I erased my iPod nano with disk utility and tried to restore but I get a 1430 error and it never restores.

Ok so I tried to connect my iPod nano to my computer, but when I opened iTunes, the iPod automatically ejected. I thought that restoring it would fix that, but since I couldn't restore it in iTunes because it kept ejecting itself, I decided to erase it using disk utility. I read on here that it's possible to do that. So then my iPod said to restore in iTunes after I erased it, so I did, but it failed with an 1430 error. How do I fix it? Is my iPod destroyed for good?

Take a look at this support document regarding that error. iPod: Can't restore or update in iTunes with error 1415, 1417, 1418, 1428, 1429, 1430, 1436, or 1439 - Apple Support

You could try repairing permissions with disk utility, I don't think you will have the option to repair the drive but you could verify it.
This may help you delete the files that DU made but did not remove when erasing the free space.

When you get your SL disk it will not have the iLife applications, that would have been on the second install disk that should have been with the computer. I forget which version of iLife you will need for SL but I think it is this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Apple-iLife-Single-User-Mac/dp/B003XKRZES/ref=sr_1_1?ie= UTF8&qid=1409607702&sr=8-1&keywords=apple+ilife+11
A search of the forums will confirm or deny this.
As to whether a clean install will cure your problem, i.e. partition the HDD and install I would expect it to be yes, but there are no guarantees it is an old machine.

I have ipod nano with 7 generation and I would buy a Polar Wearlink + Transmitter Nike+ Plus to view heart beats . Is this product compatible with nano?

I have the same issue! I purchased a nano 6th, polar hrm so I could run and receive spoken feedback when my heart rate was outside my preset zone.  My suunto t3 used to beep when outside the preset zones.  Automatic, periodic beeps or spoken feedback is the most important information to receive during exercise. I hope apple can update the software to add this simple yet critical feature.

  • Cant restore my macbook with Disk utility and my .dmg image

My macbook would not boot anymore. Stuck on gray screen with apple logo, spinning wheel and a loading bar for a while after shutting off.
I was able to get to Disk Utility in the recovery mode and, after a while, was able to make an image of my filesin an attempt to back them up.
The .dmg was put on an external and i checked it on my imac, i could open the .dmg file and browse all my files from my macbook, so those are safe!
After that i tried to wipe the SSD of my macbook and put the image back but that didn't work, also some resource is busy errors.
After trying this a few times without succes i figured i'd try to do a clean install. This worked.
My macbook air is working again but if Iuse Disk Utility in the recovery now and try and restore my image (.dmg file) it gives me Restore Failure; An error (-16) occured (resource busy) as well. I also tried to copy the dmg onto my macbook and run disc utility when booted into OSX. I open up the back up .dmg with Disk utility, then i go to my macbooks partition (Macontiosh HD) and use that as a destination and drag the mounted image as the source as shown on the image below. Am I doing something wrong here?
Doing this i get an error as well: (-119,930,878) Resource busy as you can see.
What can i do to get my image back on my macbook? Any 3rd party software?
I considered just transferring the files after opening the .dmg file but this works only for documents and not for programs and settings of the default apps.
I've looked all over the Internet and it seems more people have had this error but then with making the image, they also suggest unmounting the destination disk before trying to restore but my destination is Macintosh HD, i cant really unmount that can i?
    Thanks in advance!

To make a clone, in the future you need to use a program like superduper or carbon copy cloner.
Either program makes an identical clone while preserving certain system files and marking/indicating to OS X that the clone is bootable.
Using Disk Utility to make a DMG was a good idea, but this will not yield a bootable image.
If Disk Utility could do a 1:1 copy of everything, then people would be using it to rip/duplicate DVDs.
But Disk Utility does not (it leaves out certain invisible/system files), hence it cannot duplicate/clone a hard drive or DVD.

