Files I send are corrupt but open fine on my computer

I have sent multiple files. .docs, .xls, .jpeg and all arrive at the recipient corrupted. I open them fine on my computer but when I send them it says they are corrupt. What is the problem? Are my files destroyed? I have everything on this computer. It is backed up but I don't know if those are corrupt too. What should I do? Any help would be great. Happens when I use both Safari and Firefox.

Please provide details on "Send". Do you use email (attachment, or copy and paste into the email), do you use FTP, SFTP, CIFS/SMB (Windows) file sharing, AFP (Apple Filing Protocol) file sharing, iChat file transfer, etc...
Are the file sent as is, or do you ZIP them first, or put them in a Mac OS X .dmg container, or any other packaging of the files before they are sent.
The users that are receiving these files, how do they extract them? What application do they use to read the files? What version of the applciation are they using, and what version of the applciation are you using to create these files (file format between versions of an application can change and newer software can create files that older software can not read).
Please be specific on exactly how your "Send" these files, what created the files, what was its version, how the users received the files, what software they used to read the files, what versions were they using. And any other details that may help someone identify the problem.

    Hi M0M1!
I have an article for you that seems to describe your issue and can provide some helpful troubleshooting steps for this issue:
iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1717
Specifically, you will want to focus on this section of the article:
    User-specific troubleshooting
If you experience the issue in one particular user account, the suggestions below may resolve the issue. Before proceeding, you'll need to make hidden files and folder visible in Windows using steps 1-5.
Remove iTunes Preference files. Some of the files that iTunes stores settings and preferences in may be unusable. iTunes saves its preferences in two folders. Move one of them to the desktop and test to see if the issue persists. If it does, move it back and remove the second folder. The locations for the preference folders are:
    c:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
    c:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
    Create a new iTunes Library.
Hold the Shift key while opening iTunes. You'll be asked to choose an iTunes library.
    Choose Create Library.
In the following window, select a location to save the new iTunes Library.
Click Save. iTunes will open the new library. After you close iTunes, you can always select the original library by holding the Shift key while opening iTunes.
Recreate your iTunes Library. If your iTunes library has become unusable, rebuilding it may resolve the issue.
Check for issues with content files. Sometimes an audio file can cause iTunes to quit unexpectedly or stop responding when it's analyzing gapless playback information. To determine which file may be causing the issue, follow the steps below:
    Quit iTunes.
    Navigate to the iTunes folder:
    Windows Vista: c:\users\username\Music\iTunes
    Windows 7 and Windows 8: c:\users\username\My Music\iTunes
Move the iTunes Library.itl file to your desktop.
Open iTunes. You shouldn't see any content in iTunes.
Choose File > Add Folder to Library.
Navigate to the folder where your music is located:
    Windows Vista: c:\users\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media
    Windows 7 and Windows 8: c:\users\username\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media
Choose an artist, album, or song to add to the library.
Wait for iTunes to successfully add the item to your library and perform the gapless playback scan.
If successful, continue adding songs to your library.
If there is an issue with one of your files, you'll notice your issue reappear after you add it to the library. You should repeat these steps, being careful not to add the files that caused the issue.

There are some keyboard commands (shortcuts) you can use instead of having to go to the Apple menu -
Control-Eject          This brings up the Restart-Sleep-Cancel-Shutdown window.
Command-Option-Eject          This puts the machine to sleep.

And it would be in your email's Sent folder (not Adobe Send's). If you look at https://cloud.acrobat.com/sentfiles, does it show that the file has been Viewed? If the Views column shows a 0, then nobody has yet viewed it. If you're concerned, you can select the file by clicking the check box, then select Unshare. • Unable to open Macro file in Excel 2013 but opens fine in Excel 2010

    Hello,
Hopefully someone can help us.  We have a Macro Excel file created with Password Protected to open as well as to Modify.  The file opens fine in version 2010. However, in Excel 2013, we get an error message "Cannot run the macro "filename.xlsm'!QC'.
The macro may not be available in this workbook or all macros may be disabled.  However, if we removed the password all together, the file can be opened in Excel 2013 without any issues.  We do NOT want to have the file without the password so any
    help is appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
Do you have the latest update of 2013, there has been changes in dec 2014 that causes problems with VBA code.
Maybe that is also the reason here. See below link for more information.

