File Selection in JSP

Want to select a file with File Selection and would like to display the contents in TestArea in a JSP file.
Any suggestion OR help?

You mean select a file on the client computer and display the contents in a TextArea?
Can not be done efficiently just in JSP/Javascript.
The only component you can use to select files is the <input type="file">
That can only be used to upload the contents of a file.
The only way to get the contents into a textarea would be
1 - Choose via <input type="file">
2 - Upload the file to the server
3 - Download the text from that file to the client in a JSP page.
A better solution would involve signed applets/activex which actually CAN directly read the local computers file system.

  • How to Compile Jsp File in Class File , Protect my JSP from outworld

    Hello Friends
    My name is chandra prakash, I'm new for u. I've develop a web based software completely in JSP, some files are also written in Java Script. This software have aprox. 40 files --> 30 in JSP + 2 in Java Script + 8 image files .
    Each JSP calls another. and run this on 58 clints machine simultaneusly. we used Oracle 9iAS as back end and Oracle9iAS web Server . Where we found less clients like 20-30 we use Tomcat 5.0 web server .Sir problem is this we don't wan't to leave our jsp source code on server.
    Is any method or third party tool by which we can convert our JSP source file in CLASS file as like real class files provide by javac.
    For this perpose we make a folder and put all files in it. Create a context on Tomcat for this folder.Create a data source for this in tomcat. Bcase this program uses Data source and connect many times to database & fetches many type of data from database. We use servlet files of tomcat for this context in WORK folder of Tomcat. and after that rename our Source file Folder. and again run our program through batch file i'm strange program runs 2-3 steps, after few times it start producing errors.
    Sir do u hava work on this field can u help me to protect this JSP source code.
    I've Use Jikes.com compiler but not get any succes, It may be i'm not using correctly .
    Pls sir give me any suggesition.
    Chandra prakash

    1. Highlight your web project or the individual file
    2. Right click
    3. Select Rebuild to build all jsp files or Make to rebuilt only changed files

    Seeing your other posts it looks like you have no clue. The server and client communicate
    through http and are 2 different machines (unless you are debugging). You cannot use java.io.File
    in an applet because it runs on the client and you want to list files on the server.
    You cannot use <input type=file to list files on the server because it lists files on the client.
    As suggested before you can use java.io.File on the SERVLET/JSP to generate html code listing the
    files that the client wants to see, or use a database listing location of a file and user rights to it.
    And please do not post the same queston so many times, if you don't understand something place a response
    to an existing thread.

  • Multiple file upload in jsp with out using FILE type filed.

    I have an applet that is used for multiple file selection, It allows drag and drop functionality also. The problem is once the user selects multiple files it has to get uploaded to the server. Since its not part of a file type component while submitting the form we wont get the file contents.
    We can use multipart api for uploading files, but if the file selected by the user is not by the file type filed the file contents wont come as part in the jsp submission and I cant assign the file names selected by the user through the applet to any FILE (hidden ) type in jsp .
    Please give a solution

    We can use multipart api for uploading files, but if the file selected by the user is not by the file type filed the file contents won&#146;t come as part in the jsp submission and I can&#146;t assign the file names selected by the user through the applet to any FILE (hidden ) type in jsp .Well i think thats a wrong notion which you have...
    you can very well get non-file type field data & file item data from a multipart form.
    Anyways,Letz checkout a simple example(refer to the below Code-snippet down below) which can do that task for us and it uses commons-fileupload & commons-io libraries.

    and it is not certain that you ought to use commons libraries for this there are many other alternative solutions available by which you can implement a similar functionality.
    Hope this might help !!! if that does do not forget to assign/share duke dollars which you have promised :)

