875p neo. i am one setting away from loving this mainboard(finally). i have a 2.8ghz running at 3.0 (with a 1:1 FSB/RAM). i can run stable in TURBO MODE, with "timings by SPD". i am using 1.7 bios (1.8 gives me lower performance). i tried all the bios from 1.4 and up. my problem is I CANT LOCK MY AGP/PCI frequency. no matter what, it boots up in windows as 70/35, but only when using FAST,TURBO,or ULTRA PERFORMANCE MODE. my agp/pci frequency locks fine at 66/33(67/34) if i run in SLOW MODE, but any other performance mode setting overclocks the AGP PCI frequency to 70/35. this causes my ATI 9700np to freeze almost instantly while playing any game. luckily my ATI card has unlocked bios or the problem would be worst. i have been using CLOCKGEN to throw the settings back to 66/33 when windows loads, and i get no freezes. BUT I WANT A PERMANENT FIX MSI. not a CLOCKGEN patch. my question to you all out there:
    IS THERE A particular BIOS THAT I CAN USE THAT will LOCK THE PCI/AGP FReQUENCY while using FAST,TURBO, and ULTRA PERFORMANCE MODES? or another way to lock the setting in the bios?any suggestions? thanks
    EDIT 2:
    i just remembered, i forgot to tell you all. my agp/pci lock works fine if i run my ram in 333mhz mode. i have 400mhz ram. i was a running 1:1 ratio. agp/pci doesnt lock only if i use "auto" or "400mhz" settings. it run fine when i have my ram set to run at 333mhz. are you runnig at 400mhz or 333mhz? if 333mhz i can see why i left you guys confused...sorry.

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!MY FIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    WELL I GUESS WE HAVE TO USE THE GHETTO FIX FOR NOW:
    (i am assumming this is an ATI CARD only PROBLEM)
    download clockgen and install it. check your AGP/PCI frequency. if it reads  70/35 then you have a problem, which will cause your ATI card to freeze up during a period of use.
    unlock your cards bios(if it's not already unlocked). this will allow room for the 70/35 AGP/PCI frequency overclock. get info from rage3d.com forum on how to unlock your  ATI card.
    make your clockgen settings startup when windows boot, @***ghz, 66/33 agp/pci(read the clockgen instructions on how to run clockgen on boot)
    download radclocker and install it.
    set the AGP core/mem clock speeds to what you desire. then bump down the core TWO NOTCHES, then the memory down TWO NOTCHES then click "use current" bios button. 70/35 boot overclock pushes your ATI core/memory up two notches, so by setting radclocker 2 notches , radclocker takes the 70/35overclock two nothes lower. you have your desired speed. then clockgen throws your agp/pci frequency back to 66/33....which makes everything work right. it all boots in the right order for me.
    explaination:
    when windows starts it boots your agp/pci frequency@ 70/35. you need to be at 66/33 AGP/pci frequency for your ati card to run correct and not lock up after intense gameplay. radclocker underclock your card.clockgen puts your agp/pci to 66/33 AGP/PCI frequency.

    Ios7 no call decline option when its locked battert drains fast music is not able to controlled through headset unless the music app is open  please fix these bugs

    if they are unable to update all languages in a normal time gap (it is now 6 months ago they released firmware 4.22 for the first product code (actually mine and maybe a few others)), they should not offer those many versions. the huge bug with out of memory in nokia navigator with firmware 3.58 is not fixed yet for those people. really absolutely not acceptable.
    besides that, currently my phone is in a nokia service center, microphone doesnt work anymore (the one who i call just hears a very loud noise). my brother got the same phone, his one is in nokia service center since 2 weeks now, because it doesnt charge anymore as there seems to be a connection broken inside the phone).
    well that will be fun if the phone returns (approximately 4 weeks), as I guess the phones will have new IMEIs as they will send 2 new phones and not fix the problem (would cost them more). but as i got a western europe with nordics-map licence locked to the imei, the next problem will be there after I get a nokia 6110navi with another IMEI back. i get really upset with this really slow support.
