Faster Scrolling, etc.

It's a pain when viewing a website (forums in particular) that require scrolling through pages and pages on the little iPhone screen. Is there a way to speed up the scrolling... or even better, do something like a page jump or quickly move to the end/start of web page?
Thanks

There is no built in way to get quickly to the bottom of a page. However, this neat trick should work. If you want to go to the bottom of any web page in Safari you can do it using a bookmark and javascript.
Using your iPhone, go to any page and save a bookmark (this page will do). Then copy the following line on your iPhone (the usual way).
javascript:window.scrollTo%280%2C100000%29
Edit the bookmark you created. Rename it something like "Go to bottom" and then replace the url with the above (paste it in).
The next time you are viewing a page and want to go to the bottom, just select that bookmark and it will take you to the bottom of the page.
Please let me know if this helps. I've posted this work around before and received no comments at all.

  • Adobe Reader crashes when fast scrolling and using IAccessible interface

Acrobat Reader 8, 9 crashes on Vista, XP, 2003 server by following steps:
    1. Open two huge documents (>1000 pages).
    2. Get IAccessible object by AccessibleObjectFromWindow function from external application.
    3. Fast scroll in one document and quickly click on second doc's vertical slider bar several times.
Here I get APPCRASH ("Acrobat Reader has stopped working").
If external program doesn't get IAccessible, Acrobat Reader works normally.
If I close external program after getting IAccessible Acrobat crashes after scrolling too.
Reading mode option is set to "Read the currently visible pages only" in "Accessibility Reader Options".

I had the same problem. If you're running Greasemonkey, you need to update it. There's a conflict between Greasemonkey 0.9.10 and Tab Mix Plus on Firefox 6.0.2. Until the add-ons site approves Greasemonkey 0.9.11, you'll have to install it manually.

  • Disable Very Fast Scrolling Acceleration

Please, make update disabling very fast scrolling acceleration in Mountain Lion.
Scrolling sould works like in Lion!!!

The speed of scrolling through long lists depends on how quickly you move your finger or thumb around the click wheel.
    That's it.

I hope someone get the answer! In the Apple shop they say, may be by the next Udate it will be pepared?

That is priceless!!!  Thanks!  I sure needed a good laugh after spending/wasting hours & days trying to either get my c6280 to give up on its Ink System Failure fixation, or find a decent replacement.  Unfortunately I need the Smart Web Printing feature that I guess only HP has, or I'd try a different brand. And now even HP has very few models with that available.
My error msg is a little different from those previously stated, but close:  0xc18a0201.  Even tho there were frustrations with my c6280, I did like several of its unique features which are hard to find now under $100.  I hate how HP (& I suppose other brands also) are CONSTANTLY changing models & then of course ink cartridges.
Oh heavens, I've had the c6280 a whopping 2 1/2 years!   I'm sure they want us poor slobs to have to buy a new one every year & a day!  To say nothing of the exorbitant prices for ink.  And now if this one is really dead in the water, I have SIX unused #02 ink cartridges which I cannot return---I got them in a combo pack, & for some reason have wound up with THREE lite pink & THREE lite blue cartridges, while having to buy extras of the other colors, that ran out before the others!!!   Yeah, & what's with that not being able to print in BLACK if a color runs out????
Anyway I really loved your essay!   It's a classic!  And says it all!  I hate that we have to be 'slaves' to the electronic 'wonders'!!!

  • Pre-buying question: Fast scrolling a HUGE library

My intention for Apple TV is actually for music library looking ups - I have got a 100K songs ( yes, about 800GB )HUGE library, I think the TV screen provides much bigger browsing interface comparing to other wireless sharing server ( I'm currently a Roku M1000 user so you know everytime to find an artist is a torture... ), however I don't know if the ATV remote provides the fast scrolling between first character, it will be great to have that function which is offered on latest IPODs. I take a look at the atv remote and found out it is up/down scrolling instead of the wheel design, so guess if there is no first character scrolling then switching from A to Z will become impossible mission!
Please can any pro here help, thanks!

Sorry no fast scrolling in this version.
I don't have the library that you do, I have roughly the same usage of disc space but most is taken by movies, I only have around 10,000 tunes. I can however confirm that whilst the size of my library doesn't actually cause any issues, navigating the artist list is a bit tedious.
Unfortunately if you set up smart playlists for alphabetical groupings the list is displayed as song titles and not artists and so doesn't help.
For your information my artist count is 1401 and it takes the tv 13 seconds to scroll from first to last.

