Finder window is not proportioned correctly

We just updated to Adobe Acrobat DC and it looks like the Finder window is not proportioned correctly.   There is the large grey space that cannot be reduced. If the window is scaled down then you lose the files on the top while the gray space remains the same. We have two computers running Mac 10.10.3 that are doing the same thing. Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?
What appears when you go to Open...
Shrinking window does this......

Hi ,
Did you try repairing Acrobat DC ?
If not ,please try the same and see if that helps sorting this issue .
Or you could also try uninstalling the software and re installing it once and check if that helps in any way .
And by shrinking do you mean to adjust the screen resolution or is that something else you are trying to perform ?
Please try both the methods and see if that fixes the issue.

After waiting 27 minutes while the new iTunes supposedly downloaded onto my computer, the Finder window did not appear, and the iTunes.mpkg icon didn't appear on my desktop (where downloads usually go).  I also looked for the new iTunes by clicking on my Hard Drive icon but didn't see it there either.  I only see the icon for the old iTunes.  What do I do?

The exclamation mark means that the app has lost the link to the actual file.
First step: try and make sure the iPhoto Library is working correctly:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • Icon view in Finder windows do not autowrap

    I am using 10.5.1 on a 17" MBP 2.16 ghz.
Since installing Leopard, Icon view in Finder windows do not autowrap and Finder windows do not always remember their display preferences.
The Trash auto-wraps (the icons spread to take up the entire window if it is enlarged) But Opening a Folder in my default list view and switching to Icon view and then enarging the window only shows icons in the original window width. EG, If it were 3 colums of icons, it stays 3 columns of icons unless I use Clean Up TWICE and then I get 10 columns of icons which will wrap.
Is this a Leopard BUG or a local problem. Any suggestions on fixing it?
    TIA,
    Bill

Yeh - though I use cmd-J which I have used since it appeared, 10.1?
But I just solved my problem. In my use as defaults selection, I had Snap to Grid selected in the arrange by pop-up rather than by Name.
Selecting Name and clicking on Use as Defaults makes things work as expected.
Thanks for making me look closely!
    Cheers,
    Bill

  • Main Viewer Window does not display correctly

Ever since I upgraded to Aperture 3.3 through 3.4.1, the main viewer window does not display correctly.  Everything is justified to the right of the screen.  When viewing images, the are not in teh center, they are over to the right.  I can't even see the import controls when trying to import... actually I can't even press the import button or add metada.  I am really in a bad position here.  Need help with this... anyone out there have a solution please?  my clients are waiting for their photos.  Yikes!
    Right justified?

        lisan1234,
I am sorry to hear about the screen issues. To clarify, do you only notice the screen proportion difference when in a certain application? By to long or wide are you stating that parts of the screen images are cut off? Please provide details

  • Finder window will not open

Finder window will not open from the dock unless I right click and click "New Finder Window".  Currently running Yosemite 10.10.3 (14D87p) public beta (iMac - 27" late 2013).
    Tried the following fixes:
    1.  Deleted finder.plist and restart.
    2.  Force quit Finder - when I do this, I get the "Finder not responding" and have to restart computer and right click for "New Finder Window".
    3.  Perform "disk permission repair".

Well I'm glad that I"m not the only one with the issue. I'm also running Yosemite 10.10.3. About 2 days ago Finder stopped responding. I have reported it via "Feedback Assistant".
I did create a new profile and it does open with a new profile. Which is kinda strange. I have also done items 1-3 listed in the original post.
I will keep an eye on this post to see if anyone solves the issue at hand.

