Finder view changing in OSX 10.8.5

I keep everything in Finder on my Mac in column view, which is sorted by name.  Occasionally, when I open a folder, the next column that opens shows the folder contents in "date created" view mode without my changing it.
Why does this happen and how can I lock all folder views to my default, which is set to "none" or "name", depending on the folder?

So, this happened to me again this morning.  When I CMD + J, the "sort by" is greyed out, and only "arrange by" is available, which has somehow set itself to "Date created" despite my changing it "name" every time this happens.
I'm just frustrated and confused since I don't know why this keeps changing.
Also of note: I use a different station occasionally at work and this will randomly happen to me there as well.  It's under a different login than mine, so it's not like my preferences are carrying over.
Is this not a known issue?  Nobody else has had this problem?

  • Finder views change for all windows

After playing around with Snow Leopard for just a few days, I noticed that when I change a view type in any Finder window, that view is applied to all windows. Is this by design? With Tiger, you could specify the view for "this folder only" or "all folders"

Joe - I've been heavily researching this issue. I've received some helpful advice from baltow, but here is how I fixed my problem. While in Best Buy over the weekend, I played on one of their Macs running Leopard 10.5.8 to see if the problem started before Snow Leopard. It did, wasn't just me. Then I found this site:
    http://www.macintouch.com/leopard/faq.html#finder
It said: *Why don't my window view settings stick?* The Leopard Finder's approach to consistency is to use the last view you selected in any Finder window for all new Finder windows. You can override this on a per-folder basis; go to the menu View > Show View Options (or press Command-J). This opens a view options Inspector (a mini-window much like a traditional Palette window); at the top of this window, check the "Always open in" box to force the folder always to show the current view.
This is what was throwing me off - I thought that Always open in box was a global setting, not on an individual folder basis. With Tiger, you had two options: This window only, All windows.
Now I will play with the Arrange By setting and see if that works as well.

  • AppleScript change to Finder View not persisting

I have seen all the threads on Finder View preferences not sticking but I have a new variation. If I change the appearance of a Finder window in the Finder (using my mouse) everything works and the changes stick. If I use Applescript to change the appearance (in this case close the dislosure triangles of the nested folders):
    tell application "Finder" to activate
tell application "System Events" to tell process "Finder"
    keystroke "a" using {command down}
    keystroke (ASCII character 28) using {command down, option down}
    end tell
Then the appearance changes as wanted in the open window, but when I close and re-open the window the appearance change is lost and the nested folders are still open.
If I use AppleScript to change the sort column:
    set properties of the list view options of myFolder to {sort column:name column}
then this change does stick if I close and reopen the window!
Before you ask -- the .DS_Store file is owned by me with permission 666. Deleting this file makes no difference. Any assistance, please?

Does the method here Making Finder Window Views Persistent,
authored by Scott Radloff, work for you?
No, unfortunately I had tried all those fixes. Also, I have no problems if I directly manipulate the folders in the Finder. It is only when I try to control the Finder with AppleScript that I run into problems. Thanks for the thought.

Some Windows 7 clients habe reported that the view changes in the middle of sessions to Windows 7 clients with OneDrive.
For example they have been able to see image pictures as normal in the beginning of sessions and then suddenly only image names !

    Hi  yourDragonXi,
Is it a desktop One drive or a web browser Onedrive content? According to your description, the should be a Sync process when you open the images, besides a screenshot will be helpful to find the explanation.

  • Lock Finder view as list in every Window/File picker

I have my Finder in list view: always and everywhere (except for the occasional pictures folder).
Within Yosemite I encounter a lot of differences. Sometimes a folder opens in icon view. When the file picker windows appear (in Pages for example) it is icons or columns. It changes randomly.
Is there a way to lock every view of files to "list view".
I tried in Finder, View Options, set as Default. That doesn't work.

Thx for that im gonna try it....but is there a way to do it without using toolbar or cmd-c...? i mean using only the mouse?why does it have to highlight the file even though i click a bit next to it....?using icon view i can right click next to the folder and i wont have a problem but with list view that i prefer using it will highlight the whole row.....and i dont find free space to right click cause i got many files

  • Viewing PDF in OSX vs Windows

    Hey...
I've looked through the discussions, I've searched Google and Adobe...but am finding no answers.
I create newsletters in Pages...I export as PDF. It looks great and all formatting consistent when I open via Preview.
But when I use Adobe Reader to view it (in OSX or Windows)...it loses some formatting. ie..text turns white, arrows are white (when should be black).
I've tried not to overlap anything...text boxes with arrows or pics with other things...(as much as I hate everything floating alone).
    Any thoughts would be great!
    Thanks,

Are you using attributes like shadows ?
We explained here many times that Pages uses several system's features to display several things.
The result is that these things aren't passed to the other world.

