FDF Merge with Rights Enabled Form

Hi,
I have a rights enabled form and I would like to be able to do a server side merge with this form and fdf data using a tool like pdftk or Appligent's FDFMerge. However, when the form is merged, there is a message saying "this document used to have rights but have been disabled due to changes in the document" (something along those lines).
Is it possible to do a server side merge with a rights enabled document and still keep the rights?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you may be modifying the structure of the form and not just populating fields. Is the tool actually "filling in" the form or filling the form and creating a new form from the original using it as a template?

  • Reader not saving Rights Enabled Form

I have a form created in Acrobat Pro. Rights have been enabled for reader and it will not save. I'm go crazy. It works on the station nest to me but not on all.
I have tried several version of Reader too. 7, 8, 9.
    Anyone have any thoughts. Please!
    Thanks!

Just to be sure, how do you know it is rights enabled (it would give you a message if it was when you open it)? Also, in the station next to you, are you sure it's actually being opened by Reader?
Barring it not actually being enabled, transfer the file from that station to yours to be sure the file you have isn't corrupted and give it a shot. If it works on one, it should work on all the others running 7.5 and higher.
If none of that works, is it a file that you can post here in public so we can take a look at it?

  • Pointing an emailed fdf to the right pdf form

I am using Acrobat 8 Pro and I've designed a pdf form that I need to distribute and collect over email. Part of the data is filled in first by another application, which then also distributes the forms. This application requires that usage rights are not "enabled for Reader users." The users then fill in the rest of the form and use the Submit button to email an fdf file back to me. But when I try to open the fdf it comes up with a "this document cannot be found" error and makes me go and find the original pdf manually. So my question is, is there a way to program the file path to the pdf into the form itself so the fdf will know where to point when it's sent back?

there should be a reference to the PDF in the fdf. Open up the fdf in a text editor and see where it points to. I think you can manually change it to be an absolute path if for some reason you move the original

  • Pdfforge interferes with Reader Enabled Form

    Hi,
I have set up a form that I then enabled for Adobe Reader users to be able to fill out and save. One user has PDFForge installed. It's a free PDF creator. She is the only one who cannot use the forms. She cannot save, and the calculations don't even work properly. Has anyone experienced this and other than uninstalling, any suggestions on how to fix?

It would seem that just having pdfforge installed causes the file to open in Reader fine, but not be editable. The calculations don't work and it won't save any of the data entered into the form fields. There is NO error message, but this is what is happening. I just want to know if anyone has experienced this and if they discovered a solution.

  • SaveAs with ARES enabled pdf

    From AcroJS_DesignerJS.pdf.....
Saves the file. With no arguments, it will
bring up a dialog box. In LiveCycle
Designer, the file must be saved at the
application level, so you must use
    Acrobat JavaScript:
    app.executeMenuItem("SaveAs");
    or:
    var myDoc = event.target;
    myDoc.saveAs();
I have tried both in an rights enabled form and neither brings up the dialogue. Any help would be appreciated.
BTW - I am currently using the eval version of Designer 7.0 until I can get my hands on 7.1.

wow, how odd that that works, Zofia.

  • Does anyone know the best way to create a form that you can do a mail merge with?

I have been asked to create a form that can be used to do a mail merge. At first I thought I could create it in indesign and then pdf the file and do form fields right in the pdf, but I'm not sure if you can do a mail merge with data in an excel file and a pdf file containing form fields.
The other option I know I could use is a Word file and excel, but I don't think the functionality is as good as in a pdf (like addition of percentages, or error messages, radio buttons, etc.). And I do need to be able to do a mail merge. Anybody have any suggestions?

There is not built-in feature for this, but it can be done with scripting. The problem is it can be a bit complicated, and it more complicated to decribe in much detail in a forum posting. It involves creating the base form and making the pages templates. You can export from Excel to a tab delimited text file. You can then either programmatically create a template-based FDF that when loaded into Acrobat populates the PDF form, creating as many individual forms as needed, or using JavaScript in Acrobat to read the data file and generate as many individual forms as needed. Both approaches involve a similar amount of programming, but they're quite different.
You might want to look into this product, which apparently is no longer available but may be come back soon: http://www.debenu.com/products/eol/arts-pdf-variform-lite/

Look to the right under "More Like This". Your issue has been discussed many many times. The error you are seeing is because you do not have enough free "contiguous" space on your hard drive. Read the other threads that address this issue to find how to solve the issue.
Or, put "The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved" into the search box at the upper right of this page.

  • Reader Enabled Forms with Acrobat 8.0

    Hi,
I am considering upgrading from 7Pro to 8Pro and need to confirm some aspects of the new features for applying reader rights to forms. I have a number of forms generated in Lifecycle Designer 7.1, where the user is using the Reader version to email the XML data.
If I reader enable these forms with Acrobat 8 Pro, will the User be able to still email the XML data and also save the completed form locally? In addition will it be possible to inport and export XML data into & out of Reader Enabled forms?
In addition do you know what the story is with "500 users of the forms"? Is is 500 per form over the lifetime of the form? Some of my forms are distributed to different Clients and I am not sure how this will work
    Any help/guidance gratefully appreciated ;-)
    Thanks, Niall

It should, yes. Can't confirm 100% as I haven't tried.

