  • IPhone 4S: SMS Messages labelled by phone number not by name

When I send an SMS message from my iPhone 4S it shows up labelled by my contact's name but when I receive a reply, it shows up as a new message labelled by their phone number. How can I fix this?

TheDave, That's correct, I'm sending it to their phone numbers.
    I've figured something out:
When I imported all of my 3G info in the the 4GS, all of my past text messages were labelled by phone number. I read on another post that you could fix the name/number issue by placing a 1 before the phone number. It worked. However, now when any of my contacts call or text message me their names don't display.
I'm going to go back and take all the +1s off to see if that fixes the issue for new calls and messages. Is there anyway to get me old texts to display by name?

  • IPhone3g Cannot send SMS Messages without entering phone number w/area code

i get an error 1121611611 "please enter 10 digit number". The contact i messaged number is 10 digits in my contacts. I hope i dont have to re-enter the phone number with area code for every text message. any solution to this problem, is there a way to automatically include the area code on text messaging? The contact has the same area code as me.
    Thanks

I am having the same problem as well...it seems that for dummies like me who never spent much time texting before I got the iphone that I did not know you had to enter a person's area code also to text them (hence the 10 digit error message).
That said, I, like you, put in the area code and got things to work--problem is when you save to Favorites. So here is what I discovered on my own while chatting with an Apple tech support rep: When you save to Favorites, if the person you are calling/texting has your same area code, the program then deletes the area code prior to dialing and you can't get out. I gave the tip to the tech--she said she would forward it to the appropriate folks. It seems they need to slightly change the code so that Favorites does not eliminate the area code on local calls/texts. I also talked to ATT who said that ideally one should always use the area code for all calls--not sure why as it works just fine to not enter it, but that is what she said.
So my workaround for now is to not have my wife in Favorites so that I can text her--seems to work ok if just dialing from Contacts as long as you have the area code stored with the number in Contacts.
Hope this works for you as it did for me--hope they will address it and fix it.

  • HT201229 I received an unsolicited message from a phone number which I now learn is a trap. I deleted the message and the second copy of the same without replying - there is a suggestion that you ca stop it by replying STOP but messages on the web say thi

    Hello
I received an unsolicited message from a phone number. I deleted it.
A second copy arrived and I deleted that too.
The message says send STOP as a reply and it will be stopped but the web says this is a way to give the sender access to your account and they will charge you £3 every time.
Did i do right to delete it?
How can I block a number?  The system on my iPhone iiOS 8 and Mac Yosemite will not allow it.
How can I change my status (as I do on Skype) to stop these messages safely?
    Anythoughts?

    Why not using ASP?
If on your webpage you have some buttons that runs at server, the server can create a web Client and using your IP address retrieved from the cession, communicate with your application (that will act as web Server).
then the web client on the web server can send request to your VB application and read a stream as response.
This web client being control by the buttons on the web page, gives you complete control over what and when the data is sent
This way you will have a complete control over the VB application from the web page.
I am not saying that the way you want to do it cannot work, ... but it seems more complicated

  • Mail sends messages in the name of one of my contacts not me,this happened a few days ago I can't find where to change it back

a few days ago when I send a message from mail or reply to a message it does so in the name of one of my contacts not me. what do I change to get rid of this problem?

I found the same issue. I went into my yahoo email and did a search for duplicate addresses. Most of those type emails were spam and I think maybe they hacked into my contacts. Once I removed that person the issue was solved. You could add the person again after the issue is resolved.

  • OS X messages. Add phone number?

How do you add your phone number to the messages app. Apple said you could do this when Moutain Lion came out but you still couldn't. I saw that in a recent update (10.8.1) which also added Facebook inergration, it said in the description that the Messages app could now recive messages through your phone number. BUT I STILL CAN'T!!! So what is it?! Does it work, and if so how do you do it?

    HI,
You need OS X 10.8.2 and iOS 6 on the iPhone
Do the Mac first then the iOS 6 update.
As the iOS device reboots you will be asked on your Mac to allow the iPhone Number.

  • Can't send messages through my phone number

When I send a message it's sent through my iCloud email and not my phone number. I went into message settings but it won't let me use my phone number as a option to reach me. Please help.

    Hey there Kcamps,
If I understand correctly you are indeed signed into your Apple ID in Settings > Messages, but your phone number is not checked for use  under You Can Be Reached By iMessage At:. I would sign out of, then back into your Apple ID in both FaceTime and iMessage. That should get your number linked with the Apple ID again:
iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

Ok. You don't have to select your number. Just check your email under your "grey" number and then at the bottom of this page you will see the option "Start new conversations from". Select your number.

  • Feature requests:  block outgoing SMS, unlink cell

I'd love to know how to either submit this as a feature request to Apple, find out how to "fix" it myself, now, or discover how to get Apple to pay my unwanted text messaging costs...
I see, now that I've upgraded to ios 6, that my cell phone's number (I'm on an iPhone 4s) is tied to iMessage.
It would seem, then, that (because I cannot really count on Verizon's SMS block to work, all the time), this may cause me to start getting spam messages from people who are able to discover my phone # ?
Is there any way to NOT link my cell phone number to my iMessaging?  It's NOT listed in my Apple ID profile, but it is entered and checked, on my phone, in iMessage settings.
Those who I want to iMessage me know my apple ID.  Those are the only messages I want to receive.
In addition, Apple, please come up with a way for those of us who do not text (yes, we exist) and who have attempted to get our providers to block ALL (incoming AND outgoing) texts from our phones, to at least block outgoing SMS via your software.
If anyone has any workarounds for me, on this, I'd love to hear them.
    Thanks,
    Em

You cannot stop iMessage from associating your number with your account.  But, you do not have to use that number as your displayed ID on sent messages.  Just setup an alternate email address under callerID and use that (I use my @me.com address as my Caller ID, since I really never use it for anything else anyway).
Note too, that any message sent to your phone number would go through your carriers SMS system anyway, unless specifically sent from another iOS devices.  Most spam emails do not originalte from an iOS device, so iMessage really has little to do with actual spam texts (which are generally sent from computer servers using your [email protected] address anyway).  Your carriers blocks should continue to catch those.
iMessages only work from an iOS device to another iOS device, which does not absolutely mean that there will never be spam iMessage texts, but I'd think they would be few and far between.

  • [Feature request] Changing the y-limit directly in a graph

    Hi,
in the GUI, when using graphs, you can usually click on the ymin and ymax and change the values. This is not possible if LV decides to change which ticks on the axes are labeled.
It would be nice if the behaviour was consistent.
