File location resets

I changed the location of my iTunes files but every time I restart my computer, it resets to the default location.
Is there any way to make this a permanent change?
I have my music on a network, rather than on my local computer due to the number of songs.

  • Must I reset file locations one by one?

When I first set up iTunes, the music stored on my C: drive was very unorganized. I did not worry about it because I had fewer than one thousand songs. Now that my library has grown, I am suffering from a poorly organized library. When I go to change the file location of these imported songs on iTunes, I cannot reset in bulk. Only song-by-song, which is dreadfully time consuming for over 2,000 songs. Is there any way iTunes will allow me to reset entire folder locations according to artist name????? Please help!

I have my own views about letting iTunes organise the music library in previous posts. If you clear your library you should be able to just go to file add folder to library. Go to the top folder where your music is stored and it should add it, you can do this even if you have more than one place where your music is stored.
The iTunes music library is just a set of links at the end of the day, if the name of the file (filename not artist or title etc) or it's location has changed then iTunes cannot find it unless you point to it individually or by adding a folder. The other added problem is that iTunes has embedded into it this notion that when you remove a "link" from the library you also want to delete the actual file from your hard drive.
I reload my library about once a month, this mends any broken links I might have missed. I have two music library folders, one of them is the iTunes default library, the other is where I keep my music. The default library is always empty and I load iTunes from my own folder. In doing this iTunes never askes me to delete music from the hard drive because as far as it is concerned there is no actual music on the system (it's library is empty).
Why do I bother to do this, well I like my music organised and the "filenames" to include track artist and title (this also matches the mp3 tags). My music is not tied to iTunes in any way, I can just as easily use another music manager if I want to. Lastly I feel I am in control of my system and not iTunes, it does what I want not what it wants.

  • How do I change the pre-filled file location when I choose Save As?

    16 September 2013
Using Windows 7 Home Edition and Firefox 24.0
I always want Firefox to offer a location when I download stuff. At the moment it fills the Save As file location with a location I never use and it is the same one every time, and I don't know how to stop this from happening. How can I teach Firefox to fill the Save As location with another file location, for example Desktop?
NB This is absolutely not about setting the default under
    Tools/Options/General/Downloads/Save Files To...
although everyone automatically assumes it is.
Background: After using Firefox for a few months on my Windows 7 machine, I then imported old Firefox settings from a VISTA machine.

You may want to reset the prefs file, it should show the last place you saved a page from.

It could not be ruled out it may help.
A clean reinstall may solve the issue and so could be tried but not as a first step and take care with what you do.
#First I suggest you '''back up your current profile'''. <br />Do this before trying even a new profile. You want to make sure you do not lose data such as bookmarks passwords or settings, or if you do that you may recover them. • ITunes repeatedly looses file locations of some songs

I recently had to move my music files to a new external hard drive. After getting everything moved over and changing the settings, I can now listen to import most music just fine. However, each time I try to sink my iPod, the program manages to loose about 200 songs (out of many, many more than that). Even if I individually reset the file location, the next time I synch, files are missing again. Most of the time, the files are similar, but sometimes it seems like new, random files are the ones that are lost. The files remain in their original location on the external HD, it's just that iTunes seems to have forgotten what that location was. Luckily, it seems I can still listen to my music on my iPod, and nothing is ever deleted from my HD, but it is rather annoying seeing 100 new exclamation points all the time. Any suggestions?

I have a similar issue. I moved my music folder to a new internal drive on my PC. Now, though I can see my playlists and all 8,000 songs listed in iTunes, every song has the exclamation mark. I can can go one by one and redirect iTunes to find it on the new drive, but have been unable to get the settings to work in Preferences and Advanced tab for "consolidate library". I DON't want to just create anew library if that means losing all the ratings/etc I have spent time on with the original database.
Do you think the instructions you give here will work for me too?
    Thanks!

