Finder search results show MP3s with incomplete or changed filenames in Yosemite

Under Yosemite, when performing a search for "mp3" in Finder, certain search results will not display their true filename under the "Name" column:
For example, the "Name" column above should display the entire filename (as shown in the Status Bar), not just what I can only assume is the track title.
This does not apply to all mp3s, only to some. Probably something to do with ID3 tags, or perhaps with certain hyphen usage in the filename.
Anyway, I'd just like the "Name" column to show me the filename as it should, and not metadata. I can't find how to change the results to display the correct filenames.
This causes several problems. First it makes sorting by an album's track number, which is frequently included in the actual filename, in the search results impossible, as now the numbers are not part of the list. Therefore if I want to drag an album into an iTunes Playlist in the correct album order I have to go to the source folder and can't do it straight from the search window. Also I can't see separate versions of the same song, which may have the same track title but different filenames. Also I can't see the filename at a glance, which may include other important information other than the track title. And so on.
I can't find anyone else who has this problem on Yosemite. Mavericks yes... and sadly no help. Hoping it's fixable.

I have the same problem with AIFF's too...
It's a big problem for me as I'm currently doing some sound design.
I need to see the file name in the finder, not the title/track name.

  • In iTunes 11.0.2.26, an Albums search by track names returns albums as if they only have one track on them, but I still want to access the entire album. How can I have the search results show the entire album (with just the searched for name highlighted)?

    Hello, all.
In iTunes 11.0.2.26, an Albums search by track names returns albums as if they only have one track on them, but I still want to access the entire album. How can I have the search results show the entire album (with just the searched for name highlighted)? For instance, I'm wanting to play an album with a particular track on it or I'm searching for albums that include that track. iTunes incorrectly assumes that all I'm after is that one track and then incorrectly displays the album as if there is only one ttrack on it. This is a bonkers default setting. Can I change this?

Click the search magnifying glass and uncheck "Search entire library".
Type in the name of the track.
Click the album of interest to show tracks.
    Select the track.
Press the X in the search box to clear the search.
Double click the track you want to start playing first.

  • Show hidden files in finder search results

I discovered my backup HD was rapidly full because of After Effects Cache folder hughe size.
I fixed it in CCC to not to backup that directory but I need to remove all the old ones.
I am able to see them under Users/Library.......  (hidden by default). I also have deleted some 50Gb AE cache folders.
But I have a lot of folders.
I've tried to search all of them 'Adobe After Effects Disk Cache' but finder search does not display them. I also tried Terminal 'locate' on /Volume/HDbackup, no results
    Thanks

Hi Viking, thanks for your help.
The purpose to get them in Finder search result is to select them all and send them to trash at once.
To test your commands I changed
'~' by /Volumes/....../_CCC\ Archives  and '.*' by 'Adobe After Effects Disk Cache'
I got lots of 'permission denied'
    I also tried
    find -x  ~  -name 'Adobe After Effects Disk Cache' \( -type d -exec find {} \; -prune -o -print \) 2>&1 > hidden.txt
where it is supposed to find one result but hidden.txt was empty
'Adobe After Effects Disk Cache' is a directory
    What do you suggest?
    Thank you

  • SEARCH results - shows file name. Can I change this?

I am using TCS2 in Windows XP.
In Robohelp when you search the online help, it brings back the search results but they are displayed under the filename heading. Can I change that? I don't necessarily want my filename displayed to users... maybe the Chapter name?
    TIA
    -Adriana

    Hi--
I have no solution yet but am having very  much the same problem, and would like to get in on this conversation while I continue experimenting. I'm working TCS2 (Frame 9 and Robo 8), linking the Frame book to Robo to create CSH. I'm a long-time Framer but a newbie to Robo and TCS2.
As far as I can tell from reading through the thread, I've got some kind of variation going: some of my CSH Search results show the heading, and some show the filename. I haven't yet discovered what is the difference in the Frame file, although I believe that's where I'll find it. It's consistent from search to search. (That is, if it a topic shows up in Search results as the filename once, it does so consistently. Ditto others showing up as the heading.)
In addition to hereby signaling moral support (!) and an interest in a solution, I'd like to provide my settings here and see how yours compare.
The marker I created to manage output CSH filenames is "FileName." I'm working with engineers who are not native English speakers and have never implemented  CSH. For the 30 or so (out of 75) topics that actually are going to be  linked from the application, I created FileName  marker text that starts with "LinkTo_<menupath>." (Example:  "LinkTo_WebSecurity_ServerSecurityGroups_Adding.") The idea is to help  them see what to link up where. (It also made editing map IDs faster: I just select and automap any topic name  starting with LinkTo_.)
So I'm getting Search results that look like this:
    Things to know about xyz
    text text text...
    LinkTo_Statistics_Events
    text text text...
My "File > Project Settings > Edit  conversion settings... > Other" settings are:
    Context Sensitive Help Marker: blank
Topic Name Pattern: grayed out but is "(Default)"
    Topic Name Marker:  FileName
Not sure this is optimum. (As I said, a Robo newbie.) Also, my chapter titles and H1 thru H3 are set up to paginate, although I  realized later that filling Topic Name Marker field disables pagination.
Thanks, will keep working on it --

