I keep getting pop-up messages telling me to transcode to proxy, but it wont let me. How can I transcode these clips to proxy? Thanks!

I keep trying to export my files and the only that i ave figured out how to do it is to share on my default file so that i can have a accessable file so i can upload it to youtube , or directly share to youtube . it wont convert i always get an error message

You are using a version prior to 10.1. The 10.0.8 version in particular had export failure tendencies.
Sometimes they were caused by corrupted clips and just as often by bad renders – even though he error message didn't differentiate.
The delete (or replace) clip solution that Ian Brown suggested is worth trying. An alternative way to locate the reported frame position is to go to Preferences and change Time Display to Frames.
If deleting (or replacing) the clip at that frame location leaves you still unable to share, then turn off background rendering select your project in the Project Library and then from the File menu, Delete Project Render Files (choosing All); do a similar exercise to get rid of event render files. Without rendering, see if you can now export.

Updated Final Cut Pro X won't let me open old projects

Final Cut Pro Trial won't let me export

So I got the Final Cut pro Trial about 2 weeks ago and I was able to export 3 videos just fine. Now all of a sudden I just finished my 4th video, added commentary and everything else and it won't export. I don't see anything wrong with the project except for some reason the cross dissolve transitions won't render. Nothing is going on in the background, I've tried closing out the program, restarting my computer, nothing helps. I can export any other projections too. For some reason I click file, share, master file and nothing happens. I'm able to click it, but once I click it, nothing happen, where as before the export settings pop up. I always tried using the export option on the right, and the same thing happens. I checked and all the files are working fine, so it's not like any clips are missing. Can anyone help? Thanks

Could you post a screen shot of the project libary and the toolbar?
Reinstalling the app doesn't effect the events or projects. Sounds like some weird permissions problem.

Final Cut Pro X program crashed can't find project files

Final Cut Pro X jsut crashed on me and I am now unable to open up any of the project files. Please help. Every time I try to open up a file it says that the project file cannot be openend, that is all it says, no info, no error explanation.
Poof - months worth of work gone.

Try replacing the currentversion with the backup version.

Oddly enough, according to Apple's Knowledge Base article (for FCP 5), the answer is neither. <shrug> (this must be new for FCP 5)
Once you're done with that, go ahead and download FCP Rescue - graciously hosted by Patrick Sheffield - so you don't have to get your hands dirty the next time you're forced to do this.

My Final Cut pro x will not let me do 1 frame stills

I am working with a Time lapse and final cut x will not let me make the duration any shorter than 2 seconds. How do I over ride?

The selection duration can be made very small, but of course it's very difficult to deal with a one frame selection. Usually the best thing is to convert the image sequence to video before bringing it into FCP, or you can put all the items in the timeline, select them, and set the duration to one or two frames.

Final Cut Pro X won't let me export because I worked from an SD card

Hello,
I made the stupid mistake of editing my project from an SD card and now FCPX won't let me export it. I have since exported the original files onto my hard drive and I attempted to relink the files in the project folder but no luck. The option to relink files opens a dialogue box but the computer can't seem to find the files and the option to manually locate the files is greyed out. This is a time sensitive issue and if I can't solve the problem I will have to stay up all night to complete the project again. The video files are AVCHD, does this have something to do with it? I am not very tech savvy so I have no idea what to do. Help??

TTry the reimport from camera function to import from the card.

It doesn't crash or anything, I literally double click the text and nothing happens, I can click it as much as I like and nothing happens, I can't edit it. help!

I am having an identicle problem - I double click the text and it does nothing. When the clip is selected, the text gets a white border around it - and i cannot double-click it to edit.
I tried to insert a screen shot but the 'insert image' button wouldn't work - ironic how everything breaks when i need it .

