Finding a value within an array or variable

Hello,
I just recently made the shift from ASP to JSP development and am having some trouble in finding a solution to my needs. I need to check the contents of an array particular value. The array contains the child content of its parent i.e. the chapters within a book. Does anyone have an idea as to how I can quickly check the array to see if it contains the value I am looking for or will I have to use a forEach loop and a boolean variable to accomplish this?

There's no other way then a loop. An array in Java is basically a list of things. The only way to go thru the items in it is to loop thru them. Even some method you might call in ASP would only do the same thing, so you could write a method do to instead of duplicating loops all over.
If you are talking about associative arrays, Javascript has them if you are using JS (client side only, of course) or you could use HashMaps or Hashtables in your Java code to store things as key/value pairs. Then you can just get the value by the key.

    I have an array and I want to output ALL the index values that correspond to a particular value.  The Search 1D array only returns the first index, is there a VI that returns them all?  Thanks.

  • Assigning value to array type variable in a loop

    Hi
    I have a scenario in which i am assigning value from a array type variable(x) to the invoke variable of a database adapter. The variable x is exact replica of the invoke variable.
    My copy operation in assign activity looks like this-
    <copy>
    <from variable="Var" part="InputParameters"
    query="/ns7:InputParameters"/>
    <to variable="Invoke_call_XXDPI_EDI_852_PKG_InputVariable"
    part="InputParameters"
    query="/ns7:InputParameters *(* bpws:getVariableData('iterator') *)* "/>
    </copy>
    It is inside a while loop activity.
    PS *()* are square brackets
    But it is erroring out at run time.
    Does anybody has an alternate idea to assign value to an array type?.
    i have seen that while extracting value from an array type variable it works fine
    A similar kind of operation is shown below.
    <copy>
    <from variable="Var" part="InputParameters"
    query="/ns7:InputParameters *(* bpws:getVariableData('iterator') *)* "/>
    <to variable="Invoke_call_XXDPI_EDI_852_PKG_InputVariable"
    part="InputParameters"
    query="/ns7:InputParameters"/>
    </copy>
    Thanks

    Hi Ayush
    I suppose you are getting some error like "source node returns multiple elements".
    In second case there is no problem because you are assigning *InputParameters[bpws:getVariableData('iterator')]* (+suppose InputParameters[1]+) to target. Here it works fine because you are fetching oonly 1 value from source and assigning it to the target.
    Now in first case you are saying copy InputParameters to target[1] suppose. You know that source is an array which contains multiple index so which index field from the source will be assigned to the target.
    Try your process with only 1 source value it will work but when multiple values will be there it will fail. You have to merge both the cases and it will look like
    *<copy>*
    *<from variable="Var" part="InputParameters"*
    query="/ns7:InputParameters ( bpws:getVariableData('iterator') ) "/>
    *<to variable="Invoke_call_XXDPI_EDI_852_PKG_InputVariable"*
    part="InputParameters"
    query="/ns7:InputParameters ( bpws:getVariableData('iterator') ) "/>
    *</copy>*
    And the easiest way to do this is by the transform activity as said above.

  • How do I find the value of GWYUID from within a form?

    Hi, can someone help me with the below?
    I'm trying to determine the value of the environment variable GWYUID from within a form so I can pass this value to the fnd_webfile.get_url function at runtime to display the output of a concurrent program in a web browser.
    I've tried the below but this just brings back null. Any ideas on how to find the value at runtime in 11i?
    v_gwyuid varchar2(100) := name_in('$environments$.gwyuid');
    fnd_message.set_string('GWYUID:'||v_gwyuid);
    fnd_message.show;
    Thanks, Geoff

    wow, many, many, many.... and many thanks!
    Just add a tiny modify to check out the Batch_type
    doc_id = (select batch_id from gme_batch_header where batch_no='&batch_number' and batch_type = 0)
    Because the batch_no can be duplicated as we also create Batch and Filrm Planned Order.
    Many thanks for your support!

    Hi Vinayak,
         you will be having your first program values in internal table or some variables,
        when you are calling the second program you wii use like this,
        SUBMIT <Second Program Name> USING SELECTION-SCREEN '1000'
                           WITH s_emp(second program select-options)   IN t_emp(first program variables)
                           WITH p_chk   EQ t_chk

                           WITH s_cust2 IN t_cust2
                           WITH s_week  IN t_week
                           AND RETURN.
    you have pas like this to get your first program details.

    Hi,
    How do i find out the type of the value stored in a string variable?
    for example,
    I have a string variable str, in which the following type of values wil be stored
    1) Intger
    2) Long
    3) boolean
    4) Char
    Is there any method to find out the type of the value, anything like str.getType()?. Please kindly help me. Thanks in advance.

    Hi All, i'm sorry for the double posting, by mistake it occured.
    Thanks for your replies, i have a string variable str, in which the value is stored and i have another string variable type, in which the type of the value is stored.
    For example,
    String str = "15";
    String type = "Integer";
    Is there any way to verify whether the value stroed in str is of type stored in the variable 'type'. I want to write a method of type boolean, it will throw true of the value stored in str is of type 'type'. Thanks

  • Finding the most common value in an array of enums

    Hello,
    I'm looking for an elegant way of finding the most common value in an array of enums
    My enum being:
    0 - Close
    1 - Open
    2 - Undefined
    For instance, if my array contains:
    Close, Close, Open, Close, Close, Open.
    The most common value would be "Close"
    I have created a very customized VI that allows me to obtain the desired result, but I'm really not proud of doing it this way, simply because I would have to modify it if I were to add a new value to my enum...
    If someone can share some ideas to enlighten me, I would REALLY appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance!
    Jorge
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Here is the variant using the search method. This method will run N-1 times where N is the number of ENUM elements. Yes, it is a bit more complex than the brute force method but it would execute fairly quickly. The sort would probably be the time consuming task.

