Finder & WebDav folders

When I connect to a WebDav folder using Finder it is painfully slow. Is this normal? And, if so, would anyone know of a real-time sync program that works between a Mac and WebDav folders?

I had the same problem a while back and it had to do with the .DS_Store file. Some time back in the 10.3 server days Apple hacked the http.conf file to stop the uploading of this invisible file because it was considered to be a security risk. The reason you can upload files is that even if you do a "Select All" command the finder will not grab the .DS_Store file, but because every folder on OS X contains the .DS_Store file when you grab a folder you get the disallowed file with it and Apache will refuse the upload. If you do not have nested folders in your upload you can quickly use the command line to delete the .DS_Store before you upload. If what you are uploading has many nested folders the you may need to get a utility that will strip all .DS_Store files from your files. There are a number of them on the net. As a last resort you can hack your http.conf file and remove the "fix" Apple put in.
Hope this helps you out.

  • Apple Finder webdav client launch many GET requests when I explore a folder

    Hi,
I write a WebDAV server in Python.
I found one issue with Apple Finder WebDAV client and I've noticed same
    issue with apache mod_dav server.
Issue : when Finder explore a folder, Finder download the totaly of all files !
I don't know who do all this GET requests ? Spotlight ?
This is very boring because if I've some big file in a folder, all this data
    are transfered on my bandwidth.
Have you see the same issue ? Who does this request ? How can I disable this
    transfert ?
    Thanks for your help,
    Stephane

My images will not show in the Finder Pictures folders, but just display as jpeg thumbnails.  I have to open each one to see what photo it is.  This has just recently started to happen.

I made sure the 'Show Icon Preview' box was checked.  This is about all I can do, really, Frank, as i don't know enough about the workings of these machines to start fiddling about.
Strangely the images show as previews in some folders, yet not in others, even though they come from the same sources (my camera and my phone).

  • Keep having to find missing folders for network image files, although library is on local drive

I use Lightroom to store my image files on a networked drive.  Whenever I open up Lightroom and want to access the files, it keeps losing the path to the drive and folders.  I have to keep using find missing folders on all the subdirectories to see the files.  Is there something I can do to prevent this from happening each time?

What is this BSD Name: disk0s1 for that occupy 209.7MB?
That is your EFI partition and shouldn't be touched.
I'm missing around 349GB of disc, after I sum up all my folders.. freeing most huge files.
    First, empty your trash.
Open Finder, Click the Apple Logo > About This Mac > More Info.. > Storage

My "Library" module suddenly disapeared and I can not access my images. How do I find my folders if there is no "library" button?

    You've merely inadvertently hidden it.
Hiding/unhiding panels and modules is a little known feature of Lightroom which seems to put the fear of God into unsuspecting newbies who are not aware of the feature.
Right-click (CTRL Click on Mac) on the Module names and restore the check mark to Library.

Open the Script Editor or AppleScript Editor in one of the subfolders of Applications and run the following:
    tell application "Finder" to quit
if (do shell script "defaults read com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles") is "1" then
do shell script "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 0"
    else
do shell script "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 1"

  • Finder WebDAV still unreliable to the point of impossible: MobileMe misery

The biggest let down in 10.6, including 10.6.2, from my perspective is WebDAV in the Finder. It is incredibly BUGGY. This was not the case previously, despite a very long history of WebDAV flakiness in general.
Typical experience: I am on my MobileMe iDisk. I am trying to examine the files and folders inside my Public folder. I attempt to open a folder to see what I have there. What do I find?
    1) The Finder starts going into Sit & Spin mode on a regular basis while I am working in my iDisk.
    2) Eventually the Finder will FLAKE OUT and no longer see what is on my iDisk. It starts telling me that folders full of files have '0 items'. The result is that I can no longer, after that point, navigate properly in my iDisk. It's impossible.
    The solution? I have to EJECT my iDisk and start all over again! I N F U R I A T I N G and entirely unacceptable.
I thought the WebDAV bug reportedly fixed in 10.6.2 was the one. But it was NOT.
I'm reporting this nasty bug here in the discussions so other people recognize they are not alone. But I am calling Apple directly to day to get them to finally solve this mess. Here they are selling the MobileMe service with yearly contracts, I'm up for renewal, and I can't use my iDisk reliably?! Bad show Apple.

The Finder starts going into Sit & Spin mode on a regular basis
Lots of users are seeing this, in various configurations.
Be aware that laptops are typically resource constrained - processing video as an example can tax the hardware and software. If you have large demands you might want to consider upgrading the physical RAM to max, along with a HD that has a faster spindle speed and larger buffer - you might even consider moving to a desktop system.
By all means be sure any 3rd party apps AND plug-ins are Snow Leopard compatible.
If issues continue, you may consider walking that portable in to the nearest Apple store and asking for opinions from the staff.
    Good luck in any case.

  • Finding Public Folders in Mail App through Exchange

I am using Outlook on the Windows side and all my Public Folders are there.  Where can I find them in the Mail App in OSX Lion?  I noticed that there are two choices to make a new account in the app.  One is Exchange, and the other is Exchange IMAP.  I chose the Exchange, and I'm guessing that has something to do with it.  Its just that if I chose IMAP, all my junk filtering goes away that I set up in Outlook.

Its not there. I have not found a way ever to get public folders in Mail App. I wish there was, but i cannot find any solution.
I have been looking for about a year on this, but no luck

  • Is there a way to have Finder list folders and documents in alphabetical order?