  • Search results showing incorrect modified date

    Hi All,
I have a one difficulty in search results.
Document showing incorrect modified date in search results. And this happens for one document only.
We have customized the search/results.aspx page, Our document is showing correct modified date in document properties,All Items.aspx like 31/4/2013.
But when i search with document name in search, result showing incorrect modified date like 24/6/2004.
I checked with database in SQL, every thing is fine.
I have updated the Modified date through powershell script for one document and after that this recent modified date is showing in search results.
But after updating the Modified date through powershell, issued document not showing the recent modified date in search results. still showing as 24/6/2004.
I should not do edit property and save, to create new version.
I don't know what is happening in search crawl. All ready full crawl running daily basis.
I want to check whether this issued document is crawling or not. Could anybody help me to get out of this. what is the main cause of this issue.
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi,
I'm seeing the same issue after upgrading the SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013.
When I search any upgraded document in SharePoint 2013, the document's "Last Modified Date" was showing an incorrect value in Search Results page but other metadata of document like "Last Modified User" is showing the correct
value so the problem is not with document crawl, something wrong with Last Modified Date property in Search results.
I have seen below comment as answer but I didn't understand the solution to fix this issue for all upgraded documents.
The most likely cause is that there is metadata on the documents that is set to that date which is overriding the other dates in the search result. SharePoint isn't particulary imaginative so it's got to be finding that date from somewhere.
Do we have any solution for this issue? Is this issue will be addressed in SharePoint 2013 SP1?
Note: No issues with documents, which uploaded after upgrade.

  • Wep app search result show on the same product page(product large view).

I tried the web app search result show on the same product page.
e.g checking the postcode which built as web app on the product page, to check availability to ship the user's area.
so the result show on the same page(doesn't necessary to lose the product page), however the web app result doesn't show on the same product page.
There is only way i know is to link another page.
    Anyone has done?

I have done something similar with simple jquery, by loading the results page within a div placed inside the details template.
By doing this I solved all my needs. In your case will work too as long as you only need to show information.

  • Search for a file with part of a filename in a given folder.

How can I search for a file with part of a filename in a given folder?
Or can I change the columns in Advanced Search so that the heading is filename?

thanks, Michel. it had occurred to me to put a scratch tag on the folder, but I was hoping for an easier way. in future I'll do as you suggest though, because it's easier than what I have been doing.

  • Incomplete Finder search results in Mavericks

Hi guys. It appears search results in Finder in Mavericks are incomplete.
I am used to delete preference files left behind after I trash an app -like .plist files located in home folder/library/preferences -they are showed no more in search results. Obviously finder search criteria are customized to show system and hidden files.
It looks like a bug. Can you reproduce same issue?

    Back up all data.
    In Contacts, select
File ▹ Export ▹ Contacts Archive
from the menu bar, and save the archive to your Desktop.
If you use iCloud, disable contact synchronization in the iCloud preference pane. When prompted, click Delete From Mac. Re-enable synchronization. Wait for the contacts to re-synchronize, then test.
If you don't use iCloud, or if the contacts fail to synchronize, delete all contacts, then select
    File ▹ Import…
and import the archive you created. It may take a few seconds for the contacts to be indexed. Test.
If you don't like the results of this procedure, quit the application. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, copy the text on the line below into the box that opens, and press return:
    ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook
Restore the folder that opens from the backup you made before you started.

  • I used to be able to search a subject and have the "results" show up with a new tab, but now it opens the result in the same tab, how do I fix this?

I have tried repeatedly to get the options section to show how to do this but everything changed with the "new-and-improved(?)" Mozilla!
Could someone please explain to me how to get this to work like it used to (open search results or links in a new tab)??? PLEASE, it is driving me nuts since my slow @ssed computer and AT&T (should be AS&S without the &) internet, makes me remember the bad old days of the 286 computer load times:
    Down memory lane...
Power button on ==> go take a Shower, Shave, and the other S ==> Make coffee ==> enable program in command line (pre-windows) ==> fix breakfast and another coffee cup ==> curse at computer because it made you forget to add another switch to your command line...
    How many remember those days?!
They say laughter is the best medicine, except I'm not laughing about the new Mozilla anymore :(

Could you clarify where you are doing your search?
''For Firefox's "Search bar",'' which is the box on the right end of the main navigation toolbar with the icon indicating your currently selected search engine, there is a hidden setting for this:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''sear''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.search.openintab''' preference to switch it from false to true.
If you test, does it work?
''For searches from other places,'' could you be more specific about where you are entering your query (e.g., address bar, built-in home page, on a search engine site)?