  • Finding the largest values of an array without using if condition

    Hi,
    I am trying to find the largest values of an array without using any if condition. Can any one tell me the solution for that..
    Thanks

    I am trying to find the largest values of an arrayThe 'S' to values suggests that you want not only the largest one, but multiple ones among the largest ones. The best way, I think, is to sort the array, so that its largest values are grouped topgether. If the type is already Comparable, the following single line does the job:
    Collections.sort(myArray);After this, the last values of the array are the largest ones.

    I am using Netbeans on Mac OS X.

  • OpenScript script variables - can store multiple values or an array?

    Hello,
    I'm helping with a proof-of-concept for driving the Primavera P6 web services using OpenScript, and I'm having a bit of trouble using the script variables. One of the web services can return anywhere from 0 to many objects, and I was trying to save those object IDs into a script variable. The built-in "substitute variable" seemed to work great, but the variable only contains the last result, not all of them. Here's the line that's saving the value:
    http.solve("objIdsToDelete", "<ObjectId>(.+?)</ObjectId>", "", true, Source.Html, 0, EncodeOptions.None);
    Even if there are, for example, 5 <ObjectId> in the response, the variable only has the last result... Any suggestions on how I can tweak this (different regular expression?) to either store an array or a comma-separated list of all the values?
    Thanks!
    -Troy Newton

    Hi Troy,
    Sorry about my last answer. It wasn't too specific. So if you want to collect the whole array instead of a specific value (referenced by the index) you would change e.g.
    http.solve("formsload.loginsubmit_1",
                                  "FORM_SUBMIT_BUTTON':'(.+?)'", "", false, Source.Html,
                                  1, EncodeOptions.None);
    which would give you the second value from the array (remember that arrays are indexed from 0) to
    http.solve("formsload.loginsubmit_1",
                                  "FORM_SUBMIT_BUTTON':'(.+?)'", "", false, Source.Html,
                                  null, EncodeOptions.None);
    Notice the null, this will return an array to the coolection. You can then reference these by:
              String myStrings[]=getVariables().getAll("formsload.loginsubmit_1");
                        info("Number of elements in array is :" + myStrings.length);
                        for (int i=0;i<myStrings.length;i++)
                             info("Element Number " + i + ":" + myStrings [ i ] );
    This will result in an output like:
    0 Passed Comments: Number of elements in array is 2
    0 Passed Comments: Element Number 0: Submit Button
    0 Passed Comments: Element Number 1: Cancel
    I hope this helps.....

  • How to search for a value within a tolerance in an array?

    I am trying to search in an array for a value of say 10 plus or minus 2. In other words, I want a value of true if there is any value in the array between 8 and 12.

    canadian;
    LabVIEW includes with a VI called In Range and Coerce. You can test the value using that VI.
    I also created a VI for exactly that. You can download it from here:
    http://www.jyestudio.com/lview.shtml
    It is called Search 1D array using conditions. Let me know if it is useful. Even more efficient, you can look at the code of that VI and then extract the functionality you want for your application.

    This is what i have:

    I think you mean:
    split[1] = "a" + split[1].substring(1);
    System.out.println(split[1]);
    Strings are immutable which means they cant be changed. The only
    thing you can do is create new Strings.
    hello <- you cant make the 'h' an 'a'
    a + ello <- but you can create a new string from 'a' and the rest of 'hello'

  • Trying to get multiple cell values within a geometry

    I am provided with 3 tables:
    1 - The GeoRaster
    2 - The geoRasterData table
    3 - A VAT table who's PK is the cell value from the above tables
    Currently the user can select a point in our application and by using the getCellValue we get the cell value which is the PK on the 3rd table and this gives us the details to return to the user.
    We now want to give the worst scenario within a given geometry or distance. So if I get back all the cell values within a given geometry/distance I can then call my other functions against the 3rd table to get the worst scores.
    I had a conversation open for this before where JeffreyXie had some brilliant input, but it got archived while I was waiting on Oracle to resolve a bug (about 7 months)
    See:
    Trying to get multiple cell values within a geometry
    If I am looking to get a list of cell values that interact with my geometry/distance and then loop through them, is there a better way?
    BTW, if anybody wants to play with this functionality, it only seems to work in 11.2.0.4.
    Below is the code I was using last, I think it is trying to get the cell values but the numbers coming back are not correct, I think I am converting the binary to integer wrong.

    Hey guys,
    Zzhang,
    That's a good spot and as it happens I spotted that and that is why I am sure I am querying that lob wrong. I always get the a logic going past the total length of the lob.
    I think I am ok using 11.2.0.4, if I can get this working it is really important to us, so saying to roll up to 11.2.0.4 for this would be no problem.
    The error in 11.2.0.3 was an internal error: [kghstack_underflow_internal_3].
    Something that I think I need to find out more about, but am struggling to get more information on is, I am assuming that the lob that is returned is all cell values or at lest an array of 4 byte (32 bit) chunks, although, I don't know this.
    Is that a correct assumption or is there more to it?
    Have either of you seen any documentation on how to query this lob?
    Thanks