  • Displaying the path of the file selected by a FileChooser in a TextField

    I'm just getting started with Swing. I developed a simple dialog box that has two text fields and two buttons. The objective is to open two files using those two buttons. I used FileChooser to select the files. Now, I want to display the path of the selected files in their corresponding TextFields. I use the following code to do that.
    final FileChooser fc1 = new FileChooser();
    final FileChooser fc2 = new FileChooser();
    final TextField tf1 = new TextField();
    final TextField tf2 = new TextField();
    private void button1ActionPerformed(ActionEvent evt)
                int returnVal1 = fc1.showOpenDialog(labelPhpFile);
                if (returnVal1 == JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION)
                    File file1 = fc1.getSelectedFile();
                    String fileName1 = file1.getName();
                    String filePath1 = file1.getPath();
                    tf1.setText(filePath1);
    private void button2ActionPerformed(ActionEvent evt)
                int returnVal2 = fc2.showOpenDialog(labelPhpFile);
                if (returnVal2 == JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION)
                    File file2 = fc2.getSelectedFile();
                    String fileName2 = file2.getName();
                    String filePath2 = file2.getPath();
                    tf2.setText(filePath2);
    }The above code works fine only for the first file. Mean the path of the file selected using fc1 is getting displayed in the tf1 TextField. But, the file selected using fc2 is not getting displayed tf2 TextField. Please help me.
    Thank you :)

  • How to upload data into a database from a csv file in a jsp app?

    I can write a HTML form to let users to post a csv file and store it in the web server, then how could I process the file to load the data into a View Obj or an Entity Obj without manually parsing the csv files? Any jsp or java code samples that will do something like the "sqlload" in sqlplus?
    I'm using JDev 3.1.1.2. Thanks.

  • How to call a class file in a jsp without deploying anything in j2ee

    Hi,
    I am new in J2EE. I have some jsps, which I configured using web.properties(documentroot=c:/jsp/). I am able to get
    those pages by the web browser. I have some import statements in some jsps, now I
    am trying to access those page but it is failing, it says
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for
    JSPD:\j2sdkee1.3\repository\pradip\web\_0002fLogin_0002ejspLogin_jsp_0.java:1:
    Class com.gui.UPMGuiGlobalConstants not found in import.
    import com.gui.UPMGuiGlobalConstants;
    Actually I have not deployed any class file or jsps.. Now my question is can I access
    these jsps without deploying anything, like can I put my .jar file in any j2ee
    directory(like lib or anywhere else, I already tried after putting in /lib) and restart the
    j2ee and use it. So how can I call a class file from a jsp without any kind of
    deployment?
    Please send me the reply as soon as possible.
    Regds,
    Pradip

    After you put the jar containing the class to import into the WEB-INF/lib directory, you still need to include it in the jsp.
    Putting the jar into the lib dir, will make it available to the vm, but as in any other java class, you still need to import it into the class, that the jsp will be compiled into.
    And you do that by putting
    <%@page import="com.gui.UPMGuiGlobalConstants" %>somewhere near the top of your jsp. (well you don't need to put it there, but it good style ;)
    That should do it.

  • Close excel programmatically after user cancels file selection

    Greetings all. I apologize but I incorrectly posted this question on the wrong board originally so am posting it again here. I have a VI that I wrote with some help from this site that reads in as many user selected Flat Data Files as desired into Excel. The VI opens Excel, places each Flat Data File on one row and ends, allowing the user to manipulate the Excel data as desired. I have tested it without problems with up to 100 files at a time. The VI minimizes Excel at startup so that it will not block the Select File(s) dialogue. MY problem is this: If the user cancels the file selection, it returns an error and leaves Excel open. I understand how to handle the error, but have been unable to make Excel close automatically if the action is canceled. I have tried to invoke the Close without saving node with no luck... probably because I don't understand how to apply it. Ideally, I want to take the error number to a case statement, and if it is anything other than zero (0), meaning no error, I want Excel to close down. This will eventually be an executable so I need to make this right. Can anybody help? I have attached a zip file with the VI's and some sample Flat Data Files.
    Thanks

    If you want anything to run after an error you must clear the error status boolean from the error cluster. To do this use the bundle by name and set the status value to FALSE, take this output cluster into the function you wish to run.

  • How to Generate a Java file for a JSP Page

    Hi ,
    I am using weblogic11 .
    I am working on a JSP page which nearly consists of 4000 lines of code.
    I need to debug the file , but weblogic server is not generating the java file for the JSP pages .
    Please let me know how can i genertae Java file for the jsp pages ??

