File marshalling and unmarshalling exception

Hello All,
I just want to know that if I have an object which is serialized and another object which is not serialized then it is mandatory to serialize that object in the current example
For example
ArrayList is serialized by default.
So can this particular example run.
class ABC {
void go(){
ArrayList a = new ArrayList();
a.add(new ABC());
Do I need to serialize ABC also ?.
Thanks and regards,
Sachin

Why it has to be serialize. If ArrayList is
serializable then can't it hold the ABC object with
it ?. It can hold it but it can't serialize it.
The concept is dead simple really. If you want to Serialize a class then it must implement Serializable. It doesn't matter what the class is inside of or how many classes you have or anything else. Each and every class you want to serialize must implement Serializable.
Means seems I am confused with serialization.
Does anyone have a good tutorial on serialization ?.I don't think you really need a tutorial for a straightforward concept like this but http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/essential/io/providing.html

  • Marshalling and Unmarshalling on xml

    is this the one of the way of parsing xml??

    If by "marshalling and Unmarshalling on xml" you mean converting between XML and Java, then yes, JAXB can be a viable alternative to SAX or DOM, depending on your requirements.
    It is a simpler solution if it's the binding that you actually need.
    If Java representation of XML isn't relevant and you're only concerned about firing events when a particular XML artifact is detected, then SAX would be more indicated.
    Take the good habit of listing your actual requirements before considering a range of options.

    Hello! I have one iTunes library on my iPod and one iTunes library on my computer. When I connect my iPod touch to my PC, however, I cannot find any files in my iPod except for pictures. How can I find the music files so I can add them to my iTunes?

    You can't do that.
    And before you decide to store any music that you own on a computer at work, talk to your IT department. Many organizations do not permit it for legal reasons. Standard policies are that anything stored on company owned computers is the property of the company. It could not be legally stored on their machines unless you transfer the licenses and all copies, physical and digital, to the company, meaning you no longer own the music. If they were to be audited and could not prove that they own the music, they would be subject to copyright violation penalties. Just use your iPod when you're at the office if you want to listen to music.

  • How can I get a file to copy all of the files in a directory except itself and the source of the copy function will be the directory the final program is in?

    How can I get a file to copy all of the files in a directory except itself and the source of the copy function will be the directory the final program is in? This application must be in Lab View 8.

    you mean something like this (see below)?
    Now you may have to implement code to check if the destination folder exists and to create it, etc.  But if you use the Front Panel Control to select the destination folder, it should be okay.
    Not the best implementation, mind you but you'll get the idea..

    i just recently upgraded my itouch from 4.1 to ios 5, and updated to itunes 10.5. but when i synced my music files,ebooks and other apps, all is working except when im trying to sync my video files. it says, canot be synced as cannot be played on this ipod. but those are the same files that i have when i was using the old 4.1 version and its syncing just fine.. the itunes advanced tab "create iphone or ipod version" is not working either so i cant convert it to be xferred and synced. what can i do to have my video files synced?

    i had the same problem but i just got a new video converter and made it convert videos to ipod/iphone format and then put them into itunes. i would suggest GOM encoder as the encoder can convert them and then once they're finished converting, put them automatically into your itunes for you. from there you can just sync them to your ipod.

  • File.delete() and File.deleteOnExit() doesn't work consistently..

    I am seeing some odd behavior with trying to delete files that were opened. Usually just doing new File("file.txt").delete() would work. However, in this case, I have created an input stream to the file, read it in, saved it to another location (copied it), and now I am trying to delete it.
    The odd thing is, in my simple application, the user can work with one file at a time, but I move "processed" files to a lower pane in a swing app. When they exit it, it then archives all the files in that lower pane. Usually every file but the last one opened deletes. However, I have seen odd behavior where by some files don't delete, sometimes all of them wont delete. I tried the deleteOnExit() call which to me should be done by the JVM after it has released all objects such that they don't matter and the JVM ignores any object refs and directly makes a call (through JNI perhaps) to the underlying OS to delete the file. This doesn't work either.
    I am at a loss as to why sometimes some files delete, and other times they don't. In my processing code, I always close the input stream and set its variable to null. So I am not sure how it is possible a reference could still be held to the object representing the file on disk.