  • HT4235 Itunes only sees ipod nano in disk mode and still won't sync it

I have to place my ipod nano in disk mode for itunes (or Windows for that matter) to find it. In disk mode Windows and Itunes see the ipod and it passes all the diagnostic tests save for the sync test where it can no longer see the ipod and apparently a file is also not found. I'm ready to just reset it, but am unable to make that happen.
This problem began when I downloaded some songs from Amazon and fumbled the job purchasing and downloading some of them twice. Not very smart, but it was late. Anyway, I also downloaded their Cloud player and had it pass the songs to itunes. It was in itunes that I saw the duplicate copies of the songs. Itunes and the cloud player proceeded to butt heads, I deleted the the extra song copies and also uninstalled the Amazon cloud player. Then itunes went into the state I've described above.
    I'd appreciate any help.

  • Problem with Disk Utility and with ITunes and with Classic

Greetings. I have had problems with ITunes recently; when I try to open it, it gives me the error message: "The ITunes Music Library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."
When I looked at the ITunes discussion section, people had two ideas for other people who had the same problem:
    (1) Make sure that the library of music files is write-enabled (which it is) and not locked (it isn't) and
    (2) Go to Disk Utility and repair the disk.
Since (1) is not a problem, I am trying (2). However, when I open Disk Utility, it just stays on the window, stating "Gathering disk information..." and proceeds no further.
Perhaps related to these problems, when I try to start up Classic, the window opens, but it gets stuck at the very beginning (stating "Classic starting up using System Folder ...") and proceeds no further.
Can anyone help me with these multiple problems? Thanks in advance.

The problems you report are different than those relating to the iTunes receipts/DU conflict. Trashing those receipts as suggested is necessary to get DU to repair permissions, but, as I understand it, you couldn't get DU to recognise your drives. And I've seen no posts relating to iTunes 6 and Classic.
I've had the problem you describe before (at least vis-a-vis DU). In principle DU's "Repair Disk" function would fix it, but of course if the disk's don't mount in DU then you can't fix them:)
Therefore fsck is a good solution, or trying DU from the Installer Disk (don't start to install, just let the first installer window appear, go to the menu and choose "Open Disk Utility") and repairing. Then reboot and repair permissions, preferably with DU running from your hard drive.
Maybe you're more of a "don't touch what's still running" kind of person, but it sounds to me like the systems a bit wobbly and needs some tender loving care. You could try a clean up using a program like OnyX as well - it won't do any harm.

  • Reformatted ipod nano using disk utility - no longer works

Idiotically I decided to use disk utility to reformat my 8Gb iPod nano (5th Gen) as I wished to use it temporarily as a USB drive compatible with Mac and Windows. Now that I wish to use it again as Apple intended, I find that iTunes does not recognise it in the Source list.
It shows up fine on the desktop and when the iPod is charged, it always asks me to select a language, and then comes up with the menu screens (music, videos etc) but it is empty with no data.
I tried following the instructions in this support document http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3540 but was foiled at step 5 as I do not have the file they wish me to trash.
Any clues on how I might go about fixing this? I would very much appreciate any assistance!!
    Cheers

    Hello kismet_kracker,
Maybe trying reformatting it again via *Disk Utility* except this time, change it's file system type to Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) and see if that helps.

  • Unable to erase external hard drive with Disk Utility

Macbook Pro (mid 2010) running 10.9
    Hello
Recently, my Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1 TB external hard drive has not been showing up on my desktop or in finder.  The light is on when connected, and in the Disk Utility it appears.
    1.  It was naturally created with a partition on it (all of the 1TB allocated to it) and it appears in the Disk Utility as well; however, it is grayed out.
    2.  I clicked the actual drive in DU and it was verified as being ok.  I clicked on the partition next to verify and it said "Error disk needs repaired"
    3.  So I clicked repair, "Disk Utility cannot repair the disk..restore as many as your backed-up files...etc."
    4.  No problem (the data on the hard drive is used for my Time Machine back ups and my current internal hard drive is working fine with all the data intact)
    5.  Ok, so I click the erase tab on the entire external hard drive...erase..."Disk cannot be unmounted"
    6.  Ok, I try to erase the invidual partition..."Could not open disk"
It seems every time I try to erase this drive completely im hitting blocks.  I even tried this method from the OS X Recovery menu (Command+R on startup).  I would greatly appreciate any help to just get this whole thing external hard drive erased and start anew.  How else would I go about this?
    (pictures for reference)
    Thank you all

If this is your only backup device, you need to start a new backup on another drive immediately. Don't erase (or try to erase) your only backup.
After you have the other backup, boot into Recovery and try again to erase the volume. You will have to unlock it before you can do anything with it, because it's encrypted.
If you still can't erase it, the drive has failed.