  • Large scheduled DeskI reports are corrupt, but reported as successful

    Hi, everyone.
One of our customers have recently upgraded from R2 to XI 3.1 SP2 + FP 2.9.
It is a standalone system (not clustered) running on Windows Server 2008 64-bit.
All BO server settings are default settings.
The problem was found when testing reports after migration.
After migrating, they have problems with some of their large reports.
These reports contain several prompts, and will take more than 3 hours to complete if the selection criterions are not limited significantly by using the prompts.
This was not a problem in R2.
    The problem is as follows:
If one schedules the report and limits the data to retrieve, say, one month of data only, the reports schedules just fine and the instance can be opened without problems.
But, if one increases the time period to a year, retrieving a lot of data, we run into problems.
The history of the report will tell us that the report has run successfully, but when we open the instance in InfoView the report will immediately fail with an error message which just says Error: INF.
    Nothing more.
I then tested by finding where the physical files for the instances were located in the Output File Repository using Query Builder.
The small instances can be opened directly using DeskI full client.
When opening the reports which gave me Error: INF in InfoView, I get "Unknown Error. FRM0007." in DeskI. This indicates that the u201Cbigu201D reports are corrupt.
Also, if we schedule to PDF, the PDF generated only contains "placeholders" for the data.
See this link for screenshot from a part of such a PDF. [PDF with errors|http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n597/AffectoASM/datalabels.png]
So the problem is: The scheduled reports runs for more than 3 hours and are reported as being successful. However, the report instance generated is corrupt.
Do anyone here know what might be the cause of this?
    Thanks!

Appreciate the response, although I do not understand the SMB reference as I thought iSCSI was a direct block transfer.  Indeed the memory load does increase during the period of the network activity.  So caching applies to iSCSI
direct block access as well as SMB?  Apologies for my ignorance.
iSCSI is cached on client side just like any physical disk (marked removable or not). So files you copy go to Cache and Memory Manager cache before traveling down storage stack pushed by Lazy Writer. So you see what you see: smaller amount of writes (<RAM
size) go immediately to memory and then storage stack, TCP, iSCSI and network actually kick in.
StarWind VSAN [Virtual SAN] clusters Hyper-V without SAS, Fibre Channel, SMB 3.0 or iSCSI, uses Ethernet to mirror internally mounted SATA disks between hosts.

  • When I tried to back up my computer, Time Machine says 'an error occurred while creating the backup folder.' When I check the side of the partition where I manually saved old files, the folders are there, but NONE of the files are.

I haven't backed up my computer in over a year. When I tried to back it up today, Time Machine says 'an error occurred while creating the backup folder.' When I check the side of the partition where I manually saved old photos and documents (including all the pictures from the year I studied abroad/traveled a bunch), the folders are there, but NONE of the files are.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be, or how I could fix it? I really don't want to lose all those photos

So you were doing a time machine backup to another partition on the same hard drive? Just trying to gather some information so i can provide a helpful response.

  • IDML FILE WONT OPEN IN CC VERSION BUT OPENS FINE IN CS6 WTF?

    Hi,
I am having a big issue that makes no sense.
I am using CC indesign and saving files to IDML.
When i try to reopen that file with CC indesign, the software freezes and pretty much crashes.
Opening it with CS6, there is no issues.
What doesnt make any sense is that when i am saving with CC, i assume i should be able to reopen it with CC.
but it does not allow me to do so.
    Does anyone know the cause?
I can only find information of the opposite of what i am asking. So i assume i am the only one having this stupid issue.
I am unable to contact adobe myself, if someone could please help me resolve this issue!
    Thanks

@slim617 – hard to tell what's going wrong.
What is the exact version of CC?
What is your version of OS?
Did you try to open the IDML file with the current version of CC 2014? v.10.2.0.69

  • Installation Files from OLS are corrupt. Any other download options?