  • A File Reference and its evolving life!

    Hi all,
    I've noticed something that came as a little bit of a surprise to me, but I think I have the explanation, at a hand-wavy higher level anyway.  What I have not established is if this is a 'bug' or a 'feature', and if there are any ways the following issue can be avoided at the NI function/api layer.
    Consider the file open and file close function.  You open a file, you use the reference to the file to write/read data, then at some point you close the reference and the close function spits out the file-path.  Here are a couple of tid-bits you may not be aware of (that are easy to test):
    Q1) After your application opens/creates a file and starts using the file-reference to make file writes, if an external source changes the file-name of that file... guess what will happen on your next write function call?
    A1::  The write successfully updates the newly re-named file with your new data without producing an error or a warning.  (At least this is the case if your program is running on a vxWorks cRIO target and the file-name is changed directly on the cRIO via an FTP browser.)
    Did this surprise you? It did surprise me!  -My handwavy explanation is that the file-pointer is perhaps managed/maintained by the OS, so when the OS tells the file-system to rename that file, the pointer that LabVIEW holds remains valid and the contents of the memory at the pointer location was updated by the OS.
    Q2) Continuing from the situation setup in Q1, after writing several new chunks of data to a file now currently named something completely different than when the file reference was originally created, you use the close function to close the file-reference.  What do you expect on the file-path output from the close function??  What do you actually get??
    A2::  The close function will 'happily' return the ORIGINAL file-name, not the actual file-name it has been successfully writing to(!).   This has some potentially significant ramifications on how/what you can use that output for.  At this point there is a ton of room for pontifications and more or less 'crazy' schemes for what one could do, but I argue that the bottom line is that your application has at that point completely lost the ability to accurately and securely track your file(s).  Yes, you could list a folder and try and 'figure out' if your file-name was re-named during writing and you can in various ways make more or less good 'guesses' on which file you in reality just had open, but you can never really know for sure.
    So, what do you guys think?? Is the behavior of returning the (incorrect) original file-path when you close the handle a BUG or a FEATURE??  Would it not be possible for LabVIEW to read back the data contained in the (OS?) pointer location and as needed update the file out path data when it closes a reference?  Should we not EXPECT that this would be the behavior?
    Q3)  Again, continuning from the above situation, lets assume we are back at the state in Q1, writing data to a (re)named file.  What happens if the file is deleted by an external process? What happens to the file reference? File function calls using the reference?
    A3::  This one is less surprising.  The file reference remains 'valid' (because it is a valid reference), but depending on the file function you are calling, you will get error such as error 6 (binary write reports this), or error 4 (a TDMS write will report this error), etc.  So as long as you don't rely on file ref-num tests to establish if you are good to go with a file-write or file-action, you should be safe to recover in an appropriate way.. Just don't forget to close the file-reference, even if the file is 'gone', the reference will still remain in memory until you 'close' it (with an error)(?I might be wrong about this last part?)
    I am not sure if the above is possible on e.g. Windows, Windows would probably prevent you from re-naming a file that has an open file-handle to it, but this is definitley observable on at least vxWorks cRIO targets.  (I don't have PharLap ETS or RTLinux devices so I can't test on those targets.. if you want to test its pretty straigth forward to make a simple test app for it.)
    [begin rant-mode related to why I found this out and why this behavior BITES]
    There are situations where the above situation could cause some rather annoying issues that, for somewhat contrived reasons related to cRIO file API performance, CPU and memory resource management, are non-trivial to work around.  for example, using the NI "list folder" to listing folders take a very hefty chunk of time at 100% cpu that you cannot break up, so polling/listing folders after every file update (or even on a less regular interval) is a big challenge, and if you are really unlucky (or didn't know any better) and gave the list command in a folder with 1000's of files (as opposed to less than about 100 files), the list will lock your CPU at 100% for 10's of seconds...  Therefore, you might be tempted to maintain your own look-up table of files so that your application can upload/push/transfer and/or delete files as dictated by your application specific conditions... except that only works until some prankster or well-intention person remotes in and starts changing file-names, because then your carefully maintained list of file-names/paths' suddenly fall appart.
    [\end rant]