    JSPs are compiled into servlets automatically and those classes are stored in WEB-INF/classes folder. Servlet engine handles servlets.

  • How can I load the selected XML File (Selected from a Listview) into the correct Textboxes?

    Right, so I have a windowsform with lots of Textboxes, where the user can type in Information, and then hit "Save", once its saved it goes into a sortof XML Format
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <!--Database-->
    <Case>
      <Person>l<Driver></Driver><License-Holder></License-Holder><Address></Address><Phone></Phone><Date-of-Birth></Date-of-Birth><Registration></Registration>
    Like that.
    Now, on my Startup Form (The main form) there is a Listview that I gave the name Objectlist1. This list displays ANY file located in a specific folder on my computer. This is also where the Saved files appear.
    The list also updates every 5th second so after you save it appears quickly.
    Now, the Files are saved using the content or Value of the first Textbox:
    Dim XmlWrt As XmlWriter = XmlWriter.Create("C:\Users\USER\Desktop\TESTFOLDER\" + Firsttextbox.Text, settings)
    So it appears in the folder and on the list with the value inserted in the first Textbox.
    My problem comes when I want to load this back (Or reverse the function if you will)
    Where I can go to the Objectlist1/Listview, either doubleclick a file or Mark a file, and hit my button "Retrieve"
    I want the Form where you could input all the values to show - which it does
    And the information from the XML/File saved to appear where it once was typed or inserted.
    Here is an example of the code used to save the values from the Textboxes;
    Private Sub Savebutton_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles Savebutton.Click
            If IO.File.Exists(Pholderbox.Text) = False Then
                Dim settings As New XmlWriterSettings()
                settings.Indent = True
                Dim XmlWrt As XmlWriter = XmlWriter.Create("C:\Users\USER\Desktop\TESTFOLDER\" + Pholderbox.Text, settings)
                With XmlWrt
                    ' Write the Xml declaration.
                    .WriteStartDocument()
                    ' CLIENT
                    ' Write a comment.
                    .WriteComment("Database")
                    ' Write the root element.
                    .WriteStartElement("Case")
                    ' Start our first person.
                    .WriteStartElement("Person")
                    .WriteString(Textbox1.Text)
                    ' The person nodes.
                    .WriteStartElement("Driver")
                    .WriteString(Textbox2.Text)
                    .WriteEndElement()
    I've tried multiple codesamples but they all give either "XML Not found" or such Overloads.
    This is the current code I used when trying to make it work
    Private Function ReadSettingsXML(ByVal path As String) As MySettings # On Debug It marks here and tells me it wasn't found.

            settings = ReadSettingsXML(Objectlist1.SelectedItems.ToString)
            If settings IsNot Nothing Then
                Dim sb As New System.Text.StringBuilder
                With settings
                    Caseworker.Textbox1.Text = .Person
                    Caseworker.Textbox2.Text = .Driver
                    Caseworker.Textbox3.Text = .Address
                End With
            End If
        End Sub
    Also, the "Caseworker" is the form where all the textboxes are located.
    Been stuck on this for two working days, so any help is highly appreciated
    Codesamples are also highly welcome so I can see what the heck you did and find and answer to my problems.