  • How to view changes to expense reports

I am trying to find a way of viewing changes to an Expense Report.
In PR05 there is a history but it does not provide details about the change. I have also looked at PRTE and cluster AEND but again this does not provide the details that our business users require.
Does anyone know if there is any other way of viewing the detail of changes to an Expense Report?
On a related issue we have found that in PR05 the approver name is showing as the workflow user rather than the user ID of the person who approved the trip in the Portal. Can this be changed to the actual approver ?
Thanks for any help with this
    Stephanie

    Hi,
I think T-code PRTE provides only screen level changes (i.e who , when creates, save or updates by whome)
For detail level changes in expense reports you need to activate Define History and Archiving of Forms
    V_T702N_R26_R27
Please note that this is ONLY available with EHP5 BC 605 FIN_TRAVEL_3
    Following is help available
    _________________________________________________________________________Use
In this step, you can activate the following functions:
    History
If you activate logging of history, the system logs the changes to travel requests and expense reports. Users can display the history in the following user interfaces:
Personal object worklists (POWL) for travelers, assistents, and approving managers on the Web Dynpro ABAP-based user interface of Travel Management
Transactions of the travel expense report in SAP GUI; for example, in the Travel Expense Manager (transaction PR05) or in the Travel Calendar (transaction PR02)
If you do not activate logging of history, the system automatically logs the changes made to expense reports (as in earlier releases). Users can display the change history only in the transactions of the travel expense report in SAP GUI.
Storage of Travel and Expense Forms in the Archive
If you have activated logging of history, you also can define that the travel request forms and expense report forms are to be automatically archived when certain events occur. You can determine which of the following events triggers the archiving of a form:
When processing of a changed travel request or expense report is handed over from the user who makes the change to another user
When the status of the travel request or expense report changes
When a user saves the travel request or expense report
You can archive the Adobe PDF forms or HTML forms for travel requests and expense reports, but not the forms for travel plans. If you use an ABAP list form, the system first converts this form to an HTML form and then archives the HTML form.
In the following activities you define which kinds of forms the system uses:
For travel requests, see Define Enterprise-Wide Control Parameters and attribute HTMLFORM_R_P.
For expense reports, see Travel Expenses Control (Expert View), Other Settlement, field 24.
    Requirements
The following prerequisites must be met:
You have activated the updating of statistical data when trips are saved; see Define Structure of Trip Statistics.
You have made the basic settings for ArchiveLink; see Basic Customizing for ArchiveLink.
    Note:
If you want to archive Adobe PDF forms, the document type PDF under Edit Document Classes must contain an entry with MIME type application/pdf.
If you want to archive HTML forms, the document type HTML under Edit Document Classes must contain an entry with MIME type text/html.
    Standard settings
By default, history logging is not activated.

  • Folder view changes after saving file

After a while, whenever I choose a starting folder in a save dialog, where the folder view is Columns, the folder view changes to that view in Finder as well, but I want it to stay in List view, while brows in the save dialog in Columns view.
How can I make sure, that whichever folder I choose from the save dialog, it's view never changed from List to Columns view, (regardless wether I choose Column view, or it opened already in that view) without changing each and every folder preference individually?

Every time you resave a JPEG, information is lost. How much depends upon the degree of compression - more compression, more loss, smaller file.
A one off save is probably insignifincant. The fact that the file size changes is unsurprising. PSE probably does its compression a bit differently from the camera.

  • PSE9 and Folder View changes

I recently upgraded from PSE7 and it appears that in this version you can see only the folder you click on and sometimes not even that.
Is there anyway to see all the selected photos grouped by folder as I could do in all earlier versions?
Even worse, I had a small database with all photos in a single folder. When I switch to folder view (with all images showing in  thumbnail view) then all photos disappear!!! Even though the icon in the finder view indicates that there are photos in the folder.
My databases have had thumbnails refreshed, no images need to be reconnected, and have been optimized and repaired.
In case it matters: Windows 7 64 bit with all updates applies to PSE9.