  • Change file location

There's been a lot written on how to move an iTunes Media library, I haven't seen anything for a situation that I'm trying to resolve.
I'd like to move some of my movie files from an internal drive folder to an external NAS box.  The library of movies would be split between these two drive locations.  Consolidating onto one drive is not an option.
The problem is that when I move the movies to the NAS box, OS X does not update the file location within iTunes and then iTunes reports them as missing, forcing me to manually restablish the new file location for each movie that I moved.  It will take far to long for me to do this based on the number of movies I'm moving.
After I move the movies, I could import them back into iTunes to establish the new drive location, however this has the disadvantage of resetting stats on those movies and iTunes treats them as 'new' rather then previously viewed, and date stamps are reset as well (Recently added).
Are there any tricks or utils that I could use that would allow me to only update their new file locations on the external hard drive?
And to clarify, all my music, and movie files are not imported and managed by the itunes Media folder.  The options "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" are not checked on.  I'm also using the latest versions of OS X, iTunes etc.
    Thanks for any help.

Doug's script Re-locate Selected would let you move all the movies into a single folder. Altenatively you could declare a new media folder on the NAS drive, decline when iTunes offers to consolidate, select just the files that you want to move, right/ctrl-click and select Consolidate from the context menu. Reset the media folder when the consolidate process completes, again cancel any prompt to copy files to the media folder. This will create copies in the new media folder but you will have to tidy up the originals by hand.

  • When I download firefox, using recommended setting, or my own, all the sub files/folders like plugins, modules, updater end up on the desktop as well as in the file location. And when I try to put them into the file location, they don't. And when I delete

When I download firefox, using recommended setting, or my own, all the sub files/folders like plugins, modules, updater end up on the desktop as well as in the file location. And when I try to put them into the file location, they don't. And when I delete them, FireFox won't open. I tried deleting FireFox and reinstalling it multiple times, and a message pops up sometimes that says FireFox may not have installed correctly, so I follow the steps, but all the extra icons on my desktop don't go away. This has happened every time I have downloaded FireFox. The browser itself works, but I need to know how to get rid of these icons, but still be able to use FireFox. This is on a new computer, with Windows 7.

  • File location and name

If I use iPhoto to import files from my camera where are the files actually stored and how do I change the actual file name? I have figured out how to change the picture title but it does not change the file name.
If I use iPhoto to import pictures from the hard drive do they get copied to the iPhoto file location or just linked? When I moved to the mac I created a folder named "old laptop stuff" and moved everything to that folder. I am now trying to organize all of this stuff on the mac. Can I delete the picture files from the old laptop stuff folder after using iphoto to import and organize them?

    Hi Dispatcher,
Where are the files stored? Take a look at the screenshot.
iPhoto 6 Library folder in the Finder
As you can see the structure is now related to rolls. Rolls are created for each folder you import and each import session from a camera.
It is very easy to change the names of film rolls within iPhoto to make them easier to find images within. Open the info panel in iPhoto by clicking on the "i" icon. Once it is opened, click on the roll title in the viewing window.
Click on the word "title" in the info pane and type in your new title. I like to use a date and text format such as 12/25/05 Christmas at Mom's, 1/05/06 my birthday, etc. Once the roll names are changed within iPhoto, they are also changed within the Finder, making it easy to locate an image.
When importing from a camera, make sure you name the roll with a date and text before the import.
You can add titles in iPhoto, but as you found out only iPhoto sees these new titles. To do what you want you have to name the photos before importing into iPhoto. Either download to the computer with your camera software or use Image Capture (found in your Applications folder) to download the photos.
Launch Image Capture (keep the little window open that says no camera is connected or IC will quit if you close the window)
Go to Image Captures preferences and choose what you want to happen when a camera is connected.
Next time a camera is connected, if you chose Image Capture to open, then IC will open and download the photos.
Rename your photos then import them into the library
You can choose to do it either way when you first use iPhoto (this is new in version 6)
If you choose to copy into the library when importing, then the photos are copied into the library (iPhoto Library folder in the Finder)
After you have imported all those folders of images, you can then delete the folder.

