Feature Request: Photo Borders and Copying in Books

These are a few related feature requests. If anyone knows of a better way to do this with the current software, then I would love to hear it.
When making books I like to have borders around the pictures of various colors (usually black or white) and various widths. In Apeture this is a pain to do. I fiqured out that I could fake it by making a picture box and inserting a solid black picture into it and then creating a smaller picture box in front of it for my real photo. This might be tolerable if I could at least then select both picture boxes and their contents to copy and then onto other pages as a template that I can resize as needed.
Ideally I would love to be able to copy and paste multiple elements on a book page and I would like to be able to define photo borders. Any chance of seeing this in the near future?
Thanks,
Sean

Thanks for the reply. You are right, the cut and paste works fine, it just didn't work the way I expected it to. Maybe that is a GUI design thing to consider. I was actually trying to click and drag a selection box like you might do in iPhoto to select multiple images that are right beside each other. This doesn't work at all in Aperture, but your method does work just fine.
I agree with the other poster that some additional features like:
Photo Borders
Export to PSD (with layers)
Custom page sizes and Custom themes
would be very nice and start to make that tool truley useful.
Thanks for a really nice product. Keep up the good work and stay ahead of the pack.

  • Nokia 808 Pureview feature request for Phone and C...

    Hi,
Where would be the best venue to make feature requests for the 808 functions?  These are some nice-to-have ideas that I would like to propose, which would increase its awesomeness:
    - in video mode, add a "lock exposure" setting so that the 808 doesn't continuously adjust exposure after recording starts. this would be equivalent to setting the exposure to manual on a regular videocam.
    - in photo creative mode, add a voice-activated self-timer, where it would take a shot when sound reaches a certain threshold.  this is similar to what the Shout 'n Snap app does for the android.
    - in phone calls, add an option to use proximity sensing, so that when you take the phone away from your ear, the handset automatically switches to speaker phone, or vice versa.  this would be equivalent to the Phone Speakers Switcher on the N900.
    Thanks

i'd like to make an addendum to my request and change it to "lock exposure and white balance".
i just found that while shooting, it does not keep the white balance setting throughout. for example, select "tungsten" and the video will start with this, but later it adjusts as if it was under "auto" white balance setting for the rest of the video.

  • Posting Feature Requests for others to Copy/Paste

I recently posted a Feature Request I sent to Adobe for another member to copy/paste as his own FR since he liked the suggestion (see the FR below).
After doing so, I got the idea that we could all do this: copy/paste FRs we send to Adobe into threads on this forum to help each other support the idea with similar requests, or even copy/paste the FR as our own.  With limited resources and time, there's only so many requests Adobe can implement in every new version.   That why it's so important that new features the Premiere Pro team invests their hard work and time on be the tools that would benefit the greatest number of editors.  The more people back up certain ideas, the more likely they'll be implemented sooner than later.
There's power in numbers, so how about using this forum to share our best ideas and make it easier for others to add their voice of support?  It's great that Adobe provides us with a way to send them feedback, but it's too bad that it's a one-way conversation with very little, if any, dialogue back and forth between the submitter and Adobe.  That's why I thought it would be great to bring more of that potential dialogue here, where we can share ideas and support the creation of an ever better Premiere Pro!
If you've never posted a FR or BR (Bug Report) before, you can easily join the effort to make Premiere Pro become all that it can be, here: www.adobe.com/go/wish
    Comments?  Ideas?  Please share!
Here's the FR I pasted in another thread, as an example.
    *******Enhancement / FMR*********
Brief title for your desired feature:  Drag&Drop Modified clips into Project Window
How would you like the feature to work?
Ability to Drag&Drop clips with effects, motion settings, keyframes and/or markers back into the Project Window from the Timeline for later use.
Why is this feature important to you?
The Project Window is far better than Sequences for storing/organizing modified clips for future use, since it is:
    Searchable
    Sortable
Viewable in Icon and List views
Full of helpful metadata columns such as 'Video/Audio Usage'
Foolproof in that the original sequence can be deleted without losing any created subclips
Given these advantages, why only allow us to store modified clips in Sequences? Please fix this by allowing users to Drag&Drop clips from the Timeline to the Project Window while preserving all of their modifications (effects, keyframes, motion settings and/or markers).

