Feedback on Upgrade to 7.0 Analyzer

This is not a technical question but I am trying to get some general feedback on others
experiences with upgrade from the 3.5 to 7.0 BEx Analyzer tool.
We are currently in process of evaluating the new BEx Tools and in general finding that
while the Query Designer has been improved the 7.0 BEx Analyzer has been totally messed
up at least when comparing to the basic functionality that was available in 3.5 Analyzer.
The 3.5 Analyzer is a very easy to use User Friendly tool and used by most users including
query / design changes in our organization. With the new WAD concepts being introduced in
the 7.0 Analyzer it has become a bit too technical for an average BEx ( non tech savvy )
user to use the tool - not to even mention of the functionality issues when comparing the
tool to 3.5 version.
I just wanted to know if others have had similar experiences and how did they manage user
expectations / SAP's response on issues you've reported in the new 7.0 Analyzer.
I am providing a  few that we have noticed so far.
1.Most users in our organization always navigate through the Analyzer to edit queries.
This is not as easy in the new 7.0 Analyzer where you have to execute a query first
before you can edit it or have another session open for query designer to make changes
but those may or maynot show up in the Analyzer unless you sign out / sign in .
So basically its very cumbersome and not a good move.
2. We are seeing major performance issues with medium to large workbook conataining
anywhere from 10 to upto 50 queries in a workkbook. And there are plenty of these created
by users for analysis and preparing formatetd financial month end packages fo r the execs.
It takes forever to open the workbook to begin with and then to go into/out of design mode is
another few minutes (5-10) .Its absolutely frustrating if you have to make workbook changes.
3. Figuring out when you may or may not see a variable screen popup is a big challenge.
Take a look at OSS Note 1044219 and you'll get the idea.
4. Refreshing individual queries with variables popup in a workbook does not seem to be a possibility anymore.
Please share your experiences if you're planning to or have upgraded to
7.0 version.
Thanks

Hi,
Normally for big workbooks. There is one option in workbook settings Individual query Refresh.
Go to Bex Analyzer -> Design Toolbar -> workbook settings -> General (There you can see allow refresh function for individual query Refresh)
This function helps instead of refreshing whole workbook, user can refresh as per their requirement of query.
Also support pack 10 for frontend helped us a lot. And we are waiting for support pack 11 for bi frontend. It has solution on performance side.
Also Check the oss notes 1040454.
New Bex Analyzer is using memory on below calculation
mem = 100MB + (#rows x #columns) x 0.0016 MB
I hope this helps you.

  • Does anyone have any positive feedback after upgrading to Mavericks?

I have a couple of computers that I bought in February 2012 (iMac, MacBook Pro) running OS 10.7.5, and I'd like to upgrade to Mavericks, but the forum shows all negative experiences with the upgrade, so I'm wondering whether I should wait to install.  Thanks all.
    Take care,
    Brian

Thank you Michel, John, & rgilbert,
I'm neither a technophobe nor technophile--I fall somewhere in between, so I usually wait to upgrade any software until it's been out for a bit, same goes with purchasing hardware.
I work as a photographer, so I have to be able to get around a computer somewhat, and I've never had anything but Macs, which has been since 1992..
Michel, I had 16GB of RAM installed in both my iMac & MB Pro when I bought them, so I'm sitting pretty good for RAM, and I do most of my hardware business with an Apple specialist here in Madison or OWC.
And John, I automatically backup before any major installation, so no worries there.
I have no "crapware," no anti-virus--the only software that would maybe fall under this heading would be TechToolPro, and I don't think that counts.
And of course I know that in most cases folks don't say anything unless they're having a problem, but I always try to say something positive if I can with subjects like this.
I've never had an issue with any upgrades, with the exception of the iOS 7 for iPhone, and 7.0.3 pretty much cleared most of that up.
Two reasons I'm looking at doing it sooner than later: I read an article by another shooter that talked about the improvements in Mavericks for photographers, and I'd like to get familiar with it before I hit the road for a major job in two weeks.
Again, I want to thank you all for your help & time--I really appreciate it.
    Take care,
    Brian