  • How can I find Bitlocker External Key File location?

My Windows 8.1 PC includes a system drive and data drives. All the drivers were encrypted using Bitlocker with the data drives set for autounlock.
I recently decrypted the system drive (without decrypting the data drives) and reinstalled the OS, after which my data drives required the Bitlocker recovery key to unlock.
However, I had "backed up" the recovery keys to my Microsoft account but now I can find only the recovery keys for the system drive. The recovery keys for the data drives cannot be found on my Microsoft account.
I have tried to use the "manage-bde" command at the console to obtain the recovery password but I am only getting the Numerical Password ID and the External Key File Name. Can anyone provide advice on how I can retrieve the passwords or the
    External Key File location?
    Thanks.

    Hi Ridgewood,
As my point of viewer, the BitLocker Automatic unlock volume is also protected by BitLocker Disk Encryption. The user encrypted information is stored in the registry and volume metadata. After a user unlocks the operating system volume, BitLocker uses the
encrypted information to unlock the data volume automatically.
After the reinstallation of the system, the encrypted information is lost and BitLocker can’t unlock the data volume automatically.
Every volume has own recovery key.
As mentioned in your post, the data drive require the recovery key to unlock.
I suggest you to double-check the OneDrive and try to find out where did you store the recovery key.
If you can’t find the recovery key, we can’t help you to decrypt the data volume.

  • Need advice on retrieving Bitlocker Key or External Key File Location

My Windows 8.1 PC includes a system drive and data drives. All the drivers were encrypted using Bitlocker with the data drives set for autounlock.
I recently decrypted the system drive (without decrypting the data drives, <very bad>) and reinstalled the OS, after which my data drives required the Bitlocker recovery key to unlock.
However, I had "backed up" the recovery keys to my Microsoft account but now I cannot find them.
I have tried to use the "manage-bde" command at the console to obtain the Recovery Keys but I am only getting the Numerical Password ID and the External Key File Name. Can anyone provide advice on how I can retrieve the recovery passwords
or the External Key File location?
Before I had set the data drives to autounlock I had used a recovery password to unlock the drives. However, now when I try to unlock the data drives only the recovery key (which I don't have) is being requested not the password.
    Thanks.

    Hi HMcBean,
How did you back up the BitLocker recovery key? To local computer, flash driver or Microsoft account?
If you backed up the recovery key to a Microsoft account, please refer to the following article to find it.

  • Windows 7 ultimate task manager can not open file location

hi, I just re-installed the Windows 7 Ultimate on my laptop several weeks ago, everything goes well until I find this error. When I open Task Manger and right click one process, then an error occurs when I click "Open File Location". It shows as
    "taskmgr.exe
This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel."
There is no any information in the windows event log about this error and I try to search online but without any solution. Could anyone help me figure this out? TIA!

    Hi,
Since it prompts that it is related with file association, you can try fixing it.

  • Crystal Report 2008 - File Locations

I'm running out of space on the OS partition (C drive) and want to change the default location(s) in Crystal Report so when reports are created and run,  they use space on the D drive.

    Hello,
Not exactly clear what you want? Save your reports to your D drive would be my first guess.... If you are referring to the \temp folder then change your system Environment Variable from the default to d:\temp and also change the TMP to d:\Tmp.
You could even set your Swap file to d drive also. I suggest you contact your IT department or search Microsoft's site on how to optimize hard drive space when it's limited. PLEASE back up everything first before making changes to your swap file location, if you don't do it right you may not be able to start windows.
    Thank you

  • How can I set the workgroup templates file location in Office 2013 to point at a folder stored on Sharepoint (2010/2013)?