    Comments?  Ideas?  Please share!
As it has already been discussed in this thread (and duplicated threads are not allowed in Adobe Forums), the aforementioned feature request is mainly based on the false statement that an editor can either store raw clips in the Project panel or modified clip in the timeline. That's false because an editor can nest modified clip right in the timeline and the nested sequence will be automatically stored in the Project panel, turning into a regular reusable asset.
Unfortunately, the OP, as was also outlined in the duplicated thread, carefully avoids any mentioning this ability, which becomes your second nature if you use After Effects (which is unlike FCP is a part of Adobe Suite).
However, since the OP asks for sharing ideas, I do not hesitate to do this once again. Here is the feature request intended to improve the usability of such PrPro assets as 'Sequences' without breaking existing workflow:
    *******Managing Sequences*******
It would be nice if managing capabilities for such assets as 'Sequences' were extended with the following features:
    - similar live thumbnail view, which was introduced for footages in CS6. A small 'Sequence' badge in the top left corner of the thumbnail would allow to differentiate between sequences and clips;
    - enabled metadata and ability to handle them like for any other regular asset;
    - ability to remove empty audio or video tracks completely, i.e. get a sequence as an Audio or Video asset only;
    - pop-up dialog box on hitting 'Nest' command, which would allow to give meaning name instead of default 'Nested Sequence XXX', contain 'Delete All Empty Tracks' checkbox and a button for advanced dialog for logging metadata right on a brand new asset creation.
These features would improve an ability to exploit sequences as reusable assets and preserve consistent applications behaviour throughout the Suite instead of breaking existing workflow by inventing new FCP style 'subclip with effects' type of asset. See this discussion in PrPro Forum for some more details:

  • Where do I make a feature request for tethering and A2DP

I would very much like to switch from Windows Mobile to an iPhone but:
    1. It does not support tethering which is very useful for emergency situations that require internet for work on my laptop while travelling
    2. It does not support A2DP which I think is a great innovation for music listening.
I understand that feature requests cannot be made on this forum, so could somebody please tell me where I can officially voice these requests to Apple?
    Thanks,
    Scott

In the US, it's unlikely that ATT will allow tethering without an additional tethering plan.
    2. It does not support A2DP which I think is a great innovation for music listening.
There is an adapter you can buy if you want to use stereo bt headphones.

  • FEATURE REQUESTS: Border Panel and Transparency slider for bg color

    Some points:
    1) "Color" by itself is a dubious panel name. Color of what? Please use the existing CSS property names wherever possible, and separate out background color and border color.
    2) Transparency sliders need to be enabled for all color pickers everywhere in the UI. RGBA everywhere, always. No hex colors, ever, please. There's just no reason anymore.
    2) Border sides need to be separately tweenable in the UI. I've posted about this before. Here's a bit more detail:  Use a 1-to-4 toggle button at the top of the Borders Panel to go back and forth between a simplified and a four-separate-borders interface. Something similar to what you've done in the Corners Panel. I've mocked up the panel UI below.
    4) Hire me as junior interface designer on this program.

    @Sarah:
You're right about selecting opacity in the color picker. That's probably cleaner. But it doesn't bother me in the slightest that a border with an alpha is rendered over the background-color. That's CSS. (Just use a bg color of "none" if that's what you need.)
    In response:
    1) Please don't use CSS "outline" for any heavy lifting in Edge. The interoperability problems are currently massive. For one thing, Firefox draws outlines outside of any box-shadow, contrary to the spec. This bug has festered for three years now, and shows no sign of ever being fixed:
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=480888
The other big limitation is that outline edges are always square, and can't be rounded. To create what you're calling an "external" border just use a box shadow with no blur. This is a standard practice, and renders well. Whatever you do, please don't make a panel called "borders" that actually creates box-shadows. The answer is education and evangelism, not mislabelling things.
    2) Borders don't change the external dimensions of an element if you use border-box globally. Positioning doesn't get the least bit "out of whack." There shouldn't be any trepidation there. This is probably how Edge should work across the board, for all elements, especially if the math of box-sizing is getting you and your engineering team down For folks who aren't hip to this yet, see this fiddle:
    http://jsfiddle.net/tUVM7/
and this explanation of the property:
    http://paulirish.com/2012/box-sizing-border-box-ftw/
Borders and Box-shadow panels need to be in the "frontlog", not the backlog.