  • Intense FaceTime feedback after upgrade to 10.9

    Hi Folks!
After the update to 10.9, a few days ago, I cannot make Face Time calls without terrible feedback on the other end.. I have tried turning the volume and internal microphone volume way down to zero and moving it up slowly in hope of making it go away. Then selecting the cancel ambient noise option in audio but the other person still hears a pronounced echo and feedback even with the my mic and speaker levels next to nothing..
I don't have any third party audio drivers on this system as I use my Mini for that, so everything is stock.
Before the update, FaceTime worked as advertised and I could turn the volume up to it's limits and literally walk around the house and talk to the person on the other end of the connection on a perfect audio and video connection. The laptop cancelled out well and there was no echo or feedback.
As of the update, that's all gone...
Does anyone have any ideas that might help this problem?
    Thanks!
    2012 15" MBP 2.2 i7 / 16Gb / 512Gb SSD

I don't think this is an issue with audio drivers as there would be a tremendous furor in the community, which there obviously isn't.
That being said, this appears to be a facetime issue as I reverted back to 10.8 last night from a time machine backup and everything worked..
I then tried 10.9 again and the audio was broken.
Don't know where to go from here other than not updating until six or so months in to a new release.
    This is pretty sad...

  • Iphone 3gs Upgrade to 4.2.1 deletes visual voicemail

I unfortunately have just upgraded my iphone 3GS to 4.2.1 and found that my visual voice mail is no longer a feature. When I go to the phone menu screen, the favorites, recents, contacts and keypad still work. When I touch the voicemail icon, it immediately calls my voicemail each time. It does not go to the visual voicemail screen, but instead shows the keypad and is calling my voicemail number. It won't even let me see my saved visual voicemails. This is a pretty big weekend to be out of touch. Is anyone else having this problem? Thank you for any feedback.

I upgraded my 3G to 4.2.1 last night and tried to set individual alert tones for SMS. Well, as everyone here probably knows, that was false advertising by Apple.
I saw the thread here, though, about visual voicemail and checked mine. Sure enough, no go. When I clicked the bottom-right icon for voicemail, it just dialed. I didn't need a PIN, though, it hooked me straight up. I hung up and called voicemail a couple of more times, switched to the contact list and back to voicemail and eventually I got the on-screen prompt for the PIN. I filled that in (and it was maybe a bit lucky I remembered it) and all was well again ... with the voicemail. Saved messages were present.

  • What is the quickest to upgrade disaster recovery system to NW04s in MSCS?

    Hi,
I have an issue which I need assistance from SAP/Windows 2003 experts.
Hope you can share your opinion on  an SAP upgrade issue we're grappling with.
<u><b>Objective :</b></u> Upgrade our SAP Bank Analyzer disaster recovery environment from NW04 to NW04s SR2, to be same as  production.  Both production and disaster recovery (DR) run under two node WIN2003 Enterprise MSCS.  The SAP CI usually runs on node A and Oracle 10g runs on node B.
The Oracle software, parameters,  database files and  the SAP folder \usr\sap are  already matching. These files and folders are  on EMC mirrored disks, so this will  be automatically synchronized from production status.
Therefore  I believe it is only the SAP software components on the local hard disks - binaries, DLLs, registry, DCOM, environment variable etc, that need to be upgraded on the two DR machines.
For your information,  the current SAP 6.40 instance,  Oracle 10g instance, MSCS failover capability are all working in the DR environment as we just did an exercise a month ago to prove this.
    <u><b> Disaster Recovery Environment :</b></u>
On shared drives that are synchronized between prod and DR  : SAP folder \usr\sap including the kernel binaries, Oracle parameter files, database datafiles, redologs, sapbackup etc.
<u><b>Issue :</b></u> What is the <b>quickest</b>  and <b>reliable</b> method to achieve the objective? Other than the SAP kernel binaries and profiles, I'm not certain what other related components are updated/replaced that are stored locally on each of the clustered machine.
There are three different approaches we can think of :
    1) Repeat the whole NW04s upgrade process in the DR environment. This takes several days. The exposure of not having a disaster recovery environment for several days is a minus.
                 <u><u><b>  or</b></u></u>
    2) Un-install the SAP CI and MSCS definitions. Synchronise the DR shared disks from production to have the upgraded production NW04s database contents and SAP folder \usr\sap.
Use SAPINST to re-install either traditional CI or ASCS option 'System Copy". And then re-create the MSCS definitions for SAP CI using SAPINST again.
The disadvantage is I can't trial this in any other of our environments. Also, we want to run with the traditional CI instead of ASCS until early next year for other reasons. So we would have to reverse the ASCS back to traditional CI with this method, by reversing the steps in OSS NOTE 101190 "Splitting CI after upgrade to 700".
                    <u><u><b>or</b></u></u>
    3) Somehow identify all the SAP components that are stored locally on each machine (eg. environment variables, registry settings, DCOM definitions, DLL in various folders). Then just copy  them from Production to DR machines or recreate them. I'm <u><b>not</b></u> confident of identifying the local SAP components. And I have not been able to find any good OSS NOTEs or forum threads on this topic. The most helpful OSS NOTE I can find is 112266  point 13 and 19.
    Thanks for any input.

