Upload tab-delimited file from the application server to an internal table
Hello SAPients.
I'm using OPEN DATASET..., READ DATASET..., CLOSE DATASET to upload a file from the application server (SunOS). I'm working with SAP 4.6C. I'm trying to upload a tab-delimited file to an internal table but when I try load it the fields are not correctly separated, in fact, they are all misplaced and the table shows '#' where supposedly there was a tab.
I tried to SPLIT the line using as separator a variable with reference to CL_ABAP_CHAR_UTILITIES=>HORIZONTAL_TAB but for some reason that class doesn't exist in my system.
Do you know what I'm doing wrong? or Do you know a better method to upload a tab-delimited file into an internal table?
Thank you in advance for your help.Try:

Upload and download of excel file in the application server in background
Hi all,
i want to download the excel file from application server into internal table and after processing i have to upload to excel file in the application server in the background mode..
i mean i'll schedule the program in background.
im using FM ALSM_EXCEL_TO_INTERNAL_TABLE its working fine in fore ground but not in back ground.
what method i have to follow ?Hi Ankit,
I think this is not possible to open a Excel-File from the application server because the Excel format before Office 2007 where a binary format (Suffix: .xls). The newer Office file format (Suffix: xlsx) is a zipped XML Format. To read the binary Excel-Format you need an OLE Connection between SAP GUI and Office. But at the application server in background you doesn't have this OLE Connection.
In my opinion you have two possibilities:
1. Convert all files in the CSV format. This file format can be read with open dataset.
2. Upload the files from the presentation server in forground. There are some funktion modules in the standard which can read the xls format. But they have some limits regarding the length of cells content.
My recommendation is solution no. 1. If you know an VBA expert, he can write an Excel-macro which converts all Excel Files in the CSV-Fomat.

Praveen Chetpally. You can't tranfer the whole PDF data with just one transfer statement, instead you have to loop that table and transfer the data to the file until you reach the last row.
open dataset pr_file for output in binary mode."text mode encoding NON-UNICODE.

How do upload a file to the application server into a directory?
hi to all,
i want to upload file into the database..i need upload the file into the application server and save it to a directory..is there any way?where i can read about this?any information?
ashwinyHello,
First, we need to determine the terms we are using, in order to avoid confusion. We (including the documentation) are using "upload" to describe storing the file on the server, and "download" to pull it from the server into local machine.
You can use the "File Browse" item to upload any file you need from your local machine and into a database table. The default APEX configuration (in the dads.conf file) stored the uploaded file in a table called wwv_flow_file_objects$. In your application, you can access this table using a view called APEX_APPLICATION_FILES.
After you uploaded a file, any user can access it, using the download procedure described in the reference I gave you. The download procedure gives you an option to store the download file anywhere you need, using the "Open/Save" dialog box.
I believe this is covering everything you need. If you still having problems, please consider posting the relevant application pages on apex.oracle.com. It will be easier to understand and help you.

Want to know the file path for application server in upload program
Iam doing upload program(i,e)uploading from application server, iam getting run time error while executing the following piece of code
"OPEN DATASET '/usr/sap/SPE/DVEBMGS00/work/ZPSPAR35_PERS_UP.txt' FOR OUTPUT
IN TEXT MODE
ENCODING DEFAULT."
if the above code is wrong can u mention the correct one.hi,
<b>Note: 699267</b>
<b>Symptom</b>
a) When downloading to the application server a short dump occurs with the error 'UC_OBJECTS_NOT_CHARLIKE'.
b) When downloading to a presentation server from an SAP system running on Unicode, only half the data is actually transferred to the downloaded file.
or
*)When downloading from an SAP system running on an application server with an EBCDIC-type code page, an incorrect code '0A' is written for the LINE FEED character
<b>
Pre-requisite</b>
a) The output file is opened 'in text mode' which does not allow to write non-character-like structures to the file via the TRANSFER command.
b) The file is downloaded in the internal representation which uses two bytes per character in a Unicode system. The number of bytes to download is determined from the number of characters in the SAP system, however.
or
*)The code of the LINE FEED character is incorrectly programmed.
<b>
Solution:</b>
You need to put some support packs attached with this note. For that you definitely need to ask YOUR FRIENDS WHO HAVE AN S-USER id at your WORK PLACE.
<b>Note: 879598</b>
<b>Reason and Prerequisites</b>
The file is downloaded in the internal representation which uses two bytes per character in a Unicode system. The number of bytes to download is determined from the number of characters in the SAP system. Hence when the download happens the data has to be converted to the required format.
<b>Solution</b>
Apply the corresponding support package or manually implement the changes described in the correction instructions.
Hope this helps.

ak.