    Hey guys, thanks for turning out your comments on this thread!
    -Deny Access : still able to re-name (and delete) the file via FTP browser (didn't test other file avenues).  I think this is for the same reason that NI vxWorks targets (such as cRIO-9014) do not support the concept of different users with different rights, as such, everyone have access rights to everything at the OS level.  Another issue for me would be that "Deny Access" does not work on TDMS file references, so even if it worked, it would not help me.
    --> I strongly suspect that these things are non-issues or issues that can be properly managed, on the new NI LinuxRT targets since (the ftp is disabled by default) it supports user accounts and user restrictions on files/folders.  The controller could simply create the files in a tree where 'nobody else' has write access.
    Obviously nobody should mess around with files on a (running) cRIO, but customers don't always do what they are supposed to do.
    As far as the 'resources' or overhead to update the file-refnum with the new information, this would not be needed to be done in a polling fashion, simply, when the file-close function is called, as part of that call it updates its internal register from the pointer data, so this should be a low overhead operation I would think?  If that is a true concern, a boolean input defaulting to not updating or a separate 'advanced close' could be created?
    I've included a zip with the LV2013 project and test VI's (one for tdms one for binary) that I've used. nothing fancy, but in the interest of full disclosure.  The snippet is the 'binary file' test vi, in case you just want a quick peak:
    Steve Bird's findings of (yet) another behavior on Pharlap systems is also very interesting, I think!!
    [EDIT]  JUST TO CLARIFY, on vxWorks, the re-named file keeps being successfully written to, unlike the PharLaps' empty file that Steve Bird found.

  • XP pro file sharing and guest password - how to enable guest password?

    Hi,
    I want to share files between two Windows XP pro computers. I would also like that these shares can only be accessed with a password.
    Here's a description of my setup:
    I have two laptops: over 1 yo Fujitsu-Siemens (FS) running on Windows XP pro (finnish) and a brand new Thinkpad T61 (TP) running on Windows XP pro (english). Both of theses computers have guest account enabled and these accounts have also been password protected. FS's guest account is called "vieras" because of the language settings and TP's guest account is of course just "guest". Guest account passwords have been enabled using "net user <user name> *".
    I've disabled simple file sharing on both computers, set shared folder permission to only contain these users: TP - "Guest (TP\Guest)" and FS - "Vieras (FS\Vieras)". Both computers have F-secure on them so I've made firewall rules which enable following services both ways to a specific IP: Ping / ICMP echo request and reply ; Windows file sharing and network printers ; Windows network browsing ; ICMP / Internet Control Message Protocol. I've also enabled these services on Windows firewall.
    These computers can connect to each other either via Wi-Fi access point (b-mode) or directly using an ad-hoc Wi-Fi configuration (g-mode). Obviously the latter is used for more bandwidth hungry file transfers. Also, sometimes a cross-over Ethernet cable is used as well for even faster file transfers.
    Everything on my setup works just fine except just one thing. I connect to a shared resource by running the computer's IP address. When I connect from TP to FS it prompts for username and password. FS accepts both english and finnish names for  the guest account provided that the password is correct. But here's the problem... When connecting from FS to TP _no password or username prompt appears_. If I browse TP's shared folder sessions (under My Computer -> manage) I can see that FS is logged on as "vieras" i.e. FS's guest account.
    Since I enabled FS's network shares over a year a go I can't remember everything I did to make it work. Every relevant configuration on TP and FS seem to be identical (e.g. "Security settings -> local policies -> security options -> Accounts: limit local account use of blank passwords to console logon only -> enabled") but still TP accepts connections without password prompt.
    I've tried to get TP's password prompts enabled for a while now without any success. I did a lot of searching on the subject but I could only find instructions on how to disable guest account password prompts for network shares.
    Has anyone had similar experiences or does anyone know what I should try out next? Thanks...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Success!
    I solved my problem by changing guest account passwords. I tried to keep things simple by using the same guest password on both computers. This however allowed FS to log on to TP without guest password for some unknown reason. My logic would tell me that having the same guest password would allow both computers to log in without password but this wasn't obviously the case. I guess Windows has its own logic that I can't figure out or this issue had something to do with different language setups. Anyhow my shares work now like I want them to work.