  • Frequent Rebuild Requires After Upgrade from 9i to 10g

    Hi Friends,
Recently we have upgraded our production database from 9i to 10g and after that the performance of certain queries degraded drastically. when we did a workaround of rebuilding the table and associated indexes for these queries, it performs as fast as 9i.
Can anybody clarify why the same query which was working very fine without rebuild in 9i requires a rebuild in 10g?
Please note that the tables involved in this query are very huge and a frequent rebuild is not a permanent solution for us :-)

  • Upgrading iOS 4 to iOS 6

Hi All, I'm using iphone 4 (factory unlocked) running iOS 4.x and thinking of upgrading it to iOS 6. When reading the forums, I find many negative feedback for upgrading. Can you guys please suggest me whether I can upgrade it to iOS 6? Also please post some helpful links.

You can and should keep your iPhone's iOS current.  To do so, using the current iTunes on your computer (version 11.0.1), plug your iPhone in, let it sync, and then choose "Check for Updates" on the iPhone's summary tab.
You will lose Google Maps and YouTube.  You may get both replaced (for no charge) from the App Store.  In addition, you will get Apple's Maps app.  You can choose to use Apple's maps, Google's maps, or both.

  • Oracle 10g vs Oracle 11g query performance

    Hi everyone,
We are moving from Oracle 10g to Oracle 11g database.
I have a query which in Oracle 1g takes 85 seconds to run, but when I run the same query in Oracle 11g database, it takes 635 seconds.
I have confirmed that all indexes on tables involved are enabled.
Does anyone have any pointers, what should I look into. I have compared explain plans and clearly they are different. Oracle 11g is taking a different approach than Oracle 1g.

  • 1st gen iPod became a paper weight after last update

For the last couple of months, I've posted and read all posts, visited the Apple store three times to check in with the Geniuses, have emailed Apple with feedback, have upgraded and downgraded systems with different OSX versions, have tried 8 different Apple computers including desktops, powerbooks, and mac minis, have tried several PCs as well, have followed pretty much every direction posted here as suggestions to make my 1st generation iPod (5Gb) appear on my desktop. So far, I've been unsuccessful making my iPod one very expensive paper weight.
Apple, please acknowledge there is a problem... I've been to the Apple store geniuses (three different Apple stores) and they have failed to even recognize this as a problem, at some points even hinting I should just exchange it for a newer model... my iPod worked fine before the last iPod updater... and it works fine with the information it has stored now... but all the functionality I bought it for is gone... no transfers to iTunes, no updating my music, no disk mode, no file storage, etc. etc.
I've been an Apple user since the Apple II, have had innumerable apple systems, have recommended whole colleges and universities and other institutions in the US and abroad to switch to Apple... but now... I am starting to ask myself if Apple pays attention when there's a class action lawsuit at their door. I am starting to believe, unfortunately, that this may be the only (and last) resort left for a loyal customer to at least be heard...
As I have found out, I am not alone in this problem. Many users have in fact reported similar problems (just look at the many posts here). I don't expect magical solutions... but at least Apple should acknowledge a problem to its customers through it support channels... these forums, genius bars, etc... And of course, I only want to restore the original functionality of the machine. No one has ever talked about upgrading the iPod in any way or form... but when you go back as far back as OSX 10.0 and OS 8, going through all the different systems in between, all different iPod updater versions, and it still fails to mount then you have to ask what was in that last software update that completely made this iPod unrecognizable. I am aware that different users may have had different experiences with this problem, but I have also found that there are many that share this frustration.
    Apple... please help. Please.