Finder keeps changing the order of folders and documents.  Is there a way to have everythning remain in alphabetical order?  The way it works now makes it difficult to find a specific folder or doc from a long list.

In the Finder click the list icon and then sort by name. Is this what you mean?

  • Can't see some WebDAV folders

    Hi All,
We have a file server and Sharepoint intranet in our office. On Windows XP, I can connect to the web share and see and browse all the folders. On Mac OS X, I able able to connect to the server just fine (using http://server) and login into the WebDAV dialog box. However, it seems I can only see system folders from the web server like _images, _private, etc and NOT actual shared folders (or document libraries in Sharepoint). They just seem to be hidden - i know they are there because I can see them in XP.
Is this is a problem with WebDAV compatibility in OS X or am I missing something?

    Hello
We are customers of Oracle since Oracle 7. We have used all the Oracle databases from Oracle 7 to Oracle 11, and we also used Oracle Collaboration Suite. We have been always very happy with the stability of all the products we used.
But we can’t say the same with Beehive. We had to open more Metalink SRs in the last two months than in the previous five years. For us, the current release looks like a beta software more than like a production release. But this is only an opinion, based on our painful experience. Maybe all the others customers had better luck than us, and didn’t hit the bugs we experienced.
I can’t participate in a debate about if Beehive architecture is better or worse than Collaboration Suite architecture, because I really don’t have any idea about it. I just gave my opinion about our experience, that could coincide with other customers experience or not.
From our point of view, knowing OCS and Beehive, what I can say in favour of Beehive versus OCS is his better integration (Blackberry, Thunderbird, etc.). But I still think that it offers us much less functionality than OCS, as per today. Lets see the next releases, with the so expected workspaces management tool, including versioning, check in/out, etc. :)
    Best regards,
    Miguel

  • Finder Issue - Folders in reverse descending order

When Finder is open, and I select the Documents tab, I see, on the right, my folders and can open those folders to see the files within. Here, the files are alphabetically arranged from A through Z, in descending order (A at the top, and Z at the bottom).
However, when I double-click a folder to open it, the order of files is reversed and the alphabetizing becomes inverse - with A at the bottom and Z at the top.
How do I change this ordering to reflect a descending order?
    Thank you,
    Jay

I also have this problem, and the work around works for me, but...
This has got to be a bug, right?  There is nothing, anywhere that I can see, that controls whether it is alpha ascending or alpha descending.  The "fix", such as it is, is to ignore the Arrange By menu and use the column headers to select the sort order.
In fact, to bulletproof it (because I will forget eventually) the best solution would be to remove the "arrange" menu altogether because it does not do anything that sorting by column headers does not do.  In fact, it does less.  In even more fact, it does worse than less.
Apple is keenly persuing minimalism.  So why does the arrange menu exist?  And if it does exist, why did no-one test that it works rationally?
The corollary of all this is that the Arrange By menu does the same thing as clicking the menu headers, but when you use it, it disables them.
I have been banging my head on my desk since I bought my new machine with Mt Lion on it about the wretched headers not setting the sort order and it is because some - numbskull is not the _only_ word that comes to mind - has decided one selection mechanism for the sort function should disable the other. ¿Eh?

  • Unable to find iphoto folders.

I have dowloaded a online photobook from www.photobookclub.com.au. When it prompts me to add photos it takes me to Finder, but i cannot locate my folders either in iphoto or Pictures, it only shows me a few individual photos which i have saved either from emails or scanned in but they are grey & i cannot highlight them. All my folders are intact in iphoto, very frustrating what am i doing wrong.

Assuming this book supports standard Open... dialogues the first of these is what you want:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Finding invisible folders

A few days ago my iMac (late 2013 model) started acting wonky. I had figured out that it was because I had done a migration from my previous iMac and it had brought along some corrupted files that were still causing me trouble. I decided to do a clean install. I couldn't use Time Machine's backup since I was getting errors every time I used it. I used a program called SuperDuper to clone my HD to and external blank drive and it worked pretty well. When I tested it, everything seemed to be there. I was able to boot from that external.
After I did my clean install, I reloaded fonts and applications from my disks and the app store where I could, and them from the clone. To my horror, I discovered that my mail was nowhere to be found. Luckily I had an mbox backup that ended mid April, so I rescued that, but I was missing all emails between April and October.
A call to my internet provider managed to get me an additional two weeks of email at the end of September. Sadly, that was it. I used Spotlight and Apple's Finder (File-->Find) to search thru the Users folder. No Library folders existed under any user except Shared, and that only contained 4 items from 2008 (lol).
Then yesterday, while using Dreamweaver, I found myself in the clone's user directory and the was a Library folder! It wasn't visible and both Finder and Spotlight can't see it or anything in it, but Dreamweaver can. And I see mail files in there.
So the question is... how do I get them out??
    Thanks!

Open the enclosing folder, choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, provide Library as the path, and drag the files out.

  • Repairing database does not find missing folders stored in Library

Has anyone successfully found a way to manipulate the iPhoto database to restore images that are missing from the iPhoto app but still stored in the iPhoto Library package? The corruption to some folders from 2007 must have happened a while ago. My backups only go back about a month so I've not been able to simply restore from a working version.
The issue is that a number of these photos have been modified. I don't want to end up restoring multiple versions of the photos. I was happy with how it was working before the corruption and would like to simply get back to where I was before.
Of course I've tried using the built in repair, including attempting to 'find orphaned files', with no success.
Thanks in advance for any insight.

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
Just about the only option, I'm afraid.
    Regards
    TD
