File Open/Save Boxes of SQL- Developer

I am not aware if these points are already discussed or on features list.
1) I could not find how to set default directory where SQL Developer will go directly when I am opening new file.
2. Also as far as I experienced SQL Developer does not remember the last path/directory I have opened file from.
3. I don't know difference between File Menu -> open and right click in the worksheet and open.
But the files opened via right click does not go to recently used file list in the file menu. Is this expected?
4. When I export the data to file. there are two points.
     a) Last path is not remembered so I have to go to the path every time.
     b) SQL Developer comes with the name null.csv
     The practical problem I face is after I go to whatever path I need I give some file name. But if I don’t give the extension then no extension is there to the file it created. I think most will expect to have automatic extension. I don’t know if I am expecting too much.

Sanjeev

Hi,
1. Lots of Windows users who are craving for this, let's hope it gets into v1.1. Perhaps the default script directory (accepted for v1.1) can be used.
2. They claim it does, however only for the same opened tab. Duh.
3. Might be intentional, but I agree it should be added.
4. a) Bummer, isn't it?
b) I agree. Suppose it's like this because of the multi-platform capability.
If you notice missing features or want to vote on other people's requests, there's the SQL Developer Exchange, at http://sqldeveloper.oracle.com .

  • SQL file does not open in Mac with SQL Developer

    Hi,
    I have my .sql extension files in mac associated with SQL Developer, but when I open the file SQL Developer does not start; nothing happens.
    I checked all the associations and it seems correct.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks,

    Anyone???

    Hi Mike,
    I can provide solution if you can tell me the registry value(HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\sqlwb.sql.9.0\Shell\Open\Command). I believe there is an extra %1 which is causing this.

    Let me see if I can get my IT guys to temporarily grant me registry access.  As I said above, it's locked down, but maybe if I ask
    reeeeally nicely :-)  I will keep you posted.  Thanks!
    EDIT: The IT gods have smiled on me.  The value for the key above is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE\ssms.exe" /dde
    Not sure if that helps, but there you go.  Thanks!

    Hey Mike,
    Actually edit didnot trigger the email :)
    Change that to
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE\ssms.exe" %1 /dde
    (add %1 and that should fix this forever)

  • File Open/Save Dialog box

    Dear Friends,
    I have a unique problem, I developed a form (in Oracle Forms 6.0), utilizing the Forms "GET_FILE_NAME" built-in to activate the FILE Open Dialog box.
    It is working fine if I execute the form in WINDOWS-NT environment.
    But the same form, when I web deploy it and run it under both NETSCAPE or INTERNET browser
    the "GET_FILE_NAME" built-in fails to get activated, i.e no File Open Dialog box appears on the browser.
    Any Clues ??
    Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

    Mohammed,
    the file open dialog you used with winnt is based on the windows api, wich does, of course, not work in a java applet.
    If you want to use file access from within webforms, you have to extend the forms applet with your own java classes. To do this, you can use the PJC mechanism forms provides (pjc=pluggable java components). Furthermore, if you want to do things like open files on the client (wich are not allowed for java applets) you have to sign your java classes. These things seem to be very complex (and they are), but I've done this work successfully. If you need more information, look at at technet, there are lots of white papers and examples.

  • File Open/Save dialog

    Hi,
    One of my pet peeves about Jdeveloper and by extension of SQLDeveloper is that the file open/save dialog does not have quick way to navigate to familiar places on my computer like "My Documents" or "Desktop". For eg., in Word, I can navigate to My Recent Documents, Desktop, My Documents, My Computer, My Network Places.
    I know Jdeveloper and SQLD are also meant for the Unix Platform, but having shortcuts like My Network Places, Desktop, My Computer etc atleast for the Windows based tools would make it immensly easier to find files.
    Something even better would be to allow each person to customize that list of shortcuts he can have in that list.
    Thanks
    Alex

    Yes, this is absolutely necessary for Windows users!
    In a non-java Windows application I can usually put a shortcut to my favored directory in the directory an application might default to, then double-click it and the windows environment is smart enough to move to that directory, and I can save my files.
    Java is stupid in this regard. It thinks you are trying to save the file to the name of the shortcut. I CANNOT stand an application that isn't smart enough to set preferences to default file locations!
    I should also add that I set the USER_DIR to the directory I save all my files in (on my u:drive) and SQL Developer then runs those files without the entire path (I can just put in @a for example) but it is too STUPID to save to this directory!