  • IPhone fast scroll problem !!!

    Hi everyone
I'm an iPhone 4 owner who is very happy with the phone's performance
However, a few days ago this problem started occuring
Whenever I scroll whether on the phone's menu or on a website or in my contacts or my songs
There suddenly comes a very fast scroll that skips through several pages at once
    This is getting really annoying
And I feel as if my phone is losing it's touch sensitivity
Apparently very few users experience this problem and some suggested restoring te phone and setting it up as a new phone to solve this issue
However it's a bit of a pain as I have some apps I paid for and I have over 17 gb of data
So I would be very thankful if someone could offer me a solution other than setting up as a new
    Phone
I tried restoring frOm backup but experienced the same problem again
Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED !!!
    regards
    iPhone 4
    iOS 4.2

There is nothing in the settings menu which would cause fast scrolling, so the best advice would be to make an appointment at your Apple store Genius Bar and let them see what's happening. If your phone if found to be defective, they will replace it.

  • Have ipod nano first generation...want "search" and fast scroll from second

hi i was just asking if anyone knew if it was possible to get an update for a ipod nano first generation that allows you to have "search" and the scroll by letter function on the new ones. I have updated my ipod nano all the way to the most recent one, but there is no search function or fast scroll.

Unless your iPod is one of the Late 2006 upgraded 30GB or 80GB iPods or a 2nd Generation Nano, you don't have the search function. It was not added to existing devices in any of the subsequent updates. The original versions cannot be updated to the specification of the later versions.

  • Custom booleans - play, pause, fast forward, etc

I thought this would be an easy one, but my searches haven't yielded any results yet. Does anyone know of a collection of custom Boolean images? I need to implement a playback feature in a program and would like buttons that look like Play, Pause, Stop, Rewind, Fast Forward, etc, such as on a CD player.
    Thanks,

Under Windows, I would use regular text with some special Fonts. The attached booleans use "Wingdings" and "Wingdings 3" with single characters. (use charmap to pick the right symbol). I would think that virtually all modern windows boxes have these fonts available.

  • Acrobat Pro (9.3) hangs up when editing, scrolling, etc...

Over the past few months, Acrobat hangs up / quits responding when I try to zoom, scroll or edit such as cropping a pdf.  It will often do the same thing when I move the cursor over the tabs at the top of the program with the headings: file, edit, view, document, etc..  Has anyone else experienced this and if so, have you been able to fix it?  I have changed the Screen Reader Options to only read the currently visible pages which seemed to help for a short period of time.

Knowing the OS would be helpful as it may be a factor.
If the OS is Windows 7 Acrobat 9.x will not provide full functionality.
Regardless, WP file format(s) are not compatible / supported by Acrobat PDFMaker.
Corel uses its own publish to PDF process rather than anything Adobe.
With Acrobat installed you can print to the Adobe PDF virtual printer.
If you are not doing a File - Print and selecting the Adobe PDF printer then you are using a WP rather than an Adobe process provided by Acrobat.

  • Safari 5.1 under 10.6.8: various issues (responsability, scrolling, etc)

    Hi,
here my observations, issues after upgrading to Safari 5.1 (from 5.0.1) under 10.6.8.
Scrolling is often choppy (with two fingers, with scroll wheel). Terribly annoying.
There is – not always, bit quite often – a strange refresh-effect when switching tabs or windows: the switched-to tab/windows goes blank for a very short moment before it comes back with its content (no reload involved, apparently just a display issue), of course terribly annoying.
Text input is lagging (like here, like now).
The beach ball is seen way too often, and way more often than in 5.0.1.
Text selection is lagging. You have to do it veeeeeerrrrry sloooooowly.
I guess, you can sum it up this way: responsability and UI interaction is not right.
This is not the case with regard to page loads, which is snappy, probably even better than in 5.0.1.
Another point: Window switching changed its algorithm back to how it used to be quite some time ago (maybe pre 5.x): The order of the windows does not get re-shuffled, but stays the way it was – so, on the one hand, you have to ‘caroussel’ to all of the windows to get back to the first; on the other hand, you don’t see (as in Safari 5.0.x) one window again and again just because you paused switching for a moment, or closed out some tab. A bit hard to describe, but I guess people will recognize what I mean.
Both algorithms have their pros and cons. I guess I like 5.1’s change back to the ‘traditional’ better, but it’s also a matter of taste, I guess.
RAM usage is pretty hefty as well: “Safari Web Content” 720MB, “Safari” 267MB, Flash Player (Safari Internet plug-in) 25,8MB – I have 2 GB RAM installed.
Text input is horribly lagging. Consider me brave to have finished this posting here.
    Please, Webkit/Safari team, fix it.
    Best,
    Peter