  • Feature Request: Proofbooks - Watermarks and Printing to Postscript

When creating proofbooks to be distributed either printed or electronically to clients, it is important to be able to easily print a version of the book with watermarks on all the photographs. This makes it easy and safe to send clients proofs of a book to examine before printing.
It would be nice if I could "print to proof pdf" or something similar from Aperture. PDFs created by Distiller from Postscipt are MUCH smaller then the ones generated by Aperture and other programs. a 51+ MB PDF is fine for the publishing house, but is impossibly large to email to a client for proofing. Another option would be to at least expose the normal "print pdf to postscript" like the normal print dialog does when you have things like Acrobat Distiller installed, so those of us who do have Distiller can make use of it for things like this.
If there are any workarounds people know for these two situations in the meantime I would love to hear about them.
Thank you for a great product.
    Sean

I di dcome up with a workaround for this issue, although it requires Adobe Acrobat and Distiller. I printed a PDF with Apeture that was 54 MB in size. I opened it in Acrobat and used it's watermark feature to quickly watermark each page (not pretty but effective). I then used the "Save PDF as Postscript" to create a large PS file of the PDF (69 MB). I then started Distller with the "Smallest File Size" output settings selected and processed the Postscript file into a nice and small PDF proof version of my book with watermarks. This final proof version was only 1.5 MB and looked just great on the screen.
    Hope this helps others.

  • Feature Request - Storyboard import and Audio Notations

Ability to import and associate sotryboards for scene breakdown. Would be nice to import various graphic formats or even audio notations about the scene to help convey thoughts during collaboration.
Nice preview release. Headed in the right direction.

    HI,
there are some features that could be very usefull :
-Time code counter : would estimate the length of written part, and add this duration in a "counter." hh:mn:ss;fr"
of course in 25, 24,and 29fps and the option to set the initial TC.
-Exporting sound track with various synthesis voices, in the most common audio files .aiff  .wav  .mp3
-Exporting XML timelines to NLE systems ; it would allow the whole team to start working.
Motion graphic designers, music composers, sound editors, could better figure out what the film will be.
The xml file would have audio files associated.  (ie voice over would help a 3D team to sync their animations)
-Perfect interoperability with MSWord and Excel
-a "colors/category" column, user-defined with a sign counter. Would allow to figure out how much "stock shot" / "CGI" / "Robert de Niro" / "underwater"
    is required.
-all commands should be assignable to keys by the user (Final Cut Pro does that very well)
-avoid F1, F2... etc as more and more people use portable computers.
-User defined workspaces : something very light with no disturbing figures or menus for a fluid writing, and something more complete for reviewing periods with statistics, exports etc etc etc

  • Feature request: record calls and messages on iPhone

I'm trying to generate interest for some features I think should be introduced. What do you think of this one...
The iPhone should be able to record calls and messages to save as an audio file on your computer. Aside from providing the ability to keep a personal archive of important or meaningful calls and messages, this introduces another revolutionary new feature:
Imagine if every call you made on your phone was recorded automatically, so you could review what someone said even after hanging up the phone. Each call could be saved in a temporary location, and recordings could be saved permanently by clicking "Save" on the corresponding entry in the call log. This way, you wouldn't ever have to worry about forgetting what someone said, and you can forever save the memorable phone calls that impact your life. This feature would also be extremely useful for recording phone interviews for later review and transcription.
This feature would likely be relatively easy to adopt, and would certainly be a revolutionary addition to a revolutionary device.

Thanks, I already did give Apple feedback though. I was just posting it here to try to generate some more support for the idea. I'm new to the forum, so I'm not sure if this is an appropriate type of thing to post, so please let me know if it's generally not appreciated to put feature suggestions up for discussion.