  • Search results showing the source before the document title

    Hello,
I have created a BI Catalog in Sharepoint 2010, which consists mainly of libraries with rdl items and I have also set a content source in Search Service to search into these libraries. Search results were fine, but after the
last crawl I have noticed a change in the titles. The latest crawled items begin with  "Reporting Services -" in the title which probably is resulted by a
differientiation in the crawl method. All the past crawled items keep the document name as a title without any prefix.
I  am also certain that the problem is not in the web part which presents the results, because I have found in database level that the title field in the
dbo.MSSCrawlURL table is prefixed for the new items. If you have experienced the same problem please help.  Thank you in advance.

  • T/X model SORTing Find/Search results from Most Current Entry

Have the Palm T/X model, and use the FIND/search function constantly.
The results always come up from the earliest (oldest) entry to the most current.
This is a major league pain-in-the-butt especially when there are tons of entries to go thru to get to the most current date.
Is there any way to sort the FIND results so that they show from most Recent entry to the oldest.
This would be a HUGE Help.
    Thx!
    Post relates to: Palm TX

There is a pulsing, reddish dot in the middle of the
blue light but on the hard drive itself, I don't see
any "lights" in any "menu bar".
It's at blue circle with a white Q-shaped symbol at the right end of your menu bar.
If you dare to use the terminal application (can be found in the utilities folder) you can use the following command to re-index that drive. Start Terminal and type (or paste) the following line and hit enter:
    sudo mdutil -E "/Volumes/xxx/"
Replace "xxx" with the name of Your drive! If there is a space in that name type it like "/Volumes/My\ Drive/"! You will be prompted for Your admin password to proceed.

  • Search results showing ID of Managed metadata field

Our output of the search function in our Sharepoint 2010 intranet shows the id of the managed metadata field (see image).
Every time a managed metadata field is shown in the result, it is followed by it's ID. Does anyone know the solution to this problem? Does this have something to do with the crawl settings of these managed metadata fields? Thx in advance.

    Hi,
what needs to be done is to add a new managed property to your search configuration and map it the field in your search result.
You will find a detailed how to on the following page:
    http://www.insidesharepoint.net/post/Using-taxonomy-fields-in-SharePoint-2010-Part-III.aspx
Whenever you create a new taxonomy field instead of one field two will be created one contain the TermValue|<GUID of Term> and a another one with
    with term value itself.
If you create a field named "color" then you will find the following fields in the crawled property "ows_color" and "ows_taxid_color". The first field "ows_color" is the one you need to use.
If you are more interested in how Taxonomy Fields work you should check out my blog post:

  • Finder search not showing all files

I'm using Finder to search for files on a server connected to my computer at work. The search results I am getting do not include all the files that meet my search criteria. For example, I am looking through photo files for any files with "34" in the name. Some files show up, but not all of them. See screenshot. I am searching in the "Branded Photoshoot" folder, and I am getting some results (Branded Photoshoot/Hilton Universal/IMG_1434), but another file that is in folder, though a different subfolder, (Branded Photoshoot/Architectural Center/IMG_1534) is NOT showing up. What is causing that subfolder and its files to not be included in the search results?

You're searching for "1434" (not just 34) and getting only files with 1434 in it:

  • Finder Search Results DATE CREATED / 10.5=MOST USELESS O.S. OF ALL TIME?

Please Please Please tell me there's still a way to turn on the view options in finder search windows/results to display a files "Date Created" / "Date Modified" / "Size" etc. (basically all the options we have in a finder list view window).
Seriously, if we are limited to Name/Kind/Last Opened with no way to see, at the very least, Date Created/Modified in the search results Mac OS 10.5 has just become useless to meet my needs. I mean totally and entirely useless. I mean sell my iMac and buy a windows box so I can find my files useless.
Just tell me there's a way to turn on ALL the view options.
<Edited by Moderator: Please See Terms of Use>

There does not seem to be any way to restore Finder's behavior and options for search as it was in Tiger etc. Leopard's Finder view options aren't even allowed any longer in search windows (go to View->Options to get a frustrating message about it).
There seems to be NO 3rd party utility to allow real-time file search and display/sort results by size -- obviously noone wrote it, since Finder used to be able to do that - until Leopard, that is.
If this is a bug it's a pretty big and obvious one. I've reported it on bugreporter.apple.com (I guess others have done the same).
If it were to be considered a "feature" in Leopard, it'd be one of the most limiting ones in 10.5 - this one and the Dock's Stacks are pretty high on the list of useless "new features" in Leopard. John Siracusa wrote in his excellent review about these and others (at http://arstechnica.com/reviews/os/mac-os-x-10-5.ars/12) :
"+Not only does the Leopard Finder take no bold steps towards a brave new world of file management, it even further distances itself from a coherent incarnation of established file management paradigms. The changes in Leopard do indicate that Apple has taken a renewed interest in improving the Finder, but motion is not the same thing as progress. For where I'm sitting, it looks like one step forward, two steps back.+"
Speaking as someone who's been developing software on Mac OS X since pre-Aqua Mac OS X Server 1.0 days, I sadly have to agree...