  • Finder/Window-Content not responding to changes and doesn't refresh

    Hi,
i have a very strange Problem with the Finder since i upgraded to 10.6.4. The Finder doesn't react to changes from certain Applications.
I noticed the effect in the Folder 'Downloads', f.e. if i try to download a file. Usually two files appear, the intended file with 0 kB and another temporary file. After the download is complete the temporary file will be deleted and only one file remains.
Usually the whole process is visible and shown in the finder window. After the update it isn't which means that if i download a file, the Window content does not reflect the changes and the new files are not shown, even after the download is complete. To see the new files i have to trigger a change, either by creating a new folder or by changing the location (moving up a level).
Interesting enough this only happens with certain Applications like Firefox or 'the Unarchiever' (a compression tool). If i download a file with Safari the temporary files and the downloaded files are shown in the window content without manually triggering a change. If i use 'keka' (another compression tool) the changes are also immediatly shown.
In order to narrow down possible errors i have taken different approaches:
    a) i intently scanned and watched the console and read all error reports. There are no errors shown (with firefox or the unarchiever).
    b) I created a new user profile and the effects are the same.
    c) i ran 'disk utilities' and scanned the Access priviliges. Apart from the common problem within /system/java/... there are no problems
    d) i ran 'onxy' to clean the user and system cache. I rebuild the LaunchService Database.
    I didn't fix my Problem.
That leads me to conclude that the problem is located in some system-function which is correctly triggered by some applications and apparently not by others.
    My Questions:
    1. Does anyone else has this problem and possibly a fix?
    2. Does anyone know how the finder is triggered by applications in order to refresh a window?
    tia,
    jc

    Hi Jeanclaude,
You've described the problem well and took some excellent troubleshooting steps
    b) When you created the new profile, were you still engaging your third party apps, or are they installed in log-in items?
    1. It would be interesting to try a Safe Mode startup (It will take more time to startup in Safe Mode because it runs a directory check.)
2 If step 1 doesn't turn up anything, re-install from your 10.6.x install disk (10.6 has the ability to "install in place" without touching anything other than system specific files.) Just pop in the disk, double-click and follow the prompts. Remember to uncheck language localizations if you don't use them & Printers except the one/ones you use.
Let us know your results after these 2 steps.

  • Finder window icons not showing

In the main part of my finder window when I am in column view, the icons for each individual file are not showing. The file name is there as is the extension (if I go into preferences and enable it). I am concerned as-although in itself it is merely an aesthetic thing-I fear it could be the symptom of something more serious. Thus far I have repaired disk permissions but that is about the extent of repair jobs that I can do.
Thanks in advance if you can help.

This could possibly be related to changing the "view options" - mine seem to have corrected itself when I right clicked > show view options and then changed some minor settings - think I changed it to last view and then clicked "Use as defaults" - seemed to work. But this wasn't due to changing it to list view as the icons were also missing as soon as I changed to the different view - just seemed to work when I clicked "Use as defaults" and then they appeared when I open and closed the finder. Hope it works anyway.

  • Finder Window Does not retain custom size and/or view

I recently installed OS X Snow Leopard and ever sine I have had problems with the behaviour of my finder windows in that they simply will not retain my custom view settings.
+For example, I set the default view to coverflow with a 50/50 ratio of coverflow (on top) and file lists (on the bottom). But as soon as I click to another location, close and then reopen any finder window, at any time, the result is always the same - the window opens in coverflow with the coverflow graphics taking up around 90% of the window space and the file lists underneath squeezed down to minimum size. Even if I set all windows to open in icon view or list view, the same thing happens.+
*I have tried all of the following:*
Opening a finder window, resizing, and then closing it straight away
Deleting the both the finder and the side bar plist files, emptying the trash and then restarting finder
    Restarting finder on its own
*Is anyone having the same problem and if so have they found a solution?*

This problem affects a few of my Finder windows, including the Application folder window. I recently did a clean reinstall of SL (which stands for Stupid Lunatic, because that's what I was for upgrading), and the problem occurred a few days later. This cannot be due to using Migration Assistant (and moving "bad" folders), because the installation process creates the Applications folder and populates it with Apples apps. Migration Assistant just adds your apps to the existing folder.
This problem, or minor variations of it, has occurred with all seven major versions of OS X. Finder window settings were rock solid way back in OS 7 days and remained so through OS 9. I know that Steve Jobs hates the Desktop/Finder approach, but if it's going to be in OS X, then it should work correctly. I actually long for the days when rebuilding the desktop fixed most of the icon and window problems.
We need a utility that can erase the custom settings for our folders and let us start with a clean settings file.

