File dependency fulfilled, but service still offline.
A service test-app is enabled, and it's file dependency is absent.
It goes into offline state as one would expect.
# svcs -x /site/test-app

Impact: This service is not running.Then I made the file available, and expected that the service now would try to go online. But nothing happend. Still offline...

A svcs -l shows that the file dependency is online:

If I do a svcadm refresh /site/test-app or svcadm disable/enable the service goes online.
A svcadm restart /site/test-app doesn't change anything.
In the smf-man page it says:
Service instances may have dependencies on services or files.
When the dependencies of an enabled service are not satisfied, the service is kept in the offline state.
When its dependencies are satisfied, the service is started.
If the start is successful, the service is transitioned to the online state.
I also tried to replace the file-dependency with a service-dependency, and then it worked just perfect.
Please tell me if I have completely misunderstood this, or if it could be a bug with the file-dependencies.

While that bug exists and explains why "restart" didn't behave the same as "disable/enable" the other problem isn't strictly a bug, but a limitation.
SMF does not continuously re-evaluate file dependencies to see if it should online/offine services. So touching a file is never supposed to bring a service online.
File dependencies are only evaluated during service transitions. Not continuously like service dependencies are. It's been discussed about trying to do that, but constantly reading a filesystem tends to be very expensive. The documentation might need to be more explic
it about this.

Audio waveform disappears when opening file to edit but audio still there
I recorded an interview in AA and saved it. Had the waveforms there when recording, but after saving, I came back in the next day and opened the file to edit it down and I could hear it, but couldn't see the waveforms. Had this happen a couple of years ago and the guy that fixed it then didn't show me how to do it and he is no longer with the company. Any help?
This may be a problem with the .pk files associated with the audio recordings. .pk files store a representation of the waveform for fast display in the application and can safely be deleted so that they are re-generated the next time the files are opened in Audition.
To try resolving this, open the folder that contains your .WAV recordings and look for the .pk files for each. It will have a much smaller filesize. Move these files to a different location or to the Recycle Bin (don't delete them just yet in case there's any confusion about which file is which.) Then relaunch Audition and open the recordings. It should regenerate the .pk files and you should be back to normal. -
I have double, triple checked to script and I can't find any errors.
The only thing I might be unsure of is the actual site that I am listing. I tried https://www.webmail.????.com and I tried https://www.????.com. Is it that its a secure site? HELPDid you try to use the keyboard instead (Cmd+V and Cmd+X and Cmd+C)?
Maybe Shift + Insert works as well on Mac (does work on Windows and Linux).

my tech service deleted thunderbird because we don't support it, but I still prefer it AND it had ALL of my addresses on it. Is there any way to get it back?
Thunderbird consists of a program (installed under Program Files) and your data, which you can find in your profile folder (explained [[Profiles TB|here]].
As long as you still have your profile data, it'll be back once you reinstall Thunderbird.
You could even run Thunderbird off a USB thumb drive if you prefer. -
I click on itunes and this error comes up but it still opens it, "The Disc "Content" cannot be read. A folder was specified instead of a file". So what do I do to get rid of it.
I've encountered this same problem on multiple occasions. Sometimes it will happen for days at a time, then stop for months, then start happening again without rhyme or reason.
This last bout has been the most severe, as my extensive library of movies (one one external HDD) and music (on another external HDD) wouldn't show up in iTunes. After reimporting and losing the library file again I started digging a bit deeper into solutions.
I'm a few hours (hopefully it will stick) and many changes into reconstructing a new iTunes library file after having found a useful solution:

I tried to choose my old .itl when prompted; it wasn't recognized. I then created a new library in a new folder (iTunes 1, as suggested) and repeated the "choose library" step. The new file was recognized. In the past I would change my media folder location in iTunes preferences depending on whether I was importing music or movies. I've decided to leave that at the default location, but have unchecked the copy to media folder option in preferences. I'm hopeful that manually managing where the media are stored and where iTunes looks for them will permanently solve the problem.
Take all of this with a grain of salt.... I hope it helps. Let me know if any of my steps are unclear or if you have any questions.

How do I clean up mail in my icloud? I have already deleted old mail (from all my e-mail accounts) on all devices, and emptied the junk & deleted files, but it still shows that I am at max on my icloud. What do I do to free up space? (photos & apps do not take up that much room). When I go to manage storage on any device & it will display how much room each program or app is using, it still shows that my e-mail is taking up the most room. Is there a way to actually log on to the icloud server to manage what it stored there? If so, how do I do it? Also, on a related subject, why does my mail not sync accross all devices? ie. when I delete an email on one device, why do I still see it on all my other devices? How can I change this?
I have an iphone5, ipad2, ipod 4th gen, ipod 3rd gen, all running on my same apple id - but I have a PC not a Mac home computer - is this part of the problem? Looking to upgrade to a Mac sometime this year...

