Finder Menu Icons Missing

My finder menu Icons are missing this all began after I was in a login screen and ran a micro fiber cloth across the keyboard. Since then I have lost all my menu icons and boot up takes five minutes this is a Brand new 27" IMac (February 2014) running Mavericks OSX 10.9.2
I have repaired Pemissions and deleted the finder.plist
Anyone have any idea whats going on? Any Ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • GNOME menu icons missing?

I'm writing this from Debian box and here they have icons for each menu entry for Places and System.
How come in ArchLinux those are missing? Was it Debian that spiced up the GNOME or was it ArchLinux that does something differently from upstream GNOME configuration?

  • 5800 Download! menu icon missing

A while ago my 5800XM locked up and I had to reset it to the original factory settings. After that my phone worked perfectly but whenever I tried to open the "Download!" icon thing it said something like "Fatal error has occured -shutting down" and wouldn't open. Then I updated my phone a few days ago to V 51.0.006 and I opened the menu to find that the Icon had completely gone! I wasn't that disappointed because I thought it was just a link to an app download site or something but I recently read somewhere that it has stuff like a .zip opener and I really need something like that on my phone. Does anyone know what has happened and how I can get it back???
I was born in the wrong generation for music but the right one for technology! ;D

Yes I do have it on my phone,I had it just before I reset my phone too and it replaced the Download! icon but now it's in my applications folder. I hardly ever use it anymore though because whenever I try to download something it says "download failed" or when I'm just browsing it it closes itself. It never used to do that and it's quite annoying.
If Ovi Store replaced the download! icon the what happened to the .zip file opener? I have frequently read that the 5800 is capable of opening .zip files but oddly whenever I touch a zip file it opens the Ovi Maps application

  • Desktop and finder window icons missing

Some of the icons on the top of my desktop suddenly went blank. they are there since I can click where they were and still use them. The same has happened to the top of the finder window as well. Here are some screen shots. Any one have an idea how to fix this? I ran MainMenu Pro disk permissions repair, cleaned the cache, did all maintenance and restarted with the no result.

    Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist and com.apple.finder.plist. Move the .plists to your desktop.
Re-launch Finder by restarting and test. If it works okay, delete the plists from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plists to where you got it  from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

  • Help-Finder icons missing!!! Problem Solved

    Please help!
My finder menu icons are missing! Also, my finder preferences are missing. When I try to open the preferences for finder, nothing happens. My icons are also missing. There is no view or forward, back, or view icons. I have tried to remove them and bring them back, but they never show. if i select the area where the icon is supposed to be, it will go back or forward, but the action button( the space where it used to be) doesn't work. when i log into a different user on the same computer, evrything is normal, so it is an issue on my login.
    Any ideas?
Probelm Solved-I found another thread and did the recommended deletion of the finder preference files, restarted the computer, and everything returned to normal!!!
    Thanks

You're saying that in the /Home/Library/Caches/ folder there is no folder name 'com.apple.finder?' This is a folder, not a file.
You can also move the /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist file to your Desktop and relaunch the Finder
Your files are fine. You cannot simply delete a user account nor replace it with another. So for now do not even try.
    You might also do this:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • HELP! - Missing Finder Menu and HD Icon

I just upgraded my old iBook G3 Dual USB to 10.3.9 and updated all the software (except for iSight - since I don't own one). The problem lies in that after start-up, I don't see the icon for the Hard Drive and I don't see the Finder menu bar - where the Apple Icon, Finder, File, Edit, View, Go, Window, Help are supposed to be. I can't even get to the Applications or Home by keying their shortcuts i.e. Command-Shift-A or Command-Shift-H.
The screen is not flickering (the logic board has been replaced already), all the other applications run normal and while they are running I can see the menu bar for each application, for now it just seems the finder doesn't want to play nice.
I have reset PRAM, PMU to no avail. The RAM is at 768MB. I feel it has something to do with Panther since it never did that with Jaguar. If somebody has any clue as to what I could try, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
iBook G3 Dual USB   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

My bad - memory is at 384MB. Force quitting does not work. I get the small window but -Finder- does not show, and when it comes up it flickers on and off and I can't select it to force quit it . My drive has 22.65 GB available, so I don't think that's where the problem lies. Looking at the System Profiler, under Logs, are the following lines:
    Mac OS X Version 10.3.9 (Build 7W98)

Does or should this help figure out what's going on? As I type this, I can see the menu bar for Safari, the modem status, the clock, basically everything that you are used to. It all seems to be working OK except for the Finder menu! Well, thanks for the reply and the suggestions and if the above lines mean anything to you or anybody out there, please let me know.