  • File- Print not working from SQL Developer 1.2.1 Build MAIN-32.13

    File->Print not working from SQL Developer 1.2.1 Build MAIN-32.13.
    I downloaded sqldeveloper-1.2.1.3213.ZIP and extract to a local directory. From the extracted directory I ran ..\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper.exe from Windows XP sp2. The program itself seems to run just fine but File-Print doesn't do anything. In Help-About, Java Platform is reported as 1.5.0_06 and Oracle IDE is 1.2.1.3213. I'm not sure where to look for what is causing the problem.
    Thanks

    I hadn't tried CTRL-P before but I did today. On the first attempt, I saw a small jump in the memory usage for sqldeveloper.exe as reported in Windows Task Manager. Otherwise, there was no change. A second CTRL-P in the same session produced a further bump but subsequent attempts in the same session produced no further change in CPU or Memory Usage.
    Using Task Manager to monitor this further, I tried File->Print again and saw that sqldeveloper would periodically climb to 1 or 2 percent CPU and consume a little more memory. After a minute or so, though, all activity stops again.
    I do not get a print dialog box from SQLDeveloper using either CTRL-P or File->Print

  • How to open File open/save dialog for a file saved in the Appl. Server?

    Hi Experts,
       My requirement is that, there will be a link in my BSP page "Link to BI Report" and when the user will click this link, the File open/save Dialog box will appear for a BI Report file that will be in a fixed path in the Application Server. I have checked with <a href="/usr/sap/tmp/bi_report.csv"> tag but it is not working. The BI report file will be currently in the CSV format. Any ideas about how to achieve this? Thanks in advance.

    If you want to work in tabbed view, do it like this:
    Select the move tool. Go to the tab that contains one of the image files.
    Drag the image over the tab that has the blank document (Keep holding down the mouse button). Wait till that tab opens.
    Drag & drop the image into the blank document.

  • How to create save actions in SQL Developer 1.5?

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a save action in SQL Developer, which shall execute "an external tool" I already added.
    I choose "Code-Editor" -> "save actions". I want to add an action, but there are 3 predefined actions and there is no possibility for me to add another. Is there a way for me to add a save action, as it is possible in eclipse?
    What I am trying to do is, I want to trigger an external sql formatter. The sql formatter, which is built in, doesn't fit my needs and the way I can configure it, is very sparse. Therefore I want to use an external tool do to this - and I want it to be executed after saving the document.

  • Exported CSV files are locked by Oracle SQL Developer 2.1.0.63

    Whenever I export my query result into a CSV file, the resulting file is always locked for editing by Oracle SQL Developer 2.1.0.63.
    Have anybody encountered the same problem? Do you know how can I report this as a bug to Oracle?

    I got it too if I left SQl Developer open then go to Excel to edit my CSV - got message 'table_export.csv is locked for editing by another user'. If I close SQL Developer then open the file, it works. Seems SQL Developer's holding onto the file after creation.

  • Mavericks freezing on file open/save

    Having upgraded my iMac (24 inch mid 2007) to Mavericks several non Apple application that tries to open a file open/save dialogue box freezes when the dialogue is attempted to be displayed.
    Main application that is failing is open office but I have written an application in XCode that also fails.

    If you're having problems with freezing in the FILE -> OPEN dialog run this command fron the terminal.
    sudo update_dyld_shared_cache -force
    That seems to have worked for me.
    In this case, the freezeing and/or beach ball of death has something to do with dynamic links being corrupted.  This command clears them out.

  • File Open Dialog Box

    Under my install of Vista Enterprise on an AD network, I'm am not getting the "computer" option to access local and network drives when I select "File/Open".  All I get is the redirected "home" directory for that user.  True for all Adobe applications (have the latest Creative Suite 4).  Other Windows apps using Windows file/open dialog box can get to the network.  Tech support said I should have an option to select the OS dialog box, but I do not see that on my install.