The 30 day free trial is an excellent idea. The problem for upgrading users is the difficulty of keeping things viable for the older version while actively using the new one.
Elements data is extraordinarily difficult to fix when anything gets messed up in the connection area. Trying to reconnect photos once PSE (every version) loses its links is unbelievable. The program is extremely stupid. I had an entire database that somehow had the "C" replaced by "F". The remaining parts of the file names were unchanged. It took me the better part of two days to fix. Any decent programmer (I am a semi-retired programmer with about 45 years experience) would have the sense to first assume that the device was wrong since that happens so easily.
I figure my problem was caused by my repair of a crashed disk where I had to restore from backups. The "F" disk was the source of the backup and data was put on C: yet somehow all links were lost.
Don't ever try to use DVD's as anything more than a backup either. Newer versions cannot always read the DVD's so recovery that is even worse.
I am far off thread, but all relates to using a free trial. I would expect links to be messed up in the process.
Also, the old folder view made fixes much easier - I dread trying to change locations with this buggy folder view.
Ah well, thanks for the comments.

  • Finder automatically changing folder names...

Finder is automatically changing folder names... say I have two folders side by side titled:
    Financial
    Miscellaneous
Sometimes, and for no apparent reason, the "financial" folder will, when I click on it, change to "miscellaneous" and will show the exact same files no matter which one of the two I click on. I know for a fact that each folder holds two entirely different sets of documents...
What is going on here? How do I stop it from doing this?

We are experiencing this issue on both ppc and intel machines and it appears to be isolated to the Finder as the terminal reports properly. The commonality is network shares, it does not seem to matter if they are nfs automounted from solaris, smb mounted from a linux box, etc etc, nor does it matter if an admin user manually mounts these shares, the issue persists. I, like a previous poster on this subject was skeptical given the symptoms but kept an open mind and then witnessed this anomaly for myself. We can now re-create it at will. I have narrowed it down to the 10.4.9 update and it continues through 10.4.10, in my testing, the issue does not exist in 10.4.8. The Finder version changes from 10.4.6 in OSX version 10.4.8 to Finder version 10.4.7 in OSX version 10.4.9, the Finder versions do not coincide with OS versions. Swapping in the older Finder did not solve the issue so there are other culprits involved. It may not even be the Finder at issue, the issue may reside in the way OSX mounts shares and simply manifests in the Finder. Odd behavior to say the least, one good thing is that while the data appears to have gone away, it's actually safe and sound and a reboot/logout-login resolves the issue. Deleting .DS_Store, force re-launching the Finder does not seem to help nor does deleting caches, preferences, etc, the only solution I have found is to revert to 10.4.8.

  • Mountain Lion forgets my finder view preferences after a restart

    Hi all,
I've set the finder view preferences in my applications folder to 36 size by 32 spacing. However, after a restart, the icon sizes are back to 64 and mashed together without any spacing. It seems to be related to changing the icon sizes since my other folders (ex: Documents set to column view remains unchanged). Could this be a permissions issue? I had to boot into single user mode to resolve an issue with boot camp so I'm wondering if a similar fix is available for this.
    Thanks

    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
    rm -i /Applications/.DS_Store
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
You should be prompted to confirm that you want to delete a file named ".DS_Store". If that's what happens, press the Y key and then the return key.
Relaunch the Finder or log out and log back in. Test.

  • View changes made to PSA

    Hello,
Just wondering if there is a way to view changes that were made to a PSA. We sometimes have records with bad dates come into our BW system, causing the load to fail. We fix these loads by correcting the records in the PSA and then doing a manual update.  Just curious if there is a way to go back after the manual update to see which records were changed.
    Thanks
    Charla

    Charla,
       Good Question!
I can't tell you technical front( If it has any tables creating that).
I can tell you one place where you can. Go to Monitor(RSMO) for that request. check in the details tab page. you could see record number  where the error occured.
All the best. Please update the thread if you find any technical details.

  • Organizer Media view changes

When I am viewing images in the Media view I can't find a way to go from a vertical filmstrip view to the normal media view which places all images in the middle view area.
    What am I missing?
    Mary Lou

That wasn't the probem.  Evidently, the media view changes depending on what I have selected.  If I sort for an import batch, I get a listing of the batches.  It seems like when I am working with tags, the interface changes to show me an area at the top of the screen with more information on tags.
I have searched AdobeTV and found some organizer videos which are generally helpful but don't directly explain the different views of media.
I'll keep searching for some more detailed explanation.
