Files open using Notepad o always in minimized size

All of a sudden, when I open a file using note pad, it always open in minimized size, I have to give an extra click to maximaze it.
I searched on line, and tried something like to setup in Notepad property window, in run field , set it to normal.
Or tried open it and maximize it and close it, nothing works.
I can open a new notepad document in big window, but not for all existing files.
Please help what I should do.

Word file opened using WEBUTIL getting locked

Hi, I am opening a word file using webutil's client_host and it is getting locked even after I close it. There is no winword.exe running in the machine(Task Manager). If I try to open the file, it says 'the file is being used by another user, do you want to make a copy of it ?'. Is any setting in the word itself or is it the default behaviour of client_host. Any ideas ?

In my webdynpro application...I have a button and the action "OpenFile"...

it is possible to access the file from the remote system using webdynpro java. your requirements is quite possible.
the prerequisites are:
the SAP WebAS Server and the remote system are in the same network, and the folder (in your case "SAP") is shared folder with access permissions.
let us assume your remote system name is remSys09.
add an ui element image in the layout. and create an attribute named "image " bind it to the property source
use this below code to show the image.

File Open using Hyperlink

Hello Experts,
I am a new user to BEA Weblogic App server and need help from your side.
I have developed a web application in which i have given a hyperlink of a file inside a jsp
<p>Expiry Report</p>
but when i am clicking on the above hyperlink instead of opening the file with option ( open, save etc), its opening the file in same browser.
That was not the case when i was using any other application server like JBOSS and Tomcat.
So for opening a file thru hyperlink do we have to do any configuration in weblogic.

Sounds like a mime type issue.
Have you set the mime types appropriately by extension in web.xml?

Creating UDL file for use of HFMCopyApplication utility

I'm trying to create the UDL file on the HFM server to link to the SQL database where HFM sits.
I followed the instructions and created a new text document, rename it as extension .udl. According to the instruction, I'm supposed to double click on this new file and an data link property window will appear. But all I see is still a blank text document.
Am I missing something? In the past I always asked our application support guys to do that but now I have to figure it out myself....

Hi,
The reason to rename the file to .UDL is that the UDL extension should be mapped to an application that will let you make a database connection.
You either have one of two problems if double clicking on the UDL file opened in Notepad:
#1 - At some point .UDL file extensions were mapped to point to Notepad (or whatever text editor the file opened in) [I'm doubtful this is the problem]
#2 - In Windows Explorer you do not have file extensions visible; therefore, when you renamed your file, it didn't rename it the way you wanted it to. For instance instead of renaming database.txt to database.udl, you ended up with database.udl.txt This file would still open in Notepad as .TXT is associated with Notepad (or other text editor).
IF #2 is the problem, do the following:
#1 - Open a File Explorer window and navigate to the folder with the UDL file.
#2 - Click on Tools
#3 - Folder Options
#4 - Click on View
#5 - Make sure 'Hide extensions for known file types' is unchecked.
#6 - Hit OK
#7 - Refresh the File explorer window and note the filename.
#8 - If the filename is something like .UDL.txt, rename it to remove te .txt.
If #1 is the issue: (Note : I'm giving you windows 7 version which may be different than XP, but it should still be in the control panel somewhere)
#1 - Open Control Panel
#2 - Open Default Programs
#3 - Open Set Associations
(NOTE: Instead of steps 1-3 click Start and type in associations and one of the results will be to set file associations)
#4 - Locate the .UDL file extension and confirm it is set as Microsoft Data Link, OLE DB Core Services

How can I open any file on my computer directly from firefox now?
I used to just click on File>open>(filename) ie any of my Open Office files,
Notepad files, or any other file on my PC. Don't seem to have this ability
with the new menu icon, or am I missing something.

hello cormact, you can customize the firefox interface and put the open file button into the firefox menu: [[Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars]]
or you can always open it with the keyboard shortcut ctrl+o....

Save As / File Open dialog boxes too large to use on laptop

I have a Macbook Air and am using one of the new Apple LED Cinema Displays, although this problem was also present when I was using my older Apple Studio Display.
The problem is that some of the system dialog boxes, notably File Open and Save As are huge when I am just using my Macbook with no external screen. They are so big i cant see the lower right drag handle and make them smaller and cant access buttons at the bottom like "New Folder".
I think this is because I resized the dialog box when I last had my large external monitor connected and now that it is not connected (I'm at home on holiday not at work) I cant find a way to make them reset to their normal size.
Does anyone know anything that would help? I've had a good search online and also in these forums and havent found anything - but apologies if I've missed an existing open thread.