Mail is backed up automatically. If you make backups automatically, open Mail application and then, open the Time Machine app (in /Applications/Utilities). You will access to the Time Machine interface, and you will be able to see all your mails of all the backups you have, and you will be able to restore them. It means that your mails are backed up onto the Time Capsule -
i cant access firefox, everytime i try i get that windows can't find the file, i tried downloading it again but it still gave me the same message. the problem has nothign to do with my internet because it wonks on internet explorer and everythign is fine, my computer just can't access firefox for some reason. i tried uninstallign ti adn then installing it again, but that didnt work, i tried installing a different version and it still didnt work.
okay the exact message is" Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files\Mozilla Forefox 4.0 Beta 1\firefox.exe'. make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.
Nothing happens after i install is the "Launch Firefox now" checkbox set, the same message comes up.
i usually start firefox from the shortcut i have on my desktop but when this happened i thought that the shortcut is the problem, but i went to the Mozilla firefox folder and tried it from there, but it didnt work. i also tried downloading different versions of firefox but that didnt work either.can you tell me the solution to "windows cant find firefox" error. thanks.

I changed my Apple ID on all my devices and services but iCloud still shows my old Apple ID. How can I get it to update?
I asked the Apple Tech support people and their advice worked for me, it's a setting on the iPad itself. see below.
Follow the below instructions to sign in with your new account name.
1) From the home screen, tap Settings
2) Tap Store
3) Tap Sign Out
4) Tap Sign In
5) Enter your current account name "xxxx" and your password and tap OK.
If you are still unable to change the sign in name on your iPad, please sign into your account on your computer and then sync the iPad so the changes will be updated.

I have had an iphone2,iphone3gs and now i have the iphone 4s for about 8 weeks,first my battery got extremely hot and then i had to regularly reset the network settings to get a decent edge or 3G connection.
now since i have had the phone it has jumped between edge and 3G to the point of me wanting to throw it against a wall,but the last week i have had the phone jump between between no service and edge signal(mostly no service)so here is a list of everything i have done but its still not working:
1)reset network settings
2)reset entire phone from general settings
3)hard reset from pressing home and lock button simultaneously
4)loaded new ios5.1
5)fooled around with every possible setting putting it on and off checking for signal
6)and no,its not my sim,its a brand new microsim.
i got some signal this morning when i put the 3G off(because you can now do that with new ios5.1) long enough to download an app from the i store(i had to because when i tried to open up an app from my home screen it doesnt open,looks like its about to open then just closes itself immediately.
does anyone else have these problems,im frustrated with this,im a looooong time apple and mac user but im getting fedup right now,istores are also clueless...some more info which would most likely help...
i am in south africa and currently on the mtn network,network is fine as no one else is experiencing internet problems.
also currently after doing everything i could think of,my iphone 4s is now just saying searching constantly....no service whatsoever no matter what i do.

I upgraded my old mac to snow lepord and now when i try to play music in my i tunes it says "file can not be located" but it still lists all of my music
Use Spotlight Search (the magnifying glass on the top right-hand corner of your menu bar) to locate your music files. Then point iTunes to those files.

Printer connected to Airport Express USB port won't come online after firmware 7.6 upgrade. I've tried backing up to 7.5.2, but it still shows offline. It is a Canon iP4600 printer and I'm running OS 10.6.8. I've powered everything down and still no go. I've connected the printer directly to my MacBook's USB port and it works fine. Any suggestions?
I have an iP4500, which I assume is quite similar to your model.
I had to reset the printing system to get things printing again. Only takes a few minutes and no problems at all since I did it a week ago or so.
Plug the printer into the USB port on the Express and restart the printer.
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock) and then open Print and Fax
Right-Click in the printer area on the left and select Reset Printing System
Then click the + (plus) button at the bottom of the printer list to install the printer again. -
Downloaded the output file for bridge, but still can't find output option in bridge?
I bought photo shop for a photography class and was told I needed to install the output plug-in in order to make a PDF file for the class assignments. I followed the steps and put it in the correct folder but it still isn't showing up as an option when I go to change my workspace. This is getting aggravating.

I am getting an error message with my snap scan ix500 that says the Evernote is not installed properly when I try to transfer it. I have uninstalled/reinstalled evernote and the scan snap softward but it still doesn't work. Anyone know where evernote stores their files on a Mac? Or had this problem.

I have intermittent problems attaching files in Yahoo mail and this is usually the reason. I'm also using an iMac (10.7.3) and this is likely the problem.
It is generally a Yahoo issue rather than a Mac problem. -
My file names have disappeared in grid view. Thery have been replaced with a dark bar along the bottom of the previews. If I toggle using the command u it hide the bar but I still can't see the file name. In list view all the file names are OK.
The dark bar is caused by the option "Show metadata below image".
Check the settings for the metadata overlays in Grid view (basic and expanded) by clicking the little "badge" icon below the Browser and selecting "Edit". Is the filename still enabled in the list? And in a high enough position to have precedence for other metadata tags, if the space does not suffice to show all selected tags?