    I have a default set excel is still throwing error. Interestingly winword , powerpoint and publisher are working fine. I am able to print from all office applications except Excel.
     Probably excel behaves differently from other office applications.
     Probably it is a bug in excel
    Workaround : Log on to a system once using newly created account then runas excel using this account then print works fine.
    It means something in user profile should be configure to run excel print operation. Could you please somebody help what I need to configure in user profile that makes print operation success?

    Hi!
    I have a WD my book external hard drive plugged into my imac and I want to share it over my network with my apple tv. I went into system preferences > sharing, checked "file sharing" and added my external hard drive to the shared folder. So now it is listed in "shared folders" but under "users" everything is grayed out (it says "read and write" for "everyone" - but "read and write" is grayed out, and it doesn't let me add or subtract users). Now I can access all of the folders I shared from my imac except for the externalhard drive. What's going on?

    Hi RRFS!,thanks for help.I forgot to tell that hard drive has 2 partitions 1:format :Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and that works properly,2:format:MS-DOS (FAT32) and when i "get info" for both :first has shering & permitions:You can read and write - with name and privilege, second has shaing & prermissions:You can read and write- without name and privilege

  • Function module for logical file path and name

    Hello all,
    I am wondering is there any function module available to translate a logical file path to a physical file path and a logical file name to a physical file name? Thanks a lot!
    Regards,
    Anyi

    Please check the FM FILE_NAME_GET.
          CALL FUNCTION <b>'FILE_GET_NAME'</b>

               logical_filename = 'ZDELCHKREP'
               parameter_1 = it_cntry-cntry
             IMPORTING
               file_name        = l_file
             EXCEPTIONS
               file_not_found   = 08.
        CALL FUNCTION <b>'FILE_GET_NAME_USING_PATH'</b>       EXPORTING
             logical_path = 'ZDELCHKREP'
             file_name = l_file

  • UDF to read a file name and use some of its contents to map fields in target.

    I have a scenario where I need to take the month and year from the file name and map it to suitable fields in the target. Ex - filename_apr2014 from this i should be able to read the month and year and map it. How to do this? I tried the udf -
    public String getFileName(Container container){
    DynamicConfiguration conf = (DynamicConfiguration) container.getTransformationParameters().get(StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
    DynamicConfiguration conf = (DynamicConfiguration) container.getTransformationParameters().get(StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
    DynamicConfigurationKey key = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/File","FileName");
    String ourSourceFileName = conf.get(key);
    return ourSourceFileName;
    got this error while testing the mapping -
    Runtime exception when processing target-field mapping /ns0:MT_<<>>_Output/I<<>>; root message: Exception:[java.lang.NullPointerException: while trying to invoke the method com.sap.aii.mapping.api.DynamicConfiguration.get(com.sap.aii.mapping.api.DynamicConfigurationKey) of a null object loaded from a local variable at slot 2] in class <<>> method getSourceFileName[com.sap.aii.mappingtool.tf7.rt.Context@5b04fc0f]
    See error logs for details

    Hi Satish - You declared "conf" twice.
    DynamicConfiguration conf = (DynamicConfiguration) container.getTransformationParameters().get(StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
    UDF -
    String filename    = "";
    DynamicConfiguration conf = (DynamicConfiguration) container.getTransformationParameters().get(StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
    DynamicConfigurationKey key = DynamicConfigurationKey.create( "http:/"+"/sap.com/xi/XI/System/File","FileName");
    filename = conf.get(key);
    return filename;
    And did you define the variable slot 2 in any of your UDF's?
    The above UDF return the filename and you should handle the sub string later..

    Can anybody tell me what conditions would cause this error?

    well yes:
    panel.addGLEventListener(new GLR());
    "GLR" implements "GLEventListener" and defines the required methods
    I installed the Netbeans OpenGL Pack on NetBeans 6.5 and there is a problem with that...mh :(
    Ok I also tried to create a GLPanel-Sample-Project and modify it but netbeans don't know "javax.swing.GroupLayout;" I installed the JDK as well.
    mh what can i do: try to fix my actual error or try to get GroupLayout in java.swing^^