  • Menu Bar Icons Missing

Pre-Yosemite I was running Obsidian Bar and Bartender but since I've update my menu is missing several icons including the time, batter image/percentage, and user. When I go to System Preferences and select Date & Time and go to clock, whenever I check the box that says "Show date and time in menu bar" but every time i check the box it will instantly uncheck itself.  I don't use time machine so thats not an option.  Looking for a way to reset my menu bar to factory settings without changing my entire laptop

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • What is this Icon?  (Upper Right Finder Menu Bar)

There is an icon on the upper right of the Finder menu that is all gray and is a thin vertical line with two equal sized triangles lined up on it on the right side, and a squiggly line going across the center of the line horizontally.
I clicked on it and it caused my cursor to become a multicolored wheel while in the Finder toolbar, and I'm going to have to log out to get it to stop. It doesn't appear in the Force Quit list (unless it's Finder, System Profiler, which I don't think it is).
    Sorry for the dumb question.
Wish we could paste pics in here; I made a Grab shot of it....
    -Linda

I really have no idea which icon you're describing but...
SystemUIServer is background process but one of the apps it specifically controls the right hand side of the Menu bar, where the Menu Extras are and should return your icons to default.
    Go toUsers/yourname/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.systemuiserver.0017f2c28128.plist and delete these files, Then, log out and back in.
EDIT: You can post pics... with the HTML Code. Try http://photobucket.com/

  • Can't find the menu icon on my firefox or mozzila desktop. Where is it?

Need to turn off pop up blockers for some websites. Need to start with menu icon, can't find it, not on desktop.

Note that Firefox 24 doesn't have the "3-bar" Firefox menu button that came with the Australis user interface, but still have the orange Firefox menu button if the menu bar is hidden.

    IMAC G5 2GHz 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    crewman76,
Find the com.apple.systemuiserver.plist file in your ~Library/Preferences Folder, and the com.apple.systemuiserver.000a9597ad54.plist file (your file will have a different alpha/numeric sequence) in your ~Library/Preferences/ByHost Folder, drag them to the Desktop, and log out/in or restart.
If that is unsuccessful, download and reinstall the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Combo for PPC.
Next follow the procedures listed in Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption, by Dr. Smoke.

  • [solved] Gnome/GTK icons missing

    Hey,
yet another icon missing topic, but I didn't find anything similar to my problem in this forum.
    http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/3432 … gicon1.png
    http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/4341 … gicon2.png
    http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/7168 … gicon3.png
As you can see, icons are missing not only in the gnome menu, but also
in firefox (gtk app). Therefore, I think the problem is more related to GTK?!
Yes, I tried serveral icon themes and engines, no success.
    1. Anyone out there who got the same problem?
Because laptop and desktop have the same issue.
    2. Any further information about this issue?
    3. Any suggestions/advices?
    Thanks in advance,
    Max

  • Nokia Maps Icon Missing?

    Good day everyone.
i have just bought this new Nokia Asha 303 phone and i thought the software installed in the phone is incomplete because i cant seem to find the shortcut for nokia maps. I installed the nokia suite in my pc and check  for software updates and it is up to date. I already tried factory reset, but nothing, still the same. Is it possible to restore the missing icon? thanks for any help.
    sorry for bad english

Right after having my new phone I started exploring its possibilities testing applications from Ovi store. At some point I got some problems with an application so I decided it would be a good idea to try a reset... I first try with an app settings reset to defaults (from the s40 Configuration menu, not the Restoring Factory Defaults menu)... right after that I realized I didn't have Nokia Maps icon in any of the lists of installed applications, nor I could found any loader in both file units, phone and memory card, for it... I was not 100% sure the icon vanished after settings reset, but I supposed it, so I thought something went definitely wrong and I decided to try reset to factory defaults as I just started testing the phone so I hadn't any information saved there to lose... what I could not expect it's that a factory reset will not yield the software at the same very state as what I received short time before. In addition to not getting back the Nokia Maps icon, I noticed another difference in the system, I have an Introduction icon in the list of default applications, that triggers a video playback showing the phone basics... now when I push that button, the playback starts but only for the audio, and instead of the video I show a black screen with a NOKIA logo in the center, the same very screen I see when boot up the phone. I've seen https://betalabs.nokia.com/trials/nokia-maps-suite/bugreport/46316/nokia-map-icon-missing-after-inst... this problem is not happening only on s40 OS phones, but at least on Symbian^3 phones they had a stand alone installer to install back the app http://betalabs.nokia.com/trials/ovi-maps-for-mobile-v3-08 Something like this seems what s40 OS phone users like me are needing.