    In Edit > Preferences > File Handling, uncheck "Enable Version Cue".  This is where you will find it in CS4; earlier versions may have slight variations.  In some versions, you may also get a checkbox in the file open dialog (down at the lower left, as I recall) that lets you select OS dialog or Adobe dialog.   Also, in Bridge (again CS4), go to Edit > Preferences > Startup Scripts, and uncheck Adobe Version Cue CS4.  (I have this unchecked, and even with Enable Version Cue checked in PS I don't get the Adobe dialog or the option to set it, so the setting in bridge seems to be the master.)

  • File Open Dialog Box Hiding Behind - Urgent

    Hi All
    We have write code for Opening File in File Open Dialog Box. But its stays in inactive mode behind SBO. Once we press ALT +TAB only then we can see it. How to Activate it or make it visible automatically in SAP Business One.
    The Code for Opening File we have written is in C#
    <b>OpenFileDialog objOpenFileDialog = new OpenFileDialog();
    objOpenFileDialog.InitialDirectory = System.Windows.Forms.Application.StartupPath + "
                        objOpenFileDialog.Filter = "Excel files (.xls)|.xls";
                        if(objOpenFileDialog.ShowDialog()!= DialogResult.Cancel)
    string ExcelFilePath = objOpenFileDialog.FileName;
    }</b>
    Thanks in Advance
    Asutosh

    Common problem... Do the following instead.
    System.Windows.Forms.Form form = new System.Windows.Forms.Form();
    form.TopMost = true;
    OpenFileDialog objOpenFileDialog = new OpenFileDialog();
    objOpenFileDialog.InitialDirectory = System.Windows.Forms.Application.StartupPath + "\";
    objOpenFileDialog.Filter = "Excel files (*.xls)|*.xls";
    if(objOpenFileDialog.ShowDialog(form)!= DialogResult.Cancel)
    string ExcelFilePath = objOpenFileDialog.FileName;
    That should do it

  • File Open Dialog Box  on Button Click

    Hi
    I am devloping some webpages using JSF and RichFaces..
    I would like to appear File open Dialog box to choose single file and multiple files and another Folder chooser dialog box to choose the folder content..
    Both the operation should be performed while choosing the Button Choose File and Choose Folder...
    I have already tried Input type = file and aphace tomohawk..
    But i all the components are coming with text box and browse button..
    I dont need that. I need to open the dialog box once i clilck my choose file r folder button and it should work browser indepent.....

    HTML doesn't provide you the possibility to select multiple files or select folders at a single browse. Thus JSF can't do any much for you. Best what you can do is to write a signed applet or web start application which does the task. The Mojarra Scales component library has a ready-to-use component which embeds an applet which does that task. Check [https://scales.dev.java.net/multiFileUpload.html].

  • File open dialog box broken in all apps! ( 10.5.6/7

    Hi, I've got a very odd problem that Apple phone support seem to be unable to solve.
    Basically, every file open dialog box system wide is broken, from file->open in textedit to the browse button on websites for uploading files.
    When trying to display this finder panel, it beachballs for ten seconds then gives me a grey area where the usual finder browser usually resides and the open / cancel buttons at the bottom of the panel.
    I've repaired permissions which had no effect.
    The finder works perfectly other than it's little file open dialog which other applications use...
    Updating to 10.5.7 did nothing to fix the issue.
    Does anybody have any idea how to resolve this?
    Thanks!
    chris.

    V.K. had you create another user to eliminate the possibility that it is a preference file causing the problem. It was reported the problem remained with another user, so the problem is system wide, not with a single user's preferences.
    The Archive & Install is relatively painless. It only replaces the system and leaves everything else untouched. What is replaced is saved in a new folder it creates named Previous System, in case there is something there you might want to bring back (most often 3rd party files, but I have never needed anything from the Previous System folder).
    The only hassle with the A & I is resetting preferences. If you check the option during the A & I to retain user settings, there is usually not very much that needs resetting.