  • I Can't Erase the Empty Space with Disk Utility

It always gets stuck. Last time i tried it, it went all the way almost to the end of the fill bar. then it got stuck.
But even when i did manage to do it using the FASTEST option which just writes ZEROS over the free space 1 time..   I used DISK DRILL to see if it could recover data and yup..it was still recoverable.   Another thing i did was  fill my free disk space with big huge movie files.  And old stuff was still recoverable with Disk drill.
But anyway why Disk Utility Erase Free Disk Space gets stuck? And also  why disk drill can still find files even after i empty free disk space or when i fill empty free disk space with new files?

    Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your Tiger Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. After completion quit DU and return to the installer. Continue with Tiger installation.

  • Help with Disk Utility and disk repair

I just ran disk utility to verify my hard drive and the report says this:
    Verifying volume “Macintosh HD”
    Checking HFS Plus volume.
    Checking Extents Overflow file.
    Checking Catalog file.
    Checking multi-linked files.
    Checking Catalog hierarchy.
    Checking Extended Attributes file.
    Checking volume bitmap.
    Checking volume information.
    Volume Header needs minor repair
The volume The volume sh HD needs to be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
    1 HFS volume checked
    Volume needs repair
After saying that HFS volume needs repair, it won't let me repair the disk. That button is grayed out in disk utility. If I boot the computer from my OSX install cd and repair it that way, will it erase all of my data on my hard drive? Any ideas?
20" iMac 2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   60 GB iPod Video

To repair a startup volume you must boot from your OS X Installer Disc:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Tried to reformat Time Capsule with Disk Utility and now no Drive

So, not reading manuals finally bit me in the behind.  I was too impatient waiting for all my back up files to erase so I could free up space, so I got the great idea.......I'll just reformat the disk with Mac Disk Utility, NOT the Airport Utility.  Now my Airport says drive needs repair, however, there is no option in the airport utility for disks anymore.
Is there anything I can do to get the hard drive back?  or am I stuck with a very expensive wifi device now?
    Please help if you can.

Which model TC do you have??
What OS are you running? You  might find running the older 5.6 utility gives you a bit more control but that is not possible if you have Mavericks.. it can be still installed on lion and Mountain Lion.
Do a factory reset of the TC if you haven't already tried.
    The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
    Factory reset Gen 5
Hold in reset for about 5sec until the status light flashes quickly.
If your AirPort Time Capsule still doesn’t respond, do a similar reset to the Gen1-4.
Unplug your AirPort Time Capsule .. hold in reset and power the TC back on.. without releasing the reset.. wait until status led flashes rapidly.

  • Erasing ipod with disk utility is it worth a shot?

My 2G ipod is frozen once again can't get it to mount or show up. just asks if I want to ignore or erase the disk or eject. Have tried all the usual tests and self diagnostics. Even tried the tapping on the right side. I'm running the HDD scan now. Just before this happened when it was still mounting I tried to reset and restore it but got a error and failure several times something about the disk . Has anyone had results with erasing the ipod disk with disk utility and then trying to restore and update.? I went to the apple store and they basically said time for a new ipod . It's well out of warranty but I figure its still worth a try erasing if disk utility might help. I already replaced the HD last year and just got a high output Newer battery for it last week so I don't want to give up yet.

Erasing seems to hang from the beginning in Disk utilty. I tried zeroing all data which takes longer but I've gotten disk utilty to get the progress bar to go about three quarters of the way and then it hangs. I also checked it with techtool pro and it was finding a lot of bad blocks in the scan.
One time I got ipod updater to say it was restored but it wasn't really and I couldn't get the software updated. So I'm back at square one with trying erase with disk utilty but after more than a dozen attempts I'm beginning to think this is a lost cause for resurrecting this ipod HD . This is of course after I received a new extended battery for it last week made by Newer which is only good for 1G and 2G ipods.