This did not work for me - and in my case it was the "Export" Save As sheet in Keynote. There is a real solution for this problem. Firstly all user 'preferences' and these are things that include not only preferences set in the application's preferences window but also window position, size, recent items etc. are stored in the preferences .plist file for an application (stored in the users account Library folder) . If an application starts to behave strangely, crashes on start etc. deleting this file while the application is NOT running can often fix a problem. So if a window is in an unusual location or partially off-screen then trashing the file often will fix the problem (BTW - if you are unsure how to find the file activate the Finder and select the "GO" menu -> "Go to Folder" and type ~/Library/Preferences - make sure you are not in the System's preferences folder - deleting these items is typically bad...). Preference files for an application are typically named com.companyname.programname.plist. So for Keynote the plist is com.apple.keynote.plist. Preferences are recreated when the application is launched. Often though this is a bit extreme. If you double click a plist file the "Property List Editor" application will start (at least if you have the developers tools installed - all free and on the Leopard DVD - with a free Apple Developer ID you can also run the most up to date version pre-snow leopard). In the plist editor all of the various options available in the program are listed - ones from the preference panel and other application information. In the case of Keynote (possibly other apps - I haven't checked) the NSNavPanelExpandedSizeForSaveMode key stores the size of the Save/Save As sheet. I downsized from a 17" MBP to a 15" MBP and the string size for this was 682 wide by 843 tall in pixels - my screen is only 900 px and once you consider the space needed for the application menu bar and tool bar the dialog buttons were 'just' barely visible - tauntingly so. I dropped the height to 743, saved the plist and reopened Keynote (remember to edit these while the application is not running - and always save a copy first before editing the file). This worked for me perfectly and unlike other suggestions here provides precision control. Now having said that 1) these files are XML and can be edited using a text editor but the plist editor is much prettier; 2) typically the keys are named using their appropriate Coca names for the property - but each developer can and does write their own code often deviating from Coca - hmm MS, Adobe come to mind - so remember that its good to read through the plist and Google to make sure that you are editing the correct information; 3) plists are automatically recreated if you really screw-up and need to delete - unfortunately in doing so Word will forget that no-one actually likes "when editing automatically select the whole word" so you will need to redo all of those kinds of preference tweaks.

Open the existing VI with all the indicators.

Does the code make sense so far?
Is it a statemachine or just a bunch of crisscrossed wires?
Where do you want to add the file read?
How should the file be read (after pressing a read button, at the start of the program ,etc.)
See how far you get!

Photoshop CS4 crashes using File | Open

Hoping someone can help me here. Photoshop always crashes when using the File | Open dialog box. I can navigate to a photo in the dialog box but when I click Open it immediately crashes. I can open a file through the Finder by clicking Open With then selecting Photoshop and it works fine. Any ideas? Here's a snippet of the crash report:

As a side note - You are using Snow Leopard. Unfortunately it does seem to crash sometimes when Opening and Saving files. There is also a long pause when saving files, which I notice. This happens on large files.
I am in the same position having just started a long freelance job on a new mac with Snow Leopard pre-installed. On an extremely production heavy job with many saves on large files and incredibly tight deadlines, its possible I will lose a lot of work. I have noticed some improvement maybe, since upgrading to 10.6.3?
Personally I may try to wipe the drive and install Leopard, but I am not sure if this is possible.

Minimizing files open in photoshop elements 10

I was wondering if there is any way to minimize an open file in the work space down to the project bin. All I can see is the x for closing. Did some bright young programmer take away the - for minimizing? I usually have many files open for digital scrapbooking and I only want one file up in the project bin--not every single thing I have open. It's very frustrating and inconvenient.

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to do. The Project Bin will show all open images -- you can use it as a quick "navigation" tool to select the image you want to work on.
The tabbed document interface by default displays the selected image only, with the other images listed as tabs across the top of the image area so you can switch between them by selecting another tab.
You can also change the display to show more than one image at once by using the display options dropdown:
That's all the flexibility one needs to work with multiple images, isn't it?

Adobe has been using confusing version names for at least five years.
There are now two versions labeled CC, version 9 and version 10 (also known as CC 2014). Version 10 is the latest, and if you attempt to open a version 10 file in Version 9 that is not fully patched you will get an error message telling you that the file cannot be opened. The latest patch for version 9 should use a cloud-based service at Adobe to convert version 10 files to IDML and allow you to open that.
I suspect you may be using an older operating system. Version 10 requires that your system runs at least OS X 10.7 or Windows 7 SP1 and if you are not it will not even be offered to you.

Cannot view older files using "File / Open"

We have literally thousands of files going back many years and sometimes I'm required to do a visual search. I have CS4 and when I use "File / Open" to preview old files sometimes it will show the file and sometimes it won't - generally the ones that will not preview are older files that have the little black symbol in the lower left corner of the file icon. I cannot open all these files and update them to CS4 just to be able to do a visual search. Is there a way around this? And not, viewing in thumbnail mode in an explorer window doesnt help - it just shows the AI file icon larger.

Well, I think that it does. Those old files simply don't contain a PDF or EPS page preview, which is what the file dialog uses. That basically means they were not saved with PDF compatible content at all or the option to embed page thumbnails was turned off at least, which was common way back in teh old days. I'm afraid there is no solution otehr than to use Bridge and even that may not always work...