Just thought I should post what I have tried so far with no luck...
    - Deleted the ktext file, as noted elsewhere.
    - Reset the iPod, many times, the menu + play option
    - Also reset the iPod through the following (undocumented, I believe) key strokes... same menu + play, and then immediately press back(left) arrow, forward(right) arrow and select button... this will launch a diagnostics routine... where you can run many different tests... including a Firewire port test (which it passed), a reset, screen, etc... (Use at own risk...)
    - Charged the iPod via the external charger (not the firewire ports of computer) before resetting, and plugging in the computer.
    - Used a Firewire Cardbus controller card on three different PowerBooks instead of (and in addition to) the Firewire port in those computers... this could have been a solution, since the Cardbus card I have is not capable of providing bus power and it has two Firewire ports... but no luck either.
    - Have tried many different iPod updaters, but in none of them the iPod even mounts or is seen, and the menu items update or restore are greyed out. (this includes all 2003, 2004, and 2005 iPod updaters supplied by Apple, including the one introuduced in November 2005)
    - Left computers without connecting the power plug, in some cases overnight, and certainly more than 30 minutes.. .for PowerBooks, also took the batteries off... as stated in other posts... no luck either.
    - Have tried all these in many different Macs... including: PowerMac 8500 with firewire card running OS9.1, OSX 10.2. Quicksilver 733 running 10.3, Gigabit Ethernet Dual 450 running OSX10.3, Gigabit Ethernet Dual 500 upgraded to Dual 1.2 Sonnet running 10.4.3, (downgraded to 10.0, and then through all updates up to 10.4.3 with no luck in neither of those OSXs), eMac running 10.2, iMac G4 running 10.3.9, PowerBook G3 Lombard running OS9.2.2 and OSX 10.2, PowerBook Pismo running OS 9.2.2 and OSX 10.3, PowerBook G4 Ti 1Ghz, running OSX 10.4.3, PowerBook Al 12" 1.3Ghz running 10.3.9 and upgraded to 10.4.3, PowerBook Al 15 1.67Ghz running 10.4.3. I also tested it on two Pcs, one running XP SP2, and the other running XP.
    - Tried 8 different FireWire cables, including 4 bought at Apple stores.
    - Can't get the iPod to go to disk mode either
Due to the different configurations of systems, software, and hardware, it is very unlikely that it is a problem outside of the iPod itself. This problem, in my case, started after I installed an update to the iPod in combination with iTunes 5.01. That leads me to believe that there is something in the code of the update that disabled the Firewire port (not completely, since it seems to charge over firewire, but no software or harddisk utility supplied by Apple or third party vendors "sees" the iPod when its connected via Firewire).
The fact that the iPod still works and plays the music I had then, (although I am not sure if the files other than music that I had stored there, which are the ones I really need to get out of it now, are still there, since I can't get it to go to disk mode) discards many other hardware failures such as a bad hard drive, etc.
If that update that disabled the Firewire ports in some iPods was only intended for the newer machines (which incidentally don't have FireWire ports - and I mention this because some users have had some success when connecting their iPods via USB, not Firewire, a luxury older iPods don't have) - it was never stated. In fact, even the new iPod updater released on November 2005 states (pretty much the same as all others) that it includes changes for certain iPods but for all others it just installs some older version of the firmware with no changes...
Sooo.... Apple ... .I know this is a tricky one, otherwise you would've already come up with a fix... .but please, acknowledge the problem, and state us if you're working on a solution or if we have to start planning on buying a new iPod... (which of course we shouldn't be forced to... )

  • Physical Query in OBIEE 10g vs OBIEE 11g

    Hi Everyone,
We're in the middle of an OBIEE 10g to an OBIEE 11.1.1.6.4 upgrade and as part of our assembly testing we were planning on comparing the physical query generated for a report generated in obiee 10g vs the physical query for a report in obiee 11g.
After a couple reports we noticed that the query structure in 11g is completely different than the query structure in 10g. The reports still generated the same data in 10g vs 11g. So my question is:
    1) is it worth while (or necessary) to do a physical query comparison for an obiee 10g to 11g upgrade? or is validating the front-end report data & drill down/interactions adequate?
    2) what are some general reasons why a query generates differently in obiee 10g vs 11g?

  • Link/checklist for migrating applications from Oracle 9i to Oracle 11g?Help

    Hi all,
We need to perform an impact analysis on migratiing an application from Oracle 9i to Oracle 11g. Does any of you have a detailed checklist to follow, in terms of queries, PL/SQL statements, optimizer etc. etc., when attempting this migration. We require something more specific from the application point of view rather than a DBA point of view.
Additionally, we have queries written extensively with rule hints. Should there be a special consideration for the same since now we are moving to CBO in 11g
Even if any one has a link, that would help. Thank you so much!

