File uploads via iCloud?

Why can't I see a way to upload & share files via iCloud? When I bought the iMAC a few weeks ago this was one of the promoted features. In fact I was told I would have 5G of free space?

When I log into iCloud, the available options are Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Notes, Reminders, Find My Phone, iWork. iWork takes me to options to BUY applications called Keynote, Pages, Numbers.
I think I read in another forum that iCloud discontinued free uploads a while back. If that's true, that's one of a few key things the Apple Store associate was wrong about when he sold me my computer.

Files uploaded to iCloud Drive also taking up space on local hard drive

Hello all!
Quick question:
Why are files uploaded to iCloud Drive also taking up space on my hard drive? I want to use my iCloud Drive for cloud based back up of certain files. I do not want these files to sync automatically, but to live in the cloud unless I need them.
When I upload something to iCloud Drive it also appears to be stored locally on my hard drive, as my available disk space is reduced by the size of the file I have uploaded to iCloud Drive.
Thoughts?

Just a short note in addition to Kappy's answer: iCloud is not an additional external storage, it is a common storage for keeping the contents synced across all devices.
What you are moving to iCoud will be copied to all devices that are syncing with iCloud.

I Have already bought items on iTunes in past and wish to upload via iCloud to a new apple device but when downloading some items are missing and requires me to buy them again? I have not long bought these audio books, but I no longer have access computer

Well my first guess was wrong. The line that failed is the one that writes out the image to disk. I've not revisited the code for that script for ages, but it seems I did add in an extra test for missing files a little while later, then forgot to upload the change. I can reproduce the error message if I deliberately rename a file to confuse iTunes so that seems the most likely reason for your problem with the script. I've uploaded a new build of CreateFolderArt which should work better.
See FindTracks for a tool to repair broken links. You should probably get that issue fixed first.

I took some photos with my iphone. They loaded to my workstation via iCloud. I edited them in photoshop to crop and enhance the colors. I then uploaded to ipad via iCloud. When viewed on the device from the photo stream the photo looks fine. But when I save the photo the the device (camera roll) the resolution is chunky.

Hi. I’ve set up a web form that uses html and javascript. This particular form lets you upload files. I also have another page that lets you play videos. I was wondering if anyone knows how to make the inner html of for example the upload file form field equal the file that is played by the video player on the other page.
Basically on youtube when you upload a video it automatically makes another page with the video file you uploaded assigned to the video player on that page. I want to know how to go about doing that. So people can upload videos and then be able to watch them instantly without me manually having to create the page an assigning the right file to the page.
Even just knowing how to create a different page each time the form is submitted would be helpful. Thanks.

This is more complex than you realize and JavaScript alone can't do it. You'll need a server-side script like PHP to authenticate and sanitize file uploads to prevent malicious scripts or malware from ever getting to your server. Then, your script will have to process the uploaded file by saving it to a folder or database, give it a unique ID and then redirect users to a new page that pulls the file into an HTML5 or similar player. How good are you with server-side programming?

File Upload via Drag and Drop in IE10

The drag-and-drop file upload feature introduced in Spaces PS5 is great but it is not compatible with IE9 and earlier versions (see link below).
Has anyone tried using drag-and-drop with IE10? Did it work?

I'm using the Windows version of Acrobat Pro 9 and found this thread with the same problem. (Key command to replace on Windows is: Ctrl + Alt).
Anyway, to answer the how to disable the warning, go to the Acrobat Preferences. In the General category under "Warnings", check the setting "Do not show edit warnings". There should be a similar setting on the Mac version.
(Now I wish replacing pages didn't require a key command like in previous versions.)

General File Sharing Via iCloud

Does anyone know if Apple is planning on offering general document sharing functionality in the cloud? I love to have the ability to drag and drop .ods files [for example] to the cloud to share them across platforms. Does this already exist and I'm missing it?

Nobody in these forums can tell you whether Apple plans to expand the capabilities of iCloud in this direction. People who want general file sharing normally use Dropbox or a similar service.

Recovering Garage Band files Uploaded to iCloud from iPad

I created a .band file using Garage Band for iOS on myiPad. I uploaded it to iCloud. I was able to open it on my iMac (Mavericks). It is saved to iCloud. However,it has disappeared from my list of songs on the iPad. How can I get it back on the iPad from iCloud?!?
I know that it is there, and all the iMac and the iPad have Garage Band activiated and logged in to the correct iCloud account.

No. You can't see the folder because you don't have access to the file system like you do on a PC. If you uploaded a word document to iCloud drive, then you will need an app like Word or Pages or another word compatible program installed on the iPad to be able to view them.

HT4859 Can't access my files uploaded to iCloud, yet iCloud shows 2 out of 5 gigs used. How can I access my files?

I recently had an issues with my old iPhone 4s. I took it in to the apple store but the night before made sure I backed up my files to iCloud. After doing so I made sure my files were backed up because it went from 0 of 5 gigs to 2 of 5 gigs used. When I got my new phone, also an 4s, I tried to recover my contacts and pictures from iCloud, yet nothing happened. When I logged into icloud.com it shows no old contacts, actually none at all. I also can't figure out how to access my old pictures and files on icloud.com. When I go to icloud's settings on my iPhone it clearly shows 2 gigs of files yet when I try to restore the files to my new phone nothing actually gets added to the new phone. How can I access these files???? Anyone have any idea??

just tried restoring from backup and it didn't list it as one of the backup options after i wipe out the iphone yet for some reason it shows up when i go through settings>>>manage storage. thanks anyway. i may have to bite the bullet and sit and wait for a few hours at the apple store, argh...

tomcat (using FileReference.upload() in actionscript 2.0 ), but for
some reason, parameters posted in the url to the file upload
handling script (ej. "uploadScript.jsp?id=1") are lost, ie: the
id=1 is lost.
To double check flash correctly sending params , we've
implemented the same flash object in php and parameters are posted
fine.
Any Ideas, I'm desperate.

Yahoo BrowserPlus file upload

I'd like to offer my users file uploads via the groovy new Yahoo BrowserPlus.
The BrowserPlus API call takes a URL parameter, documented as:
"The url to POST the file to. Can be relative to invoking URL, e.g. if service is invoked from http://www.foo.com/uploader/index.html and url argument is upload.php, the final url will be http://www.foo.com/uploader/upload.php"
Can anyone tell me what the parameter should be set to in order to upload files to WWV_FLOW_FILES?

If you haven't already, install the Firebug plugin for Firefox. Create an APEX page uploads a file. Open Firebug > Net tab > upload your file. You can see exactly what URL and parameters it's posting to (either wwv_flow.show or wwv_flow.accept). Understand that you will probably need at the very least the following parameters in addition to your file:
- p_flow_id (the app number)
- p_flow_step_id (the page number)
- p_instance (the session ID
- p_request (probably optional, but you might want to set it)
You can extract them from any page via JavaScript:
console.log('The App ID is: '+$v('pFlowId'));
I went through this exercise writing my [jApex jQuery plugin|http://tylermuth.wordpress.com/2009/08/19/japex-a-jquery-plugin-for-apex/] and it's a good learning experience.
I looked at the Yahoo BrowserPlus plugin the other day and it seems interesting. I'm curious to see what the uptake will be, as it's pretty new. Let us know how it goes as this would be a great howto for the APEX community.