Good news: I can report that you can successfully and easily downgrade from Safari 5.1 to 5.0.5 under 10.6.8 by means of Charlessoft’s excellent (und for a long time well respected [I’m in now way affiliated with Charlessoft]) tool Pacifist (http://www.charlessoft.com/).
Just download this Safari 5.0.5 installer (for Snow Leopard) from Apple’s site (I hope it’s okay to put this link up here; of course Apple prefers you to download only its very latest – alas, the problems with this very latest is why you’re reading this post):
    http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/Safari5/041-0564. 20110413.Fi9pb/Safari5.0.5SnowLeopard.dmg
Then proceed as described here (look for the part named “Force Install”; don’t get confused that it mentions older Safari versions, like 5.0 and 4.0.5, the procedure is the same now):
    http://appletoolbox.com/2010/06/down...-safari-4-0-5/
Also see the concise documentation that comes with Pacifist.
Basically, in all the dialogues coming up just choose “Replace” (not “Update”), a choice clearly marked in Pacifist’s documentation for cases of downgrading. One restart, and you’re back to Safari 5.0.5 without touching any other part of your OS. And, of course, Safari 5.0.5 is supposed to work under 10.6.8, since it gets installed with the 10.6.8 Combo Update, so no surprise.
(Why not just use the above linked 5.0.5 updater, by double-clicking it? This updater denies to install 5.0.5 under 10.6.8, instead claiming to require 10.6.7 – but this seems to be due only to the fact that at the time the Safari 5.0.5 installer was current, 10.6.7 was the up-to-date version of Snow Leopard. And again, I’m writing this post – and, other than the one above which I wrote from within Safari 5.1, without any hiccups – from within Safari 5.0.5, which “flies” compared to my 5.1 experience under the very same, otherwise untouched 10.6.8 installation.)
Just one further caution: After the downgrade, Safari 5.0.5 cannot re-open the last session’s (the one under Safari 5.1) windows and tabs (something to be quite expected); so, in case, bookmark accordingly before initializing the downgrade. (And, of course, you do not loose any other information, like bookmarks, history, passwords, etc. The downgrade does not effect any kind of “brutal” reset of Safari.)
Finally, after the downgrade OS X’s Software Update does offer you the update of Safari 5.1. So, you clearly can get back again to the newest and latest if you wish to.
    Best.

  • Fast scroll in a very long song list

How to scroll a little faster on the iPod, if the song list is very long? With the iPod wheel it's a nightmare. Or is there any possibility of searching (I mean inside iPod not with iTunes)? Please, help me, my finger gets already hot from the iPod wheel.

Thank's for the answer, but I keep spinning the wheel all the time and it takes me uncountable rotations to come to the end (the song list has about 8000 songs).
Does it mean my iPod is faulty?
By the way, is there not a trick to jump quickly to a certain position (for instance to the end).
Anyway, following thing should be possible: If you are at the beginning of the song list and you start spinning the wheel anticlockwise, then it should take you to the end of the list. On my iPod 5th generation 60GB it's also impossible -> That hurts.

  • Really fast scroll wheel in ID CS5

I'm using the new Magic mouse (the multi touch wireless one) and in indesign it scrolls really fast, a mere touch and it shoots off to the side or scrolls down a page. I can't see any option in preferences to change the speed and in system prefs I've got scroll speed set to the lowest, the mouse scrolls fine in Chrome or Safari so I'm thinking it's a problem with ID.
Ta very much for any help
    Tom

This problem doesn't seem to be limited to the Magic Mouse. I've found the same problems with ID CS4 and CS5 using my Mighty Mouse...
I use a Mighty at work and a Magic at home, and CS3 scrolls smoothly with no jerks or skips whatsoever... but as soon as I switch over to CS5 (I have both installed on my work computer, so it's easy to compare), the scrolling control  is abysmal. I'm pretty confident the problem is with the apps, not the mouse.
