Fetching required num of rows from database

i have a database and table in it stores around 256 values it has three fields (channel number,Value,Date&Time) i just need the value ie; second column and that to the first 64 values in database pls can i have a valuable solution from anybody it will be a great help and i need it urgently.Thanks in advance......

In order to provide a more direct answer you will need to provide more details. What kind of database? What do you mean by the "first 64 values"? Is this the first 64 ordered a certain way, or the first 64 that happened to have been entered into the database?
In general you can use LabSQL to access databases. You will need to specify a query string to get your values. Something like (for SQL) "SELECT TOP 64 Value FROM MyTable ORDER BY ..."

You mean when you click on the hyperlink you want that row to disappear from the page, but not delete the row from the database until a commit/submit button is pressed?
Personally, I think I'd prefer that you have a delete checkbox next to every row and NOT remove them from the display if I was a user. You give your users a chance to change their mind about their choice, and when they're done they can see exactly which rows will be deleted before they commit.
You know your problem, of course, so you might have a good reason for designing it this way. But I'd prefer not removing them from the display. JMO - MOD

I have a table component that its content change by diffrent links.
in this table i have a hyperlink in each row to deleting that row from dataBase.
so i must get the current row .
i do it like this:
define a rowset in the page that have a delete query :
delete from response where responseID=?
in action of delete hyperlink ,i have:
Integer responseId=(Integer)responseDataProvider.
getValue("#{currentRow.value['responseID']}") ;
getSessionBean1().getResponseRowSet().setObject(1,responseId);
getSessionBean1().getResponseRowSet().execute();
but in first line occure a exception:

by using data table
first you should get current record (row that recived action)
then delete it by using data provider.
I do not think that you could execute delete statement using rowSets because they just can provide Select statements.

Fetching more than one row from a table after selecting one value from the dropdown

Hi Experts,
How can we fetch more than one row from a table after selecting one value from the dropdown.
The scenario is that I have some entries in the dropdown like below
A               B               C
11256          VID          911256
11256          VID          811256
11256          SONY      11256
The 'B' values are there in the dropdown. I have removed the duplicate entries from the dropdown so now the dropdownlist has only two values.for eg- 'VID' and'SONY'. So now, after selecting 'VID' from the dropdown I should get all the 'C' values. After this the "C' values are to be passed to other methods to fetch some data from other tables.

I hope I understand your request proberly, since this is more about Java and less about WebDynpro, but if I'm wrong, just follow up on this.
Supposed you have some collection of your original table data stored in variable "origin". Populate a Hashtable using the values from column "B" (let's assume it's Strings) as keys and an ArrayList of whatever "C" is (let's assume String instances, too) as value (there's a lot of ways to iterate over whatever your datasource is, and since we do not know what your datasource is, maybe you'll have to follow another approach to get b and c vaues,but the principle should remain the same):

private Hashtable temp = new Hashtable<String, ArrayList<String>>();
// Then, in the method you use to retrieve backend data and populate the dropdown,

After the user selects an entry from the dropdown (let's say stored in variable selectedB), you will be able to retrieve the collection of c's from your Hashtable

Use Preparedstatement to delete several rows from database

Hello everyone,
I am trying to delete multiple rows from database at one time using Preparedstatement.
It works well when I tried in SQL directly,the sql query is as follows:
delete from planners_offices where planner ='somename' and office in ( 'officeone', 'officetwo', 'officethree')
I want to delete those 3 rows at one time.
But when I am using preparedstatement to implement this function, it does not work. It did not throw any exception, but just does not work for me, the updated rows value always returns "0".
Here is my simplified code:

the setString function in a preparedStatement doesn't just do a replace with the question mark. It is doing some internal mumbojumbo(technical term) to assign your variable to the ?.
If you are looking to do your statement, then you will need to put in the correct of # of question marks as you need for the in clause.

   First get the data into the INTERNAL TABLE from the FLAT FILE and read the internal table using the index.
    ex: 1) Read table ITAB index 10.
          2) Read table ITAB index 20.
or use as said by Srinivas Gurram, to get the range of records using where condition to the loop.

In each row of your table, you need to construct a HREF that submits to a servlet (or JSP) with a GET parameter that references the primary key for that row, e.g.

Custom database functoid to return multiple rows from database

Hi,
I have created a custom database fucntoid to execute a stored procedure which returns just single row from the database.But I could not manage to return multiple rows from the database.
Does anyone know how to return multiple rows from DB and create a node with that many occurrences in the target schema?