    Hi Nikhil,
    Thanks Xaheer,You're welcome :)
I'm going through the link: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10819/toc.htm
But it still mentions stuff from a DBA angle. I need from an application angle.
Do I need to change my queries taht are current written with RBO? Do I need to change Pl/SQL blocks ?Please refer tech below notes:

  • Slowness after installing 8.0.3 hp1

A couple weeks ago we were doing our server upgrades and went to GroupWise 8.0.3 hp1.
Servers are all SLES 10 SP4 with EXT3 file system.
I've got a total of 4 POs - all are different servers and are only running eDirectory and POA.
Prior to the upgrade the nightly maintenance (Analyze/Fix, message/user, structure) took 64, 32, 14, and 1 minutes each.
After the upgrade the nightly maintenance is now at 230, 86, 14 and 1 minutes each. (The 3x increase on the first 2 is the core of my question)
This has also translated into our backups (are taking twice as long on the first 2 servers, no real noticeable change on the other 2).
The weekend process on 1 server (Analyze/Fix, Message/User, Contents , Statistics, and Update diskspace) took 47 hours to complete (it used to be in the 12 hour neighborhood) - the processor actually spent 122 hours processing the job - so it was using multiple threads.
While the maintenance tasks are running the experience on the GroupWise client is slowed but still usable.
Obviously the amount of data and users decreases as I move through the servers but there's a clear cut line in when the issue started appearing.
Does anyone have any thoughts or run into this themselves?

Looking at the one PO that is being the most problematic...
    ofusers
    498 .db files
    24 .$er files
    23 .dba files
    2 .dbb files
    ofmsg
    256 .db files
    15 .$er files
    15 .dba files
    1 .dbb file
Checking the dates all of the non .db files have a date after the upgrade. They aren't all on the same day - some are a couple of weeks old and some are from last night.

  • JAPPLET Application migration from JDK1.2.2_07 to JDK1.4.2_10 - Issues

    Hi
We have a JAPPLET application that is using SWING components. So far the development and maintenance of this application has been done using JDK1.2.2_07. Now we wanted to upgrade to JDK1.4.2_10 for some enhancements to this application. Regarding this upgrade we have the following questions.
1.Does JDK1.4.2_10 have the complete backward compatibility up to JDK1.2.2_07?
2.What sort of possible rework to the existing features required? Main components and features that this application has are menus, tables, tree tables, printing, tabbed and framed views.
3.What sort of upgrades is required for users environment?
I would be very grateful if you could help me with answers to these questions. Also help me with any other suggestions related to this upgrade.
    Thanks & Regards

Yes you can use SPA to do the test even if you are on RBO on 9.2.0.8..0.
It is not necessary to go in cbo before the test.
Use metalink Note.562899.1 TESTING SQL PERFORMANCE IMPACT OF AN ORACLE 9i TO ORACLE DATABASE 10g RELEASE 2 UPGRADE WITH SQL PERFORMANCE ANALYZER
You will need to put your optimizer statistics gathering strategy in place and tune the sqls on 10.2.0.4.0 using cbo. SPA will help in doing the testing.
you can validate the outcome of your tuning actions using SPA and even use sql tuning advisor to tune some of the sqls, if needed.
    Hope this helps.

  • Will CS6 feel at home on my old iMac 24 ?

I purchased the CS6 from CS4 upgrade to meet Adobe's deadline, but I read somewhere that CS6 requires Lion and a minimum of 4Gb of RAM in the system. My iMac with 2.16 MHz Intel core 2 duo is already slow with Photoshop CS4, as it won't make use of more than 3 Gb of RAM, and also I wish I could stick to Snow Leopard for a little while longer to be able to still use Golive. Should I give it a go and install the suite anyway, or is it a dead move?

I thought that I should give some feedback after upgrading from 10.5.8 to 10.6.8 and installing CS6. Everything works fine so far, including Golive 8. The 64 bit Photoshop CS6 is even slightly faster than CS4 on my old gear, or maybe it's the new "work while save file" feature that produces that impression. I have had to renounce  some plug'ins and filters that were not written for 64 bits, but I can still launch CS4 and use them there when needed. The main issue is with the  RAM, which is limited to 3 GB on that iMac. Have to be careful about unnecessary apps and close unneeded files not to choke the system, but this was with CS4 already. Bottom line, quite usable even with third parties filters, but very slow on large files.