How to save Final Cut Pro project to an ftp server to then open on a different computer

Hello, I work for a graphic design firm that also does video production for businesses. We are using Final Cut Pro X in our office which has an FTP server connected to all office computers.
What we want is to be able to have on employee start a project in Final Cut Pro X, save it to the server; then have another employee open up the same project and continue working from a different computer.
Right now, we have a lot of our Final Cut files saved to the server, and the files will show up in the server on the other employee's machine. BUT, we scroll in the server to the file for the Final Cut Pro project on the other computer, and the file is grayed out, unable to be opened on the new computer.
I've tried right clicking and choosing "open with Final Cut" and Final Cut does then open, but right before it opens the project within Final Cut, a message comes up saying "The document could not be opened. Open documents from within Final Cut Pro," which of course, I see no way to do that from within Final Cut Pro.
I've also called Apple Care, they reminded me that we can't have one project open on two computers at the same time, and that's fine. We are willing to close the project on computer one to then open on computer two.
If you have an answer let me know. We don't want to have to load onto an external hard drive to then load onto the other machine, especially since we have a server ready to go.

You can share projects via the ftp server, but you need to:
1) Have all the media in identical events on each editor's machine;
2) Set up the project and share the entire folder for that project first;
3) Afterwards, you can share just the project file itself
You CANNOT work directly on projects and events stored in the ftp server.

Is Final Cut Pro the only software that can open video .MXF files for Macs?

Trying to find software that will edit .MXF Video Files to work with Mac.
As the edit is simple, prefer iMovie, but happy if the Conversion software only works with FCExpress (or even FCPro if that is the only alternative).
1. If it matters, .MXF (Material Exchange Format) Video files came from shooting on a Panasonic 500 P2. Originally downloaded onto a Windows system, using Adobe Premiere.
2. I just want to see and convert some of the shots I did for my Reel, etc., but I have a Mac.
3. I have iMovie HD, iMovie 09, and FCExpress (which I don't know how to use that well).
4. When I attach an External HD with backup files of all the footage shot, they show up named as .MXF files. They appear as VLC files (VLC icon), but the suffix is .MXF.
5. When I try to play them as VLC files, they won't play. It seems they start to play, but then the VLC software quits.
6. So I have tried downloading some software on the Internet that Google says converts .MXF files.
I tried: iSkysoft Video Converter, AVCWare Mac Video Converter, MPEG Streamclip, and a couple others. They all seem to have basically the same conversion setups, but when I click to pick one .MXF file, none of them recognize it. (The file in my Browse window is greyed out).
7. MoyaVideo Converter for Mac recognizes the .MXF file, but when I hit the "conversion" button - I tried a couple different settings, all it seems to convert is the first frame. Even if the .MXF file says a clip is 123MB or 43 seconds long, etc.
8. I can't even watch the clip in Preview. Press Play and it is just the first frame.
9. I have read elsewhere in these forums, some people touting conversion software from a company in Germany - mfxformac. I am fine with paying for conversion software, but $500?
10. And I have read elsewhere that only Final Cut Pro has a codec that will open .MXF files. If this is so, why do the above companies claim to have software that opens .MXF files for Mac?
11. Isn't there a further problem if I can't even see the video using VLC? Or is that because I am using Mac and need FCPro with the right codec?

MXF files from P2 can only be imported using FCP. iMovie can't, nor FCE...if you are talking about APPLE software. Avid deals with MXF files natively. But FCP will ONLY import them if the entire P2 card structure is intact. Please tell me that you have the entire P2 card backups. If not, then it won't work. If you do...then here is the process for importing into FCP:

Then you need someone to provide you with QT files of this footage. None of them work with P2.
NONE of the converters you listed will work... Sorry.

That software is to get it to work with Final CUt Pro natively. What it doesn't do is convert the footage to QTs. There is also Raylight and Calibrated...but again, they are for FCP.
P2 is a professional format, and to use it you need professional software. iMovie won't work...nor will FCE. If you need to work with it in those formats, you need to have someone import the files and convert them to AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec).
HD Log might work...but not sure what QT format it converts to. A demo is available.