  • Is it possible to merge a .fdf file with the IOS application for Adobe Reader?

I receive .fdf files via email that merge with a pdf template on my PC. I would like to do this on my Ipad but can't see any way that this would be possible. Does anyone know how this can be done? If not are Adobe looking at making this function possible in the future?

    wildcat24,
Currently, Adobe Reader mobile products do not support import of FDF files.
Sorry, I am not able to speculate on features in future releases.

  • Help with complex Acrobat forms

    Hi Everyone,
Background: I worked with another developer and completed a form for one of our clients but I need to know if the below change requests are even possible and if so if anyone would like to help with finishing the form. I am definitely willing to pay for an experts services as long as this can be done in a timely manner.
What the form is - Our client wants a form that has text fields, drop down boxes and pages where images can be placed into the file and arrows drawn on it to point where the images are located on other images (some images are store layout maps). They would like to send this file out to their store managers, have them fill it in and then they would like the completed forms sent back so all of the information that was filled in (names, store names, addresses, square footage, etc) can be gathered into a database or excel file.
    What is completed so far
    - Cascading drop down boxes (user clicks on first drop down and whatever is selected changes the second drop down options, etc)
    - Most of the text fields for information gathering including city, state, store manager etc
    - Metric unit conversion boxes
    - Header text fields (read only) are used on several of the pages and are a combination of choices made in the drop down boxes and text fields.
    - Page footer info including page number
    - The over all layout of the pages is set
    Requested changes/additions
    Major must have:
    - Page Addition - There is a product page in the form (page 10) and the different stores will have a different number of these products to enter into the form so is there a way to add an ADD PAGE button on the page that when pressed will copy the product page to make a new product page? Now the product page has cascading drop down form fields on it so I would want to make sure the form fields are separate iterations of the form fields not just a duplicate of what was on the product page.
    - Footer adjustments - If we can do the above of adding pages then is it possible to at that point adjust the footer to reflect the page number changes? The footer shows the current page number then the form name and date.
    - Gather info - What is the best way to distribute these forms so that when returned completed the information can be gathered? I tried distributing via email which seems to work ok but the files might end up being too large for email so what is the best way to gather the completed info if say the files were ftp'd back?
    Minor:
There are several minor change requests that I know are doable or that if not possible we can disregard. One that I am not sure about is if the color of the arrows in Acrobat can be changed from the default red?
At first I was assuming that the Clients that get the forms needed Acrobat Standard or Pro 8 or 9 because I thought that the only way to add images was to use the Touch-Up Tool under advanced tools and right click to Place images. However I am pretty sure that if Reader Rights is enabled that images can be copy pasted into the file too if this is incorrect please let me know.
If the above is not doable or if there is a better solution other than Acrobat forms to gather client information including allow the client to add images and place arrows then please let me know your thoughts.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated and again id like to commission this out to anyone who is up for the challenge.
    Thanks in advance
    Jason

  • Extend SAP R/3 4.x with Interactive PDF Forms

    Hi there,
In this blog of Matthias Zeller <a href="http:///people/matthias.zeller2/blog/2004/06/22/the-hidden-secret-of-adobe-reader hidden secret of Adobe Reader</a> there is the following paragraph:
<i>While mySAP ERP 2004 provides many business scenarios using Interactive Forms out-of-the-box, a lot of customers have asked me how they can use the new Interactive Forms with existing R/3 applications. Therefore, I would like to encourage you to vote for my SAP TechEd presentation proposal ("Extend your SAP R/3 4.x applications with interactive PDF forms"). I plan to discuss how you can connect your existing SAP R/3 applications with SAP Web AS 6.40 to enable interactive form workflows.</i>
Can somebody tell me if this presentation is somewhere on SDN? Or can somebody tell me where i can find more information about this subject?
    Thx in advance.
    Regards Maarten.