LSMW file upload from presentation server
Hi,
We are using LSMW to create new Document info records and will need to upload/ attach multiple files to the DIR.
everything is working except in the IDOC processing stage, it errors out -
"Error while checking in and storing:
otlta134a\pcm\test1.txt"
Its is unable to upload file from network drive, it works successfully when the same file is uploaded from application server.
I have worked in other LSMW projects and have successfully loaded files from network drive.
Please let me know what configuration setup is required, is it the content server or the gateway server?
Thanks for all your help.Sheetal,
I think this is the problem due to the authorization....
try to open the file from AL11........... if u r still getting the problem better to contact the basis guys...
If it is the problem with the authorization... once u get this error open another session with SU53 tcode.. take the authorization object and give it to basis guys to allow the permissions to u... -

Create a Document with an original file stored on application server
Hello,
I start with document managment system : i am able to create new document (CV01N) manually, add a local file and check-in this file.
Now we need to store file which are stored on the SAP Application Server.
Firstly, in the GUI of transaction CV01N, i don't know how to browse file on application server. All files i can't attach as original, are files i can access from my computer.
Is it possible to access also on application server files ?
Moreover, i have to define function module which have to
- Create a document (DMS)
- Attach an orginial file which is stored on application server
- Check-in the file
This function module will be called from a web application
I define this kind of function and run it correctly with a local file (stored on my computer) : i call BAPI "BAPI_DOCUMENT_CREATE2" and "BAPI_DOCUMENT_CHECKIN2"
But i don't how to do with a file stored on application server. I see also note 504692 and try a program like ZZUZTEST_TEST_CHECKIN which use FM CVAPI_DOC_CHECKIN but it return an error Error uploading E:\usr\sap\TD1\DVEBMGS00\data\FACTURE.txt" (this path and file exist on application server and is really the file i want to checkin)
Please could you confirm what i search, is possible or not.
If possible, could help me with some explanations and guidelines and perhaps a sample ?
Thank you very much.

Eric

You have to set PF_HOSTNAME with your name of your AS and gives the path to the file on the server.
You wrote
*PF_HOSTNAME = w_host
But beware: if you have more thän one AS you have to fix one AS for upload or you have to find the servers name of the file. A better way can be to share one folder by each AS.
You also have to decide between HTTP or FTP.
You wrote:
PF_FTP_DEST = 'SAPFTPA'
PF_HTTP_DEST = 'SAPHTTPA'
You must define only one ! Then you have to check your settings in SM59 about working right.
Pls rate, if this was helpful.

Maximum length of header in the file on the application server?
Hi there,
I am uploading a file on the application server. I am writing the header separately which is column heading in char format. Then I am writing the data to that file.
Now the problem is, I am unable to get more than 256 chars for each line in the file, including header, in <b>AL11 file view</b> and while I am <b>downloading that file on to my desktop</b>, I am <b>not</b> getting more than 256 chars from <b>header </b> line in my excel sheet however I am getting all the chars i.e. more than 256 chars of all the <b>data line</b>.
Please can you tell, what could be the problem or let me know any way to see and download all the header line fields.I am using more than 256 chars at both the places i.e. header and data line. Still I am not getting more than 256 chars in the file.
However while downloading that file onto the desktop, it is not showing more than 256 chars for the header part, but it showing all the values of data line, exceeding 256 chars. -

Master Data Flexible Upload from Application Server?
Hi Group,
Anyone know if it's possible to do a flexible upload of master data from a flat file on the application server?
I'd like to upload FS items and hierarchies from the BCS app server into our development environment, then transport to QA & PROD. We would obviously need some way to "save" after the upload was complete.
In the workbench, I can right click--> execute on the flex upload method and get a pop-up for a workstation file. In a data collection method, I can specify a logical file & filename, but I cannot choose master data (which might have allowed me to run a data collection method via the workbench).
Anyone accomplished this before? Or have any ideas if/how this is possible?
Thanks,
- ChrisHi Christopher,
It is not possible to assign Flexible Upload Method with Master Data to be assigned to Data Collection Method.
Flexible Upload with Master Data should be executed independently from Workbench. This is system design.