If you want to do this in messaging-only way without orchestration, then only option let to you is using .NET in BizTalk:
We had similar requirement with one of our clients, where they didn’t want to use orchestration (though we emphasised on less impact orch would have compared to manageability),
they still wanted to have pure-messaging only.
We extended the custom XslTransform component that ships with BizTalk SDK (<BizTalk installation directory>\SDK\Samples\Pipelines\XslTransformComponent)).
Created a custom disassembler pipeline component, used the XslTransform component from SDK to execute the map’s XSLT. Here we created a map with every links except the database ones. After executing the map, access the database, execute the store procedure
which returns more than one row/dataset, enrich the XSLT transformed message with the dataset from your database in disassembler.
Since .NET gives you the flexibility of access the dataset with more than one row, you can enrich the message in custom pipeline code.
Other option is code the message transformation completely in .NET code in custom disassembler by passing the received message to method/code which would code the map/enrichment.
While enriching you can execute the store procedure which returns more than one row/dataset, enrich the message further with the dataset from db.

I did "Wrap in subfrom" on the table, set subform of the table to "flowed", and checked "Repeat row for each data item" of Row1 of the table.
But I can get only one row on the table object.

best practices when deleting multiple rows is to do this on the business service, not the view layer for performance reasons. When you selected the rows to delete and press submit, then in a managed bean you access thetable instance (put a reference to a managed bean from the table "binding" property") and call getSeletedRowKeys. In JDeveloper 11g, ADF Faces returns the RowKeySet as a Set of List, where each list conatins the server side row key (e.g. oracle.jbo.Key) if you use ADF BC. Then you create a List (ArrayList) with this keys in it and call a method exposed on the business service (through a method activity in ADF) and pass the list as an argument. On the server side you then access the View Object that holds the data and find the row to delte by the keys in the list

Earlier i was using same variable SEL in internal table and as a selection column as well. In that case, it was marking SEL as 'X' even when document was selected.
Today, i tried making selection column name as 'MARK' and internal table field name as 'SEL', it is working fine. I am able to read table control lines where MARK equals 'X'.

How to delete a row from database table in facade client

Hi all,
I followed the tutorial in creating a persistence entity from database table, then a session facade. Then I followed the tutorial to create a sample client to test the model. In the session facade, I could use persistEntity method to insert a record to the database. I am just thinking of an extension to the tutorial, i.e., being able to delete the record too. So I created a new method removeEntity in the session facade

em.remove(entity);
em.flush();
and called it in the sample client. It was executed without any error, but the record in the table still exists.
I tried to look around for a solution, but I did not find one. Would anybody here please help out? Many thanks in advance!

Get exact row from database table

This is part of my source code that displays one row from getQuest recordset. Always first.

Can i change it so, that on this page it always displayed row with exact position in the table - for example second or 15th - independently of row contents and rows deletition, moving or changing in table?

But if I add 5 rows to table, then delete all of them and add 5 again - auto incremented id will 6 for first in table and 10 for last. If i delete all and add 5 again it will be 11...15 and so on. As I said - I cannot rely on row contens - because I'm planning to delete and add data from that table frequently. Or other solution could be to allways keep id from 1 to [amount of rows]. I do not know how this is done.
Or am I wrong about id?

the data comes from external source and updating the database, at the same time i've to read only first two rows, plz explain.

I am new to JDBC. I have a table containing more than 10,000 rows. I don't want to fetch all of them at one shot, because it takes too much time and consumes too much memory. I want to fetch 500 rows first to return to end user. When end user wants more, I fetch subsequent 500 rows until all 10,000 rows are fetched. But how to do this in JDBC? The most difficult thing to me is how to remember the fetched position so that I can fetch each 500 rows subsequently. Could someone help me on that? Sample code is better. Thank you very much.

When you instantiate your (prepared) statement, specify a scrollable resultset --

Need to fetch the last record/row from a table

Hi,
I have a requirement like fetching the closing balance of the last record of the table and inserting the same into the opening balance of the immediatetly created next record.
In simple words, I need to fetch a value from the last row of the record.
For example, I use the below query,
select rownum, empno, ename from emp
where rownum = (select count(rownum) from emp);
But, the above query does not return any of the record.
Hence, need help on this.

Rows in a table are inherently unordered. In order to introduce the concept of "first" and "last", you would need to specify how to order the rows which would require that there was one or more columns in the table that you could order by in order to determine the "last" record.
In your closing balance example, if we assume that there is something like a BALANCE_DATE column,
SELECT account_number, balance_amount, balance_date
FROM (
    SELECT account_number,
           balance_amount,
           balance_date,
           rank() over (partition by account_number order by balance_date desc) rnk
      FROM table_of_balances )