    Hi Maarten,
Here's a brief run-down on how you could make use of SAP/Adobe Interactive Forms and Workflow:
    1) Remember that a form is really just a UI for collecting data.  A PDF form can be used to collect data online (connected to your SAP system) or offline, e.g. you could send it as a mail attachment, fill it in, and email it to a central point for uploading into the system.
    2) The main requirements for using SAP Interactive Forms are:
    a) A NW04 (6.40) or NW04s (7.00) WebAs (Java Stack) to run Adobe Document Services. This is the critical component that assigns ReaderRights to the document, e.g. so that the user can change the data and save it on the document.   You could run a WebAs like this alongside your R/3 4.7 - e.g. if you have an XI system or Enterprise Portal you could use that system to run Adobe Document Services.  Every form you create must be generated via the Adobe Document Services to get the Reader Rights. Note: Get a NW04s environment if you can - as this release has usefuul new features such as loading attachments to the PDF, using digital signatures, etc.
    b) A WebDynpro application to generate the Adobe form via Adobe Document Services, and to execute the Adobe Form when using online mode, and to upload offline forms.  Tutorials on how to do this are available in SDN - have a look at the Adobe section within WebDynpro. Note: From ECC 5.0 there are some standard WebDynpros apps provided, but in R/3 4.7 you will need to write your own.
    c) There's also a licensing requirement for any production custom forms (SAP provided forms and cosmetic changes to those forms are free) so make sure you get your SAP account manager involved to help sort out how your intended usage will fit in with your current license agreement and any discounts that may apply.
    3) To use the "form" with workflow has some additional requirements:
    a) You need to store the data entered via the form somewhere that is accessible by Workflow.  The easiest approach here is to use the standard form handling technique Internet Service Requests.  Transaction QISRSCENARIO will let you define all of the form fields, give you BADIs for doing validation, raising workflow events, etc.  Also from ECC 5.0 onwards using Adobe forms as the form entry is a standard option for this technique, so this will help reduce the upgrade impact when you eventually do upgrade.
    b) Assuming you use ISRs, have your WebDynpro App call the function module ISR_PROCESS_EVENT to pass the data to R/3 and do the validation checks.
    c) Assuming you use ISRs, you use the BOR object for notification such as BUS2078, as your main object for the workflow.  The form data is attached to the notification and can be retrieved using function module ISR_SPECIAL_DATA_GET.
    d) If you want to call your WebDynpro App from SBWP (I take you don't have Enterprise Portal?) then use transaction WF_EXTSRV to define the web service to call your WebDynpro app and generate a workflow task for it.  Also you must configure transaction WF_HANDCUST to enable R/3 to handle web services.  Note: If you do have the Enterprise Portal, you can use transaction SWFVISU instead.
I'd strongly recommend you read the ISR cookbook at http://service.sap.com/isr as well.   ISRs aren't the only way to use Adobe forms with R/3 but they are extremely handy if you want to use your Adobe form with Workflow.
As for Lotus Notes, you can use your WebDynpro app to generate and send/receive a form to/from an email address.  You can also put a hyperlink in your workflow task to call your WebDynpro app and use RSWUWFML2 (swap to Enhanced Notifications when you upgrade) to send out a mail with the hyperlink attached as per usual.
You'll also find some useful threads on Adobe forms and Workflow in the SDN BPM Forum.  So if you have workflow specific questions try raising them in the BPM forum.
    Enjoy!
    Regards,
    Jocelyn

  • How to generate PDF using FDF file and the PDF form template (PHP)

    Hi Folks,
I'm really sorry that I couldn't follow all the valuable discussions going on here, regularly. I need some immediate help.
I NEED A PHP SOLUTION. I'm able to generate FDF files using the PDF Form Template in PHP. So, I have a collection of FDF files, which seeks the PDF template, while opened and populates the template with FDF data. Now if I need to save this PDF file, I have to do it manually clicking SAVE option. But, I need to convert FDF to PDF in bulk. So, I need some PHP based solution. The PHP script takes the PDF template and the FDF file and merges them to generate a complete populated PDF file. I know it's possible, but don't know how. I've seen Adobe FDF Toolkit. But by default it doesn't show any guideline for PHP. Please help me to write this code. I'm a professional coder. I can understand your hints and tutorials. PLEASE HELP GOOD PEOPLE.

The only reason I am responding to this post is because the poster sent me a request through the forum message system asking for my help.
Although I did populate PDFs with FDF data generated by web forms a year or so ago, I have since abandoned that kind of solution. It was a big headache. I found it far more stable and flexible to use html, php and css to populate forms that are almost as nice looking as PDFs.
So my advice is, if you can possibly avoid going the FDF/PDF route, you will be better off.

  • Rights enabled PDF From and XML Data Collection

    Hello,
Requirements is something in this line..Convert 3 page word doc- with name field, date field and few radio buttons to PDF.These would be send then send back via email, for further processing.Interested in the actual data rather than the PDF form.
I have used Adobe LiveCycle designer to create rights enabled PDF with name fields, drop down ,radio buttons and Submit by email button.Only reason i have it rights enabled is so that user can save the partially filled document locally and at later time fill it completely and send via desktop email client. The end users would have latest reader installed and outlook email client.
I assume, When the user selects the send button, an email message starts with attachment of  XML extension and can send it.On my end  I could user XML parser and read the data.I dont need the actual PDF.
Would collecting the data, in this manner , still fall under  500 use licensing limit on PDF's that have Reader Extensions enabled.
There is no comments or digital signatures involved or collected.Just the data,in form of XML and not the actual PDF.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the confirmations on my previous questions. On the signature thing....
Upon opening a XML file created by submit button, it does have signature parent tages with <signatureinfo/>,<key value/> ,<signrature propeties/> etc.
Would it be same as one filled and signed by end user ,if i import the XML file to blank template at my end.