    Hi All,
Been doing quite a bit of research on this but drawn nothing but blanks or alternative suggestions, none of which are viable.
So the outline of the issue:
Deploying Office 2013 suite to organisation and wanting to have custom templates available for users to choose from, but want those templates to be centrally stored and managed on a SharePoint site.
In Word 2013, for example, when you create a new document, you are presented with a page to choose from 'Featured' templates (or blank document)
So, if you wanted to have custom corporate templates, you could modify the file location for work group templates, thus creating a Custom Office Templates folder locally on your PC.
Great. This means when you select 'New' in Word 2013 you can pick from the 'Featured' templates, or the 'Personal' templates area.
However, I have a collection of test corporate templates (for Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc). These are stored on a SharePoint site internally.
If I try to modify the work group templates location in Word 2013 to point towards my SharePoint site (or any HTTP address for that matter) it won't work.
I know that I could point it towards a Network Share location instead, but I don't want to do that.
Is there any way of getting it to point towards a SharePoint site, any way of modifying it? Or perhaps an even better solution that I could use?
Any help, thoughts or ideas would be massively appreciated! And forgive me if any of my logic is off, but it does seem like this should be a straight forward thing to do given that Office and SharePoint are both developed by Microsoft and you
would like to think they would inherently have better links!
NOTE: Going to Office 365 is also not an option either!
Eagerly awaiting an answer from someone incredibly clever!

    Hi Tony,
Thanks for your response but this is not what I was looking for.
Those articles relate to setting a default template in a SharePoint document or form library.
I will try to be more concise.
    What I want is:
    (1) For users to be able to load MS Word 2013 on their laptops/desktops (connected to corporate Wireless/LAN)
    (2) Once they have opened MS Word 2013, I want them to be able to choose a template from the welcome screen. (There are MS Word Defaults like 'Blank Document' or 'Cover Letter' etc)
I want to add a second tab which is called 'Personal' or 'Corporate'.
    (3) MS Word 2013 allows you to create custom WORD templates and save them locally on your machine (either in the default location for templates, or a user-specified custom location (e.g. My Documents, Desktop etc).
    (4) In advanced settings, there is an option to modify file locations. This is where you can point MS Word 2013 towards the folder (locally) that contains the personal templates that you have designed which you want to use.
    (5) QUESTION: Is there a way to have lots of corporate WORD templates (perhaps one for Marketing, Sales, Procurement, Project etc) - Basically LOTS of different templates all stored in one location on SHAREPOINT, or in a SharePoint document
library. THEN... once those templates (documents) are stored on SharePoint,
IS THERE A WAY to go back into the advanced settings within MS WORD 2013 and modify the file location for templates so that it points towards the SharePoint document library?
I want all the templates to open in MS Word 2013, not within a browser, and I don't want users to have to go to SharePoint to find a template, I want it to be integrated into their local MS Word 2013 so they can choose a corporate template the moment they
    load up MS Word 2013.
When I have tried to modify the custom file location for templates, I can only set it to an address locally on my machine, or a network address (mapped network drive).
However, I do not want the templates to be stored on a shared network folder, I want them to be in a SharePoint Document Library.
The issue I have found is that I cannot enter a SharePoint Library URL as my file location, nor can I enter any HTTP address.
IS THERE A WAY AROUND THIS?

  • Is there a way to display the file location in iTunes?

I have several external hard drives connected to my windows PC.   Over time, I have copied my music files (some I have ripped from CD's, and some I have copied from a friend's external drive) to 3 or 4 different locations, each of which is on a separate external drive.   Now, iTunes has gone out and pulled all of those files into my music.   As a result, I have 3 or more copies of many songs.
The only way I can see where they are located, as far as I know, is to right click on each song, go to Get Info, and look at the "WHERE" box at the bottom of the window.
Is there a way for me to set the file location up as a field in iTunes?  What I want to do now is to move all of my music to one location, then delete duplicates, before backing the entire library up.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

I use CoderPlus workspace & tabbed panels.  For me, the file url is on the far right side. See screenshot.
If you click the "Page Icon" in upper right corner to tile, the URL shows on the left side.