    I found a code that might be close to what I'm looking, but as of this code used here, it looks for a static document that already exist and is located in the code.
    See this one here, checks for the XML file, and since I can't link one program to 1 file, when its gonna have and use 100's of files.
            If (IO.File.Exists("MyXML.xml")) Then
                Same here with the static document.
                Dim document As XmlReader = New XmlTextReader("MyXML.xml")
                While (document.Read())
                    Dim type = document.NodeType
                    'if node type was element
                    If (type = XmlNodeType.Element) Then
                        If (document.Name = "FirstName") Then
                            TextBox1.Text = document.ReadInnerXml.ToString()
                        End If
                        If (document.Name = "LastName") Then
                            TextBox2.Text = document.ReadInnerXml.ToString()
                        End If
                    End If
                End While
    Am I at least close here, people?
    Can anyone help with the now critical issue I got?
    I basically need to change these two;
     If (IO.File.Exists("MyXML.xml")) Then
                Same here with the static document.
                Dim document As XmlReader = New XmlTextReader("MyXML.xml")
    To whatever value, so they read from the file SELECTED in my Listview
    Cos the program saves files according to the info inserted in textboxes, so it can have whatever name you can think of, I need the program to "find and load" that file, once its selected, and then once I hit Retrieve or LOAD or whatever button, it
    injects the info from the File to the correct Textboxes.
    And I think this will work to get the info in the right boxes;
     If (document.Name = "FirstName") Then
                            TextBox1.Text = document.ReadInnerXml.ToString()
                        End If
                        If (document.Name = "LastName") Then
                            TextBox2.Text = document.ReadInnerXml.ToString()
    Any good advise? I'm stranded here.

  • How to include a .class file in a jsp page

    hi everyone,
    i know the syntax as:
    <%@ include file = "filename.class" %>
    then at run time the server could not find the class file
    if i use,
    <%@ page import = "FileName.class" %>
    then also the same problem persists
    & if i use
    <jsp:include page = "Relative address"/>
    the problem still remains as it is...
    please help me out...i am working on developing an EJB application in which client interacts with server's Stateful session bean through a jsp page...it is necessary for me to include the home interface class file in my jsp page.
    P.S. do not suggest me to include the class file in a package & then use
    <%@ page import = "packageName.ClassFileName" %>

    "package University does not exist".How can i overcome this problem. The package University, which you are trying to import, must be in the classpath. If you removed it then you will have to add it back.
    i have tried my best..but tell me if there's any possible way of including a class file in the jsp page without involving a package.No, there isn't.
    If not,then pls help me to generate the class file of my home interface within a package called test.Read the New To Java Tutorial and understand how packages work.

    i am assuming that u have a deep knowledge of developing EJB applications.

  • Uploading a file in a jsp page

    Hii Javaites
    I am developing an application in which i need to upload file from a jsp page, right now i am using tomcat can anyone tell me the code for uploading a file.
    Thanking in Advance

    Hi,
    For uploading file from jsp:
    1) Goto javazoom.com, then download latest version for upload the files.
    2) Extract the zip & thay giving four jar files
    they are:
    i)uploadbean.jar
    ii)struts.jar
    iii)fileupload.jar
    iv)cos.jar
    put all this jar in lib of u r web application
    ex:
    C:\jakarta-tomcat-5.0.25\webapps\URWEBAPP\WEB-INF\lib\
    3) Set it in class path
    4) create one jsp with file option<input type='file' name = 'somename'>
    5) In action page(next page)
    <%@ page language="java" import="javazoom.upload.*,java.util.*" %>
    <%@ page errorPage="error.jsp" %>
    <jsp:useBean id="upBean" scope="page" class="javazoom.upload.UploadBean" >
    <jsp:setProperty name="upBean" property="folderstore" value="c:/uploads" />
    </jsp:useBean>
    Set the folder where u want upload the particular file.
    MultipartFormDataRequest mrequest = new MultipartFormDataRequest(request);
    Hashtable files = mrequest.getFiles();
         UploadFile file = (UploadFile) files.get("somename");//Give name u r given in the previous page.
         String fileName = file.getFileName();
    upBean.store(mrequest, "userFile");
    follow this steps it works fine.
    regards

    Aside from removing the "start" or adding the title ...
    Does your batfile really say "SET PATH=%PATH%;%JAVA_HMOE%\bin"? If so, I rather expect you meant to say "JAVA_HOME" and not "JAVA_HMOE".
    Also, I'd be cautious about those relative paths that you're passing in to the Java program. Of course I don't know what you're doing with those in the program, but if you try to just pass those paths to a File or InputStream constructor, they're going to be relative to the current directory. And if you execute a batfile using cmd from an exec that's within a JSP ... I'm not sure what your current directory would be when the bat runs. Maybe you've checked this out and it's the right place, but if not, perhaps you have a misconception there.