  • Feature request -- "seamless tones and colors" to content aware move tool

The Content Aware Move Tool works pretty doggone well, except that differences in brightness or tones in the selection's new position frequently fail to match. For instance, moving a bird from near the top of the frame, where the sky is lighter blue, to nearer the horizon in the middle of the frame, where the sky is deeper blue, reveals a huge difference in the sky color. In the past, I would put the selection on a new layer, clone out the bird's original location, then use the Auto Blend Layers>stack images>seamless tones and colors to match things up.
Is there any way of integrating that "seamless tones and colors" into the new move tool? Or, barring that, have some way of selecting "move to new layer" when using the Content Aware Move Tool, so that after the move, one could merge the layers using the Auto Blend function?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

Thanks for the feedback. We will evaluate the customer feedback and consider some of the requests for a future version of Photoshop. I agree with Pierre that posting your request to the feedback link may allow it to be heard better as this is primarily a forum for problems with the Photoshop CS6 beta.

  • Feature Request: Selective Backup and Restore

I know this is a board that apple doesn't answer questions to and blah blah blah but let's not kid ourselves that they don't monitor everything that goes on here; now thats out of the way.
Something that would be really useful would be selective backup/restore. Cuz i'm sure there are times when you what to restore only a specfic app and nothing else, or your messages.
Also if you're cleaning up your device and you accidently delete the wrong app; you will lose all that data with that app but inorder to restore that app and data you have to restore to a pervious backup and go through the process of re-deleting those apps.
Or if you want to restore your apps/data but have your settings start from scratch.
I don't know, I think this type of backup/restore feature could be very useful to alot of people...does any1 else agree?

You face 2 problems: The first is that polls are forbidden by the terms of use of the forum. The second is this:
    Unsolicited Idea Submission Policy
Apple, as with many other companies, do not want outsiders to suggest ideas, because if the company implements the idea they can later be sued for copyright violation or, in the worst case, patent infringement.

  • Feature request: Heading Tags and Paragraph Tags for Text element

Sugestion: Would like to see Reflow be able to format text element with heading tags like <h1> and paragraph tag <p>.

Thanks! Style management and reusable styles are a HUGE feature set coming to Reflow...won't be there immediately but very soon.  Thanks for the input.

  • Tethered Capture feature request - make a 2nd copy

Make a 2nd copy feature is available during import of images, so why not whilst shooting tethered. Would love to see that feature. Please please please consider adding.

Short answer: No. That is the way it is.
Why? The Make Second Copy during Import is designed to be a backup of your memory card processes-not a back up of your files as you store them on disk. It is intended to be a transient copy that allows you an immediate backup until such time as a File System Level backup can be performed, allowing you to have two copies so that you can reformat your memory cards.
I agree it would be nice if the folder storage strategy was duplicated for the backup as it is created for the import but that is not something you can set the program to do currently.  I remember it behaving differently versions ago but do not recall exactly how it used to work.

  • Feature request on iphone and ipad

    Hi
I use to work with 3d models and I'm wondering if the interactive 3d tool that is already available for PC will be available on iphone and ipad, it will be very useful to me to show my clients all my products on 3d.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi whagemann,
We do support viewing of 3d models from Adobe Reader using apps like Hoops Viewer. You just need to install Hoops Viewer https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hoops-viewer/id457991468?mt=8 on your device and then you can do a "Open In" by selecting the 3d model in the PDF in Adobe Reader, which will provide you an option to view that model.
    Thanks,

  • Feature Request: Cloud Based Library Sync

I'd like to request the following feature for Lightroom 5:
Like many photographers, I use a notebook for field trips, and a MacPro for home. Life becomes painful when I come back from a shoot, as I transfer all my images to the MacPro, but still want to keep the ability to edit them on either machine. What I'd like to suggest is a Cloud Service where all of my directories are synced to the cloud, and on each machine, I have the ability to sync any directory down to that machine, and point to a local directory to find the RAW image files. Then if I make a change on in meta data, or develop, those settings (which are small amounts of data) should sync to the other machine via the cloud.
This would be an enormous productivity boost.
    Thank you,
    David