Hello, I've had both Premiere and Photoshop Elements since 2008. A few nights ago my XP box died and so I am slowly reinstalling my apps. I went to the OLS and downloaded the install files, but the Premiere install blows up with a corrupt cab file error. I tried Tech Support today for around 20 minutes and no one answered. I tried the Chat option and they referred me to the Tech number.  Is there a way to get the files somewhere else in order to install the app? It runs for ten minutes before giving the corrupt file message. Thanks for any help.
If this forum is moderated by Adobe people, I can furnish serial numbers and AD numbers to verify, thank you. Incidentally, the install process for the photoshop app installed fine, although it was much smaller. (451 MB). The Premiere 7z file is 3 GB in size.

What versions of PSE and PrE are you talking about. I believe that the PrE 7 is still available as a two file download. This will be the trail version, but you should just need to input your S/N and convert to the full-paid version. I do not know about PSE.
Now, if you have earlier versions than PrE 7, there might well be a problem.
Also, this is a user-to-user forum. Adobe just offers us space. There is little, to no, Adobe presence here. With the exception of two "survey" posts on PrE 8, no one from Adobe monitors this forum. The tireless MOD here, Steve Grisetti is not an Adobe employee, though I think that he does get to dine in the Official Adobe Cafeteria, when he travels to San Jose.
Please do not post any S/N's, case #'s, or any other personal data here. This is an open forum, and almost anyone can read it, plus there are 'bots that crawl it daily, just looking for personal data.
Good luck, and please let us know about the version numbers.

  • Unable to open .doc & .docx attachments goes directly to send mail window .pdf opens fine

I am running Windows Vista Ver. 6.0.6002 Svc pack 2 Build 6002. Tbrd 24.5.0. AVG 2014.0.4592. In the send mail window the attachment is in the attachment box with the correct name on it. Everything worked fine a couple of weeks ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Rick

Thank you for your reply but unfortunately that did not help. I have the option set to use Microsoft word as the default program for .doc attachments and now it comes up with the file is possibly corrupt. If I go back to a .doc attachment that I had previously opened it does the same thing in that if I set the option to ask me what to do and I select Word it says the file is corrupt. I just discovered that if I save the attachment to a file then open the saved version with Word it works fine so that to me proves that the file is not corrupted. Now that I know how to get the file to display on my screen I will do that from now on but it is not right.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Cannot open pdf files downloaded using firefox. They open fine using safari, and used to open fine before my latest update of firefox.????

I am running the latest version of snow leopard on my mac. Since the last update of Firefox, I have not been able to open any newly downloaded pdf's. I get a message that says "The file cannot be opened.
it may be damaged or use a file format that preview doesn't recognize."
When I download using Safari, everything works fine. I have been using Firefox for a long time and all of my bookmarks are in Firefox.

I also disabled adobe npapi plug-in and now the pdf files open as usual.

  • Pics in iphoto are there but open as a grey exclamation point, help!

I impoted pictures from my other computer and it worked for a few months, then it would not open some pics. I can see them when i scroll over all thumbnails or when one picture is open and thumbnails are at the bottom, but when i click to open, the Grey Exclamation Point comes up! Any Help?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Safari won't bounce on dock but opens fine?

It in itself isn't the issue but the only way I can reset the browser is to force quit.

    Ok...
    Might be corrupted Dock preferences.
    Go to ~/Library/Preferences
Move the com.apple.dock.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.
    See if that helps...

  • Mac Mail- all incoming photos are corrupted- but only on my MBP, not my iphone. Any ideas?

    Hi,
My Mac Mail is driving me bonkers!
For the last week or so, it's been extremely erratic on my Macbook Pro (seems fine on my phone). First it dumped all of my sent messages- then it gradually loaded them all up again, over the course of a couple of hours.
Then it dumped three year's worth of messages from my inbox, slowly adding them back in again over the next couple of days (this still seems to be happening in some form or other in that my mail activity frequently tells me that 800 emails (for example) are downloading.
Most irritating of all, I can't receive any images without them being corrupted. They're fine on my phone- this is definitely a MBP only problem.
I've not changed anything recently- and my phone is still running iOS 6.1.3
    Any ideas?

I switched around 9 years ago. Second Mac, first problem I've ever really had in all that time. It dumped another 30,000 emails this morning- including ones that I need to work with right now. Still receiving garbled images.
Went to schedule a call with Apple- see if they can shed any light on it. Going to get back to me in 6 days. Brilliant.
It's just not good enough. This isn't what I'm paying for.