  • Blurry/pixelated icons at random in Finder windows 02 (Not Solving Yet)

Since the problem in the old topic (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2132399&start=0&tstart=0), I have started new one.
    the Problem is:
"I'm seeing a lot of blurry icons in the Finder, though, seemingly at random. I'll open a window and about half the icons will be essentially large versions of the 16x16 icon, rather than sharp icons at the appropriate size. Changing the icon size via the new slider just enlarges the blurry icon, it doesn't increase the resolution." (Eric Westby)
This is really the most disappointing non response issue I have ever seen by Apple. I hope from Apple to address this issue.
    Thanks.

Problem. I am experiencing problems with suddenly blurred custom Finder icons as well.
Trigger. So far as I can tell, this happened when Software Update ran on my computer this afternoon. If I recall correctly, it updated to the latest XCode and iTunes versions pushed out this week. When it was finished, it gave me the message, "Blah blah blah your installation has finished" with an Okay button. The Finder window with my film library was open and in full view with nice, not-blurry icons. I clicked Okay to dismiss Software Update and the instant I did that it quit the Finder, must have been to rebuild something that was edited during the installation. All the open windows went away, the Finder restarted and its windows reopened. Wouldn't you know it, every single icon I had edited in the last day or three, +but none of the others+, was a pixellated blob.
Details. This is a single folder with rips of my DVD collection made using Handbrake, one folder per film, for a total of about 400 folders.
For each folder, I locate an image of the theater poster using Google's image search and create an icon using that image. The process I use is to open the image in Preview, ensure it is 800 px tall or less, then Select All > Copy to the Clipboard. Then I go to the Finder and do a Get Info > Tab > Paste for the folder.
    Screenshot
My screenshot shows the sort of blurry pixellation I am getting, as seen on the icon for "Grand Central Murder (1942)" and "Graduate, The (1967) Nichols". All the rest look sharp and nice, they way they usually all do.
Guesses. The only thing I can think of is that as you paste custom icons, the Finder is just dropping that information in a cache somewhere. It will write it out properly if it gets the time, but if the system is always telling it "not now, I'm busy" it will put it off as a low priority task. If something else then tells the Finder to restart, all those changes are lost because the cache gets hosed down when the Finder reboots. It's only a guess, but it's the best I've got.

  • HT1199 I updated Itunes on my PC and now when i try to open Itunes i get a error message saying "application failed to start because MSVCR80 was not found" then whenI close that pop up I get a error message saying "windows was not installed correctly Erro

I updated my itunes the other day and now it won't open I get error message saying "application failed to start because MSVCR80 was not found"  When I close that window I get message stating Itunes was not installed correctly Error 7 Windows error 126.  My PC is a Acer and I'm running Windows Visa.  I tried to uninstall Itunes and reinstall it and get same message.  Can anyone help.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • Finder window doest not start

On my wifes mac mini, we can no longer get finder to load, the system boots fine, and we can run a few applications, iTunes and safari. When i try to open finder to install new apps like firefox and clamXav, the finder window never opens. I have tried going to single user mode and fixking disk, i have even booted to the 10.4 dvd and ran repair disk/permissions. Still can not get finder to open nor will any of the desktop folders we have created so that i can access that way.
This happens even if i create a new account and try to access anything. As a note, i was able to install firefox, but it displays strange charecters in the url bar, and in the welcome screen.
    Mac Mini(PPC)   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/
com.apple.finder.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Re-launch Finder by restarting and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plist to where you got it  from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

  • Finder window does not open when dock icon is clicked

    Hi would like some help
When I click the finder icon in the dock nothing happens, the only way I can get finder open is to go file>new finder window
just started doing this 1 day ago ?
    thanks

Have you got an instance of finder open in another desktop? If you right click on the finder icon you can show all windows, then close any that are open. Failing that relaunch finder, if you click on the Apple in the top menu bar, go to force quit, and select finder, then relaunch it to see if it solves your problem.
I once had this problem when I had left a finder window open in a connected tv screen, disconnected the tv and had the same problem of not being able to open finder normally.