It would be lovely, but even the 100 Mbit lines that are appearing in Korea and other places would be so slow.
I'm sure there is an equation to calculate the time for 16Gb to be passed over at 10/100 Mbit line, but that was not all of my shoot yesterday.
    4 questions for you
Q- How quickly does a your card reader write to your hard drive?
Q - what is the read / write speed of your card?
Q - what is your internet speed rated at?
Q what do you get realistically downloading a large file from a website?
Answers from my ISP and hardware
    A - 1 x 24Mb RAW every 2-4 seconds
    A - rated at 60MB/s
    A - rated at 10Mb
    A - I sometimes get 1000Kb/s
based on my answer 4, a 24 Mb file downloading on my line would take
    24 seconds...
I took 700 photos yesterday, ie ±16 Gb
    24 x 700 = 16,800 seconds or 280 minutes.
    1Gb is taking ±18 minutes
On the assumption you can wait over 4,5 hours to get the images to your large computer which is probably sitting on the desk next to you, (next to your adsl router with network capability) that 16 Gb is just over 2/3 of my monthly ADSL capacity.
Then I want to edit / remove, tweak, make a nice 16bit Tiff of one of the images - 160 Mb....
I've made a pano from 6 images that I combine in Hugin, then take back to LR to edit, its another 16 BIT 14,000 by 3200 px TIFF... 800 Mb - a 15minute upload time.
That and I am not alone as a photographer with having several Tb of images, and that is a fair load of image data. Costly in time to squirt that all to the cloud, and when you hit CMD + S to update all the Metadata when you Geotag 1000's of images, another few days of updating every DNG or RAW/JPEG/TIFF sidecar.
What about your previews, would you keep them local or also on the clould?
You are asking for speeds and power required from a service that are just not available yet and logistically for a while.
    realistic workarounds
    suggestion one
Set up a server at home, with all your images one one large fast stack of hard drives and at least all your images are referenced from one place.
Have you tried working with LR over WIFI..... it is so slow.
speed it up by using network cables.
    Suggestion two
I have all my images on several firewire 800 hard drives and at the moment swap the cables from one computer to another. Using a network cable I would not need to swap the cables over, - but I'd need network capable hard drives which I dont have.
As per the 2 responses above you've hit a physical barrier, pictures move faster thru cables than the air, and putting loads of pictures through the air will be slow, costly and frustrating.
    to the future
Put it in as a feature request for LR6 and hope that in 4 years time that we all have access to 100GBit/1000Gbit dual band bi-synchronous DSL free internet so that them bits can zoom in and out of the cloud at speeds than make thunderbolt look slow. Then we'd be talking, but hey my new Canon D1HhellOfAnAmazingNewNumberingSystem 2016 camera has 800 Mpixels with 20Bits of data for each pixel... each photo is 2000 Mb.....
Maybe there is new hardware around the corner where you can make a local cloud in your home or office  - wifi and network based hard drives? Now all you need is some way of synching the LR5 database.
I will plus one your suggestion and agree there is great merit in it.

  • Feature request / Feedback

First off, WebOS is absolutely hands down the best mobile OS ever. I have an iPhone and an Android ICS tablet. But WebOS is still the best.
I love my Touchpad, and if Pre3s had more apps and weren't so expensive online I would totally buy one and replace my iPhone 4S.
Anyways, a couple feature requests for WebOS, and whoever else wants to add to this thread, I'm sure we can get some great ideas.
    So yeah, First off:
Calendar- It would be great to be able to set a default view. Personally I like Month, so the default is pretty annoying.
Calendar- For some reason the auto correct won't pop up the menu to add a word to the dictionary when making an event, a weird bug lol.
Browser- Have a way to detect Captcha so that the auto correct doesn't try to correct whatever the captcha wants you to type.
Browser- When watching flash videos full screen it locks to one orientation, so you end up flipping the tablet around sometimes, there's got to be a way to correct this.
General- I have a lot of stuff on my 32GB Touchpad, and the 90% warning gets quite annoying, especially since 2.5GB left is plenty for the OS and other stuff.
Auto correct/Dictionary- If there could be a way for the OS to detect words that are missing a space and just auto correct that rather than thinking of it as a wrong word that would be good too. I'm constantly missing the space bar and hitting the bezel of the screen for some reason, even with using the largest keyboard.
Keyboard- If there was a way to make the keyboard transparent with a variable level that would be badass.
Other than that, WebOS is pretty solid. And of course I'm running the latest 3.0.5, keep you the good work! And I can't wait for HP to start building hardware again, I'm sure it will be better the second time around even though its pretty awesome this time too.
